[Bug 285998] Re: A misplaced ~/Templates folder over a reboot permanently changes the TEMPLATES path in ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs

2010-07-15 Thread Omegamormegil
>From http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/xdg-user-dirs under the
Settings heading:

Note: To disable a directory, point it to the homedir. If you delete
it it will be recreated on the next login.

For some reason, deleted folders are being automatically pointed to the
homedir, which disables them. They are not recreated on the next login
as intended.

Vish,
I completely accept that sabdfl's comment has made this bug popular and
important :) but I had deleted the branch from lp. Fortunately, the branch
still exists on my machine (undamaged) so I am pushing again.

[Bug 535097] Re: Power Manager Brightness not clickable

2010-07-15 Thread David Ayers
Thank you Ali!

... for me (Dell Inspiron 1525n) the ...ppa3 package slider works much
better and I would consider it usable.

Yet when playing with it (i.e. Dragging) sometimes the dragging state
gets confused and the slider follows the mouse even though the mouse
button has been released. Playing further will toggle back up expected
behavior. I haven't been able to figure out what click/motion
combination will trigger/toggle the behavior.

To me this is acceptable but I think for a polished desktop experience
(i.e. to bridge the chasm) this still needs to be fixed by someone.

Cheers,
David

[Bug 576751] Re: wnck-applet has memory leak

2010-07-15 Thread Rodan Bury
I've been using Ubuntu 10.04 for a month now (I decided to switch to
Linux completely after several experiments). The experience I had a a
user with Ubuntu 10.04 would have been great if it wasn't for this
memory leak.

I could see through the system monitor the memory used for wnck-applet
growing higher by the hour. After 10 hours of use or more, it ofter
reached at least 1Go of memory for wkck-applet alone. Without including
the high use of SWAP memory.

Basically, it resulted in Ubuntu crashing every one or two days. Which
means that in one month with Ubuntu I had more crashes than two years
with Vista.

I disabled the autohide fonction of the bottom panel, which seemed to
improve the situation a little. But the memory leak problems are far
from being solved. And this autohide fonction is very convenient, so I'm
unhappy with this temporary fix.

"Maybe notifying gnome devs should be the best thing to do." > I
strongly support this idea. :-)

[Bug 605290] Re: Unplug, replug AC on laptop, screen pulses, battery indicator not updated, power statistics and preferences screens unavailable

2010-07-15 Thread nUboon2Age
The above apport update was collected while this sydrome is taking
place. Currently upower --dump reports the battery is discharging even
though the AC is plugged in and the battery indicator shows charging,
but the battery indicator detail screens are inaccessible and a little
rectangle pops up saying the battery is discharging. So some parts of
the indicator say one thing and some say another. I'm rebooting to get
out of the problem.

[Bug 605290] Re: Unplug, replug AC on laptop, screen pulses, battery indicator not updated, power statistics and preferences screens unavailable

2010-07-15 Thread nUboon2Age
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: acpi-support

  Steps to reproduce:
Laptop (Dell Inspiron 2200 with an after-market AC adapter)
  1) unplug AC power
  2) replug AC power

Resulting symptoms: Frequently (probably 70% of the time)
    1) Pulsing, Flashing, beating, flickering display (looks like the
brightness level is popping up and down rapidly at about 133 beats per minute)
. My workaround is -- use the Fn Arrow Down keys to manually turn down the
brightness to minimum then i can't see the pulsing, though if I turn it back up
then I can see it again.
    2) The battery indicator still shows battery as discharging.
    3) The battery indicator's Power Statistics (usually accessed by clicking
battery status on popdown menu) and Preferences screen are unavailable. If you
click on the battery status area you can see a faintly visible 3D outline of a
transparent dialog box the size of the normal popdown menu item, but no item is
visible).
    4) results of
     upower --dump
     cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state
    and
     cat /proc/acpi/ac_adapter/AC/state
sometimes match what the battery indicator displays and sometimes not. This
is what leads me to think it is some kind of acpi event or other power event
not being properly processed on a deeper level than just the
gnome-power-manager or the battery indicator malfunctioning.

  5) Sometimes something (I haven't been able to determine what) will happen
and the AC power will be acknowledged by the system and the battery will start
to recharge again. The battery indicator sometimes matches what the upower and
other checks say, but usually even if it does, the battery indicator might show
charging but the other more detailed screens will still be inaccessible. Most
of the time though it will keep discharging until the system shuts down.
  6) If rebooted, everything looks normal again. unplug/replug will start
back at 1)

I'll try and provide more details of this at a later time.

2010-07-15 Thread nUboon2Age
Okay, Steve could certainly be correct to point to the gnome-power-

indeed cover AC power being unpluged, replugged, battery on/off and
other related power events.

2010-07-15 Thread jack.herbert
I'm using gcalctool 5.28.2 on Karmic
Found this whilst trying the Diffie-Hellman key thing.
Sometime it works but sometime not.
a^b = c then c mod d = e
e is different when I do it normally to when i copy , clear then paste c
e is sometime bigger than d
e is sometime negative when d is positive.
I'm no mathematician but that doesn't look right.

[Bug 341214] Re: Panel object, system monitor, set to fulll width of panel, will reset aftter every restart to half the panel width.

2010-07-15 Thread WSmart
Yes, I still get this; still have to expand my CPU graph to the 1000
setting, it still resets to about 500 after every reboot, using Lucid
with the proposed updates turned on. I haven't tried Maverick.

I figured it would be an easy nip and tuck for somebody. I don't think
it's a huge deal, of course. I use a CRT here and recently tried using
an LCD. This graph applet jolted with each update. Maybe I don't have
the settings right, but if it does that on all LCD's, I could see this
being a dead applet since CRT's are all but dead, or it might need some
additional fine tuning.

