[Bug 615730] [NEW] Recursive (archive) compression if the folder contains a link to itself.

2010-08-10 Thread rf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu is tricky! You must know that.
Otherwise you risk to loose all your bug report writings in a blink of
an eye... just as I did.

Anyway, the problem is that if you try to compress a folder that
contains a link to itself the archive manager goes in some sort of
recursive compression and compress and compress... the same folder over
and over again. Hopefully after some iterations it stops (don't know the
exact account of the iterations). Then you have a huge archive
containing the same folder many, many times. I used the UI and does not
try the archive in the console. After a small searching in the net I
didn't find such an issue that's why I posted it in here. Probably this
is a minor issue, but it will be good if you fix it.

One patch? Well, that could be done, but so long we don't have any

Why does it seem like a hack? It is the proper way to go.

hi,

what kind of information should I supply for future reports? the fields are
open, so I don't know exactly what you need to know.

If you have a formatted drop menu option of some sort, that can guide me then
you should be able to direct your questions to get the information you need.

Let me know if this is possible.

2010-08-10 Thread Adam
I am getting the same. When running rhythmbox with the --debug flag it
just states:

not modified:

Followed by the full address of the file. I have checked the file
permissions and I have full read and write privileges.

[Bug 290313] Re: system-wide proxy does not apply to synaptic

2010-08-10 Thread SabreWolfy
I manually edited /etc/apt/apt.conf to include the details of the proxy
I use. This proxy requires authentication. Updating via 'apt' or
'aptitude' on the command-line works fine.

Updating network proxy settings via System | Preferences | Network Proxy
breaks apt.conf. The settings are included, but the authentication part
of the URL (http://USER:p...@proxy...) is not included, even though I
have specified the username and password in the network settings dialog.

[Bug 459423] Re: Unable to play video from Youtube plugin results

2010-08-10 Thread kao_chen
The bug is back on lucid,I think, it will be present each time Youtube will
change the path.
Can we imagine the plugin using a simple text file in order to find the path?
or maybe a Ubuntu web page.
We just need a simple way to change the path access quickly without disturb
devs.
Find and update the good link can be handle by the community.

[Bug 615785] [NEW] gnome-power-manager problem on samsung r580

2010-08-10 Thread danfish
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Running lucid on a samsung r580.
Boots fine when plugged into the mains. When on battery power it freezes at
the login screen. Similarly when logged on and running on mains power, pulling
the power call causes a freeze.

Killing gnome-power-manager fixes the problem.

[Bug 615803] [NEW] Computer freeze when removing power cable

2010-08-10 Thread Simon Almström
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

If I start my laptop without the power cable inserted, it will freeze
once the gnome background picture comes up. The mouse does not respond
and neither will the keyboard. I can see that the time has also stopped.

If I start the laptop with the power cable it works fine, until I remove
the cable. Then it will also freeze and become totally unresponsive. The
only way (I have found) to get it back and working is a hard reboot.

I have not seen this problem on Ubuntu 9.10 but it is 100% reproducible
(for me at least) on Ubuntu 10.04.

Without knowing anything about g-p-m, it is as if the cable-remove event
causes the laptop to crash.

[Bug 610036] Re: MTP plugin causes Mighty Mouse to hang

2010-08-10 Thread Cefn
I disagree this is a low priority bug.

It stops you using your point and click desktop altogether if you make
the mistake of launching Rhythmbox (a default install) in its default
configuration. This is pretty major if you ask me.

If you're not familiar with keyboard navigation, then your choices are
limited to a hard shutdown or nothing.

I'm using a Kensington trackball, so it's not just Mighty Mouse.
Basically the MTU plugin is killing the USB subsystem.

It's also an easy fix. Deactivate the MTU plugin and let people install
it/activate it if they want to deal with the issues arising, rather than
sharing the fun with everyone.

It still occurs in Lucid Lynx 10.04.
I am not using Compact Theme and have not noticed an association with a theme.
I have tested with Metacity and XFCE window managers.
It is consistently reproducible. It never happens that the bug does not
reproduce for me.

[Bug 546578] Re: black screen after a few user switches

2010-08-10 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
I had a similar bug: switching to a new user display a black screen with
only the mouse cursor.

