this is still there on release and it's extremely annoying, also the

drums play each start-up no matter what options are changed. This is
highly unacceptable when you are in a public place and have a crowd

[Bug 779992] Re: Contacts not syncing with Google Accounts

2011-05-10 Thread Jonners59
There is NO Question the two are very similar and I am sure related.
I do not think it is number of contacts related. I have a number of accounts
on a number of machines that I sync, including my wife's and she has only a few
contacts and that won't sync either.

I think there is something missing in the build for 11:04/Evolution and
it just won't sync. I noticed that it shows up in my log report
generated by the Report Bug tool, which is good. It has worked in all
my builds up to now (from 8:04)...

Have you managed to get anywhere/response from developers as yet? This
is beginning to cause me problems as I use this for my work and as a
sole trader has a high impact.

[Bug 778876] Re: panel

2011-05-10 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

[Bug 304889] Re: Does not use system proxy settings

2011-05-10 Thread Michael
I would like to repeat my question to Nicolas or anyone else qualified
to answer (i.e. with whatever committing privileges are required). What
would be needed to fix this, and would it be possible with a drive-by
contribution amount of work? I definitely can't promise anything for
time reasons, but I would at least like to take a look at what is
involved if I had a bit of confidence that patches I might write would
get somewhere.

[Bug 778877] Re: Nautilus segfaults when opening .3gp file properties

2011-05-10 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 778638] Re: evince-thunbnailer gets permission denied from apparmor (and hangs the system for long periods of time)

2011-05-10 Thread James Turner
Not experienced the hanging issue, but operation of evince-thumbnailer
over the network is restricted as of 2.32.0-0ubuntu10 - see bug #720961.
One of the knock-on effects of this is that thumbnails of PDF files,
etc, no longer work on NFS shares. The fault reported here may be a
regression issue arising from this change?

[Bug 780373] [NEW] evolution not asking for password in natty

2011-05-10 Thread Joakim Kargaard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When setting up evolution for the first time in a clean Natty install,
all the settings are entered correctly but when sending/receiving, it
does not ask for a password for the IMAP account and therefore does not
download the mail. All it does it sit there saying connecting 0%. I have
set the account up with the same details in Thunderbird and the account
works, so it is not a problem with the email account. The problem seems
to be with evolution in natty. I have tested a few mail accounts and all
do the same thing. In 10.10 we were using evolution and IMAP without a
problem. Please can someone take a look at this problem?

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2011-05-10 Thread MikeCz
Additional note: Switching to the Blank screensaver did not make a
difference, though it seems to be correlated to having the lid of my
laptop closed for approx 20 minutes, and it is more noticable if I have
things running onscreen when it happens.

Manually killing gnome-screensaver and compiz doesn't seem to make a
difference; nothing short of a full reboot seems to bring it back to
normal. Haven't tried it with just the blank Unity desktop.

For now I've just disabled the screensaver until I get word that this is
fixed.

[Bug 780400] [NEW] Unable to start Evolution from keyboard

2011-05-10 Thread Jordi Margalef
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Until I upgraded to Natty, was able to start Evolution from my keyboard. Now,
only able to do so after I started Evolution from Unity. Via Applications.
When the E-MAIL key is pressed after log-in, Evolution doesn't load as
expected. Would it be possible to start Evolution straight after log-in from
keyboard again?

[Bug 609861] Re: Process list shoud have filter by process name

2011-05-10 Thread James M. Roche
I guess this is technically a feature request, not a bug, but I've been
annoyed about this for some time. It's a much-needed functionality that
would be easy to implement and would perhaps double the program's
usefulness.

Are the dev's afraid I'd be 'confused' by such an advanced capability,
and that my workflow would be 'simpler' and more 'intuitive' if I'm
forced to manually scroll through an enormous list to find what I'm
looking for? I still like Gnome/Ubuntu more than the alternatives, but
sometimes... :O

[Bug 779509] Re: keyboard layout settings not remembered

2011-05-10 Thread SoftKnight
Oh, it shouldn't be a suggestion. I think it is the same bug and I
described how it behaves on my system. The common thing is: our keymap
will not be remembered across reboots. After several reinstallations I
can say, it won't be solved by choosing other install options.

BTW, my Natty Desktop (not a VM) is not affected.

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2011-05-10 Thread MikeCz
More info: after several tries, with only the Unity desktop running and
letting the machine sit for approx 20 minutes with the lid closed, the
screen kept flickering between the unlock screen and the blank desktop.
I ran a ps -eaf from a virtual termial and saw a line related to the
lock screen, but did not write down the command for the process (will
try to duplicate it again and capture that.

It too my unlock password, and it stopped flickering and went to the
blank desktop, and after killing gnome-screensaver and Compiz I had to
reboot the machine (via init 6).

