[Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups

2011-09-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

- WORKAROUND:
+ Why this bug is not logged under Unity:
+ The root cause of this bug is the function gdk_screen_get_primary_monitor.
Unfortunately it is designed in a way such that it returns the same value 0 if
the primary monitor is the first monitor, or if there is no primary monitor set
at all. And quite often monitor zero is in fact the one on the right.
+
+ In Ubuntu 11.10 this is resolved by being able to drag the little panel
+ bar in your display settings to the desired screen. This is a nice
+ graphical way of telling the system what you primary monitor is.
+
+ WORKAROUND FOR 11.04:
+
+ There are two ways to configure the primary monitor in Ubuntu 11.04...

Permanent workaround (requires logging back in again):
Edit ~/.config/monitors.xml, find the monitor you want the launcher to
display on and change:
- no
+ no
  to:
  yes
Now log out and log in again.

  Temporary workaround (no logout required):
  Open a Terminal window and...
  1. Run "xrandr" to find the NAME of the output you would like to make primary.
  2. Run: xrandr --output NAME --primary && nohup unity --replace &
-

  ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:

  Binary package hint: unity

In my particular configuration I have an external monitor hooked up to
my laptop on the left of the laptop display. The unity bar is ending up
on the laptop display though making it in the middle of the two
  monitors.

This makes it quite difficult to activate the bar with a full screen
application open on the laptop (hitting the upper left pixel of that
  monitor without going over).

I think it would make more sense to make it configurable which monitor
the bar ends up on, or at least look at the orientation of the monitors
when determining where to put the bar.

[Bug 808229] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_action_group_get_action()

2011-09-21 Thread grubu
No, it seems that it is not reproducible, when changing the nautilus
configuration-settings right now all marked or unmarked settings
just immediately take place and also hitting the close window does
not seem to produce a crash anymore. For some further information
I want to mention that the nautilus-open-terminal extension
has been installed a few hours ago.

[Bug 777953] Re: Google Contacts don't work in Evolution: "Cannot authenticate user: Invalid query"

2011-09-21 Thread Webmaster
This is not a Duplicate of the other bug which stops the import of data
from google-contacts when a user defined field is emptythis is not
the case here as described above

The case here is that the login fails with the error message:

Detailed error message: Cannot authenticate user: Invalid query

We know that the login password is OK because if you enter an incorrect
password it simply does not even try to get data from the google-
contacts but when the password is correct the above message appears and
no contacts at all are imported!

But check if the [ALT] key is bounded as shortcut for another action.

[Bug 856016] [NEW] Brasero crashes during CD-copy-process

2011-09-21 Thread Steff
Public bug reported:

When copying a CD or DVD using the same device for source and burning brasero
crashes immediately after it has copied the disc to a temp-directory and opened
the tray.
There is no error message displayed. Brasero simply disappeares leaving
"Speicherzugriffsfehler" on the command line.

The following line can be found in the Syslog:
Sep 22 02:09:34 stefan-laptop kernel: [90544.007291] brasero[16832]: segfault
at 0 ip 08bf179a sp bfe8aa2c error 4 in libc-2.13.so[8b7e000+15a000]

Ubuntu 11.04
2.32.1-0ubuntu2

Exactly the same happens at another PC.

Relation to other bugs:
At first glance this bug seems to be the same as #757407 or #102372
But in contrast to #102372 the crash happens immediately after the tray is
opened, earlier as in #102372
The errors found in the logs differ from both, #757407 and #102372.

rectangle when the Dash is open. The importance of this bug should be
raised a bit.

[Bug 852184] Re: Typeahead search entry not persistent while receiving input in Icon View

2011-09-21 Thread Michael Moorman
** Description changed:

- When in a folder with multiple files, you normally can select a file by
- name by typing the name of the file. A small box appears below the
- nautilus window containing the search text.
+ While in Icon View, the search entry typeahead that appears when you
+ begin typing disappears very quickly, irrespective of the user's typing.
+ It lasts less than a second, not long enough to type more than two
+ characters, and is difficult to bring back up.

- In the nautilus currently in 11.10b1, the search box disappears while I
- am typing. It doesn't seem to be a focus issue because nautilus is
- focused the whole time. It varies betweend disappearing almost
- instantly, or after a second, but in either case it is very rapid, too
- rapid to type a full filename.
+ This problem only occurs in Icon View and Compact View.
+
+ How to reproduce:
+
+ 1. Open nautilus.
+ 2. Enter Icon view in an empty folder
+ 3. Create three folders, LongName1, LongName2, LongName3.
+ 4. Make sure that the focus is on Nautilus.
+ 5. Begin typing LongName3.
+
+ What is expected: The helpful search entry will pop up, allowing you to
+ type the name of LongName3, and selecting it for you.
+
+ What actually happens: The search entry shows up, highlights LongName1
+ as it is first in the dictionary order, then disappears around the
+ letter 'n', and you are forced to try to retype LongName3.
+
+ After reading the source somewhat in Nautilus to better understand the
+ problem, I rewrote this bug and provided what I suppose is a more
+ readable summary.

