[Bug 408417] Re: No option to log in remotely via XDMCP

2010-08-09 Thread Christian S
I fell over this thread when I was installing a 10.4 in a VM today.

I had some other problems (network configuration), but when they were
solved the XDMCP issue turned up.

It took about 5 mins to solve that problem!!! In my /etc/gdm I have an
xml schema called: gdm.schema. In the schema you will find a key called:
enable/XDMCP. It is a boolan value and it was set to false. I changed it
to true and rebooted my system. I'm now happily connecting to the server
with Xming using XDMCP.

[Bug 496681] Re: Rhythmbox does not save playlist on iPod

2010-08-09 Thread Charles P. Collins IV
This is still broken in Rhythmbox 0.13.

There is a new Sync feature, which allows you to select Rhythmbox
playlists and sync them with the ipod, but it does not work. One time
it worked with one playlist, in subsequent attempts it corrupted the
ipod and it needed to be restored using itunes.

Aside from the sync feature, there is still not a way to right click on
the ipod, create a new playlist, and then copy songs into the playlist.

[Bug 615235] [NEW] Totem changes system video hardware.

2010-08-09 Thread rew
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

A few people have encountered totem suddenly (after an upgrade)
displaying weird colors or just a black window.

This was caused by a contrast preference setting in totem changing to
0 after the upgrade (instead of the default midscale).

The issue here is not that the contrast setting suddenly changed, but
that totem seems to leave its contrast settings somewhere in the
hardware resulting in other players like mplayer and vlc also displaying
weird colors (with the open source driver) or a black window (with the
proprietary video driver).

My analysis is that totem sets up some sort of pixel-processing
pipeline, that includes its contrast pipeline. You could accuse mplayer
and vlc of not properly initializing that pipeline because they seem to
use totem's. But I think they simply don't use that feature, so they may
not know about it. I think that totem should leave the hardware as it
found it, and properly set the pipeline back to its original state.

This was a friends system. I think it has an NVIDIA video card (onboard,
AMD X3 processor).

[Bug 563862] Re: When logging on power manager fails

2010-08-09 Thread TonyM
I have tried:
1. Removing disk from CD drive. 2. Changing boot order to HDD first
3. Removing all USB devices. 4. Blacklisting gspca_vc032x
5. Removing PM from startup list 6. Reinstalling PM
None of them worked for me. The only thing that I can add to the discussion is
that I had an OK install of 10.4 on a HP (desktop) and then (for non related
reasons) moved the HDD to a tower with a Gigabyte MB. The problem appeared as
soon as I switched on the tower. The tower has an AGP card and I tried
removing that and using the onboard video (similar to the HP machine), but
didn't change the problem. I put another drive in the tower and did a fresh
install of 10.4 and the problem was still there.

[Bug 615235] Re: Totem changes system video hardware.

2010-08-09 Thread rew
The bug was observed on a friends system that suffered the inadvertent
contrast-set-to-zero problem. I can reproduce it on my system. Start
totem on any video, click edit-preferences-display .Slide the contrast
to zero or very low, close totem, and start mplayer on the same video.

mplayer -vo x11 filename will display correctly, while mplayer -vo xv
filename does not.

[Bug 71228] Re: Rhythmbox has no apparent pause button

2010-08-09 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Matt,
Sorry, I didn't notice your patch. I just saw an easily-fixable bug, wrote a
patch for it, made the debian changes for it and pushed a branch for it. Then,
poked Ken on IRC and requested him to review it. When he found it fit, he got
it in.

The best way of getting patches in is to download the complete source
package, apply the patch for it, write an entry in debian/changelog and
then push a branch and poke a sponsor. This will help you in speeding up
getting patches into UBuntu.

Have a good time fixing bugs.. I am sorry for not trying to get yours
in, since I didn't notice it.

[Bug 615256] [NEW] Account Type Scroll Fails To Return

2010-08-09 Thread KE1HA
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Description: Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release: 10.10
Installed: 2.31.5.1-0ubuntu3
Candidate: 2.31.5.1-0ubuntu3
Version Table:
*** 2.31.5.1-0ubuntu3 0
500 https://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/maverick/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Test Document Information:
Basic Account Creation
Case ID: emp-001

   1. Open empathy either from the Envelope on the task bar or from
Applications-Internet-Empathy.
   2. On initial start up you are presented with the basic account creator.
This can only be be used to
create accounts that only use username and password.
   3. Select one of the account types, most common of these are msn, gmail and
jabber.
   4. Once selected type in your username and password for the account.
   5. You can go on to create extra accounts at this point or close the account
creator.

Action-3 Failed: During a new account creation, after I scrolled down to
the bottom of available account types, I was unable to scroll back to
the top. Canceling out allowed me to re-select the account types listed
toward the top. This is only a problem is if the window size is such
that the scroll is actually enabled.

