No problem with rhythmbox on ubuntu lucid 10.04 But, 2 weeks ago i have fresh installed ubuntu maverick 10.10 (ubuntu desktop iso i've downloaded doesn't support upgrading). Then problem arise, time slider doesn't move at all, while the play time works. I've upgraded to rhythmbox 0.13.1-0 still the problem persist. I noticed that a small number of mp3 files could be played without having this time slider problem. I have all gstreamer plugins 0.10 (the latest, as far as i know) installed, except the "bad" set. So i suspecting this is the source of the problem. Then i installed the "bad" set with hope this could solve the problem. [Bug 12040] Re: GNOME "Main Menu" panel applet slow to open on first click (NOT compiz related)
Apparently I made somebody angry, because they subtracted from karma, which I do not believe in, in the first place. - Open source should also allow for open mind. I believe in fast & stable apps & intelligent, logical programs. The Main Menu in Ubuntu has way to many flaws, & that for many years now. It has not kept up with modern improvements, as the rest of Ubuntu. - Examples: 1.) It takes longer to open, then log-out, log-in, or warm boot back to Maverick. - Main Menu should auto-start, & be ready to use as soon as the desktop is fully on the monitor! 2.) "Edit Menus" function is unbelievably slow, awkward, agonizing & archaic, only one item at a time can be moved, some items refuse to move all together; icons are missing at times, & can take many minutes to manually find, since someone has removed the icon viewer which was a wonderful app. 3.) The more one tries to edit the Main Main, the more does the program fight one, until it totally refuses to work correctly. 4.) One finally gives up, & ends up with sky high menus, which when they get too high must be scrolled, except, that the items on the bottom of the scroll cannot be selected, unless one presses & holds the key & uses the mouse at the same time. Main Menu does not just have bugs, it really needs to be replaced to become an easy, modern app, that will improve the Ubuntu experience, a really open & friendly menu that will snap to the needs of the modern user. [sorry, but no attachment or patch can truly fix the archaic Main Menu, I stand by my comment of 2011-02-13.] I have confidence, that the Ubuntu Masters can revolutionize a menu better then any other OS. [Bug 735665] Re: Impossible to disable middle-click paste without breaking the middle mouse button
As per upstream's comments, X allows this to be configured, so it's up to the toolkit/desktop to expose the configuration functionality to users. Note, sometimes desktop environments like to avoid providing too much configuration options to avoid confusing users, so will make educated choices about the optimum default settings and limit configuration. Thus it is possible this might be a WONTFIX bug by gnome-desktop; in such case your options are either to utilize the lower level config tools provided by X itself (e.g. xinput, as you mentioned), or if it really bothers you, select a desktop environment where these options are more exposed. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => gnome-desktop (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-desktop in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/735665 Title: Impossible to disable middle-click paste without breaking the middle mouse button -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 735665] [NEW] Impossible to disable middle-click paste without breaking the middle mouse button
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I've found plenty of forum posts from other people complaining about this but I couldn't find an existing but report in Launchpad. It baffles me to find that there is no way to disable the middle-click screen buffer "paste" feature without breaking the middle-click button on the mouse altogether. I'm sure there are lots of people who think it's nifty. However, for me and others, it is just annoying. If I am scrolling in a text editor like Gedit and the middle-click button actually gets pressed, it often pastes a chunk of text in the middle of the document and I don't notice because I scroll right by. This leads to trouble later on. My searching indicates that a common solution to this problem is to re- map the middle-click button to something else (so that it behaves like either the left or right button, or just does nothing), using xinput or by editing Xorg.conf. However, this breaks other applications that use the middle mouse button for other things (opening and closing tabs in Firefox, middle-click scroll). There should be a solution to this problem other than "map the middle- click button to something else" and "get a new mouse that doesn't accidentally click." I don't care if it's setting an option in an obscure text file. To reproduce: - Open Gedit. - Type some text. - Select some text. - Middle-click somewhere in the document. - Selected text is copied to where you middle-clicked. - No (documented) way to disable this behavior without re-mapping the middle-mouse button, breaking other middle-click functionality. @Neil J. Patel The Nautilus crash when clicking the close button is due to one of the overlay-scrollbar packages. Don't know which one but running without those overlay-scrollbar packages works. Clearing the screen with ^L clears the screen of shadows. The issue doesn't happen for all background colors.
