[Bug 518533] Re: Unable to mount location Not Authorized after nautilus upgrade
This happened to me again when I did a new clean install of Ubuntu 10.10 (on two different machines with the same problem). The only workaround that works (for me) is to open two terminal windows and in the first go: sudo blkid to see the UUIDs of all devices. In the second go sudo gedit /etc/fstab and add an additional line for the device(s) that you can't mount. A couple of examples that work for me are: UUID=87b43805-e339-4953-9c9c-328e71c0abdc /media/budisc ext4 users,rw 0 0 UUID=744C979E4C975A26 /media/seagate ntfs users,rw 0 0 Have system/administration/disk utility open at the same time. [Bug 696076] Re: Nautilus crashes by open a folder with "too many" files
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. [Bug 696263] [NEW] Brasero increases set writing speed when copying from another disc
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero I tried copying one of my discs with Brasero. I inserted the written disc and waited for it to load. I right clicked on the disc icon on the desktop>Copy disc>Copy and burn to a blank disc in the drive. I went to properties and set the disc write speed to 8x. I started the reading part which went alright. I even inserted the blank disc when prompted and clicked OK and the disc ejected again and the software told me that I'd have to insert a blank disc EVEN THOUGH I did. I inserted it a second time and finally it started burning. Then, while I burned the disc, the speed jumped up to almost 14x. Though I set it to 8x. Whats up with that? [Bug 696258] [NEW] cannot get files from bluetooth device - copying hangs forever, makes nautilus eat 100%CPU
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus There must be more than one bug here, both in the package implementing bluetooth funcionalities, and in Nautilus itself - anyway it is hard for me to distinguish so the only thing I can do is report the problem as a whole. When trying to copy files from my phone to my computer via bluetooth I get the following problem 1) On my phone, I turn bluetooth on, I turn on its bluetooth visibility and make my files visible 2) In Ubuntu, I click on the bluetooth icon on the panel and select "browse files on device..." 3) I select the device and click "browse" 4) On the phone, I am prompted to allow the Pc to access the files; I accept 5) On the computer, a Nautilus window opens which allows me to browse the folders and files on the phone 6) In Nautilus, I leave this window open and I open a new one to browse my local hard disk 7) In Nautilus, I select the files on my phone and drag'n'drop them into a folder in my computer 8) Now on the phone I am prompted to give the Pc permission to get the files, and here the problems begin Normally, my phone would prompt me for each file to allow the transfer, and I would always accept. At random times, the following happens: 9) At any point, after accepting on the phone to allow getting the n-th file, the computer gets stuck and never goes on; the phone never prompts me to accept to allow getting the (n+1)-th file. This is the first bug (computer is failing to send the request for the following files; or the request has been lost for any reason, in which case the computer should either resend it or pop up an error message reporting the problem to the user, not just hang on forever) 10) Nautilus every once in a while starts consuming 100% CPU for a few seconds and then goes back to normal 11) the "File Operations" windows stays open and shows a "copying files to " progress bar which is stuck at a certain percentage and never goes on. If I click on the "X" on the right to abort the operation, the "X" turns gray but the operation is never aborted and the "File Operation" window stays open forever Here's the second clear bug in Nautilus: the file operation is not aborted. 12) If I close the "file operation" windows the way yoy close any window (with the close icon on the window's title bar), the window closes, but the icon on the panel indicating a copy operation still remains. By clicking on that icon on the panel, there is a "show copy dialog" option: if I click it, the copy dialog shows up again (and the progress bar is still at the same point). So basically there's no way to abort that copy operation other than manually killing the process or restarting the computer. 13) Nautilius still eats 100% CPU at random times. So I think there are a couple of separate but related issues: A) Bluetooth protocol implementation is terribly buggy. Copying files from a device can hang at any point. It is even possible that the phone's software is buggy and that the phone is not behaving correctly, but even if this is the case, the computer's response is unacceptable: it should give an error message and stop the operation, not hang on forever B) Nautilus has an issue in that when you try to abort a copy operation by clicking on the "X" on the right next to the progress bar, the abortion fails and the copy operation gets stuck forever and Nautilus even eats 100%CPU. ** After restarting the computer and repeating the process again and again, I get almost always the same result (with point 9 happening at any time, i.e. sometimes after the first file sometimes after copying N files, with varying N). Sometimes, instead, I get a different, still nonsense, behaviour: after point (8), and after I allow the transfer from the phone, I get a nonsense error message of which I remember the words "error" and "another operation" - something like "error copying file x: another operation is pedning" (these are not the exact words). [Bug 696115] Re: Timezone should not require superuser on laptop
We can't change PolicyKit permissions depending on whether the system is a laptop or not. So we'd have to make the change for all systems, which is not necessarily what people expect. And even laptops can be used e.g. in kiosks or schools, where you don't want people to play with system settings. [Bug 696115] Re: Timezone should not require superuser on laptop
Sorry. Let me be a bit more formal. I suggest that laptops are either: 1) single user * in which case changing the time zone won't hurt other users, or 2) physically shared amongst several people * in which case, they are in the same time zone, and if one user sets the zone, that is a positive benefit to other users, Occasionally, they might be 3) multi-user, shared amongst a small cooperating group of users. In which case if someone fools with the time zone, you send them a nasty e-mail. And they will very rarelyl be used as servers occupied by untrusted users out to cause trouble. [Bug 696115] Re: Timezone should not require superuser on laptop
Everybody shouldn't be allowed to set the system timezone by default, as it affects all users on the system. If you don't have administrator rights on your laptop, you can ask the administrator to grant you the rights for the org.gnome.clock.mechanism.settimezone PolicyKit action, but this decision can't be made by Ubuntu. Note that if you travel a lot, you may find convenient to define locations in the preferences of the panel's clock. This way, you can see the time in all the places you're interested in. Maybe the clock should support showing the time according to a location without changing the system timezone, but that would be another bug. ** Changed in: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/696115 Title: Timezone should not require superuser on laptop -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 582570] Re: VERY slow boot, no battery icon in panel
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager Occurs in both 9.10 and 10.04 though with slightly different behaviour (64-bit editions). I haven't tried the 32-bit editions, but this definitely wasn't a problem in 8.04 x64 In 10.04 a dialog box appears after password-entry relating to the stuck process. 4+ min boot time, no battery icon in gnome panel and the brightness keys do not function. Machine is an Acer 5685. No extra info, but several other people reporting similar thing here http://www.uluga.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1338256 - most with Acers. [Bug 646034] Re: Peculiar icon display in nautilus
I request this bug to be re-opened. I had supplied information as required. I also want to report that this problem has surfaced once again. Please see the attached screenshots wherein: 1. In one there is no alignment or proper arrangement of the folder icons. 2. In the other the icons are aligned but icon view does not sort the icons according to name as I want it to. Both problems have no explanation since I have done nothing to change settings. They have happened on their own. Expected behaviour: 1. All icons should be aligned/arranged properly 2. They should be arranged according to the order specified by user (name/size/date whichever) I can't figure this out since it has not happened before. Only seems a 10.04 problem Please re-open this bug or allow me to file a new one with the same report. ** Attachment added: "Misaligned icons - no arrangement" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/646034/+attachment/1781014/+files/Screenshot.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/646034 Title: Peculiar icon display in nautilus -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 58179] Re: Doesn't autohide on context menu close
In other words, I think part of the problem is tying autohide to mouse out.
