Just to be clear, in case people have not read that blog or the links in it. Its not just plain removing the app brand name. [Bug 732867] Re: gnome-display-properties monitor layout not saved when using docking station (and display port)
By default, GNOME runs with 4 virtual workspaces. For your first bug, I suspect that the windows you are "losing" are actually on a different virtual workspace. Try pressing Ctrl-Alt-Right arrow and see if your windows are there. Your window manager is responsible for reconfiguring windows when the monitor layout changes. This is a distinct bug from the other behavior you described, so it would be helpful if you could split that issue out to a different bug report. It should be filed against either the compiz package (if you have visual effects turned on) or the metacity package (if you have visual effects off). As for the monitor layout issue, I see a few strange things going on, so let's start by gathering some more information: - Do you have a ~/.config/monitors.xml file? Can you attach it? - Run `touch ~/gsd-debug-randr`. If you then repeat your test cases above, you should get a ~/gsd-debug-randr.log file. Can you upload that as well? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/732867 Title: gnome-display-properties monitor layout not saved when using docking station (and display port) -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 732867] [NEW] gnome-display-properties monitor layout not saved when using docking station (and display port)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center This happens on Lucid 10.4.02 with gnome-control-center version 1:2.30.1-0ubuntu1 I am not sure this is specifically gnome-control-center, but I figured I'd start with that package and we can move as appropriate. There appears to be two bugs here, but I wanted to keep the initial report as one issue, in case they're actually related. For what it's worth, I have reproduced this issue on a Lenovo X200 and have users internally who can reproduce this issue on a Lenovo X201 and a T410 on several different types and sizes of external monitor (all attached via display port -> DVI converters). The two issues are: - Windows "get lost" when display properties change. - The display property preferences aren't saved when undocking / re-docking. Here's how to reproduce: - Install Lucid Laptop on an X200 - Attach the laptop to a docking station connected by display port -> dvr to a 24" monitor - Configure (system -> preferences -> monitor) displays to not be mirrored, show monitors in panel checked, drag the monitor to a different orientation, and increase the resolution in the monitor to something other than what the laptop has. - Open a web browser, put it in the 24" display. - Open a terminal and a gnome app (I used gnome mine) in the laptop display. - Detach the laptop (without suspending) to simulate going to a meeting, etc. At this point the first bug (about windows getting messed up) occurs. Notice that, while the browser window is moved to the laptop display, the gnome mines and original terminal disappeared. If I open a new terminal and run ps, I can see they're still running, but they're not on any of my visible/accessible displays. - Re-attach the laptop to the docking station At this point, the second bug is reproduced. The monitor configuration has reverted to "mirrored displays." When I reset my preferences to what I want, the original browser window (as well as the preferences window) moves to the 24" monitor, but my gnome mines are still missing, as well as the original terminal (the new terminal I opened in the laptop while detached in order to check for the disappeared window's pids is moved to the new monitor). ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: glucid lucid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/732867 Title: gnome-display-properties monitor layout not saved when using docking station (and display port) -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 105685] Re: Totem's menu entry should read "Totem Movie Player"
This is not a bug and not something we are going to change in Ubuntu or in Upstream GNOME, for more detailed info kindly read : http://blogs.gnome.org/mccann/2009/08/08/whatchamacallit/ In short, Even though GNOME is built from several individual apps, the user should not be made to feel that these are separate, it's just that we want the apps to be part of the OS and a unified user experience. If any other GNOME app is displaying the name, that would need to be fixed. [Bug 732757] [NEW] time-admin and indicator-datetime-preferences overlap in appearance and functionality
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools Now that indicator-datetime-preferences is about to get a .desktop file, (https://code.launchpad.net/~mterry/indicator-datetime/fix-show- clock/+merge/52890), it and time-admin look similar and do the same thing to the user. We should not install time-admin in the Ubuntu seed. However, it is currently bundled together as part of gnome-system-tools. So it should be split out and made its own package. [Bug 732738] [NEW] netbook cannot use larger monitor
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Under Maverick, I could connect my Acer (AOA150) netbook (1024x600) to a 1024x768 monitor and use gnome-display-properties to turn the netbook screen off and use the monitor at full resolution. With Natty Alpha 3, the same procedure gives me what appears to be a 1024x600 image of the screen (desktop, decorations, background apps), pinned to the bottom of the screen, leaving the top 1/4 of the monitor blank. However, the visuals that are displayed only appear to respond...in part...to mouse clicks on the part of the screen they should appear at. For example, the Monitors applet displays a visual change when I click on a blank spot about 2 inches above it, but does not respond when clicked on directory. This worked under both metacity and mutter using Maverick. During installation (or just after the first boot) (with both monitors running) I received a message saying that there was not enough memory for Compiz to do something, but I cannot remember the exact text. [Bug 580961] Re: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings
Στις 10-03-2011, ημέρα Πεμ, και ώρα 15:04 +, ο/η Martin Pitt έγραψε: > But AFAIK the new -I and -O options already work. I thought the > remainder of the problem was that the value isn't autodetected, but > needs to be specified manually? No, the -I and -O options do not work properly. It looks like something, maybe just a couple of lines, were missing from the Natty patch. I described the current situation in comment #89: * Extracting works: UNZIP="-o cp737" unzip archive.zip * Listing doesn't: UNZIP="-o cp737" unzip -l archive.zip Since listing doesn't work, file-roller also doesn't work (it uses `unzip -ZTs`, i.e. listing in zipinfo mode). And no, I'm not talking about autodetection, libnatspec wasn't used in the upstream patch and it fails to autodetect Greek anyway (haven't tested other locales).