@W_D Really enjoyed hearing somebody else was using this too.
Feedback is fundamental. I'm trying to promote a type of fund raising
for open source projects, such as Ubuntu of course, where you get a
share ratio when you contribute cash or other resources to the project.
It's a way of giving context to the contribution -so it's not a shot in
the dark- and also a way to give credit to the contributor. I started
thinking about this from my experience with bit torrent. Figured you
might find that interesting.

Be real, be sober.

[Bug 372647] Re: Clock and Weather applet don't show any weather info

2010-07-15 Thread Bowmore
Doesn't work neither in Lucid nor Maverick.
I've tried all the suggestions with no luck but once.
No proxy is used.

That once when (for the n:th time) I deleted ~/.gconf the weather info
popped up again both in the Clock and in the Weather Report. Tested both
reboots and logout/login and it still worked. Next day when I colded
started the computer again those infos were gone and have never showed
up again. It seems that both of them are waiting to get the info, e.g.
the Weather Report is kept in status Updating...

So one question is, how do we track this down as we can't use tools like
strace?

[Bug 606012] [NEW] Nautilus FTP will clear (0 bytes) files on server

2010-07-15 Thread Ben Green
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When working on a file using gedit and nautilus on a remote ftp server,
files are sometimes clear out after I'm done editing the file. It seems
to happen if the connect times out. Usually I find out when I browse to
a page that I just did a bunch of work on to find that the page is now
empty. The file that should have my content in it is now 0 bytes. This
is ubuntu 10.04.

[Bug 577258] Re: laptop close screen

2010-07-15 Thread Leo Arias
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in gnome-power-manager.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 555177] Re: totem crashed with SIGSEGV in g_object_notify()

2010-07-15 Thread Iain
This bug happens in 10.04 both in totem and rhythmbox - when changing
volume they can each segfault. Rhythmbox has reported failing the
following assertion immediately before crash:

$ ./rhythmbox
(rhythmbox:10465): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_notify_queue_thaw:
assertion `nqueue->freeze_count > 0' failed
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I attach backtraces with debugging symbols for the crashes in each
application. I hope they're helpful. As I say, the crash happens the
same in each case, and as the stacks show, both programs crash after a
call to gst_play_sink_set_volume takes it through
g_object_notify_queue_thaw.

After resuming from standby, it performs a full folder rescan. After this,

For if it can give you some clue, LDAP address resolution also stop working.

[Bug 605966] [NEW] Pops up "programs still running before waiting for programs to interact

2010-07-15 Thread Gerard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

To reproduce the problem under Ubuntu Lucid:

1. Login
2. Open Gedit
3. Modify a file and don't save
4. Logout or shutdown

Now notice that you see both a Gedit would you like to save window and a
"Programs are still running window." It seems that the "Programs are
still running window" should not appear until after Gedit has asked you
to save and close. If this is not the case, then why do you get to
notify the session manager that you would like to interact with the user
with gnome_client_request_interaction and gnome_interaction_key_return?
This is especially bothersome since the "Programs are still running
window" appears second and tends to cover the Gedit confirm save window.

I can reproduce this bug on current Maverick. The error is the same:
"Segmentation fault". And in the crash file which is in /var/crash i
can't see any useful info about the error. I am adding the file as
attachment. Also, I tried to get a backtrce via gdb, but i can't
reproduce the error there. Yelp is just trying to load itself but can't.
Without using gdm it is tryig to load itself and crashes.

Also, i am from Ubuntu-tr Loco Team and one of our users report that
issue there. Now, I can see the owner of this report uses Ubuntu with
Turkish locale: LANG=tr_TR.utf8. So is this could be related with
locale?

I tried to open yelp as:
LC_ALL=C yelp
but no luck. It crashes again.

[Bug 605596] Re: Totem doesn't quit Fullscreen-Mode when focus is taken

2010-07-15 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
This bug is an upstream one and it would be quite helpful if somebody
experiencing it could send the bug the to the people writing the
software. You can learn more about how to do at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 601709] Re: Laptop goes to sleep right after plugging/unplugging power cord

2010-07-15 Thread urbandk
The problem seems linked to the lid close behavior. Unplugging the
laptop or plugging it in seems to trigger a lid close. I've changed the
lid close behavior to blank screen in the power manager, so now when I
unplug or plug in, the screen goes blank, but I can brink it back before
it locks up. I also have a 700m, and this issue has always been a
problem with every Ubuntu release...

2010-07-15 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
But in this way we're no more adium compatible, because we must add a
parameter to the javascript functions.
This is a big lack of adium, but I see that in the adium changelog
they state that when someone writes your name the message color is red

[Bug 24430] Re: "connect to server" feature don't manage NFS shares

2010-07-15 Thread Bryan You
Maybe this is the solution?

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=536292

as [David Zeuthen] and all the discussion in the thread said
there was a regression on the NFS-related function
so we can't see NFS mount-point

and now David added it back in the GVfs release for GNOME 2.28

Is there anything we can do? Or I just get this in the wrong way?

[Bug 531822] Re: Does not have specific color for the message with my name

2010-07-15 Thread iTorrey
There is no %myname% type tag however this could be done via a
textsearch of the incoming message using javascript.

Something like incomingTextVar.search(/myName/i) should find it. However
there's no way to set what YOUR name is, until you send a message (at
least in Adium that is the case) (see the vars available and when they
are evaluated at http://trac.adium.im/wiki/CreatingMessageStyles) so,
yes, it's possible to do this with the theme, would I recommend it? No.
It would be a lot of work for something that should be handled by
Empathy and passed down to the theme.
