It appears intermittent in Oneiric as well, I'll try to come up with
steps to reproduce soon.

Re: [Bug 428817] Re: Print Dialog does not allow editing of page parameters

2011-07-03 Thread Swift Arrow
Hey, I think you have to use the Page Setup or Print Setup option from
the File menu. It's an old bug; the page setup in the print dialog doesn't
work, only the one in the file menu does.
Thanks, Love, Peace,

P.S. Please pray for Japan.

 Title:
Print Dialog does not allow editing of page parameters

Status in “gtk+2.0” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

 Bug description:
  Binary package hint: cups-pdf

  In Ubuntu-jaunty amd64,

Cups PDF driver does not allow us to change the paper size,
orientation, or anything. I would like to print my images from GIMP
to pdf, but they are wider than an A4 page, and so I cannot print them
to a whole pdf! I know PDF format can support multiple sizes. And
the options are there, just greyed out.

This is non-application specific. Firefox print dialog behaves the
same. OOo Print dialog doesn't even show the Cups PDF driver.

If those options are there, but are just greyed out, I would consider
this a problem. If the options have not been implemented, perhaps put
up a notice on that tab saying that they don't exist?

I hope whoever fixes this gets paid for it! Thanks for the awesome
  work!

[Bug 804878] Re: weird gedit + launcher behavior

2011-07-03 Thread Erlan Sergaziev
OK, after a dozen of tries I still can't come up with an exact sequence of
actions to reproduce this bug.
However, it's quite frequent and surprises me why nobody's experiencing it.
Here are a few things that greatly increase the chances of hitting this bug:

1) Alt+F2, type gksudo gedit, pin the app and close it.
2) Click on gedit launcher and while it's still running unpin it or just close
it quickly.
3) Do it several times.

If I do above in series of 5-6 I hit the bug almost all the times.

[Bug 805041] [NEW] Intermittent mounts

2011-07-03 Thread janarene
Public bug reported:

I had quite a problem installing 11.04 because I noticed fstab was being
ignored while mounting my internal ntfs shares. Then I noticed that
most of my cifs shares weren't mounted either. After a reboot, my
internal ntfs shares still aren't available, but some of the cifs shares
that were not connected worked, yet others didn't. Which mounts work
after booting is a total crap-shoot. I've been using the same fstab for
years. And yet after another reboot, my ntfs shares are where they
belong, but will be missing if I boot again.

[Bug 805052] [NEW] Gnome system log aplication displays wrong information about log-file in status bar

[Bug 804878] Re: weird gedit + launcher behavior

2011-07-03 Thread Brendan Donegan
Wow - indeed, this does in fact happen after 5-6 tries. Seems like a
race condition. Have you been able to make it happen with any other
applications?

To clarify steps to reproduce:

1.) Run gedit with Alt+F2 'gksu gedit'
2.) Pin gedit to the launcher with 'Right Click Keep in Launcher'
3.) Open gedit with the pinned launcher icon and then close it as fast as
possible then unpin it
4.) Keep repeating 1-3 until you open gedit and no launcher icon appears.

At that point dragging the icon from the Dash when gedit is closed will
not do anything (the icon won't appear)

Good spot! Thanks for raising this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.

[Bug 229187] Re: Evolution mailing list does not render accents correctly

2011-07-03 Thread David Ayers
Hello Martin,

I can confirm that this fixes the main issue! Thanks!

Yet it is possibly incomplete:
If you add the list containing escaped characters to a recipient field and the
expand it explicitly, it is still expanded to the escaped name.

I can't seem to identify the upstream fix but it should be in
libedataserverui/e-name-selector-entry.c popup_activate_inline_expand in
evolution data server.

Cheers,
David

[Bug 678421] Re: Error in ~/.profile halts the X startup

2011-07-03 Thread Egon Elbre
Right forgot about the variables.

After poking around in dash source I found that $HOME/.profile has
been hardcoded. So the change needs be made in the shell to make
.profile safe.

Also I found a way to keep the variables from subshell

### test.sh ###
ERRCODE=0
TEST=
VARS=$(set -e; . $HOME/script.sh 1/dev/null; set) || ERRCODE=$?
if [ $ERRCODE==0 ]
then
eval $VARS
fi
echo ERRCODE = $ERRCODE
echoTEST = $TEST
### script.sh ###
TEST=something
function AddPath { echo err }
##

This also has one nice thing that when the script fails the environment
stays unchanged. Also there may be some variables that shouldn't be
taken from the subshell, but I have no idea which.