[Bug 779639] Re: gnome screensaver activation is hindered by unobscure routine

2011-09-21 Thread Robert Lange
Truth be told, I never understood what Shih-Yuan Lee's patch did or how
it addressed this bug. My patch is much simpler, but it only addresses
a symptom of the bug (the unobscure routine deactivating the
screensaver) rather than the underlying bug (why is the
obscure/unobscure routine called at every invocation of the
screensaver?). Of course, a patch of a particularly annoying symptom is
still better than no patch for the underlying cause...

To apply the patch, you must use the Debian package building system to
rebuild the gnome-screensaver package. It's very easy to apply if you
are familiar with that system, but it's beyond the scope of this bug
tracker to provide directions.

[Bug 855922] [NEW] Nautilus seg-faults

2011-09-21 Thread Corbin
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.10 Oniric

Today or yesterday, nautilus had an update. This bug may be related to a
change in that update.

Nautilus crashed. I restarted it with a terminal, so I could read it's
activity. After around 5 minutes, it crashed again. In the terminal, it
says that it had a segmentation fault. I copied the text from the
terminal, and am posting it as 'seg-fault.txt'

[Bug 855917] [NEW] empathy does not recognize settings from "online accounts"

2011-09-21 Thread Cyryl Plotnicki-Chudyk
Public bug reported:

There is "online accounts" in 11.10 under the user menu, top right part of the

I've added my google apps account there, it got recognized, I got 'chat' set to

And then nothing; if I click on the envelope icon and then 'chat' there is no
account set up there.

[Bug 620693] Re: Screen not locked when turned off

2011-09-21 Thread Michael Terry
This is not needed for 10.10 or 11.04, as those have redefined the
timeout/sleep_display_ac key to be a timeout *after* the screensaver
determines the system is idle. So you can't hit this bug anymore, as
the screen will never blank when the system isn't idle.

This is also not needed for 11.10, as GNOME 3 has completely changed the
keys used. The lock/blank settings seem to work from my testing. Thus,
I'll mark this Fix Released.

For the 10.04 SRU, the justification is that this is a bit of a security
concern: users could set their system up to lock after blanking and
expect that when the screen goes blank, they can safely walk away.

To test:

1) System > Preferences > Power Management
-Put display to sleep when inactive for [1 min]
2) System > Preferences > Screensaver
-Regard the computer as idle after [5 min]
3) gconftool-2 -t bool -s /apps/gnome-power-manager/lock/blank_screen true
4) Wait for screen to blank after 1m
5) Wiggle mouse, note that screen was not locked like step #3 would have you
believe

[Bug 779639] Re: gnome screensaver activation is hindered by unobscure routine

2011-09-21 Thread Alex Steve Gimenez
I've recently came across this problem too. I was installing some Unity
quicklists using Confity 1.6 and then the problem started. Maybe God
knows if Confity is the cause of my problems. Also (and please forgive
me for asking), how do I apply this patch? I tried the repo posted above
(posted by Shih-Yuan Lee) but that did not work for me. Thanks in
advance!

[Bug 851520] Re: Screensaver activates at the wrong times in Oneiric

2011-09-21 Thread Jonathan Meek
Yay for more updates: Broke my Oneiric install last night, decided to
axe all my settings files (except Chromium, Firefox, Banshee and my
games) and reinstall Oneiric. I updated everything last night and
suspended for the night, and tested idling today, screen cut off at ten
minutes. (settings are all to do something at the half hour mark at the
earliest, as before.)

[Bug 855862] [NEW] File selection: direction doesn't select file in next row

2011-09-21 Thread Wish!!!
Public bug reported:

In Nautilus, when we traverse to the end of a row of files, earlier it
used to continue to the first file of next row. However, in this release
it just stops there, and we again have to go to the start of the row and
then press down key to reach the first file of next row.

This is particularly annoying for users habituated with keyboards.

[Bug 855853] [NEW] Doesn't reconnect automatically after suspend and resume

2011-09-21 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Public bug reported:

The xchat-gnome network manager plugin is supposed to disconnect and
reconnect automatically when the network goes away, but if I suspend and
resume my laptop, it doesn't reconnect.

This is because network-manager is sending two NM_STATE_DISCONNECTED
events when suspending, and the plugin tries to save the list of network
of channels twice. The second time though, it's saving an empty list.

Patch pending...
