[Bug 812394] Re: Disable suspend/hibernate options when they are not supported

2011-07-18 Thread Martin Pitt
Indeed, I see absolutely no reason to disable suspend on unknown
machines. It works on the vast majority of hardware out there, and if it
doesn't, then you'll learn to "just don't do that" on that particular
machine. But it seems wrong to arbitrarily and unnecessarily break such
an important functionality.

Disabling it on known-broken machines indeed seems to be a better way to
go, although it'd be even better to actually fix it on these machines :)
For many older machines we can apply quirks in pm-utils.

Such a blacklist would be most suitable to maintain in pm-utils, from
where upower will pick it up through pm-is-supported reporting False for
the respective operation (suspend/hibernate).

[Bug 711429] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2011-07-18 Thread steubens
i figured out a way to reproduce this crash! :D (and the crash you still
get with the bodge)

it happens when you select one of the files you just deleted, before
they've left the view. to help do this i copied 30-40 mp3 albums into a
separate folder, entered that folder, then picked the top 8 or so; held
shift and pressed delete

immediately after hitting enter to dismiss the warning dialogue i hit
the down arrow key a bunch of times; if you succeed the focus will
change to one of the files in the selection, with the wrong icon, and it
will immediately crash thereafter

turns out this is what i was doing every time i triggered the crash ;]

[Bug 769488] Re: file-roller problems when extracting rar files within windows-1256 encoded arabic files

2011-07-18 Thread wijit
Hi,
This may help identification of the problem. My problem is that file-roller on
DELL cannot display Windows based CTL (Windows-874) filenames of files that
reside in an archive correctly. unrar works fine in terminal on both computers.
Also file-roller on ACER shows all filenames inside an archive correctly. Both
computers run on and take most use of Lucid where their configurations are
controlled to be the same as much as possible. Followings are known differences
that a non-technical like me can analyse.
1. While OS version is the same but a 64bit version was installed on DELL while
a 32bit was on ACER. All software on both computers are updated to the latest
patches.
2. Apart from Ubuntu, there is a partition of Windows XP on ACER but DELL
relies purely on Ubuntu.
3. Both computers run the same version of file-roller.
4. ACER has unrar 1:3.9.3-1 (non-free) installed while DELL has unrar-free
1:0.0.1+cvs20071127-1 installed but was already removed and replaced by the
same version as ACER.
5. Both computers have msttcorefonts installed.
Please tell me how to get it if you want more technical information.
I sent this issue to the bugmaster of bugzilla.gnome.org but they suggested me
to find the bug fixs on the website. There is one bug report, Bug 629202, seems
to be similar to mine but providing no solution except suggestion to send the
bug to Launchpad. That's why I'm here.
Thanks for attention.
Yours
Wijit.

[Bug 809903] [NEW] Power Management settings - 2nd hard drive never powers down

2011-07-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu's Power Management does not power off the hard drive unless you
edit a file manually.

Having cleanly installed Ubuntu on my old (desktop) computer for a
friend, the 2nd hard drive never powers off - despite going into the
Power Management settings and ticking the option "Spin down hard disks
when possible". There are 2 actual hard drives in the case; there's no
confusion with partitions appearing as separate hard drives. One hard
drive is IDE and the other is SATA.

The only way I could get the 2nd hard drive to switch off was to edit
/etc/hdparm.conf and uncomment (remove the hash "#") from the line in
that file which has the number 24 at the end (only one line had the
number 24 at the end of it). Making that change in /etc/hdparm.conf -
then saving that file and rebooting - definitely worked as when you
access the 2nd drive after a few minutes, you hear it power on - you can
clearly hear the sound of it powering on and then you can see the files
on that drive. It also powers off again if left idle - which proves
changing that file works, but the power saving option GUI does not work.

I had previously reported this bug and I remember being told there was
an update to one of the files (hdparm.conf I think?), but that bug
report was closed. Please reconsider this bug report as it pertains to
the Power Management setting GUI not powering off the hard drive(s) when
the user ticks the box "Spin down hard disks when possible".

[Bug 812595] [NEW] gtk-key-theme-name="Emacs" doesn't work

Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu < Oneiric, I've always set my key theme to Emacs, using this
command:

gconftool-2 -s /desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_key_theme -t string Emacs

This still works on a machine I upgraded from Natty to Oneiric, but on a
fresh Oneiric install, it no longer works. Is there a new way of
setting the key theme? Is there something broken in Oneiric that's
prevent this from working?

[Bug 800107] Re: (nautilus:13848): Unique-DBus-WARNING **: Error while sending message: Did not receive a reply.

2011-07-18 Thread JohnC
I am getting these same errors after a recent update to Natty.

Example of pairs of messages now getting added to syslog every few
seconds:-

kernel: [ 2824.271459] Valid eCryptfs headers not found in file header
region or xattr region

AND

kernel: [ 2123.273844] Either the lower file is not in a valid eCryptfs
format, or the key could not be retrieved. Plaintext passthrough mode is
not enabled; returning -EIO

Also Ubuntu One Control Panel reports:-

File Sync error. (org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not
receive a reply (timeout by message bus))"

System monitor also shows that the ubuntuone-syncdaemon cancels and
restarts every few seconds with a new ID.

I have reported this through the UbuntuOne website as I'm not sure
whether UbuntuOne is affecting Nautilus or Nautilus is affecting

[Bug 801763] Re: Typing causes cursor to stick

2011-07-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Seems logical to keep the 0.5s decrease patch as a workaround until the
proper underlying patches are identified.

I suppose they'll eventually bubble up in future releases of things, so
you could leave the workaround in place for oneiric with plan to test
reverting it in oneiric+1 to see if it's still needed.

