there is a proposed work around, however reports that the work around no

[Bug 50198] Re: Timeout has expired error on resume from hibernate

2010-12-08 Thread Raphael Weingartner
I also think this bug should receive a higher priority. After suspend I
usually have the Time has expired message. Normally this isn't a
problem but recently I had a complete freeze of the system and I
couldn't enter my password at all. I couldn't reproduce this on a
subsequent test though. Even if this bug is unrelated to my freeze up, I
think the Time has expired message is something that many Ubuntu users
have encountered and gives a bad impression

[Bug 494373] Re: gnome-network-properties sets $http_proxy incorrectly

2010-12-08 Thread Bertrand Presles
I confirm this bug in Maverick (10.10) too.

How to reproduce it:

1) Launch gnome-network-properties
2) Select Manual configuration
3) Enter proxy host and port
4) Click 'Details' button to enter authentication data
5) In the details popup select Use authentication and enter username and
password
6) Click Apply to system widely

Then look at:

- /etc/environment
- /etc/apt/apt.conf

Current configuration:

- /etc/environment:

http_proxy=http://myproxy:3128/;

- /etc/apt/apt.conf:

Acquire::http::proxy http://myproxy:3128/;

Expected configuration:

- /etc/environment:

http_proxy=http://username:passw...@myproxy:3128/;

- /etc/apt/apt.conf:

Acquire::http::proxy http://username:passw...@myproxy:3128/;

2010-12-08 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Thanks. So everything works but the lock buttton, which means it's a bug
in polkit-gnome. The good news is, I'm going to stop using it in the
gnome-system-tools before the next release since it's not compatible
with GTK+ 3. We still need to find out what's going wrong, though - I'll
try to get more info from PolicyKit's author.

This is a mix of bug 685596, which is that users-admin doesn't report

PolicyKit/ConsoleKit not detecting that remove sessions are active
users.

To mitigate the problem, I'm going to allow non active users to
authenticate to perform admin tasks.

[Bug 687284] [NEW] Selecting Inbox from top panel menu doesn't do anything

2010-12-08 Thread Brendan Donegan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have two inboxes setup in Evolution ('Canonical' 'Personal'). In the
top panel menu (the envelope icon next to the date/time), there are menu
options (with an unread count) for each of the inboxes. When you select
one of these it brings Evolution to the front, but doesn't focus on the
inbox you selected.

Test case:

1.) Set up Evolution with two accounts
2.) Open Evolution
3.) Select (for example) 'Deleted Items' of your 'Personal' inbox.
4.) Minimise Evolution
5.) From the top-panel menu, select 'Work' (or whatever your 'other' inbox is
called) from the menu
6.) Note that the selected item in the left-hand menu is still 'Deleted Items'
of 'Personal'

I admit that is not *necessarily* a bug, but I do see it as a serious
usability issue. If I'm checking my unread email in my work inbox, then
the envelope turns green to tell me I have unread messages - I want to
go to the top-panel menu, select the 'Work' inbox (which has '1' unread
against it) and I want Evolution to drop me in that Inbox. Otherwise I
don't see the point of these menu options other than to display the
unread counts.

[Bug 629613] Re: Noise while seeking

2010-12-08 Thread tsg1zzn
I have this problem also. It seems there are two separate problems:

1. There is a ckrtsch noise when seeking. This problem is in gstreamer.

2. Totem seeks immediately while you drag the slider instead of playing
normally until you drop the slider, and then seek once. This problem is
in Totem. Of course, the consequences of this misbehavior are magnified
due to problem 1.

[Bug 686834] [NEW] metacity gets confused about which window to move

2010-12-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Using metacity on gnome in lucid:

 Steps to reproduce:
Before everything, make sure you turn of compiz (desktop effects).
  1) Open a terminal
  2) Maximize it
  3) Open another terminal, overlaying on top of the first one
  4) Try to grab the title bar of the second terminal, and you'll see the
grabbing cursor falls through onto the first window
  5) Move your mouse, you'll see the first window is de-maximized, and moves
with your cursor.
  6) This may not be reproducable on other computers, but is pretty
deterministic on the desktop where it appears

This seems to be the same as

[Bug 687375] [NEW] Empathy Does save yahoo aliases, but doesn't show them in them in the buddies list.

2010-12-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

There are several bug reports around about Empathy not saving the
aliases for Yahoo, but what I'm seeing is that it actually has saved
them (somewhere) because when I open the chat windows it shows the
edited aliases, but it is just in the buddies list* that it only shows
the Yahoo id.

So I don't know how related, different, or identical this is to previous
reports, but it doesn't seem to be exactly the same because of what is
mentioned in those reports - about there not being an API to save the
info, since it appears it is saved (somewhere). Maybe if I logged into
Yahoo somewhere else it wouldn't be saved?

