[Bug 698256] [NEW] All network file transfers crash nautilus and the file system.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I have tried SSHFS. NFS and samba and the same thing happens for all 3. When transferring a file or watching something over the network the connection drops after 10-15 minutes resulting in the death of nautilus but also any interaction from the filesystem via the command line. Setup: Ubuntu 10.10 (laptop) - DDWRT (router) - ArchLinux (main computer) The connection from the router to the main computer resets and ends up with a new IP address after the crash but nothing else on that side is affected all works fine. I attach a dump of dmesg and some samba files (i can only attach one file it's the dmesg dump), I'm really not sure what else to include. I do notice a lot of dropped connections in the dmesg with regards to wireless but i'm not sure how normal this is. Thanks. I applied the workaround in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/539477/comments/64 to make super+p work again in Maverick at the expense of breaking the Gnome monitor settings GUI. For those suffering, possible workarounds to the breakage the workaround causes are: a) to change monitor settings with the Gnome control panel, temporarily undo the workaround; or b) drive xrandr from the command line or use the arandr GUI front-end to xrandr instead of the Gnome GUI. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/694910 Title: Regression: patch to bug 539477 breaks Super+P keybindings -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 698275] [NEW] everytime i click an icon on the upper panel in gnome the panels dissappear
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Running Classic Desktop Edition i click on my icons for running apps example: Firefox icon the panel disappears than comes back after some time, not right away maybe 10-15 seconds. I expect the panel to stay showing. This didn't happen with the 100+ updates but after reboot/turn PC on it happens. Not sure what update it was, It has been a week or 2 since i last updated until this morning. I have 9 icons for apps and everyone causes this to happen. [Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts
@Alexey Kozlov, thanks for your well written summary of the problem. The one warning flag is the contradicts spec issue (which may be what has blocked this from being taken up 'til now), however the exact words from upstream about this seem less dire: The patch looks pretty much fine to me, except that I'd just hardcode release-only and don't try to make it configurable. I'm not entirely sure about the bit marked with KLUDGE, and would like to find a better way to do it, but if that's fixed (I'll try to have a look this weekend or next, depending on time), my only objection to merging it is that it explicitly contradicts the spec. I'm not entirely convinced that's a dealbreaker though. I can understand that voiding the spec is a blocker for upstream, but at the distro level there's a little bit more flexibility, especially given the top-level direction that we'll eventually move away from X11 towards something Wayland-ish anyway. It sounds like the next step required for this patch is to gain some more widespread testing. Since the change is behavioral, it seems low risk for causing crashes or other critical issues, so tentatively I'm willing to stick it in natty and see how it goes. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/36812 Title: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I am using Ubuntu 10.10 The rubbish bin won't empty. Also, if I click on the minus button on an open window, it vanishes completely and I have to open a new window. They don't show up on the bottom tool bar as I would expect them to. Just keep in mind that each time a universe package gets installed or removed, the list of available languages may change then. * As regards languages with more than one translation: When the country is not specified, does it matter which of the locales that is assigned to the LC_MESSAGES environment variable? No, it doesn't for messages. It is relevant for $LANG and other LC_* categories, of course. Why not? Falling back to en_GB for English, while the rest of the LC_* and LANG is en_US, should surely be avoided. en_US does specify a country, though. As we are always going to have en_GB as an explicit variant, this case doesn't apply to English or Portugese. I thought this was for the case if we only have de translations, then the country in LC_MESSAGES doesn't matter. right, missed that. I'll shut up now. I guess for the actual implementation in l-s and gdm we don't need to parse /usr/share/xml/iso-codes/, as these already have the translated names of the locales? hmm? l-s parses /usr/share/xml/iso-codes/ for exactly that reason. Right, but it does that already, and gdm doesn't (it'd take too long during boot). I was referring to Gunnar's perl script which currently parses those. ah, OK. :) Regarding gdm: why would a simple gettext call to iso-codes, like it is done in l-s, for the list of available languages/countries be too slow at boot time? Is there a notable time difference between calling the translation for a string form iso-codes and calling for a translation from its own translations? [Bug 393727] Re: Pictures folder: --location requires absolute path
I don't know how to make a patch but if you change this if statement around line 100 in savers/slideshow.c from if (location != NULL) { g_object_set (engine, images-location, location, NULL); } to something like if (location != NULL) { wordexp_t expanded_location; wordexp(location, expanded_location, 0); location = expanded_location.we_wordv[0]; g_object_set (engine, images-location, location, NULL); } and #include wordexp.h it will expand ~/Pictures correctly -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/393727 Title: Pictures folder: --location requires absolute path -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 445141] Re: Podcasts don't download if the files are all the same filename.
@Luca: I'm no authority on this but your situation looks strange. The filename you are seeing is constructed as a result of the patch that was submitted to fix the bug. However, for you podcast it shouldn't fall back to the escaped uri filename because gvfs-info reports that stardard::edit-name is set, which means edit-name should be taken as the filename (since copy-name is not set). I would look at the debug output when downloading any of those podcasts: run rhythmbox -d. Sidenote re my comment #19: it seems people do care about filenames. But handling podcasts with episodes with identical copy-name's (and/or edit- name's) still needs to be resolved. Perhaps a new bug needs to be submitted? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445141 Title: Podcasts don't download if the files are all the same filename. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
