[Bug 230797] Re: Totem crashes after using sleep mode

2010-09-29 Thread Sazhen86
I just tried this with compiz disabled and no crash happens, so it looks
like it's compiz related.

[Bug 230797] Re: Totem crashes after using sleep mode

2010-09-29 Thread Sazhen86
Totem also crashes for me when I resume from sleep mode on my Dell D630.
Activating apport does not catch the error, but running totem in debug
mode from a terminal reports the following after resuming from standby
mode:

The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 1959 error_code 11 request_code 133 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Following the instructions for debugging leads to the following stack
trace:

[Bug 565630] Re: empathy accounts right-hand information box has a light background but white text when using a dark theme

2010-09-29 Thread Eemil Lagerspetz
Sorry, It seems that it's not fixed.
I forgot to mention that the one that is unreadable is when you look at an
"Available" account. The red and orange backgrounds are OK. So, to reproduce
this:
0. Use a dark theme (Darklooks, darkroom, murrine wise dark, ... ) with white
foreground text
1. Open empathy accounts
2. Create an IRC account for example on irc.freenode.net
3. Login with it so that it becomes available
4. Notice the light yellow background and that the text on the right hand side
is unreadable.

2010-09-29 Thread Jean-Philippe Fleury
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

strings "Organize by Name" or "Organize Desktop by Name" are not
translated in my French system, but they should be because Nautilus 2.32
is 100% translated in French. See:

[Bug 518533] Re: Unable to mount location Not Authorized after nautilus upgrade

I had this issue today on a brand new install of 10.04.1 LTS

Boot up - could not mount my hard drives.
Saw other issues too like could not change my account type in Users and Groups.
No prompt for sudo password, just no response at all.
Could access sudo prompt for update manager though.

sudo halt
Reboot
Could mount my hard drives now.

[Bug 651772] [NEW] menu items are jumpy in low resolution

2010-09-29 Thread komputes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

gnome main menu bar going to system > preferences scrolling down and the
back up a bit will make it jump to top. In this scenario imagine I am

affect system > administration, so my question is is that menu footer
with the down arrow exactly the same in both menus?

Script view is a 'polar opposite' to the unicode blocks and and their

but its just programming. Options for both should be easily doable.

[Bug 646474] Re: Screen Resolution not correctly detected

2010-09-29 Thread MrMacman2u
Having a similar problem though I've been slow to report it. Oddly my
resolution is not being correctly detected in the OTHER direction as the
original poster. My Thinkpad T42 has a 1024x768 display and after
updating at roughly the same time, my log in screen and Gnome desktop
after logging in were both set to 1360x786... BEYOND the maximum of my
Thinkpad's internal display (no external display connected or HAS been
connected)

I was able to set the desktop back to 1024x768, but the log in screen is
still missing the entire right 337 pixels which hides the shutdown and
restart, etc... options off the physical edge of the display.

A screen shot of my gnome desktop is attached, I do not know how to get
a screen grab of the log in screen.

[Bug 651731] [NEW] regression: Monitor label has garbage characters in gnome-display-properties

2010-09-29 Thread David Gibson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I routinely connect my laptop to an external monitor - an IBM 20"
display connected via VGA.

In earlier Ubuntu releases this worked fine, with the two monitors
showing up as 'Laptop' and 'IBM 20"' (IIRC) in the gnome-display-
properties window. In Karmic and Lucid, however, functionality is still
fine, but the label on the external monitor is usually filled with
garbage characters. Exactly what shows up varies, but it is usually a
handful of unicode characters without proper glyphs, followed by '20"'.

I'm not sure where to start gathering debug information on this one. It
is entirely reproducible on my setup, however, so if pointed at the
right tools I can easily gather whatever information would be useful.

[Bug 651730] [NEW] nautilus asks for pass even though cryptsetup is not installed - should recommend install before

2010-09-29 Thread komputes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

nautilus asks for pass even though cryptsetup is not installed - should
recommend install before

cryptsetup should be a dependency of the ubuntu-desktop meta-package and/or to
the following individual packages:
gnome-disk-utility
nautilus

my reasoning for this request is that both of these programs have
disabled features which have to do with luks encrypted disks. These
programs seemingly offer these options but unless cryptsetup is
installed they will fail with an error. These programs should either
recommend installation of cryptsetup (using gnome-app-install just like
totem with codecs) before preforming the action, otherwise they should
be set as dependencies to these packages.

