[Bug 854404] [NEW] HP Envy 14 doesn't suspend by closing lid
Public bug reported: Laptop doesn't suspend by closing lid. Choosing Suspend from the settings menu (the thing in upper-right corner) does work and opening lid does wake the machine up if suspended this way. [Bug 854329] Re: race condition on shutdown with more than one DM installed
Yeah, don't use that script. $UPSTART_EVENTS is the variable containing the list of events that triggered the *start* of the job; so anything that's 'start on [...] runlevel [...]' will always match and then we have the same race condition all over again. Here's an alternative that DTRT. post-stop script if [ "$UPSTART_STOP_EVENTS" = runlevel ]; then initctl emit desktop-shutdown fi end script Tested out here with gdm and lightdm installed; the dots-over-text error goes away with this change. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/854329 Title: race condition on shutdown with more than one DM installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/854329/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 854329] Re: race condition on shutdown with more than one DM installed
Prospective patch for this issue in gdm/lightdm upstart jobs: post-stop script case $UPSTART_EVENTS in *runlevel*) initctl emit desktop-shutdown ;; esac end script And after more thought, I see we only need a one-way breaks: from plymouth to the old versions of the DM packages, when plymouth drops the check for the 'stopped $dm' events. I tried sharing a single GnomeRRScreen instance between plugins, and it shaves a fair bit of time off (it certainly gets rid of the 1 second from the power/color plugins. [Bug 854124] [NEW] libreoffice-writer not default file handler for .doc files
Public bug reported: In 11.10, gedit is the default file handler for .doc files. I expected the default handler to be libreoffice-writer, which is the default handler for .docx and other filetypes used by MS Office. gedit is pretty bad at opening .doc files (at least the ones I've tried). The effect on the user is that double-clicking a doc-file fails to display the file. To reproduce: * Double-click any .doc file Alternatively: In a terminal, 'touch foo.doc && touch foo.docx' Double-click each foo* file; foo.doc opens in gedit and foo.docs opens in LibreOffice. I believe this is a regression from 11.04; I first noticed it after upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10 beta 1.
