[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits
Rodrigo, for me, the sleep-workaround didn't help in any way, either (even with sleep 5 or sleep 10). And I'm on the fast end :) As said, for me, gdm's gnome-settings-daemon seems to actually hang after I'm logging in. Still seems to be some kind of a race condition, as this only happens maybe 1 in 15 times or so. [Bug 732688] Re: irc #rooms persistent setting
This issue also bothers me. The way Pidgin handles this is much more elegant. The way Emapthy handles it at the moment forces people to leave a window open for each channel, which clutters the (Unity) launcher with applications that really should be running in the background. Idling is a pretty standard practice on IRC. It seems odd that Empathy leaves a channel just because the window is closed. I imagine the issue is because of the modularity of the Telepathy framework but it's very irritating nonetheless. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/732688 Title: irc #rooms persistent setting -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 615859] Re: Select windows when the mouse moves over them is incompatible with global menu bar
Wouldn't an option to disable the global menubar (as suggested in bug #734325) be the better solution? Focus follows mouse is and has ever been an integral part of using a graphical environment in Linux. I agree that most of the switchers probably don't use it but don't let forget that this was was the default behavior of most window mangers in the past. (And last I looked Ubuntu still was a Linux derivate, not a MacOS X clone.) Another point for making the global menubar disableable is that while it may be good to have the menu always at the same position it definitely increases the mouse paths which can also be quite counterproductive. (At least with a decent screen.) And yes, I know the global menubar can be disabled by removing libappmenu.so, but an config option would be a cleaner way. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/615859 Title: Select windows when the mouse moves over them is incompatible with global menu bar -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 747730] [NEW] DVD created successfully, but files unusable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero I have twice tried to back up some files/folders with Brasero (Brasero 2.32.0). Once by bringing Brasero up from the Menu, and once by selecting Open with CD/DVD Creator from the pop-up window created when the disk was inserted. Both times it seemed to work. However, when I checked the files (for instance, double clicking on a photo to bring up the Image Viewer (thumbnails were all the generic JPG symbol instead of miniature pictures (a bad initial sign...)), a word processor file to bring up OpenOffice 3.2, or a .pdf. file to bring up the Document Viewer), the action was unsuccessful - either the program said that something was wrong with the file and it could not load it, or the file seemed to be gibberish. I have no idea what the problem is, and Brasero seems not to know anything is wrong. Does it not compare the original files with the burned final product to see if it was correctly done? On the off chance that my disk burner was at fault, I installed a different burner (GnomeBaker (GnomeBaker 0.6.4)), and had success - all checked files were fine. The disks are unlikely to be at fault - they are Taiyo-Yuden/JVC disks. scott@scott-Dimension-8200:~$ uname -a Linux scott-Dimension-8200 2.6.35-28-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Tue Mar 1 14:40:58 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux scott@scott-Dimension-8200:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 10.10 Release:10.10 The following seems obvious, but... 3) What you expected to happen Files on created disk that identically matched the original files. 4) What happened instead Files on created disk were unusable. [Bug 737891] Re: [Arrandale] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA
Hi Andres, I can't tell from the logs if it is a dupe, but I posted a fix to a vaguely similar issue (bug #747205) to this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~bryce/+archive/cherry I've a hunch that fix might help with this one too, would you mind installing that package and testing? [Bug 747761] [NEW] randomly opens file in new window instead of new tab
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit Steps to reproduce: 1) Navigate to some folder with Nautilus 2) Double click on a text file (or right click - open with gedit) 3) Double click on some other text file 4) And so on Expected behaviour: Every new file should be opened in a new tab of the same gedit window. Or it may be acceptable that every new file would _always_ be opened in a new gedit window. Best would be to be able to configure this in the preferences Observed behaviour: Usually the new file is opened in a new tab of the same gedit window. At random times however, the new file is opened in a new gedit window even if there is already another gedit window open. There doesn't seem to be a logic: it does not depend for example on the number of files already open. It seems to be random. [Bug 49127] Re: Long file names are truncated without warning
I have the problem in Ubuntu 10.10. I burn using Brasero with long photo file names(up to maybe 120 characters). No problems with any applications or file management in Ubuntu. But I need to share the photos with relatives who are using XP, and some on Win7. Opening the CD in XP, the file names become 8.3. But note, when sending a long file name out of Ubuntu as an attachment, and receiving it in XP, the long file name is retained. Put the file on the desktop and it can be used like any other file. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/49127 Title: Long file names are truncated without warning -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 731481] Re: second window does not open CTRL-T
Thanks Bernhard, No sftp is a different protocol than Samba. Samba connects to Windows shared folder. But both rely on the network. I've been struggling to reproduce the problem, now I will try with sftp. I'm starting to think we're seeing network issues. A dropped or corrupted packet could be causing the hang up. I think a much better action would be for the system to report the error or better yet retry it a few times. So the problem is how do we prove it or find a way to repeat it. Tell me about your network. Are you on a wireless or wired connection between the system that hangs and the one with the files? How reliable is it? What kind of through put are you getting? Are you connecting to a system on your local network or over the Internet? Perhaps we could get it to happen and then to a ping for a few minutes and see if any packets are lost. I'll see if I can find a network testing tool that simulates an unreliable network. [Bug 748027] [NEW] gnome-system-log: cannot read when scrolled-back
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-utils I am trying to read earlier entries in the kern.log or the syslog so I use the scroll bar on the text view to attempt to scroll back but I am constantly thwarted by gnome-system-log scrolling to the tail of the file because a new line was added to the log. gnome-system-log does this even WHILE I am dragging the scroll elevator up attempting to view earlier entries in the log! I appreciate the value of automatically scrolling to the tail of the log when a new entry is added. But doing so when the user is attempting to scroll back to read earlier entries is thwarting the user's use of the scroll bar. I suggest that if the user has scrolled back to view earlier entries in the log, gnome-system-log should suspend it's scroll to tail when new entries added behavior until the user has scrolled to the end of the log again.
