[Bug 576698] Re: gnome-power-manager hibernates instead of suspending on idle

2010-08-28 Thread MrMacman2u
Confirming this same bug on Maverick 10.10 on a T42 Thinkpad, I'm not
sure if/what other information might be needed, but I will add it on
demand.

Manual suspend works correctly.

This is a very frustrating bug as hibernate is incredibly slow on this
system and despite the GPM setting to suspend when idle, it hibernates.

[Bug 626142] [NEW] evince will not launch external programs in presentation mode

2010-08-28 Thread Pausanias
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

PROBLEM: when viewing a PDF file with associated external content, such
as a movie, evince will launch the external helper application when in
normal or full screen mode, but will not do so in presentation mode.
When in normal or full screen mode, the mouse pointer changes from an
arrow to a finger, and the tooltip "launch .." will appear. When in
presentation mode, the mouse pointer never changes shape, and clicking
on the embedded link merely causes the presentation to advance to the
next page.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: evince should launch the external application in
presentation mode, the same way it does in the normal and full screen
modes.

TO REPRODUCE: Download attachment. Unpack in separate folder. Open
test.pdf with evince. Clicking on the image on page 2 will launch the
movie storm.mov in normal and full screen modes. It will fail to do so
in presentation mode.

[Bug 440865] Re: Visual notification for/correct user response to incoming voice calls and subscription requests not obvious

2010-08-28 Thread Matt Hines
I am in the latest version of Ubuntu - 10.04 and according to Update
Manager, everything is up to date so I assume I have the latest of
everything.

I am still experiencing this issue. I hear the ringing but I can not
find ANY POSSIBLE way to accept the call.

It would be nice if Empathy would all around expand on its SIP
functionality. SIP is a great protocol and it would be nice to have
more options and a keypad or something similar to how other softphones
have (Counterpath Products like X-lite http://counterpath.com)

It is absolutely pivotal, though, to be able to answer a damn call.
Without that ability, the SIP part of Empathy is all but useless.

[Bug 501261] [NEW] No video, only sound, in totem after upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10

  Installed: 2.28.2-0ubuntu3

3) Showing pictures in rapid succession when playing a video
4) Blank screen. Only sound

I made an upgrade, not a clean install, from 9.04 to 9.10. After that,
totem will not show pictures when playing video. It plays sound
correctly though. This seems to be independent of video format.
Identical behaviour for mpg, avi and wmv.

The funny thing is that gxine works correctly. And if I first start
gxine and then totem, everything is fine! But I shouldn't have to have
gxine running in the background to be able to use totem.

I have just installed the file-roller package from Maverick, and the

[Bug 626074] [NEW] Double-clicking on archive should extract it

2010-08-28 Thread Jan-Christoph Borchardt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Currently, clicking on an archive opens file-roller. To extract an
archive, one needs to right-click and select ›Extract Here‹.

As the major use case for archives (mostly downloads) is extracting them rather
than modifying files in them, this should be switched:
Double-clicking (or clicking in single-click mode) should extract the archive
(like on Mac OS).
The right-click option for ›Extract Here‹ should be changed into something like
›Edit Contents‹, which would then launch file-roller.

[Bug 626049] [NEW] Indicator applet menu empty

2010-08-28 Thread Bruce Heerssen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Sometimes the rhythmbox menu in the Indicator applet appears empty.
Removing and then replacing the applet in the panel clears up the
problem for a while, but it eventually returns. This bug is difficult to
reproduce on demand, so I've included a video. Note the small line above
the icon that appears when I click the icon.

This bug report might be a duplicate of bug #554375

Any chance that the Debian fix:

will be integrated in 10.04 & most likely resolve this?

[Bug 626040] [NEW] libgtk 2.21.6 random segfault with many gdk functions

2010-08-28 Thread ammonkey
Public bug reported:

Since the move to libgtk 2.21.6 some applications like nautilus tend to
crash segfault randomly. gdb show the segfaults happen on many gdk
functions. Here are two differents backtraces for a same segfault
happening in differents conditions.

http://pastebin.com/pue90cRC
http://pastebin.com/SjVsJN90

There are other segfaults that concern some other gdk functions but they
are hard to reproduce because of the previous one.

Downgrading to libgtk 2.21.5 solve theses segfault. But there's now too
many packages asking for libgtk 2.21.6 as a depency to be a viable
solution. The strange thing is that if you previously compiled nautilus
with libgtk 2.21.5 even if you update libgtk-2.0 to 2.21.6 then the
problem is solved. Maybe this come from some missing headers in 2.21.6.
I don't have any clue but this is what i've observed and what the
backtraces tend to say.

This bug may concern some other gtk apps than nautilus, some apps using
advanced drawing gdk functions.

