[Bug 795388] [NEW] GEdit doesn't guess the encoding if file is opened with doubleclick

2011-06-10 Thread Volodya
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

To reproduce:
Open GEdit.
Write some text in cyrilic.
Save the file *with the Windows-1251* encoding.
Close the file.
Open the file through the Open dialog or through recently opened files within
GEdit.
File opens fine.
Now close GEdit, and open the file by double clicking on it.
File opens with gibberish (most likely thinking that it's a UTF8 file).

What i expect to happen.
There should be a setting allowing me to say that i want the encoding guessed
for the file when it's opened via double-click (or through the terminal).

Note: Guessing the encoding should *not* become the default feature.
UTF-8 should remain default. UTF-8 should never be broken once it works
correctly, the problem is with the old style encodings.

** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 795392] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in __run_exit_handlers()

2011-06-10 Thread Eliah Kagan
** Visibility changed to: Public

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

I attempted to shut down an Oneiric i386 system in a unity-2d session
  (with gnome-settings-daemon 3.0.2-1ubuntu2) using the indicator-session
menu. All my application windows, desktop icons, the Unity launcher, and
the top panel disappeared, leaving a completely blank desktop, and I
anticipated that X11 was going to quit at any moment, but then Apport
informed me that gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in
__run_exit_handlers(). The Apport window had no title bar. I tried to
report the bug in that state, but was unable to do so because, after
resizing the window to get a better look at the stack trace, I was
unable to interact with the window's contents (i.e., clicking on buttons
and other UI elements had no effect). Since I was also unable to quit
Apport, I switched to a virtual console and rebooted the machine.

The semantic similarity (both pertaining to functions run when the
application quits) and slight stack trace similarity seems to suggest a
- possible between this bug and bug 788710.
+ possible connection between this bug and bug 788710.

[Bug 788710] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in exit()

2011-06-10 Thread Eliah Kagan
gnome-settings-daemon 3.0.2-1ubuntu2 was released on 7 June 2011, the
same day as gnome-user-share 3.0.0-2ubuntu1 (which fixed bug 788714).
Since then, I have not gotten the crash in this bug, but I have gotten a
crash on logout which reminds me of it. I've reported this as bug
795392; there are more details there.

[Bug 792085] Re: Automatic remount of safely removed drive

2011-06-10 Thread Alex Colorado
Same behaviour for me. Although it only happens after the first time I select
Safely remove drive.
After the first automatic remount, the second time I choose Safely remove
drive the usb external drive does not remount.

It happens for different types of USB drives and USB keys, so it's not
related to a specific external drive.

[Bug 744619] Re: Screen doesn't unlock; stuck on Checking

2011-06-10 Thread Stanislas Couix
There is several instances of gnome-screensaver running when this bug occurs.
When the screen is stuck on checking... you can verify this by logging in in
a different tty (with ctrl+alt+F1 or F2, etc...) and try ::
pstree -p | grep screen

(-p is for having PID needed to kill the process)

Here you can see that you have several instance of gnome-screensaver running.
Now, you just have to kill one of screensaver by :
sudo kill #PID

and go to tty7 with ctrl + alt + F7

Does anybody know why several gnome-screensaver are running ?

[Bug 790023] Re: send to mail recipient option not present on right click of file in 11.04 Unity desktop

2011-06-10 Thread Martin G Miller
I have found a work around on the Ubuntu forums for this problem, but I
prefer to have the bug fixed through the normal update process. I have
not tried this myself yet. However, this may provide a valuable clue as
to the source of the bug.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=10753508postcount=5

The following is a quote from the above link:
Looks like nautilus-sendto is trying to use older versions of libraries.
Running the following fixed it for me:

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libebook-1.2.so.10 /usr/lib/libebook-1.2.so.9

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.14

[Bug 795519] Re: Oneiric disregards network proxy settings

2011-06-10 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
It should work but depends on the application.
There are different places to set the proxy settings:
 * Environment variables in /etc/environment
 * apt settings: Acquire::http::proxy and also https and ftp in
/etc/apt/apt.conf or /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/
 * the dconf keys located at org.gnome.system.proxy
 * and some application seems to be looking at the legacy gconf keys
/system/proxy and /system/http_proxy, but it should have been converted to
dconf.

[Bug 795558] [NEW] Cannot change pointer

2011-06-10 Thread John Winterton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Description:Ubuntu 11.04

With neither compiz, nor metacity am I able to change the pointer from small
white (default) on this theme (Ambiance).
Since I have visual impairment problems, this is getting to be beyond annoying.
I do not choose to use other, high contrast themes because I find them
annoying.

Instead of trying to me-too smart phones, the alternate desktops should
have been better debugged. The default desktop with this release, which
arrived unannounced, is totally unacceptable to me. Trash like that
should be offered as an option, not as default. You are doing your best
to turn yourselves into Microsoft. If this goes on, I will find a
different distribution.

[Bug 794767] Re: preferences can't disable specific screensavers

2011-06-10 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 794862] Re: Rhythmbox should exit on clicking X

2011-06-10 Thread Phillip Susi
I am closing this report because this behavior is intentional, and
therefore, not a bug. Also, I believe there was a setting in the
program preferences to control this behavior so you can turn it off if
you don't like it.

[Bug 795587] Re: Nautilus crashes

2011-06-10 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 558674] Re: Open file dialog malfunctions in lucid

2011-06-10 Thread Pausanias
Shame on you, Ubuntu, for leaving this bug unfixed nine months after it
was (supposedly) fixed upstream. Is this supposed to be a rock-solid LTS
operating system, where something as critical as the file open dialog
doesn't even work properly? Leaving the importance low when there is
the possibility of uploading the wrong file to a work-critical website?
Are you kidding me?

Shame on you. Shame on you. The thing that really puzzles me is that
there must be so many Canonical workers/Ubuntu volunteers packaging
upstream fixes... I mean I must have installed at least 1000 updates to
packages from upstream since October 10th. But a bug fixed upstream that
affects one of the most basic, fundamental UI functions... low priority.
Low priority!

I've been with you guys since the days of Warty. What has happened to
you?