Steps to reproduce:

Disk Utility (palimpsest):
-Insert disk and format disk, create a partition and encrypt underlaying device
-It will ask for password but will fail if crypsetup is not installed

Expected:
-Palimpsest should recommend the installation of crypsetup through
gnome-app-install
or
-cryptsetup should be a dependency of gnome-disk-utility
or
-Feature should not be showen if cryptsetup is not installed

Nautilus:
-Insert LUKS encrypted disk into a fresh install of ubuntu (imagine you have no
net access for a radius of 50km)
-Nautilus asks for password, indicating a feature it cannot preform without
cryptsetup
-Nautilus fails with error stating that the child process crypsetup could not
be found

-Nautilus should recommend the installation of crypsetup through
gnome-app-install
or
-cryptsetup should be a dependency of nautilus
or
-Feature (password dialog) should not be shown if cryptsetup is not installed

[Bug 651659] [NEW] ipod will not update correctly in 10.10 using rythmbox

2010-09-29 Thread TiK
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Well heres the deal:

I added three new songs to my ipod shuffle. it broke my ipod. Not only
would it not play but it would not list the files I knew where there. I
could "browse" and play them if I opened them through a folder but they
would not appear on the device when I open it in rythmbox. No biggy. I
loaded up a VM and reset the ipod to factory defaults. I then added
songs to the ipod and closed it. It still would not play. I then opened
it back p with rythmbox and to my suprise it displayed no files, but
again the files had been added and were taking up space on the ipod. I
reverted to 10.04.1 in a VM and added songs. WORKED! but I dn't think
the average use would be able to do this and Ipod support is needed in
10.10. Hopefully this issue can be adressed before the final release!

Cheers,
Chris

[Bug 646078] Re: Character Map doesn't show a few letters, it just shows a box with 'A75B' on.

2010-09-29 Thread Mechanical snail
This means your computer has no font supporting those characters; thus
this isn't really a bug in gucharmap. U+A75B is the R rotunda; I believe
the Gentium font supports it (install package ttf-sil-gentium if you
need this character).

[Bug 195483] Re: Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change

2010-09-29 Thread Bruce R
I see that 'if something can possibly be misinterpreted (or misquoted)
it wil bel' applies again.

By 'new parameters lacking definition' I was referring to technical
definition, not subjective audio clarity.

Meanwhile, posting this from a Live 'daily Maverick DVD' (28-Sep-2010)
session, I can report that the 'xingmux' profile for 'CD Quality MP3'
has been re-instated, again with 'quality=6' that is best changed to 3
or better yet 2.

The xingmux settings still seem to have a strident, harsh colouration to
my ears, but I will use this setting versus my early recommendation to
try polling some folk with better and more discerning hearing, hopefully
including some young musicians with decent pitch perception.

[Bug 594463] Re: Gnome Panel Freeze

2010-09-29 Thread Ednilton Santos de Oliveira
Hi,

I also have this issue. It is really annoying because the clock also
freezes, and a lost the time! :-/

I have noticed, until now, that this happens only when the panel is in the "not
expanded" mode.
However, I will work the next days in the expanded mode to make sure this is
true.
I also can reproduce this bug by initiating empathy from the panel (by the
small envelop icon).
It is also easy the see what is happening with g-eyes in the panel.

Note, this is a important bug, since I have noticed it is present is the
10.10 (beta) version of Ubuntu.

Best regards.

[Bug 651611] Re: Cannot disable Evolution mail notification bubble

2010-09-29 Thread Alexey Spiridonov
Actually, even the gconf-editor steps did not help. I tried disabling
most all the other gconf checkboxes, to no avail.

Also tried Broadcast Preferences in System -> Settings, no effect.

I doubt it's the mail-notification plugin, because I tried this too:
1) sudo mv /usr/lib/evolution/2.28/plugins/liborg-gnome-mail-notification.so ~/
2) Restart Evolution
Still get notifications.

Tried: killall evolution-alarm-notify
Nothing.