It's a critical bug because nautilus is barely usable and even to get a
window you have to pray for it to avoid the random crash at launch and
after. Just change a theme and nautilus crash / restart. It happens very
very often.

2010-08-28 Thread Matt Meinwald

[Bug 369498] Re: 32bits gtk and glib modules not found in ia32-libs

2010-08-28 Thread LC Bruzenak
I see this on one 10.04 machine but not another. The GTK_MODULES on the failing
one is:
GTK_MODULES=canberra-gtk-module:gail:atk-bridge
and on the succeeding one is:
GTK_MODULES=canberra-gtk-module

But changing the env and relaunching in a terminal doesn't help much:

$ skype --version
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "atk-bridge":
/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/modules/libatk-bridge.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "atk-bridge":
/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/modules/libatk-bridge.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Skype 2.1.0.81
Copyright (c) 2004-2009, Skype Limited

(then change to be like on the machine which works; note 1 less error)
$ export GTK_MODULES=canberra-gtk-module
$ skype --version
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "atk-bridge":
/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/modules/libatk-bridge.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Skype 2.1.0.81

All packages/libs listed above appear to be similar otherwise on the 2
machines. Same skype version too.

[Bug 414107] Re: Palimpsest GUI impossible to use on small screen

2010-08-28 Thread komputes
I can confirm what Leo is saying. The windows is still jumpy in the
sense that clicking on a disk will make the window grow in size. I feel
that the window size should be static. Although this is not exactly the
same symptom it deals with optimizing disk utility for smaller screens.

[Bug 390733] Re: Process gconfd-2 causes cpu overuse and overheat

2010-08-28 Thread Ofer Chen
I had this issue on Lucid 10.04 upgraded from 9.10 it is probably a duplicate
of:
Metacity - https://bugs.launchpad.net/metacity/+bug/150721
GDM - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/526379
Gconf- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gconf/+bug/293535

simply a side effect of Metacity running twice as "sudo ps aux | grep metacity"
shows,
rm ~/.config/autostart/metacity.desktop solved it for me .

[Bug 625951] Re: gnome-keyboard-properties crashes choosing a new keyboard layout

2010-08-28 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 350520] Re: nautilus crashes upon moving a file to a sftp:// location

2010-08-28 Thread vergiliu
Hi again, I can confirm now that this was caused indeed by the dropbox-
nautilus package, which although was in the repo somehow didn't get
updated.

[Bug 350520] Re: nautilus crashes upon moving a file to a sftp:// location

2010-08-28 Thread vergiliu
I'm still seeing this issue in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (x86_64), after I
started apport and tried to collect information on the crash is
complaining about not being able to send the information due to dropbox-
nautilus (though I see a /var/crash/nautilus file now), I'll try to see
if I can found something on their site. Thanks a lot man :)

[Bug 625938] [NEW] Nautilus bookmarks sometimes do nothing when clicked

2010-08-28 Thread Alexander Lancey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In Ubuntu 10.10 with latest updates (nautilus 1:2.31.90-0ubuntu3), some
clicks on the places bookmarks in the nautilus sidebar don't work. When
this happens, the bookmark is highlighted, but the file browser does not
change to the new location. This is quite random, but happens about
every 5th click or so.

I've attached a screencast showing the problem.

[Bug 483732] Re: Gnome Remote Desktop Viewer - Mouse Performance - Major Lag

2010-08-28 Thread Rich
This is still a significant problem on my current 10.04.1 with full
updates and highly respectable specs (although the remote PC has low
specs). It's not quite unusable but close to.

I am linked to the "remote" computer by a 100Mbps router with very
little network activity.

[Bug 622404] Re: Nautilus unable to use SMB network share

2010-08-28 Thread Sami Pietila
It seems there is also a problem with copying files from the share. I
tried to copy a small file from the share to my desktop. Nautilus gave
me a popup saying that memory allocation failed. I have over 1 GB of
free RAM.

[Bug 625921] [NEW] First file opened moves maximized gedit to second monitor

2010-08-28 Thread Richard Eames
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Steps to reproduce:
Way 1: ( Make sure that gedit was previously loaded maximized)
1) Open nautilus
2) Create a file "foo.txt"
3) Double click file to open it in gedit

Way 2:
1) Open gedit from start menu so that it doesn't load any files
2) Maximize the window
3) File -> Open, Select a text file

Expected Results:
Gedit should stay on the monitor it was loaded / or on the monitor that the
mouse is on

Actual Results:
Gedit loads on the correct monitor, but after loading the first file moves
itself to my second monitor.

[Bug 625796] Re: cannot download from the terminal on youtube

2010-08-28 Thread Kees Cook
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
