[Bug 604876] [NEW] Ubuntu not save brightness. The 'lower brightness' button on my netbook / laptop does not change gnome-power-manager setting.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager After install Ubuntu and boot into Ubuntu, the brightness of my laptop monitor is 100%. I press the 'lower brightness' button on my Netbook to reduce the brightness. But, after reboot, it will be back to 100%. The temporary workaround on this issue is to set the brightness by using gnome-power-manager. Even I lower my brightness by pressing the button on my netbook, the brightness does reduce but when I run gnome-power- manager, the brightness setting in gnome-power-manager is 100%. I then reduce set the brightness setting in gnome-power manager to lower value. After I reboot, my netbook brightness did follow the gnome-power- manager. Please fix this bug. When I press the 'lower brightness' button on my Netbook / Laptop, the gnome-power-manager's configuration should be automatically updated, so that Ubuntu will boot with new brightness setting. Thanks, here is the report. [Bug 164684] Re: tali computer players cheat
Hello out there, I hope someone eventually reads this and can answer my question. Concerning the supposed "cheating" of the computer players... they are not cheating, it's just that the rules of the game's Gnome version allow for multiple yahtzees (5 of a kind). I also manage to score multiple yahtzees on a regular basis, sometimes as many as 4 in one game. But what is a source of concern is the fact that the game has difficulty settings. I cannot understand why a game that is supposed to rely on chance has difficulty settings. It can only mean that the Gnome version of the game does NOT rely on chance. Can anyone explain to me what is going on in the game? [Bug 604784] [NEW] overwriting other image if saving a new picture at the same time in same folder
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gthumb in: Ubuntu 9.10 gthumb: 3:2.10.11-1ubuntu1 While I was processing an image (cut/crop and tried to save) I was scanning (with xsane 0.996) in parallel images which were saved in the same folder. Obviously I somehow saved my work in another filename! Means: Afterwards I got the same image in 2 files, and lost 1 scan. I was hard for me to reproduce, but I expierenced it several times. It is lke this: while being in the window for cutting, another image was loaded in the background. So at the point when i wanted to save my change, it was somehow processed to another image. In general one can say: gthumb reacts very sensitive when adding files/pictures to the folder you are currently working in. (For me it seems like it is handling the files in some kind of internal cache/list/whatever which screws up if addidng files?) (e.g. if I am in a diashow and adding a picture, gthumb stops the diashow) ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Mon Jul 12 21:57:03 2010 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gthumb NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: gthumb 3:2.10.11-1ubuntu1 ProcEnviron: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-22.60-generic SourcePackage: gthumb Uname: Linux 2.6.31-22-generic i686 ** Affects: gthumb (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 -- overwriting other image if saving a new picture at the same time in same folder https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/604784 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gthumb in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 604778] [NEW] Evolution + attachment + 'Send to' leave a mailto: process consuming lots of memory
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I've been using Evolution 2.28.3-0ubuntu10 in Ubuntu 10.04 (and now also testing in Mint 9, which is based in based in Lucid), and I've found this problem consistently. I have Evolution set as the default mail client, and when sending e-mails *with attachments* using "send to" (from the context menu of a file in the desktop), or "compose new message" in Me Menu, the mail is sent successfully, but the associated mailto: process remains running, later consuming large amounts of memory (even in the order of GB), making the system almost unusable. Killing this process solves it all, freeing memory. This doesn't happen when opening the Evolution main window and composing a new mail from there, even if I include an attachment. [Bug 604766] [NEW] gnome webdav wrongly interprets displayname property
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus When using a WebDAV server that provides displayname properties gnome-vfs incorrectly uses those instead of the actual filenames. For example, ownCloud (http://www.owncloud.org) provides a displayname consisting of the absolute path and filename, all uppercase, for all entries; if in the root directory you have two files foo.txt and bar.txt as well as the directory foodir, owncloud will send the displaynames /FOO.TXT /BAR.TXT and /FOODIR/ to the client. Doubleclicking the text files will then open them in gedit and the filename will be correct. Clicking on the directory /FOODIR/ will open that directory, but show all files in there as /FOODIR/FOO.TXT and /FOODIR/BAR.TXT instead of the expected foo.txt and bar.txt. Also, uploading a file will fail because the upload will be tried as "PROPFIND /FOODIR/" instead of "PROPFIND /owncloud/webdav/owncloud.php/foodir/". blindco...@ceres:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Release:10.04 blindco...@ceres:~$ sudo apt-cache policy nautilus nautilus: Installed: 1:2.30.1-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 1:2.30.1-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1:2.30.1-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:2.30.0-0ubuntu4 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages blindco...@ceres:~$ ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome webdav wrongly interprets displayname property https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/604766 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 489973] Nautilus cannot download OpenOffice files on a Secure WebDAV, but can transfer other files (PDF, DOC).
