[Bug 807854] [NEW] applets change position with lock

2011-07-08 Thread avdd
Public bug reported:

I have one panel on the bottom, much like windows. I have applets on
the right side, clock, sysmon etc and they tend to switch places on
session restart and screen resolution resize (external monitor), even
though I have selected "lock to panel". I have to manually unlock,
reposition, and re-lock each applet.

In reporting this bug, I found three marked "invalid" but the comment
indicates it is a duplicate, without a link to the proper bug:

#211148
#345993
#219197

and one bug, #44082 with "fix released" but also "declined for lucid".

So here is a bug report for lucid.

[Bug 782465] Re: Totem Player won't play an internet video, but VLC does

2011-07-08 Thread madbiologist
I downloaded the file to my hard drive (that seems to be a fairly low
bandwidth/slow server) and then it played back immediately and smoothly.

It also seems to be quite a large file for two minutes of H.264 video.
I would have expected about 20MB. Perhaps this is due to the Raw 16-bit
PCM audio?

[Bug 667662] Re: User unable to save attached/embedded images

2011-07-08 Thread Bruce Crowther
But if you really DO have to save a picture (reasonably) quickly:

- View the message source, select all, paste into a text editor, save the file.
- Install xdeview from the repos: I suggest you use Synaptic, because it didn't
install when I used the Software Centre.
- Open the text file with xdeview, it will display a list of images it finds in
the source, list the ones you want decoded and press execute.

[Bug 782465] Re: Totem Player won't play an internet video, but VLC does

2011-07-08 Thread madbiologist
Yeah, I get lots of buffering delays too when I use the command in
comment #3, so I decided to try and play it in Totem again and wait
longer this time. After downloading over half of the video it began to
play smoothly and continued to do so until the end. This is on Ubuntu
10.04 "Lucid Lynx". I haven't tried it on 11.04 "Natty Narwhal".

Does waiting longer for Totem work for you?

[Bug 807797] Re: Please use a dialog instead of libnotify for hard disk failure warnings

2011-07-08 Thread Daniel Manrique
Thanks Dylan, the screenshot really helps clarify the issue and your
suggestion.

I'll mark this as a Wishlist report, as it is a "request to add a new
feature to one of the programs in Ubuntu".

Since gnome-disk-utility is part of the GNOME project, it might help to
speed things along if you have the time to file a bug report upstream
requesting this feature. Find information on how to do that for GNOME
programs here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME

If you do, please report back here the bug number in GNOME so we can add
a task to track it.

Thanks again for your report and I hope this feature gets implemented.

[Bug 667662] Re: User unable to save attached/embedded images

2011-07-08 Thread Bruce Crowther
It is still an issue with Evolution 2.32.2 and Natty (both on 32 and 64
bit machines, and has been an issue for a way long time.

The only way I have found to save them is to copy the source and then
decode them with another app: way too much trouble.

This is an Evolution problem, not an Ubuntu one: it applies across a lot
of different Linux distros.

Yes, I'm using Natty (classic desktop and Unity to) and this still happens. And

not even present in the menu (the one that appears when connecting to a

[Bug 681387] Re: inconsistent behavior in gnome-terminal when changing font size in fullscreen

2011-07-08 Thread Victor Zamanian
I'm on vacation all summer, until August 25, so I am unable to test this
at home where I have Ubuntu 11.04 installed. So unless somebody helps me
test whether this is still an issue, please don't close this as
incomplete until I come back home to test this.

Thank you.

PS: If closing it is necessary for some reason, I understand. I can
report the same bug again if it still is a problem, if I can remember
it. (It's not a bug I run into every day.)

[Bug 807797] Re: Please use a dialog instead of libnotify for hard disk failure warnings

2011-07-08 Thread Dylan McCall
Thanks for the quick comment, roadmr. Apport stuff should be coming in a
second, and just to clarify I am running Ubuntu 11.04 with the stock
Unity session. This bug report is about a general UX issue that should
affect every Ubuntu system equally, not how it is behaving on my system
in particular. Still, could be helfpul :)

I'm also attaching a screenshot of the notification with notification-
daemon (what gnome-disk-utility imagines its notification looks like)
and with notify-osd (what it actually looks like).

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected natty running-unity

** Description changed:

- When gnome-disk-utility detects a failing hard drive, it uses libnotify
- to warn the user. It assumes that the notification will look and behave
- like one of notification-daemon's notifications: a simple, unobtrusive
- popup with a single action button that says Examine. With notify-osd,
- this is not the case. Instead, we get one of notify-osd's fallback alert
- dialogs, and many of these dialogs appear at once (stacked on each
- other). This is not optimal. Instead, gnome-disk-utility should display
- its own dialog box.