So this bug report is basically that - if it can show them in the chat
window, perhaps it can/should be showing them in the list - even if it
didn't saved back to Yahoo, that perhaps is not possible.

* I don't know this is called in Empathy because my computer is in
Japanese, but hopefully you know what I mean.

[Bug 687444] [NEW] empathy contact list disappeared and seemed to be overlayed with 100% transparency

2010-12-08 Thread Lukas Jahns
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

i just started empathy and hacked in my icq and irc accounts, joined 2
irc-channels and wrote some lines, clicked links in one channel. in that time i
closed my contact list.
furthermore i switched all empathy windows to workspace 2 via hotkey.
when i wanted my contact list to show up again, it won't.
it just seems to be open, overlayed with 100% transparency, because when i
bring my cursor that way i can see user information pop up.
furthermore there are graphical artefacts in the upper right, over power and
sound incdicator, because i use to have my contact list on the right.
wow, i hope you guys understand this bug.

p.s.: links in the headline of irc-channels won't work either.

[Bug 687440] [NEW] [Natty] gdm login-screen does not work with enter

2010-12-08 Thread Harry
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

In Natty Narwhal 64 bit, the latest gdm upgrade to version 2.32.0-0ubuntu1
includes a regression.
In login screen, you cannot any longer hit enter to choose the user. Hitting
enter has no effect.
You have to click the user with mouse and then write your passwd.
This is not very handy either, because you use keyboard to type the passwd
anyway,
so it is natural to use the keyboard (enter) to choose the user too.

Downgrading to the version 2.30.5-0ubuntu5 solves the issue.

2010-12-08 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
I've eventually pushed the allow_any fix to the system-tools-backends
upstream, it should be available in 2.10.2 for Natty.

Somebody should really go over all actions from
/usr/share/polkit-1/actions/ and file a new bug task for all actions
that don't consider allow_any as a valid case without a good reason.

[Bug 615549] Re: gdm/kdm starting too early for DRM modules to load, no video

2010-12-08 Thread Karri Kaksonen
I have had the same problem since 10.04. On MSI EX600 running GeForce
8400M G driver version 260.19.21. The kernel is 2.6.35-24. Before
upgrading to 10.04 gdm worked perfectly but since then I get to the
shell 50% of the time. So Ubuntu 10.10 has not fixed this problem as of
today. Running on batteries or not makes no difference.

My gdm package is 2.30.5-0ubuntu4 (standard maverick package). Any
ideas?

[Bug 480731] Re: After upgrade to 9.10, Nautilus FTP adds space before some filenames

2010-12-08 Thread jbooth
For anyone still looking into this, we've recently notices this same
problem with a few other FTP programs and discovered that on AIX, ls -l
and ls through FTP show the date and time of a file if it is less than 6
months old. Older files get the time is replaced with the year. e.g.:

drwxr-sr-x5 nobody nogroup 256 Jun 30 10:51 bulletin
drwxr-sr-x6 nobody nogroup 256 Nov 06 2009 cfi
drwxr-xr-x6 nobody nogroup 256 Jan 15 2010 wpc

In this directory, Nautilus will only show the file with the time
correctly. The other two have the problem with the leading space. It
seems like somehow when Nautilus is parsing the ls output, that the
extra space is coming from the end of the date columns somehow.

I also tried editing /etc/init.d/gdm.conf as stated at top of this
thread with no effect. Also sudo service gdm start does not work. A
strange thing is that shutting down the laptop causes the NVidia logo to
appear immediately after pressing the power button to shut down the
machine. It appears that the driver is waiting for some user input or
signal at boot time. And it gets it when shutdown is started.

2010-12-08 Thread jbooth
A co-worker of mine was looking into why other people in our office
using Dreamweaver weren't having this problem and found this:

6. Specific FTP server issues

Macromedia has created a Dreamweaver MX 2004 extension for both Windows and
Macintosh that resolves some FTP conflicts with IBM AIX and OS/400 servers. You
should only install this extension if you are connecting to an IBM AIX or
OS/400 server. Symptoms of the problem include:
Access Denied errors when attempting to access files or folders older than the
current calendar year.
Dreamweaver cannot determine the remote server time errors and the
Synchronize function not working.
Incorrect information in the Files panel, like extra spaces, junk characters,
wrong kind of information in a particular field, etc. (Ref. 169317).

[Bug 683468] Re: Title bar not updating

2010-12-08 Thread Miguel Mendes Ruiz
it happens to occur with jpegs too

actually, it seems to be a problem with metacity and (maybe) the new
ubuntu font-set (just a guess)

they seem to be related.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1599297

I get the same issue with gedit