All Other Account Creations Tests Passed.

Also i cannot see the top bar that holds Minimise, Maximise close buttons

It gives me this error :

I tried starting apport with :

and then accessing the camera but for some reason I get nothing in

After some experimenting, I found the cause for the crash. It was an

nautilus-print.py from http://www.florian-diesch.de/software/python-

[Bug 615023] Re: Leave Messages on Server - Missing

2010-08-09 Thread Didier Roche
Indeed, this comes from the evolution express changes.

However, the feature of autosetting that on the user behalf is also
merged now in evolution 2.31. I'm checking with upstream if the option
is still displayed and if they want so before trying to work on revert
this or not.

[Bug 615305] [NEW] [maverick] Empathy always display offline contacts at startup

2010-08-09 Thread Id2ndR
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

This bug is the exact opposite of Bug #566909: it seems that Empathy is
unable to respect the initial actual value for
/apps/empathy/ui/show_offline (false). The contact list always shows
online contacts at startup and I need to change the View → Offline
Contacts menu entry to unchecked it.

I runned empathy in a terminal and I see that:
(empathy:2321): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: specified class size for type
`DConfSettingsBackend' is smaller than the parent type's `GSettingsBackend'
class size

I think that the migration from gsttings to dconfsettings may be the
trouble.

[Bug 615103] Re: autostart of gnome-settings-daemon can be prevent by one file

2010-08-09 Thread Id2ndR
I agree with you. However I got a trouble because of this design : I
disabled and remove the launch of g-s-d using gnome-session-properties
but g-s-d still doesn't launch during following startup.

I will open a separate bug for this because gnome-session-properties
doesn't show .desktop file that are still present (you should remove the
file by hand) and may prevent the session to start normally.

In fact I wasn't able to reproduce the same behavior in maverick : the

[Bug 614810] Re: gdm displays no user at startup in Ubuntu Maverick

2010-08-09 Thread Björn Schließmann
For me, those symptoms started with gdm 2.30.4-0ubuntu1.

I second the race condition, since the problem doesn't always appear.
Sometimes after booting (minority of cases), the user list is shown
normally.

P.S.: Workaround: No need to install xdm. Just log into a VT and enter
startx.

Addition to my previous comment, referring to #4:
- version see above
- doesn't happen everytime, but when it happens (normally directly after

[Bug 615334] [NEW] Thrashes when leave mouse over window one second

2010-08-09 Thread Bernard Brosseau
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vinagre

Occurs when I leave an unmoving mouse over the contents of the remote desktop
contents more than one second.
Does not happen over window decorations, buttons, etc.
Does not happen when moving the mouse.

Basically, when the mouse is left unmoving:
- The mouse cursor starts refreshing/blinking very fast.
- The CPU starts running 100%.
- The contents screen does not update itself fast. I wouldn't know if because
of a lot of network messages being sent, or the capped CPU.

This does not happen on other vncviewer such as xtightvncviewer.
I thought it may be caused by Compiz, but it also occurs when using Metacity.

You have been subscribed to a public security bug:

When gnome goes into lock screen automatically you can move the mouse to

read an employee write-up I had been working on.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

[Bug 613528] Re: X server freeze

2010-08-09 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Bug 71228] Re: Rhythmbox has no apparent pause button

2010-08-09 Thread madbiologist
Matt - I agree, the process is _really_ bad.

I would have applied your patch to the source code and compiled and
tested it myself if I had the technical know-how. However I at the
moment I am barely able to to compile anything, let alone patch it
first. (Does one actually patch the source and then compile, or is the
patch applied during compilation?)

It looks like you and Vish tried to follow the normal (and possibly
the right?) process by forwarding your patch upstream to Gnome,
however your patch was almost completely ignored. The pre-existing patch
from Seemanta Dutta (which he continued to work on after you submitted
your patch) was also ultimately ignored/rejected. Comments 45-49 in the
upstream bug are very enlightening in this regard. So the normal
process has failed. Badly.

So now Bilal's patch is in Ubuntu and Debian, but not in Gnome, which
doesn't help any other non-Debian-based distributions which are shipping
Rhythmbox. This of course is not Bilal's fault. This sort of failure
on the part of the Rhythmbox/Gnome developers is probably one of the
reasons why Banshee seems to be taking over as the music player of
choice.

Bug description:
CD or DVD inserted into either builtin CD/DVD drive or USB drive is properly
automounted.
Even a 2GB HP flash stick gets properly automounted.
But insertion of floppy into a Sony USB floppy drive doesn't cause automount,
even though
the drive does feel the insertion. I noticed directory floppy0 already in
/media before I put the floppy
in, with name floppy linked to it. But, after insertion, neither showed
actual contents of floppy. I removed
both names, rebooted, tried again, and still no automount.