[Bug 684538] Re: Opening calendar applet on gnome-panel in Ubuntu 10.10 is slow

2011-07-08 Thread PJSingh5000
Pedro,

I am running Maverick, and I experience up to a 2 second delay clicking
on the Clock applet before the calendar appears.

If the portion of code that responds to the first user click in the
applet is the same in Natty as it was in Maverick, I would expect the
issue is still there.

Is there someone on this bug report who has Natty and can check?

[Bug 807797] Re: Please use a dialog instead of libnotify for hard disk failure warnings

2011-07-08 Thread Daniel Manrique
Hi Dylan,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. It would be helpful to have some more detailed information about your
system. To this end I'd like to ask you to please execute the following
command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal
(press ctrl-alt-t to open a terminal):
apport-collect 807797
When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and
the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Once we have that information I'll be able to better route your report
to the appropriate developers.

Thanks!

[Bug 807791] [NEW] [Oneiric] Nautilus location bar too short - truncated path

2011-07-08 Thread Sam_
Public bug reported:

Enable location bar with ctrl+l or in gconf-editor:
/apps/nautilus/preferences/start_with_location_bar = true

Location bar is too short, path is truncated, even there would be enough space
for it.
This isn't the case in Natty where location bar uses the space available in
full length.
Expected: Don't truncate path, use available space.

Other preferences in this case are list view (files), tree view (side
bar).

Since unsure if it's a theme or Ubuntu specific issue, not yet sended
upstream.

[Bug 675067] Re: Wallpaper goes black when changed

2011-07-08 Thread Chris Jones
I had the issue with 10.10 Maverick right up until I upgraded to 11.04
Natty. Now it seems to have been fixed in Natty.

You should probably close the bug report unless anyone else is having
this issue with Natty.

[Bug 593059] Re: oggconvert: sound distorted in the output file

2011-07-08 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
the problem is still there, no matter what audio quality I select! this
kind of distortion resembles the one that occurs when changing the
sample rate during encoding, but in case of the file I tried the rate
was identical with the original one (44.100), which was FLV format, by
the way. should I upload the 2 files for u?

[Bug 801180] Re: battery indicator is not displayed in oneiric

2011-07-08 Thread Timo Reimerdes
I have oneiric up-to-date (09.07 01:56AM) and I have no visible battery
indicator.

$ apt-cache show gnome-icon-theme |grep Version
Version: 3.0.0-2ubuntu4

$ apt-cache show gnome-power-manager | grep Version
Version: 3.0.2-0ubuntu2

I'd guess this might all be related to libindicator6 vs libindicator3 in
some way.

[Bug 806434] Re: Unable to install 11.04 amd64 on a ThinkPad L520

2011-07-08 Thread Stephen Rees-Carter
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected natty running-unity staging

** Description changed:

  I have a new ThinkPad L520, Intel Core i7-2620M Processor w/ 6GB memory.

I am using the Ubuntu 11.04 amd64 Desktop and Alternate CD's but am
unable to install Ubuntu. When the laptop boots, it gets to the initial
options menu, but as soon as it tries to load into the Live CD it goes
to a blank screen with the cursor flashing in the top corner.

What details do you need from me to help debug this?
I am unable to run commands on the laptop, since I have yet to get an OS
installed successfully on it...

[Bug 806434] Re: Unable to install 11.04 amd64 on a ThinkPad L520

2011-07-08 Thread Stephen Rees-Carter
Massimo Forti,

Thanks for those links about ACPI and APIC, it's still pretty confusing
but I'm happy I have a working system now with noapic turned on.

The funny thing is, that blog post you linked is actually my blog, I
posted the steps I used for any others who might have the same problem
:) I've turned it into a static troubleshooting page: http://stephen
.rees-carter.net/thinkpad-l520-ubuntu-11-04/

Now that I have a working system, what information should I provide? What
commands should I run and post output of?
I know there is a list of "provide these" for Kernel bugs, I'll try and find it
now...

[Bug 587132] Re: no smooth scroll option in mouse preferences for GNOME environment

2011-07-08 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
yeah, it is still an issue... gnome 3 sadly doesn't come with
smoothscroll, as far as I know. but I have to say that the smoothscroll
in Unity 2D dashboard is terrific, that is exactly that what we are
missing in our regular windows! but still I believe, it should be
turnable off.

