[Bug 757202] [NEW] Tray icon image is missing
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager Battery indicator (or tray icon, whatever it is) is missing the battery/power source image. Instead it shows some kind of blank document icon (or is it a terminal icon? no idea). See screenshot. It's functional, clicking it produces working menu, it's just the icon that is missing, so you can't tell the battery/charging status by looking at the icon. [Bug 757431] [NEW] gdm does not start normally, blue screen, no usersnames
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm this may affect other packages too. I am using ubuntu 11.04 just upgraded today (2011-04-11, april 11) at 11:00 am, gmt+2 my system breaked, gdm cannot show normally. a blue screen with a menu saying only other, not users. when I click on other, username is requested. I enter username and pass, but no desktop is loaded. I tested with all desktop types, including ubuntu, ubuntu-classic, ubuntu-safe etc. I could send this message this way: ctrl+f2, go to console, /etc/init.d/gdm stop startx (luckily I had gnome-do auto run on xserver startup, so I could run a console and then, firefox... ) now, x-windows is running (through console, root user) but I have no nautilus, nor unity, applications menu, system menu or any other panel. I have just a running x session, on which I could manage to run a console session... please help. how to fix this ? # uname -a Linux me 2.6.38-8-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 5 19:30:49 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux # cat /etc/*ele* DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=11.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=natty DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu Natty (development branch) # X -version X.Org X Server 1.10.0 Release Date: 2011-2-25 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.24-27-server x86_64 Ubuntu Current Operating System: Linux me 2.6.38-8-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 5 19:30:49 UTC 2011 x86_64 Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-8-generic root=UUID=f3d05518-785c-40a4-896d-d76830a322b5 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 Build Date: 01 April 2011 07:15:51AM xorg-server 2:1.10.0-0ubuntu3 (For technical support please see http://www.ubuntu.com/support) Current version of pixman: 0.20.2 Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org to make sure that you have the latest version. # gdm --version GDM 3.0.0 # nautilus --version GNOME nautilus 3.0.0 ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/757431 Title: gdm does not start normally, blue screen, no usersnames -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Sam, Cancel is quite important for users where some operations may take quite a while to be processed, such as in Exchange accounts. [Bug 756697] Re: evolution crashes the computer while trying to restore settings from backup file
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/756697 Title: evolution crashes the computer while trying to restore settings from backup file -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

@Mark: We know that long term muscle memory for corner activation is just as good as the edge approach. You seem to be forgetting that accessing an icon launcher is a two-phase approach: 1 - revealing the launcher 2 - going to the icon Your assumption above is valid for (1) but not for (2), because (2) does not benefit from Fitt's law and thus distance matters. On 11/04/11 15:43, Conscious User wrote: Your assumption above is valid for (1) but not for (2), because (2) does not benefit from Fitt's law and thus distance matters. Imagine a user with a large monitor wanting to access the Trash. Trash is very easy, in fact, since *both* targets are effectively infinite in size. By design ;-) More difficult is an icon somewhere along the length of the launcher. [Bug 754583] Re: UIFe: Launcher - update launcher reveal interaction to make it more accessible to first time users
@Mark Okay, allow me to rephrase: your assumption is valid for *muscle memory* but not for *efficiency*. Trash does benefit from infinite size, but that does not change the fact that the corner approach requires two movements instead of just one. Not to mention that hovering through all the icons to reach the one you want will activate all the tooltips in the way, which is quite distracting. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/754583 Title: UIFe: Launcher - update launcher reveal interaction to make it more accessible to first time users -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