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2011-05-10 Thread MikeCz
OK, it is locked up as before, and I see some relevant lines:

usernameProcessID Parent ID command

me 1535 1 /usr/bin/gnome-screensaver --no-daemon
me 1726 1535
/usr/lib/gnome-screensaver/gnome-screensaver-dialog --status-message=
--enable-switch
me 1906 1535/usr/lib/xscreensaver/fiberlamp -root

And when I do a ctrl-alt-F7, it won't redraw the screen, even after
killing these processes.

And now I'll go back to disabling the screensaver until this gets fixed;
I'm not that good with X.

I already explained many times how to fix this *right now* (in fact more

The fact of the matter is that Ubuntu people don't care, otherwise they
would have marked it as critical as I suggested in comment #79. It will
be on the next release cycle somebody said as an excuse. And here we
are a year later.

[Bug 723458] Re: libgtk2 2.24.0 break Lotus Notes user interface

2011-05-10 Thread Gastón del Rivero
guys see what I just found on the ibm forum for the open client for
debian community:

as far as I understood from the last OCDC call Jose is working on a kind of
ibm-lotus-notes-fixes or ...-compat package. We already had something like this
in the early Jaunty days ...
Btw. this Notes issue also seems to exist on newer Fedora releases - so we are
not alone

that was written by a german architect who works for IBM, and,
considering the amount of posts he has, and the fact that he's always
trying to help (not sure if he's part of the developers team or
something) he has the right information. so we can consider this is
moving forward :)

[Bug 775345] Re: USB headset not selectable in Output tab of Sound Preferences

2011-05-10 Thread Ghilteras
still affected by this bug, killall pulseaudio doesn't help, infact the
usb headset simply won't show in my /proc/asound/cards nor in my
hardware tab of the gnome volume manager

I still can see it listed unders lsusb

Bus 002 Device 008: ID 0d8c:000c C-Media Electronics, Inc. Audio Adapter

the fact that Dennis found his headphones working magically again out of
nothing probably only proves that it's completely unrelated to the
matter, none of us that cant even see the device in the hardware tab
can, infact, experience any kind of crash with gnome-volume-manager or
test speaker so as I already said I'd suggest to keep the bugs separated

[Bug 778877] Re: Nautilus segfaults when opening .3gp file properties

2011-05-10 Thread drey
Enabled in /etc/default/apport and tried to restart apport:

$ /etc/init.d/apport restart
Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
utility, e.g. service apport restart

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
Upstart job, you may also use the restart(8) utility, e.g. restart apport
start: Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type=method_call,

[Bug 779689] Re: The clock on the panel colors itself even if other applet is activated

2011-05-10 Thread Sebastian Bugiu
Looks like it's not just the clock, but a more generic bug: Any icon
previously clicked will light up if and indicator panel is expanded. So
for example if the last icon clicked was the start firefox icon then the
shutdown panel was clicked, the panel expanded with the usual suspend,
restart etc but the back of the firefox icon lights up. When the
indicator is closed the icon also switches off.

[Bug 779509] Re: keyboard layout settings not remembered

2011-05-10 Thread SoftKnight
Yes. I have the standard Ubuntu Natty Narwhal installed onto my Inspiron
1501 with Gnome and Unity. No problems with the keymap anywhere and also
after reboots.

On both systems I am using the same keymap: Desktop works, Server dosn't
and I have no idea why. Hope there is a guru out there who can
solve this issue.

Very nasty bug. Have it since over one year. Maybe some buggy old config

Sucks... Otherwise really like evolution.

2011-05-10 Thread Flames_in_Paradise
Must apologize, commiting a fix is something else, than what I did. It
was just a description of programm handling, within the given measures a
described in the online documention.

Therefor I changed the status back to new because it won't change the
programm, neither is it a patch to it.

Users may try to use it, or revert it back to the standard it. It's at
least changeable within the given pattern

[Bug 780640] [NEW] GTK theme resets after several seconds after logging in, but only when the .themes directory exists

2011-05-10 Thread Jacob Godserv
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

If I create a .themes directory, log in, and watch for several seconds,
the GTK theme goes back to the blocky grey default GTK look. Many of the
icons remain, but most revert back to GTK defaults as well.

I didn't know which package this applies to, so I guessed. I hope you
don't mind.

[Bug 780652] [NEW] Popup menus show on the 1st X server display for some applets on the 2nd display in 11.04

2011-05-10 Thread Joseph Coffland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

This bug is related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
panel/+bug/774427 which was recently fixed.

Right clicking on certain applets in the second display causes the popup
menu to show up on the first display. It is important to note that this
occurs on configurations with multiple X-servers not with Twin-View. It
happens with at least the following applets:

  Window List
  Window Selector
  Workspace Switcher

And possibly the clock applet as well.

I already tested the following patch but it did not help:
