[Bug 751756] Re: Request: Add an image viewer to Preferred Applications

2011-07-12 Thread Robert Roth
In my opinion, this is fixed in Oneiric, the latest development release, so
this should be set to Fix Released.
Oneiric has the new control center from gnome, and the System Info applet's
Default Applications section (the same as the Preferred Application was on
previous versions) does seem to have a combobox to set the default image
viewer, called Photos, see the screenshot attached.
Is this enough to satisfy your needs, and to close this bu ? If not, what else
would need to be done here?

[Bug 756829] Re: there should be a easy way to reach the configuration GUI in Natty Unity

2011-07-12 Thread Robert Roth
Yes, the gnome-control center is installed by default, and is accessible in
Natty by clicking the power button in the top right corner, and selecting
system settings, the last item from the menu. Note however, that this will
change in Oneiric, the shortcut will be moved to the launcher (the bar from the
left). Is this enough for you to close this bug? If not, what exactly is your
request?

[Bug 806434] Re: Unable to install 11.04 amd64 on a ThinkPad L520

2011-07-12 Thread Stephen Rees-Carter
Unfortunately, my laptop is running a newer version of BIOS than is
available on the Lenovo website...

I've got:
dmi.bios.date: 06/07/2011
dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO
dmi.bios.version: 8GET33WW (1.10)

I'm reluctant to downgrade the BIOS if the version I have isn't
available - in case it breaks the system completely.

[Bug 807099] Re: XF86 keys are not being sensed by key grabber

2011-07-12 Thread Kurt Bruneau
Yes, gnome-control-center now detects XF86 keys. However when the
hotkeys are used, they either open a different application than which
the hotkey was set to, or none at all.

In other words gnome-control-center now senses XF86 keys, but either the
configuration files are not being updated or the system is not reading
the data from the configuration files correctly.

[Bug 809585] [NEW] [Oneiric] gnome-keybinding-properties don't accept key adjustment

2011-07-12 Thread Sam_
Public bug reported:

Actually the issue is that media keys don't work anymore, they did after
upgrade to Oneiric, unfortunately I didn't monitor since when exactly, possibly
since two weeks.
Then I've tried in gnome-control-center - keyboard - shortcuts - sound + media,
to reread the input new by pressing low volume and up volume keys again, but
pressing the key isn't recognized, nothing happens. Although the description of
the key is correct.

Tried some debugging procedures advised there and attach summary in text file.
Killing gnome-settings-daemon and other procedures didn't change anything.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting
Therefore unsure which package to assign to and which one did change behaviour
of media keys. There haven't been any changes made by user since testing
Oneiric.

[Bug 809578] [NEW] Displays setting confirmation grows without bounds

2011-07-12 Thread Barry Warsaw
Public bug reported:

System settings -> Displays. Make a change, e.g. turn off mirror
displays on a dual headed machine. Click Apply. The dialog for "Keep
this configuration" grows enormously every second because the font keeps
getting bigger and bigger. Very weird and very challenging to actually
keep a display change!

Thanks, I found it there. While I wouldn't say the old location was a model
of discoverability, this is really worse unfortunately. At least it makes
sense to look for keyboard options under the Keyboard settings. ;)

[Bug 653746] Re: Empathy using wrong English dictionary

2011-07-12 Thread Dan Crews
I'm having the same issue using:

Ubuntu 11.04
Empathy 2.34.0

The problem seems to be related to the issue that the language is
"English" and "English (United States)" is simply a translation of
"English". Could it be that Empathy only supports Language dictionaries
and not translation dictionaries?

[Bug 692042] Re: A colon in a podcast Title causes mkdir error

2011-07-12 Thread Ian Eave
Thanks for the response.
I have tested again.
Using Rhythmbox v0.13.3 on Ubuntu v11.04 (Natty) with all updates installed at
the date/time of this comment. System ASUS EEE PC 900. The save directory is
set to a location on a CIFS-mounted NAS (Lime Technology UnRaid) running Samba.

