[Bug 395299] Re: gdm 2.26 has no graphical configuration tool

2011-07-30 Thread Mark W
Don't bother.. Ubuntu's primary desktop teams current focus apparently
does not include users smarter than a catfish. If you have an IQ of
higher than 5, this desktop is not designed for you. (It's not just
Ubuntu at fault here, Gnome team has had a role in this dumbing down
behaviour too, even prior to 3.0 & Shell)

Sebastian Bacher: Nothing to do specifically with this bug per se, but
must you ALWAYS be a total arrogant douche-bag towards users who have
genuine concerns and problems? Lighten up and learn to relate to users!
I've been watching your responses over the past few years, and I
seriously am beginning to suspect you are on Microsoft's payroll, on a
hell-bent mission to destroy Linux.

Me? Oh yeah, I can certainly be a douche too sometimes.. But I'm not one
with any authority or influence to screw Ubuntu up.

I seriously hope Mr Bacher isn't also on Canonical's payroll.. If so..
no wonder things have gotten so crap.

2011-07-30 Thread Sam_
Reproducable.
Run gdb backtrace against totem.
Totem window darkens, ctrl+c in terminal doesn't help. Totem needs to be killed.
Terminal needs to be killed also.
Then unity-window-decorator crashes.
Run alt+f2 unity --replace, then compiz crashes.

then exits.

[Bug 818546] [NEW] Full screen terminals don't fit on larger monitors

2011-07-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When you press CTRL+ALT+F1 to F6 in order to use the full screen text
terminals, the text does not fit properly on larger "widescreen"
monitors. My monitor is a widescreen 24" Asus monitor and the full
screen terminals have small text and it stays within a "square"
surrounded by lots of unused black space.

I use DOSBox version 0.74 in full screen and the characters fit
perfectly on the same 24" monitor.

This is considered a "bug" after being posted on the Ubuntu Brainstorm site:
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/28015/

[Bug 818642] [NEW] response to typing is very slow with code highlight with some files

2011-07-30 Thread matteo sisti sette
Public bug reported:

When editing files with code highlight mode set to "php" (maybe the same
happens with other modes too), gedit sometimes is ridiculously slow to
respond to typing. That is, when you type, the text you type appears
with a very noticeably (and annoying) delay.

This seems to happen with some particular files more than others, so I
attach one particular file with which I experience the issue. I guess
the issue is triggered by some syntax pattern. I have some much bigger
files that don't cause any trouble when editing them, so it is not just
a matter of file size.

It is reasonable to expect that code highlighting increases cpu consumption,
but definitely not that much.
I've used a few other editors with code highlight and NEVER seen one become so
slow even with files a lot bigger than this

And even if computing the highlight had a critical cost, then more
priority should be given to typing response than to computing the
highlights, e.g. by only recomputing highlighting when the keyboard is
idle for a given fraction of a second or (if this doesn't happen) every
n-th character and not for every single character, etc

I'm not quite sure if i would want to use it, but I would consider that
if the
option is there, it should either work, or be removed.

I will keep testing to see if the dwell-click will work randomly in

[Bug 553646] Re: Waking from hibernate unexpectedly prompts for password

2011-07-30 Thread isoma
** Description changed:

This system is configured, under "Login Screen Settings", to log in
automatically as me (the sole user on this computer). If the system is
booted cleanly no password is required. So I'm imagining this bugreport
from the perspective of someone who never needs to enter a password and
may not know what to type.

One day they hibernate or suspend their computer, and on returning to it
- they resume the password.
+ they resume the machine.

Expected behaviour here: (after a pause) their desktop appears
Actual behaviour here: they see a prompt to unlock their session

I couldn't find an existing report of these symptoms but I would argue
given the story above that this behaviour is overly surprising and
should be seen as a bug.

[Bug 818602] [NEW] "Printers" in Off-Button menu opens GNOME print tool and not system-config-printer

2011-07-30 Thread Till Kamppeter
Public bug reported:

If I click the Off-Button in the upper panel on the right I get a menu
for logging out, system settings, ... Now It also contains a "Printers"
entry, intended to manage the printers. Now with the gnome-control-
center opening system-config-printer when clicking on the printer icon
this menu entry should also open system-config-printer, to be
consistent.

Re: [Bug 814849] Re: Brasero doesn't ask for a blank disc

2011-07-30 Thread Roberto González Correa
P.S.: I'm sorry... I forgot a little detail: both times, when the creation
of the Brasero log was finished, I got the following message from the
terminal (in Spanish):

Violación de segmento.

I think this can be translated to English as 'segment violation'.

 I hope this helps.

Re: [Bug 814849] Re: Brasero doesn't ask for a blank disc

2011-07-30 Thread Roberto González Correa
Pedro:

I performed the action twice, creating 2 files. The first time, I put the
disc on the tray after calling Brasero. The second, I put the disc on the
tray before. I don't know if this makes any difference, but when I compared
both files they didn't look very similar.

I attach both files in this e-mail.

Regards.

[Bug 818564] [NEW] Nautilus does not remember the unmaximized WIDTH of window

2011-07-30 Thread Eric Morgan
Public bug reported:

Maximize a nautilus window then quit. When you relaunch, it open
maximized, which is fine because you can restore the window to it's
unmaximized size. However it restores to the correct unmaximized height
but the MAXIMIZED width. You can also duplicate this by right clicking
the maximize button, then quitting and relaunching. The window opens in
windowed mode but with the maximum width. Right clicking the restore
button does not reduce the width to normal size.

[Bug 227808] Re: file permissions destroyed by vim/gvfs/fuse

2011-07-30 Thread Scott Deagan
I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 and this problem still exists. Steps to
reproduce:

1. Open Nautilus
2. Press + L.
3. In the address bar, enter: sftp://yourserver:/path/to/file
4. Right-click on a text file and open it with GEdit (select 'Open with
TextEdit').
5. Make a change to the file.
6. Save the file.
7. ssh yourserver
8. cd /path/to/file
9. ls -l

The owner of the file is changed to the username you logged in as in
step 3, and the permissions are 700.

I hope this bug is fixed soon as it completely ruins a really cool way
of working in Linux.

[Bug 818511] [NEW] Renaming by slow doubble click doesnt work

2011-07-30 Thread Tomas Gouzi
Public bug reported:

To rename a file you need use RMB.. usual and logic way was always
click-click than it can be renamed.. Anybody who ever use F.Windows know
that simple thing.

If you use DRAG&DROP and you realize you don't want it, than you pres
ESC and dra&drop where canceled. in UBUNTU it doesnt work. Simply you
must finish it.

previously i have used 280.11 but got (like few other users) troubles to
stop synaptic & gnome-terminal processes: had to pkill them, thats why
280.04 is used now.