I can switch to the text consoles (Ctrl-Alt-Fn) and to the first X
session. But it looks like the second X is mixed with the first one. I
can see the user selector a few milliseconds before the first X session
is displayed if I switch to F8. And I have the black screen with mouse
cursor on F9.

My Lucid 10.04.1 system is an upgrade from 8.04. It looks like the use
switching applet is the source of the problem (in my case).
Removing ~/.gnome* and ~/.gconf* to reinitialization the gnome configuration
solved the problem.

The old (and problematic) user switching applet was the one with the
green running man. The new (and working) user switching applet has a
power sign as icon.

i think this bug is really high priority. i can't use my mp3 player with
Rhythmbox and like Cefn said it is not usable for people not knowing to use the
keyboard.

xserver reset...

[Bug 615859] [NEW] Select windows when the mouse moves over them is incompatible with global menu bar

2010-08-10 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

The global menu bar used by Unity is basically incompatible with the
Select windows when the mouse moves over them option in System
Preferences Windows (gnome-window-properties). This is because
moving the mouse to the menu bar will often move it over another window,
changing the window focus.

So, whenever Unity is being used with the global menu bar:
* the Window Selection section of the Window Preferences window should be
hidden
* the Select windows when the mouse moves over them option should be treated
as if it was off.

[Bug 615886] [NEW] feature request: bring Firefox to front on click link in Thunderbird

2010-08-10 Thread Mitch Claborn
Public bug reported:

[Bug 615885] [NEW] gnome.user_get_dir() returns None on Lucid

2010-08-10 Thread zzarko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-gnome2

When trying to execute the following Python code:

import gnome
print gnome.user_dir_get()

the result is None. Expected behaviour is (I guess) to return string
containing the user's gnome2 directory. This function is used in some
gedit plugins (ie. Profile plugin, http://yguarata.com/blog/2008/07/04
/gedit-plugin-to-exportimport-tools-and-plugins/) and causes their
activation to fail:

Traceback (most recent call last):

PROFILE_TEMP = gnome.user_dir_get() + '/gedit-profile.tar.gz'
TypeError: unsupported operand type(s) for +: 'NoneType' and 'str'

Tried on Ubuntu 10.04 with latest updates. python-gnome2 is 2.28.0. Some
other Python gnome libraries are also 2.28.0, while others are 2.30.0.

Re: [Bug 615380] Re: Does not detect hotplugged storage device

2010-08-10 Thread David Boss
I've got various USB devices connected through a Belkin 7-port USB hub. One of
these
is a Sony DVD reader/burner; when I insert a CD or DVD, it is properly
automounted.
When I plug an HP 2GB flash stick into the Belkin hub, it too is immediately
felt and
automounted. But when I insert a floppy into a Sony MPF82E USB floppy drive,
itself
already plugged into the Belkin hub, it makes the usual noises, which lets me
know
that it felt the insertion, but the floppy content doesn't appear in /media. I
expected that
it would; it doesn't. The same problem doesn't happen under Fedora 13.

All of which I already told you, with the possible exception of the model number
of the floppy drive. It's all the information I can give you. But if you still
insist on
ducking my report, so be that.

Thank you for your attention.

Dear David,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

For example, in this instance what device were you trying to hotplug?

Sincerely,

Darran

Thanks for the report, the bug is already fixed, file-roller now doesn't
allow you to add such files unless you explicit add the option to ignore
the symlinks, closing the report.

[Bug 574154] Re: Lost panel in NBR after 10.04 upgrade

2010-08-10 Thread Tchalvak
Apart from the issue with the gnome-panel, which I don't have, I have
the same symptoms after an upgrade to 10.04. The windows don't maximize
or minimize, and the chrome containing the close/minimize/maximize is
unavailable. Holding down alt to try to move a window fails to work,
the window switcher app doesn't register any windows being open, and
changing focus by clicking on a window does not move it to the top.

Changing visual effects to a higher level and back down brings the
window chrome back, for at least the duration of a single reboot.

[Bug 615589] Re: Nautilus shows error when accessing sftp: Please check the spelling and try again.

2010-08-10 Thread Leo Arias
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in nautilus.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 615589] Re: Nautilus shows error when accessing sftp: Please check the spelling and try again.

2010-08-10 Thread Leo Arias
Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather
debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 615589

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. Thanks in advance!