Tried: removing Indicator Applet from the panel. No change. I like the
indicator applet. It's unobtrusive.
Same goes for Indicator Session Applet.

Tried: killall update-notifier. Still nothing.

Tried:
1) sudo mv /usr/lib/indicator* ~/
2) killall indicator-*-service
That breaks the indicator applet, which is kind of sad. Still get the bubbles,
though.

Tried:
1) mv /usr/lib/notify-osd/ ~/
2) killall notify-osd

The infernal annoyance is gone! *victory dance* Try working with this
stuff when you get 60 messages an hour. An interruption every minute? No
thanks.

According to this page,
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NotifyOSD#evolution
this bubble is supposed to be controlled by the plugin, which I deleted a while
back.

What gives?

[Bug 651640] [NEW] Stuck "Formatting message (...)" tasks

2010-09-29 Thread Paul Forgey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Ubuntu 9.10

$ apt-cache policy evolution
evolution:
  Installed: 2.28.1-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.28.1-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 2.28.1-0ubuntu2 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic-updates/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages

When opening and successfully viewing an IMAP message and then quickly
closing then deleting it, a "Formatting message (...)" task stays in the
status bar. Repeating causes more of these to pile up. The red "X"
button does not dismiss the task. These tasks stay on the status bar
indefinitely. While Evolution is perfectly responsive and able to
otherwise behave normally, these tasks keep it from exiting cleanly and
Evolution must be forced quit.

[Bug 649812] Re: Nautilus Hangs When You Attempt To Expand A Directory Containing Only Hidden Items

2010-09-29 Thread jimlovell777
Martijn_Hoekstra I'll try. The problem is I don't know the exact steps
that prompt a crash, repeatability is an issue. It typically happens if
I'm browsing a few folders at a time. If I expand a folder as described
above then leave it and start moving files in other windows it sometimes
happens. The crash seems to happen more when removable media and
secondary mounted partitions are been accessed.

[Bug 650595] Re: gvfsd-archive crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch()

2010-09-29 Thread Gustavo Guidorizzi
I've tried to gather a backtrace of 'gvfsd' - there were several
processes named gvfs* running.

Unfortunately, while trying to reproduce the bug, the copy dialog froze
at the end of the copy, and I couldn't finish the backtracing because of
gdb not responding to CTRL+C, or any other command, for that matter.

[Bug 651611] [NEW] Cannot disable Evolution mail notification bubble

2010-09-29 Thread Alexey Spiridonov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

1) Go into Edit->Plugins and uncheck the box next to Mail Notification
2) Restart Evolution
3) Wait to get some new mail

Result: You will still see an annoying notification bubble in the right-hand
corner of the screen
Expected: No notification bubble.

Workaround:
1) gconf-editor /apps/evolution/eplugin/mail-notification/
2) Remove checkbox next to status-notification

[Bug 643118] Re: [RV350] Desktop corruption – Screen only shows vertical bands

2010-09-29 Thread Tormod Volden
Thanks! The logs show that both 1280x800 and 1360x768 are detected as
valid modes, and the X server chooses 1280x800 as the preferred mode,
which also works fine. However, gnome-settings-daemon (if
turn_on_external_monitors_at_startup is true) forces the 1360x786 mode
which does not work.

I am not sure if the driver is at fault for exposing a non-supported
mode of 1360x786 (although the kernel detects that the LCD panel size is
1280x800 pixels), or if it is wrong of gnome-settings-daemon to select a
non-preferred mode. Or both...

[Bug 39363] Re: Arrow keys do not open and close threads

2010-09-29 Thread Alexey Spiridonov
I looked at the upstream bug, it seems like they wanted to enable Shift-
Left and Shift-Right, whereas the standard in all other applications
I've used is Left and Right.

The shortcuts of "Shift-Left", "Shift-Right", "Shift-+", and "Shift--"
are not discoverable. It took me a substantial amount of googling to
even find this page.

Upstream needs to fix this to be Left/Right.

Thank you for reporting this bug. This bug is confirmed in Maverick

Management -> one may place the screen brightness as far down as
possible. Then I created a User 2, locked screen of User 1, switched to
User 2, default brightness was 100%, locked screen of User 2, went back
to User 1, screen is at full brightness and cannot be changed despite
User 1 prior preferences.