[Bug 701652] Re: Advancing Playlist negates "Always on Top" window setting

2011-07-08 Thread Ynot
I'm on Oneiric at present, but can confirm this is still an issue
So presumably it's the same for natty as well

Again,
- Setup a playlist of multiple audio files in Totem
- Begin playing first file
- Set Totem window to "Always on Top"
- When playlist advances to next track, Totem window loses "Always on Top" state

[Bug 568907] Re: Disk management maximize problems

2011-07-08 Thread taylorkh
I can add some good news on this bug! I just booted my netbook from a
11.04 Live CD (well on a flash drive actually). The resolution is 1024 x
600 and it is running the Unity interface. When I call up gnome-disk-
utility it is too big to fit on the screen both vertically and
horizontally. HOWEVER, there are tiny scroll indicators on the right and
bottom edges of the window. When I click the mouse on one of these
indicators an up/down or left/right arrow widget which allow me to
scroll the contents of the window. VERY COOL!

So the bug which I reported in 10.04, and which is still present in
10.04, has been resolved in 11.04. Will it be back ported to 10.04
which is an LTS release?

Ken

p.s. I cannot figure out how to run the Live CD in Ubuntu Classic
Desktop mode so I cannot say if Unit fixed the bug or if it was fixed by
Gnome 3.

p.p.s. Not to be stopped by that limitation... I just fired up a VMWare
11.04 virtual machine. It is running Ubuntu Classic Desktop due to
limitations of the VMWare video services. I cannot change the resolution
to 1024 x 600 but I did change it to 800 x 600. The gnome-disk-utility
window it too big for this display. Again the scroll indicators and
scrolling arrow widgets are present. B.I.F. (bug is fixed!)

[Bug 607357] Re: gnome-about-me: cannot cope with incorrect current password under LDAP backend

2011-07-08 Thread Ryan Tandy
Thanks for the response. I fixed the problem locally a long time ago
and mostly forgot about this bug. Looking at my bugs in
bugzilla.gnome.org I don't think I ever filed it upstream either.

I installed a fresh VM of Natty and checked the behaviour. I use
libpam-ldapd these days and when that is active the behaviour is
correct. I also checked libpam-ldap and when that is active the bug is
still present as reported.

I am attaching the patch I have in production that fixes this problem.
It's against gnome-control-center 2.30.1-0ubuntu1 from Lucid. Should I
regenerate the patch against upstream's git master and send it to them?

Possibly unrelated is a problem with highlighting in the "Nokia 2690

[Bug 703697] Re: Rhythmbox fails to recognize all unicode characters

2011-07-08 Thread Sergio B
Sorry this bug is outdated and it wasn't reported correctly.

What happens is this:

The files I mentioned in this bug had two ID3 tag frames (I didn't know
that Mp3 files could have more than one ID3 tag frame) and what happened
with Rhythmbox is that it was reading the first (or last I don't know
for sure) frame it found while other players like Amarok, Winamp and the
music tagger Cowbell were doing the opposite thing.

I used Winamp to remove one of the ID3 Tag Frames and the frame with
the incorrectly encoded characters emerged, then i re-tagged the files
and the incident never happened again (Because now the files only have
on ID3 tag frame).

So this wasn't a bug after all it is just that Rhythmbox doesn't behave
like other players do when reading the ID3 Tag information. Banshee was
also showing this behavior and i thought that Banshee and Rhythmbox
might be sharing the same ID3 tag library or something.

[Bug 800561] Re: No way to add other keymap than english on Live CD

2011-07-08 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
I don't change or touch anything on boot. as described in the test case.
The only thing I do after booting from the CD is to click on 'Try
Ubuntu' at the first ubiquity screen.

Once on the Live Session, there is a keyboard indicator with english
layouts which are the same in the 'Region and Language/Layouts' list,
but this list is immutable and I cannot add a layout that better suit my
keyboard.

Tested and reproduced with today's iso.

** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu Oneiric)
   Status: Incomplete => Triaged

2011-07-08 Thread Benjamin Drung
If someone provides a debdiff for natty and adds the required
information for a SRU, I am happy to sponsor that.

[Bug 678423] Re: Keyboard shortcut Super+p causes entire screen to redraw

2011-07-08 Thread machrider
Still happens for me in maverick unless I use the workaround described
by Shimon Rura above. I'm not upgrading to natty.

[Bug 643360] Re: epiphany crashes on website

2011-07-08 Thread Jim Bauwens
This isn't a issue anymore in Natty Narwhal. The content of the page has
changed though, but similar pages don't trigger a crash anymore.

(No problem for the late response, better late than never :)

Jim
