[Bug 728911] Re: Rhytmbox crashed on startup if no internet access
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 655880 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/655880 Hi lolikandr, Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and make Ubuntu better. I believe this bug is a duplicate of one already filed, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/655880 for details. I will mark this as a duplicate of 655880. There is a work-around in that bug report claiming that removing the package rhythmbox-plugins will prevent the segfault when there is no connection (although this may have flow-on impacts if you utilise plugs ins). ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 655880 Rhythmbox crashes on startup with segfault * You can subscribe to bug 655880 by following this link: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/655880/+subscribe ** Changed in: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/728911 Title: Rhytmbox crashed on startup if no internet access -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 730006] Re: Rhythmbox randomly closes, sometimes mutes system volume
Hi Rod, Thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help make Ubuntu better. In order to fix the problem, we will need some more information about what is going wrong. I might deal with the volume issue and randomly closing separately. For volume mute on rhythmbox startup, is it always muted, or only sometimes? If only sometimes, is there some sort of pattern (other applications open/not open, indicators, etc)? If it is repeatable, it is probably best to run a Strace to show the muting to gather more information about what is going wrong. Please follow the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Strace and attach the log file to this bug report. For the random closing symptom, this may be more difficult. As above, does it appear to be triggered by any sort of action (specific inputs, songs, store for example)? The Strace above will not be particularly useful for the crash, we will need to run a Backtrace to see what is causing the crash. This may be problematic depending on how difficult it is to make it crash, however it will be extremely helpful if you could run a Backtrace. Please follow the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace, and post the log file to this bug report. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/730006 Title: Rhythmbox randomly closes, sometimes mutes system volume -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I can uncheck the File Checksum, File Downloader, Image Checksum, Normalization checkboxes, close brasero, and reopen it, the checkboxes show checked. I cannot uncheck the others, clicking on them does nothing. The checkboxes for configuring File Checksum and Image Checksum revert back to MD5 when closing and reopening brasero. wodim, growisofs, and cdrdao revert to unchecked if they are checked and brasero is closed and reopened. I have some new information, i finally know now what cause this problems: I have a account at hidrive.strato.de (kind of online space) which is mounted with sshfs Line from /etc/fstab: sshfs#@sftp.hidrive.strato.com:/users/ /media/HiDrive fuse uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=0,allow_other,_netdev 0 0 And when my internet reconnets, hidrive seems trying to remount it but fails at remounting and while it does that endlessly you can't use settingsdaemon .. until you do a sudo unmount -f /media/HiDrive. So .. i don't know if this is an error in sshfs or at strato. But I thank god, that I now know why Ubuntu does that. I hope some one that can now help reads that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/666015 Title: gnome-settings-daemon does stop working after a random time and hangs, is not able to be killed, only a restart helps. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Yes, Amr appears to be suggesting a workaround; to install a different piece of software (battery-status) and use that. [Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste
Slated, you're just another open source idiot who thinks open source programmers do everything the right way. In your opinion Linux does everything right and other operating systems are designed in a very bad and unsecure way. Those open source idiots do everything they can to defend Linux and open source. Even for the biggest and most stupid bugs they try to find a reason why it isn't a bug, but instead a great design feature of those open source programmers and of course the way it's implemented in Linux is way better than the way it's implemented in other operating systems. Please, slated, use your brains. Everyone can see the Linux way of implementing copy / paste is the most stupid design error ever made in an operating system. Copy / paste has to be implemented in the core of every operating sysrtem! It's completely ridiculous to expect developers of every single application to implement support for the Linux way of copy / paste. A developer of an application shouldn't have to worry about implementing copy / paste into his application. This support has to be there out of the box. The operating system itself should handle this. If Linux doesn't get core functionality like copy / paste done right, it'll never get more than 1% of market share. Every year you hear it's going to be the year of Linux on the desktop, but Linux has been hugging the 1% of market share for years now. The market share isn't growing and if Linux doesn't get these core features of an operating sytem implemented the right way, its market share will never exceed 1%. In the year 2053 Linux will still have a market share of 0.94% or something like that. Well, in my opinion that's already 0.94% too much market share. An operating system which sticks to ideas from the 1980's and is developed by people who think like slated just doesn't deserve any market share at all. People, just use a proper operating system. Use Mac OS X. Every Linux distribution just sucks. There's pyrates again, the only Launchpad member who uses his brains. The only person here on Launchpad who really knows what he's talking about. Again, you've written a really good comment and I couldn't agree more. Kiki, to have this bug fixed like it needs to be fixed, there have to be made changes to Xorg. Fixing this bug for every single just isn't the right way to fix this bug. Actually it wouldn't even be a bug fix, but just a workaround to have those applications work without actually fixing the bug itself. The workaround of implementing copy / paste in every application is completely ridiculous. There are thousands of applications which can be installed in Ubuntu. You can't implement this functionality in all of those applications. After all those years copy / paste has only been implemented in a couple of applications. There are thousands of applications left to be fixed. Besides those existing applications, there's the problem of new applications being released every year. Almost every new application which is released doesn't have copy / paste implemented. After a new application has been released users have to be complaining for years to have copy / paste implemented. Firefox is one of the most used applications and it has taken years before copy / paste was finally implemented (actually we are still waiting, because Firefox 4 stable still hasn't been released). OpenOffice.org is also used a lot on Linux, but it still hasn't copy / paste implemented after all those years! How long do you think it'll take to implement copy / paste in every application? That's just completely impossible. You can't fix this bug by implementing copy / paste in every application. It just needs to be fixed at the core! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a subscriber of a duplicate bug (36165). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/11334 Title: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 729591] [NEW] Turn off the monitor after "locking screen"
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver After we press Ctrl-Alt-L or use Indicator Applet Session to lock the screen, the screen isn't actually turned off, but just left blank there. I think this is not reasonable -- since the screen no longer shows any information and just keep ON, wasting energy. Hope this could be fixed by adding an option to turn off the screen power after locking screen. ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver After we press Ctrl-Alt-L or use Indicator Applet Session to lock the screen, the screen isn't actually turned off, but just left blank there.
