Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager Installation of Ubuntu ver 10.04 on a netbook, brand "Viewsonic" model VNB100. When the AC power fails the laptop immediately suspends instead of just switching to battery power. When installed Kubuntu 10.04 the power management works fine. So must be some kind of PM software error... I think I know why this problem exists, but not how to fix it. The power management system seems to detect the battery as nearly exhausted as soon as it starts to use it. The battery is actually fully charged, but the laptop behaves as though it's critically discharged. It seems to have problems knowing how charged the battery is, as power management history shows the graph wildly fluctuating from almost totally empty to fully charged. If I could just fix it to "fully charged" or somehow fix the battery status, I think this problem would be solved. PS Just for the sake of completeness, I have to power on repeatedly to get it to use the battery after AC failure or AC power removal, it also refuses to stop powering down the HDD. ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Gnome battery measurement error but KDE works fine (?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/603789 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 462994] Re: Account details unremovable.
As speculated above, can confirm mission-control is holding onto user log in data. After sudo apt-get purge'ing empathy and telepathy-*, mission-control is still left running in memory. I ended up doing 'sudo kill -9 pid' on the mission-control process in question before re- installing empathy, but a reboot of the system would probably do well to clear it as well. So quick recap, I did the following: Went into Keyring manager GUI and removed entries for offending accounts Opened terminal and did the following: sudo apt-get purge empathy sudo apt-get purge telepathy* ps aux | grep -i mission sudo kill -9 4462 ps aux | grep -i mission sudo rm -rf .config/Empathy/ .gconf/apps/empathy/ sudo apt-get install empathy sudo apt-get install telepathy-haze Could have probably avoided going into the keyring and removing entries if I had purged empathy and telepathy first, but didn't think to test it. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. [Bug 581838] Re: Manually created menu item in Gnome disappears from Gnome, Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit).after reboot
Regardless of whether the behaviour itself is a bug, the undocumented nature of the solution is definitely a bug. I spent several hours attempting to discover the cause of this issue, before stumbling upon this bug report from google. I would recommend that a simple wrapper around /usr/share/gnome-menus /update-gnome-menus-cache be added to the default path (i.e. /usr/bin /update-gnome-menus-cache), and that this tool be documented in the relevant gnome/ubuntu documentation on manually editing menu entries. However, given that gnome already detects any changes to /usr/share/application/*.desktop, and updates the menus accordingly, would it not make sense for gnome itself to update the cache when needed? -- Manually created menu item in Gnome disappears from Gnome, Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit).after reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/581838 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-menus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 369405] Re: XDG menus do not update after a program installs
Hi, I'm not sure whether the problem I'm experiencing is the same as described here. I have installed an application and it has added itself to the main menu. That works fine and it shows up. However, if I right click on the main menu and select "Edit Menus", the newly installed application is not shown, so I cannot for example move it to another submenu. This will probably fix itself on reboot, but it is very annoying that after installing an application, you have to reboot in order to have "edit menu" recognize the changes made to the menu. [Bug 603289] Re: no login possible, xserver crash when pressing login
Ok, found the problem. I have an uid of 500 for me. This is for historical reasons to be compatible with any backups. So I had the user list feature already enabled but by default only users with an uid of 1000 and above have been listed in the new gdm. This is why I had only the login button visible (there have been no users with that high uid in my system). However the "old" gdm seemed to go around this and prompted me for a user since it got no valid user when I pressed the login button. The newest release seems to dislike this and simply crashes. -- no login possible, xserver crash when pressing login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/603289 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 603435] Re: an error occured, could not open location; you may not have permission to open the file
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks! When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. Indeed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/579044 looks extremely similar, however I never did disable user listing nor do I have such setting in my gconf files. But the result seems to be the same. Somehow I do not have a user list and this results in a crash. Further more a have no custom.conf which was removed to fix the issue. [Bug 540280] Re: openssh (or gvfs) asks for a password everytime I change directory in sftp
Very strange: I was able to fix this by uninstalling nautilus-bzr and the problem reappeared after installing nautilus-bzr. I performed the following test: 1. Open a sftp mounted volume (got asked for the PW) when hitting ENTER three times I get access to the volume The .xsession-errors (bzr-installed-log.txt) shows some python errors and permission denied entries 2. then I uninstalled nautilus-bzr 3. killall nautilus (which results in a respawn of nautilus) 4.