Despite suggestion above that it may work with 10.10... Well, it does
not, I just faced this issue. If I read it correctly, the problem is in
libmusicbrainz4c2a and it looks like the same version is used in 10.10
and 11.04, i.e. the functionality is broken through the whole range of

2011-07-03 Thread code banshee
Public bug reported:

this happens when the palette windows width is narrow and therefore

the problem is that the window flickers and the graphics in the palette

[Bug 805114] Re: Switching to next/prev month changes view

2011-07-03 Thread Marcel Stimberg
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 388550 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/388550

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a
duplicate of bug 388550 so it is being marked as such. Bug 388550 has an
upstream bug attached but that one has expired because no one provided
the info that the issue still persists. Could you add a comment to the
upstream bug report stating that the issue still exists with evolution
2.23.2 ? It would be even better if you could test it in the current
development version of Ubuntu (Oneiric), e.g. in a virtual machine,
because the version of evolution is already 3.1.2 there.

** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Confirmed

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 388550
   Can't change default calendar view

[Bug 776781] Re: Nautilus is EXTREMELY SLOW after fresh install

2011-07-03 Thread vdr60
I had a similar situation after the 11.04 update. But starting nautilus
from terminal as root (gksudo nautilus...) I found these messages:

vittorio@IBMT410UB:/usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-2.0$ gksudo nautilus
Initializing nautilus-open-terminal extension
Initializing nautilus-gdu extension
Initializing nautilus-dropbox 0.6.7

I removed the dropbox extension and now nautilus regained its original
speed.

I hope it could be helpful to someone.

[Bug 805042] [NEW] Totem cannot seek file from mounted ISO image

2011-07-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Using Ubuntu 11.04, Totem (the default media player) is not able to seek
(that is, to forward or go back in time) whenever the individual media
file is read from a mounted ISO archive -- the seek bar at the bottom is
locked out.

Whenever individual media files are extracted, using the archive
manager, from such an archive, for example containing .wmv, .avi, and
.flv files, the seek bar at the bottom works as it should. However,
double-clicking on such an ISO, which mounts and puts it on the desktop
by default, while allowing the browsed-through-mounted-ISO opened files
to be played without extraction, which is ideal, renders them completely
unseekable, whatever the type of individual media file.

The ISOs were build using the defaults settings of UltraISO under
Windows, if that matters at all. None of the ISO files were compressed
to start with from my own knowledge. Post #6 over at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11003505 seems to indicate this
is a reproducible issue.

[Bug 774434] Re: mouse pointer disappears in ubuntu 11.04

2011-07-03 Thread Dave Gilbert
I've been doing some tracing and not reaching many conclusions.

I've been tracing both metacity and the program whose cursor disappears (either
soffice or gedit);
I can see a call to gdk_cursor_new_for_display (from the app) when I hit the
button to bring up the menu with a cursor type of 14 (bottom right type) that
shouldn't cause the cursor to disappear - and anyway I see plenty of calls with
14 at other times and it doesn't disappear. I don't see any calls between the
cursor disappearing and it reappearing.

I don't see any calls to XCreatePixmapCursor (usually used to hide the
cursor) at the time the cursor disappears - but it might have happened
earlier and got cached.

Dave

[Bug 563276] Re: No way to tweak multi-finger tap reaction

2011-07-03 Thread lanzen
@ Yury:

Thanks for all your work on this annoying bug/feature... Myself I'd hope
to have a choice!

Anyway, as you may know, a simple script in startup fixes or, better
said, works around, this choiseless gnome choice at least in natty as it
was doing years ago:

synclient TapButton2=2 TapButton3=3

BTW: work in squeeze, too,

I'm still hoping gnome would change their minds and allow an option to
be easily available. As I already said, KDE has it.

[Bug 805204] [NEW] smb:NAS correct, terminal with NAS shows empty NAS

2011-07-03 Thread Bart Houkes
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure whether this is a gvfs problem, maybe already solved or a
duplicate...

Description:Linux Mint 11 Katya
Release:11

Expected: Show my e-mails, stored on a NAS.
Instead: All e-mails gone from last 10 years. Most directories are gone on the
NAS.