I downloaded Lucid and ran it as a live CD. The problem remains exactly as described. I can download and then open PDFs, RTFs, but not ODTs, for which I get a "not found" or "unknown type" error depending upon exactly what I do. Thank you for your attention to it. Thank you. As a side note, I don't think I'll upgrade to Lucid. I prefer the look and feel of Karmic; also, Lucid's web fonts were poorly rendered on the live CD. That might be fixable were I to upgrade, but I have Karmic working as I like. If GVFS were working better, that would have changed my mind as I miss the functionality, but I'm making do. [Bug 604724] [NEW] pdftops loses grid lines
Public bug reported: We discovered that cups in lucid does not correctly print certain PDFs when printing from the command line with lpr or as a shared printer from preview in OS X. The same file prints correctly with cups on hardy. This issue occurs with a variety of different printers. I tracked down the problem to /usr/bin/pdftops by running the pdf through the filters that cups does according to the log. /usr/bin/pdftops is called by the cpdftocps filter. This pdftops is installed from poppler-utils: $dpkg-query -S /usr/bin/pdftops poppler-utils: /usr/bin/pdftops After running the pdf through each step of the filter, I opened it with evince. After running through pdftops, evince showed exactly what I see when I print the file. Interestingly, if I print from evince or acroread, all the lines are printed correctly. I think they are converting the file to postscript themselves before sending it to cups. I will attach the file that shows this behavior. The pdftops provided by the cups package does not exhibit this problem. $ dpkg-query -S /usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftops cups: /usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftops ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: poppler-utils 0.12.4-0ubuntu5 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-23.37-generic 2.6.32.15+drm33.5 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-23-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon Jul 12 12:33:43 2010 ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE= PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: poppler ** Affects: cups Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: poppler (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug lucid -- pdftops loses grid lines https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/604724 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to poppler in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Timosha, may you please paste the output of: gvfs-mount -l -i ; to the report? [Bug 150690] Re: Can't drag a window to another workspace
I don't think anyone's ungrateful. The problem is that the default is broken. On my system, "Normal" visual effects are enabled by default (resulting in Compiz being used). In that configuration, I cannot drag windows between workspaces - making the tooltips a liar. Can I survive without Compiz? Of course. But new users are going to be confused when a tooltip tells them they can do something and then they can't, especially when they're running the default configuration. It reflects poorly on the system. Paul Beardsell wrote on 2010-06-15: The only available workaround: Disable compiz. Compiz is but eye-candy, you and your users will prefer Ubuntu with unbroken multiple workspaces. And candy isn't good for you :-) Some would say that complaining about this bug means: * you misunderstand the Ubuntu bug reporting politics * you are ungrateful about others' hard work * you do not understand how X11 ought to work * you are mentally unstable and ought to switch to Windows XP I'm now compiz free for 18 months. One day at a time. Paul Beardsell p...@beardsell.com On 14 June 2010 03:29, eats7 wrote: > Does anyone have a fix for lucid? [Bug 603849] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in ect_check()
Thank you taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack trace. Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your problem. ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in ect_check() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/603849 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 542806] Re: In chat rooms, empathy should not scroll to the bottom whenever a new message is received.
This patch looks good to me. Definitely was an annoying issue that I'm considering removing from the Adium theme as well. -- In chat rooms, empathy should not scroll to the bottom whenever a new message is received. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/542806 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 603941] Re: Evolution Freezes / Crashes Randomly
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- Evolution Freezes / Crashes Randomly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/603941 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
