[Bug 795388] [NEW] GEdit doesn't guess the encoding if file is opened with doubleclick
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit To reproduce: Open GEdit. Write some text in cyrilic. Save the file *with the Windows-1251* encoding. Close the file. Open the file through the Open dialog or through recently opened files within GEdit. File opens fine. Now close GEdit, and open the file by double clicking on it. File opens with gibberish (most likely thinking that it's a UTF8 file). What i expect to happen. There should be a setting allowing me to say that i want the encoding guessed for the file when it's opened via double-click (or through the terminal). Note: Guessing the encoding should *not* become the default feature. UTF-8 should remain default. UTF-8 should never be broken once it works correctly, the problem is with the old style encodings. ** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gedit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/795388 Title: GEdit doesn't guess the encoding if file is opened with doubleclick To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/795388/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 795392] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in __run_exit_handlers()
** Visibility changed to: Public ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon I attempted to shut down an Oneiric i386 system in a unity-2d session (with gnome-settings-daemon 3.0.2-1ubuntu2) using the indicator-session menu. All my application windows, desktop icons, the Unity launcher, and the top panel disappeared, leaving a completely blank desktop, and I anticipated that X11 was going to quit at any moment, but then Apport informed me that gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in __run_exit_handlers(). The Apport window had no title bar. I tried to report the bug in that state, but was unable to do so because, after resizing the window to get a better look at the stack trace, I was unable to interact with the window's contents (i.e., clicking on buttons and other UI elements had no effect). Since I was also unable to quit Apport, I switched to a virtual console and rebooted the machine. The semantic similarity (both pertaining to functions run when the application quits) and slight stack trace similarity seems to suggest a - possible between this bug and bug 788710. + possible connection between this bug and bug 788710. It should work but depends on the application. There are different places to set the proxy settings: * Environment variables in /etc/environment * apt settings: Acquire::http::proxy and also https and ftp in /etc/apt/apt.conf or /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/ * the dconf keys located at org.gnome.system.proxy * and some application seems to be looking at the legacy gconf keys /system/proxy and /system/http_proxy, but it should have been converted to dconf. --- Ubuntu Bug Squad volunteer triager http://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/795519 Title: Oneiric disregards network proxy settings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/795519/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug. [Bug 795587] Re: Nautilus crashes
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/795587 Title: Nautilus crashes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/795587/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 558674] Re: Open file dialog malfunctions in lucid
Shame on you, Ubuntu, for leaving this bug unfixed nine months after it was (supposedly) fixed upstream. Is this supposed to be a rock-solid LTS operating system, where something as critical as the file open dialog doesn't even work properly? Leaving the importance low when there is the possibility of uploading the wrong file to a work-critical website? Are you kidding me? Shame on you. Shame on you. The thing that really puzzles me is that there must be so many Canonical workers/Ubuntu volunteers packaging upstream fixes... I mean I must have installed at least 1000 updates to packages from upstream since October 10th. But a bug fixed upstream that affects one of the most basic, fundamental UI functions... low priority. Low priority! I've been with you guys since the days of Warty.