After inspection I found;
- terminal shows that most directories on my NAS are gone.
- Nautilus shows all directories on my NAS without issue.
- If I mount the NAS in /etc/fstab.. then all directories are visible again..
pewww.. so i quickly made some backup. However, fstab is only 4MB/sec and
.gvfs is 15MByte/sec. so I prefer gvfs.
- Last program I started with thunderbird on a laptop. The the battery of the
laptop was empty. Now, only the MAIL directory on the NAS is working, all other
directories are dissappeared, but some were read-only and they are gone also.
- Can run .gvfs and /fstab at the same time. then the mount point in fstab
shows all directories and all files... but the .gvfs/drive shows only one
directory (mail) and a few files inside. Probably those were the last files
touched before I got problems with gvfs.

For the moment I go back for /etc/fstab, although it is much slower. NO DATA
IS LOST WITH FSTAB, but .GVFS most data is lost!

[Bug 805041] Re: Intermittent mounts

2011-07-03 Thread janarene
** Description changed:

I had quite a problem installing 11.04 because I noticed fstab was being
ignored while mounting my internal ntfs shares. Then I noticed that
most of my cifs shares weren't mounted either. After a reboot, my
internal ntfs shares still aren't available, but some of the cifs shares
that were not connected worked, yet others didn't. Which mounts work
after booting is a total crap-shoot. I've been using the same fstab for
years. And yet after another reboot, my ntfs shares are where they
belong, but will be missing if I boot again.
+
+ running mount -a after logging in and being su at the terminal seems to
+ solve this problem. Are the order of /etc/init.d misplaced?
+
+ BTW: it should be noted that my home directory, where my mounts are
+ located is encrypted.

[Bug 369016] [NEW] The laptop goes to sleep when on AC power

2011-07-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: powermgmt-base

The laptop (HP Pavilion dv3000) goes to sleep when on AC power. The
power management preferences window has been set so that the computer
should not go to sleep when on AC power.

This prevents me from downloading something large while not using the
computer.

I have recently upgraded (clean install) to Jaunty.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386

[Bug 369016] Re: The laptop goes to sleep when on AC power

2011-07-03 Thread Phillip Susi
Sorry for the long delay in getting to this issue, but 9.04 is no longer
supported and this was never confirmed by anyone else, so are you still
experiencing this problem on a supported release?

[Bug 774434] Re: mouse pointer disappears in ubuntu 11.04

2011-07-03 Thread Dave Gilbert
Some more random bits of data:

1) It doesn't matter which pointer type is in the theme (customised theme,
tried DMZ bloack and white and one of the red ones)
2) If I start an X server from the console (sudo Xorg ) and just start
metacity, the panel, xterm and then gedit then I can't recreate the problem in
the gedit. It still doesn't happen if I start gnome-setting-daemon at that
point from the xterm I started.
3) If I start an X server from the console and run gnome-session the session
that is started does suffer from the bug.
4) Looking at the debug again I think gdk_cursor_new_for_display is being
called with type 68 (gdk_left_ptr) the first time I see it exhibit the bug in
gedit (by clicking on Tools)

[Bug 805298] [NEW] apps on removable media cannot be given execute premission

2011-07-03 Thread nlneilson
Public bug reported:

Right clicking on an app that is on removable media such as USB drive,
sd card, etc and trying to change the execute permission does not work.

If this is an attempt at security there must be a way to over ride it,
otherwise this gives the impression an OS other than Ubuntu should be
used.

[Bug 805298] Re: apps on removable media (FAT formatted) cannot be given execute premission

2011-07-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Confirmed for FAT formatted media. However reformatting the USB drive or
card to a Unix/Linux filesystem will give you all the Unix file mode
support including the execute bit(s).

+ apps on removable media (FAT formatted) cannot be given execute premission

[Bug 670004] Re: GNOME does not load the propatly theme

2011-07-03 Thread Jim J
I'm having this exact same problem.

Logging in with gnome classic or gnome classic no effects starts with an
ambience themed top panel, but that appears to crash and is replaced
with a seeming default gnome theme. However the ambience theme appears
to stay with some, but not all window borders.

Checking the Appearance control panel shows a Custom theme selected.
Selecting Ambience or any other theme does not solve the problem.

The problem looks exactly like the desktop screenshot attached by a
previous poster.

Please fix.
