[Bug 577410] Re: pressed CD mounts but fails to display any files, partition not detected

2010-10-16 Thread MoLE
Unfortunately the bug is still present in maverick amd 64 desktop final.
Attaching a new apport trace.

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gvfs

I have two windows hardware driver cds that came with hardware I
recently purchased. Both suffer from the same issue.

The CD is detected and mounted (including the cd label) at /media/cdrom0,
however no files are displayed.
  dmesg output reports the following:

  [89245.260397] UDF-fs: No VRS found
  [89245.260403] UDF-fs: No partition found (1)
[89245.340199] ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 1
  [89245.342207] ISO 9660 Extensions: RRIP_1991A

In attempting to troubleshoot the issue, I have tested on several other
computers with different optical drive hardware, cpus and motherboards, ranging
from a P3 with a dvd-rom to an intel i7 latptop with a blu-ray burner.
The issue is constant across different hardware environments.
All the computers in question were running lucid (final) or karmic (fully
updated).

I also noted that I was able to copy the cd to an iso image using
brasero. Mounting this iso image using archive mounter also showed no
files, however opening the iso image using archive manager revealed the
  files on the cd.

I also tested the CD using the cd passthrough function of virtualbox, using
several current linux distros and MS XP.
  Distros tested were:
  Crunchbang statler alpha
  Fedora 12
  Linux Mint 8
  SymphonyOne 2008.1

  With the same result.

XP mounted and autoran the cd without issue.

The CD in question is the driver CD for the Nokia E-series phones and the ISO
is ~188Mb. I can attach it to the bug report if requested.
I have the same issue with another driver CD which came with a samsung
clx-3175fn printer, so I don't believe it is an issue with the physical media.

[Bug 540730] Re: gnome-settings-daemon: connection failed

2010-10-16 Thread dino99
hi Pedro,

look at bug 640240, its quite the same symptoms with maverick. I'm
wondering about applets config to be blamed: old settings left behind,
or conflicts with other distro (Lucid/Maverick) as they share the same
/home. I've removed/purged then reinstalled several times gnome-panel,
gnome-session, taskbar, but no luck.

So, it's still an issue.

Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

After upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04 I've noticed a real downgrade of
gnome-power-manager. Maybe this occurred because devicekit-power package
 became obsolete.

Problem was that after upgrade gnome-power-manager stopped tracking events.
In 9.10 I had omnibook module installed, as I needed bluetooth and
brightness buttons support. That worked like a charm. Before upgrade, after
I unplugged power adapter from laptop gnome-power-manager changed AC status
to off-line and laptop-mode executed appropriate scripts. So, screen dimmed
and hdparm commands were executed. Now it doesn't do anything when I
plug/unplug adapter. And brightness control buttons (Fn-F6/Fn-F7) stopped
working too. Omnibook module still works as I can use bluetooth and change
brightness manually. I think, problem is in power-manager.

[Bug 661272] Re: changing user password causes hang in users-admin

2010-10-16 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Yes, the password did change that way and was left as the old one
What do you mean? I really don't understand this sentence as its two parts
sound antithetic to me.

My general idea is that users-admin hangs when 'passwd' fails with an
error message we don't handle. Which doesn't seem to be the case here.
Did you use the same new password? Are you able to reproduce the hang in
users-admin? Have you tried with different values for the new password?

[Bug 661638] [NEW] mkv files do not be played and avi files play correctly but noise

2010-10-16 Thread sunsongxp
Public bug reported:

mkv files do not be played and avi files play correctly but noise.

1. When I try to use Totem to play the mkv files which is played
correctly at ubuntu 10.04, Totem responded that 无法编码多工传送的流。 or Could
not demultiplex stream.

2. Avi files are played correctly, but noises appear when I suddenly
change the playing time to previous or the following content, bigger
noise appear when the content has higher volume. It's not a big problem,
but it is a worry to hearing.

I have already setup ubuntu-restricted-extras and gstreamer0.10

[Bug 127444] Re: Drag'n'drop multiple files into playlist, (or open multiple files) add it not in the good/alphabetical order...

2010-10-16 Thread another_sam
Ubuntu 10.10, Totem 2.32.0.

I'd say the bug itself is that the order in which Totem adds multiple
files to the list is *unknown*; it shouldn't be.

Steps to reproduce /on my machine/:
1. Open a folder with Nautilus with a dozen audio files, ordered by name
2. Select all files
3. Drag n drop them to Totem's Playlist

What should happen:
Files are added to the playlist ordered by name.

What happens instead:
Files are added to the playlist not ordered by name.

Please confirm whether you can reproduce or not. If not, I'll analyze my
case more thoroughly.

[Bug 648951] Re: gnome-terminal switches desktop with small zoom

2010-10-16 Thread Stephan Mohr
I made some tests with a new user and found out the following:
- the bug occurs only if the terminal window is maximized
- the bug occurs only if you enable the visual effects in System - Preferences
- Appearance - Visual Effects to at least 'normal'

I tried maverick from a live USB, but could not reproduce the bug since
I was not able to install the driver needed to enable the visual
effects.

I hope this helps you.

[Bug 661652] [NEW] Totem poor video quality with deinterlacing

2010-10-16 Thread Virgil Brummond
Public bug reported:

Using totem video player in Maverick, by default I noticed videos have a
bad or blurry video quality. When I disabled deinterlacing and started
the program again, video quality was vastly improved. I think
deinterlacing should be disabled by default. This happens on both video
files and DVDs.

What happened instead: A blurry grainy video quality.

This happens when you're using GNOME shell. GKSu doesn't work well with

[Bug 451557] Re: [ubuntu karmic] 720Watt netbooks?

2010-10-16 Thread ullix
compare with Bug #413799

I am now running Lucid on my netbook, and the history and stats as shown
by the gnome-power-manager do seem to be realistic.

However, I do note one logical glitch in the display of Time to empty:
when this time is, let's say, 2h, and the AC power is connected, the
Time to empty shows 0h (zero hours). If anything, this should be
infinity, though simply omitting a data point of zero might be more
adequate.

Likewise, when AC is connected and the removed, the Time to full is
shown as 0s (zero second). That would also have to be infinity (or again
omitted altogether).

[Bug 58171] Re: Connection to ICE-unix/.. socket times out so programs take minutes to start

2010-10-16 Thread Alfonso Acosta
I am experiencing the same problem in a fresh amd64 installation of
lucid. The bug persists after upgrading to maverick. I would paste the
strace of gnome-session and X applications but is the same as the ones
pasted above (apps get stuck reading from /tmp/.ICE-unix and gnome-
session gets stuck in a call to poll)

Adding my local host-name to /etc/hosts did not help. Neither did
disabling ipv6.

In my particular case, the problem only happens when connected to the
internet through wifi (everything works while connected through my
ethernet card or if I disable the wifi interface).

[Bug 661272] Re: changing user password causes hang in users-admin

2010-10-16 Thread Rastislav Galia
I encountered the bug too after I performed an system update this
morning (15. October) via update-manager.

Your other questions:

1, No, actual and new passwords differed, I was careful enough to
perform the correct steps that should have led to successful password
change.

2, The hanging behaviour is password-independent and happens always - it
means it's perfectly reproducible. It effectively means it is not
possible to change the password in a GUI way.

3, It does occur only if I try to change my own password, not other
users.

4, 'passwd' succeeded in changing my password without any trouble.

What additional input is needed to change the bug's status from
'incomplete' to 'assigned' ?

RE: [Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-10-16 Thread slayer

That's ok, I can understand proposing a normal user to use Ubuntu if he can't
get his printer to work, but how can I tell a normal user to use Ubuntu if he
cannot shutdown his computer?
However, I am not affected by this bug anymore, even if I can't tell you why...
anyone wondered if changing the icons in the toolbar was the way to reproduce
the bug?

[Bug 661686] [NEW] declining yahoo subscription does not take effect

2010-10-16 Thread Sayantan Das
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Hi devs,

I am using empathy for my yahoo account. I keep getting these spam
friend requests which I used to happily decline in other messenger
services and it never appeared again but in empathy, every time i
decline a subscription request from an unknown user, it comes back with
the request if I log out of empathy and log back in again.

If I decline the request from my android phone messenger service or
yahoo messenger in windows it does come back in empathy again.

Could you guys look into this please?

Thanks,

[Bug 661690] [NEW] Predefined alert settings or alert templates

2010-10-16 Thread Simon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

It's very bored to create a new alert in evolution calendar:
1) I have to define the privacy in each alert (by default is public!! o_O).
2) I have to define the alarm sound in each alert (well, this isn't working
now) .
3) I have to define the program to execute in each alert (to solve the previous
bug I have to add one commad: aplay /.../attention.wav).
etc

The only thing that it's predefined is the time before it shows the
alert pop up.

Sincerely, Evolution is one of the worst calendar program that I have
saw ever. :-(

[Bug 23810] Re: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768

2010-10-16 Thread Prunus dulcis
In my case, on 1024*768 screen resolution, the preferences window is too
high, so I cannot see the button at the bottom. Since the preferences
window cannot be resized, I can only press tab until I think it is
selected and press enter... not at all a good user experience.

Just to be clear - is this bug about the preferences window, as the
original bug description suggests (although the title is very general
and may improve from being changed to being more specific)?

Re: [Bug 406626] Re: Deleted Items Folder inconsistently named in en_GB localisation

2010-10-16 Thread David Planella
El dg 10 de 10 de 2010 a les 14:08 +, en/na melat0nin va escriure:
This bug isn't entirely fixed - the tooltip for Rubbish Bin in the
Nautilus sidebar still says 'Open the wastebasket'.

We've dealt with the bulk of Wastebasket/Deleted Items translations now.
Apart from the ones from Unity (fix committed) and transmission
(separate bug, a step away from being fixed), there hasn't been any
other report of inconsistencies.

That particular string in Nautilus was fixed already, but a couple of
days after the language pack deadline, thus it didn't make it to the
final language packs:

https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/+source/nautilus/+pots/nautilus/en_GB/+translate?batch=10show=allsearch=open+the+wastebasket

The fix should be visible in the next language pack updates in a couple
of weeks.

I've attached a text file with other places where Wastebasket is still
present in the system. You might want to change those too. You can find
the strings in Launchpad using the same URL pattern as above. Here it
is:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/+source/$SOURCEPACKAGE/+pots/$TEMPLATE/en_GB/+translate?batch=10show=allsearch=open+the+wastebasket

Often $SOURCEPACKAGE and $TEMPLATE are the same. If not, you can go to
the source package translations page, look at the templates and simply
click on them to go there.

Note that some will be false positives and will already have been fixed,
like the ones in Nautilus.

I hope this helps.

[Bug 661712] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon received X Window System error

2010-10-16 Thread k0l0b0k
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

After 2 days uptime, system switched GTK-look to default (ugly)
There are nothing interesting in dmesg, but in ~/.xession-errors:

The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 57059 error_code 8 request_code 2 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 558853] Re: PC does not hybernate

2010-10-16 Thread igi
apport information

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

In my Ubuntu 09.10 Karmic and 10.04 Lucid beta2 installation, when requested
to hybernate (from the power icon in the panel) the PC gets frozen:
- the monitor is switched off;
- the HD read/write LED stays ON.

Then, when I force to shutdown from the PC power button and I reboot,
after the fscheck, no wired LAN network is detected (according what the
  related panel icon says).

To finally restore functionality, I have to reboot once again.

The hybernation worked properly with my HW till I left Jaunty for Intrepid.