[Bug 801763] [NEW] Typing causes cursor to stick

2011-07-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Steps to reproduce:

1.) Type a few key strokes.
2.) Try to move the cursor using the touchpad.

Expected result:

Cursor moves immediately

Actual result:

Cursor sticks for several seconds

This could very well be strongly linked to the hardware used (Samsung
N310, using the touchpad, not a mouse), so let's see if anyone else can
reproduce.

[Bug 810907] Re: User Accounts applet is too basic and needs advanced settings

2011-07-18 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
1. Group management and groups membership
A newly created user is only member of its own group
$ id test02
uid=1003(test02) gid=1003(test02) groups=1003(test02)

John, a not so powerful adminof his home sytem, wants to access his
modem or fax for example? Or any other devices based on group
membership.

John wants to create a shared directory on his system for Photos, Videos
and Musics and only members of group 'personalmedia' have write access
to it. He needs to be able to create the group in the first place.

2. Support for profile ?
There is a profile 'administrator' which actually adds the user to a useless
group 'admin'. The legacy admin account being 'adm'
How does the sysadmin adds custom profiles ?

3. Home directory
John wants to store additional accounts on an additional disc mounted on
/data/users. So he wants users already created to stay on /home and new users
created on /data/users

4. Shell
By default the shell is /bin/dash, John really likes his customized prompt,
command history and command completion. So he wants bash

5. User Id
John used dejadup to restore home directories from his broken home desktop to a
shiny new system and he wants to recreate the users with to match with his
poor broken system.
He has a powerful graphical one-click solution to restore nearly everything and
must recreate all the users from the command line. :(

That's just a few examples that comes to mind, the most important being
the lack of group management.

[Bug 812530] [NEW] Unity Launcher does not work over Remote Desktop Viewer

2011-07-18 Thread dep
Public bug reported:

When viewing one Ubuntu 11.04 desktop from another computer with Ubuntu
11.04 using Vinagre, the Unity launcher does not appear on mouseover
(the default behavior is to withdraw the launcher into the left side of
the screen when a window is blocking the space it occupies when open).
The launcher works well when operated locally, so there seems to be
something wrong with the way Vinagre sends the mouse position: the
launcher begins to appear when the mouse moves to the left-hand side,
but gets stuck in the beginning of the fade-in.

[Bug 60448] Re: .xsession_errors file grows out of control & saturates disk space

2011-07-18 Thread UnrealMiniMe
I just came across this bug report after finally tracking down my own
disk space issues to .xsession-errors.old. The file had grown to over
13 GB!

Obviously, most users are not affected by this bug, so it seems to be
triggered by excessive error reporting somewhere else. In my case, the
most common error is this, repeated over and over and over:

(gnome-power-manager:2073): Gtk-WARNING **: A floating object was finalized.
This means that someone
called g_object_unref() on an object that had only a floating
reference; the initial floating reference is not owned by anyone
and must be removed with g_object_ref_sink().

I understand that's not really helpful for tracking down the source of
the error, but the redundancy of the errors got me thinking. At least
on my system (10.10, 64-bit), old errors are occasionally moved from
.xsession-errors to .xsession-errors.old, and the latter file is the one
that soaks up all the disk space. Others have suggested modifying the
code to prune the logs occasionally. That should eliminate the problem
entirely, but it hasn't been done. If there's a reason that cannot be
done, maybe the error redundancy could be exploited using compression?

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 649809 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/649809

(not a vm) On my old laptop, the same thing was happening, so I went
through and uninstalled gnome and unity, and re-installed gnome 2 in
xfce the hard way through the terminal. I had to resolve all of the
dependencies myself, and it took some time, but now everything is fine.
I did have to reset the gnome-panel settings, though.

[Bug 490113] Energy for your hot night

2011-07-18 Thread Maxime Ritter
>>>   www.bestpharmaonline.com.ua

- There is no reason to feel depressed if you, like so many other men today,
have hit the rough spot of your sexual life when you cannot seem to be
performing as well as you used to do. Your agitation and frustration are easily
understood, and still you should know that with the modern development of
worldwide pharmacological industries it is but natural that there is bound to
be a solution for your own needs when it comes down to solving your erectile
dysfunction problems.

- We suggest you getting erectile dysfunction drugs from our online drugstore
cheaply, easily and without much to-do. You will always be taken care of and
attended to with extreme care, and you will have the possibility of choosing
from a wide range of erectile dysfunction products to find a solution that will
best suit your particular needs.

- The whole world puts great trust in those famous diamond shaped pills, and
if you are not an exception we would like to revise some basic points that
speak in favor of putting your male health in the hands of those magical
tablets.
Firstly, there is no need for regular therapy those blue pills have to be
taken directly before the planned sexual contact, and extra convenience shines
through when you come to realize that the pills will not start working unless
sufficient sexual stimulation is provided.

- Secondly, this erectile dysfunction solution is known for its extremely low
adverse side effects profile, which makes it available for all age groups of
patients. Besides, it really does not matter how old you are when it goes about
taking erectile dysfunction pills just make sure that you do not overdose,
and they will work for you at their best!

- Finally, those fabulous pills do not only provide you with stable erection
that can be maintained for as long as you need it they also help you to
achieve unheard sensitivity during the sexual act as well as make your genitals
look much more sizey!

- Think of all those benefits of taking erectile dysfunction pills and the
effect you can produce on your loved one and do not hesitate to make your
order and / or refills right away!

[Bug 812433] Re: evolution does not receive or send mail

2011-07-18 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.
There is also a vibrant support community available at
http://askubuntu.com and you might consider asking your question there.