When attempting to download the latest podcast from Makezine
(http://blog.makezine.com/feed/rss) the following message was given:

"Unable to create the download directory for
file:///mnt/bigtower.media/Audio/PodCasts/MAKE%20Magazine_%20MAKE%20Podcast/TEST/Make:%20Online
/TYH-plywood-boat.m4v: Error creating directory: Not a directory"

Note the illegal character ":" in the attempted mkdir. The ":" is used
by the publisher of the blog in the title of the blog and - presumably -
Rhythmbox uses the title as the name of the dir without removing illegal
chars.

When the save directory is on the local machine, the download works OK.
The bug only occurs when trying to save on the NAS which is cifs
mounted. Presumably that's because ":" is a reserved char in windows but
not in unix.

Best regards.

[Bug 783130] Re: Missing users on Ubuntu login screen

apport information

** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit.
Quite often when I switch on my computer and boot Ubuntu, when it gets to the
login screen, only my username appears.
There are 3 user accounts on this computer and my account was the first one
created during Ubuntu installation.
I've seen it happen many times - only my username appears on the list, but
when I reboot, the next time the login screen appears, it then shows all 3
users.
On my old computer when I had Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit, I never had this problem
and I would always see the 3 user accounts on the login screen list.

[Bug 809518] [NEW] Message about unsupported disc type needs to be improved

2011-07-12 Thread Kip Warner
Public bug reported:

I am using Brasero 2.32.0-0ubuntu2 on amd64 hardware. When I attempted
to burn an ISO to an optical disc not supported by my drive, it gave the
following error message in the log:

...
BraseroGrowisofs stdout: Executing 'builtin_dd
if=/home/kip/Desktop/Image.iso of=/dev/sr0 obs=32k seek=0'
BraseroGrowisofs called brasero_job_set_dangerous
BraseroGrowisofs stderr: :-[ READ DVD STRUCTURE #10h failed with
SK=0h/ASC=00h/ACQ=03h]: Input/output error
...

This is not so useful to most users. It took me a long time to figure
out what the problem was. I was using a DVD-R DL type disc, but my drive
does not support that. See below in the "Features" section for the
supported types.

$ hwinfo --cdrom

[Bug 809500] [NEW] terminal is not remembering my preference

2011-07-12 Thread Kamus
Public bug reported:

I use to not show the menu bar in my session so that I always unset this
option to off, however now in Oneiric seems like is not saving this
preference (I haven't tried with other options yet) so in resume when
you open a new session gnome-terminal shows me the menu bar again.

steps to reproduce
1 - Open gnome-terminal
2- unset Display the menu bar
3- close gnome-terminal
4- Open again gnome-terminal and you will see the menu bar displayed (Expected
behaviour is not displayed)

[Bug 488513] Re: Headphone output ear-bleedingly loud on Karmic

2011-07-12 Thread Rockwalrus
Things are better, but not all fixed in Natty. The problem with only
part of the volume slider being usable is fixed. Pulseaudio also
doesn't touch the headphones audio level anymore when the connector is
set to "Analog Speakers" in the Sound Preferences, so that irritation is
gone as well.

However, I still have to set the headphone mixer control in xfce4-mixer,
since Sound Preferences does not allow me to change that slider, and it
defaults to ear-bleedingly loud. If I set the connector to either of
the other settings (which doesn't appear to do anything useful),
Pulseaudio sees the need to set the headphones back up to maximum
volume.

Re: [Bug 790885] Re: This is content related to bugs in my pc while i upgraded ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04

2011-07-12 Thread Pushpendra Kumar
Actually the graphics of my pc is not working. Many times i have to
run something like this $ gtk-window-decorator --replace becaus system
window's are disappearing many times as i grab them with mouse or
starting any full screen application like vlc or games.
And i feel system reliability is chalanged because of some changes
like in case Notification Area Icon.
I think it will be better after some time.
Thanx for you all contributing Open Source!

Hello Pedro,

Thanks for dropping in on this report.

I'm actually still using 10.10 but I can report that Media Player now
plays the file.

I'd mark the bug as solved, however incidentally, but I cannot find a
way to do this.

Cheers!

[Bug 316835] Re: brasero location box does not work

2011-07-12 Thread David Friedman
Maybe it would be alright to just let that go as it is listed as being of
"low" importance.

I tried to be precise in my description of the problem,
and Mr. Jan Wagner was able to understand what
I was saying.

I'd prefer to just keep both of my laptops as single boot systems.

Under launchpad it looks like it sixty days it'll just expire
automatically.
