bumped the SONAME for an unstable - stable switch (for some reason).

I accepted cogl from unapproved, it'll land in binNEW and thus can't
break the beta-2 images yet. But then it'll already be built, so that
other stuff in the queue like clutter and gnome-games will already build
against the new one.

[Bug 850373] Re: Lock screen does not pick the new wallpapers dynamically

2011-09-22 Thread Sebastien Bacher
upstream comment:

That's actually not the current design. The current design is to make the
screensaver password screen have the same background as the login password
screen (gdm), not the user's background. It doesn't work exactly that way
either though since the switchover to dconf, but it's a close approximation to
that.

The whole screensaver ui is going to be redone for 3.4, so there may be a new
design then, though.

[Bug 856218] [NEW] Overflowing the input window in IRC causes the window to lock

2011-09-22 Thread Stuart Metcalfe
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 758374 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/758374

Public bug reported:

If I have my IRC window full-screen and type more text than fits in a
single row of the text input field, the window locks and I need to close
all tabs in that window then re-open them to be able to continue
chatting. Interestingly:

 * closing each tab doesn't update the UI so it looks like all tabs are still
open until I close the last, then the window disappears. The window title is,
however, updated with the new tab's title.
 * if I press enter after the long string has caused the window to freeze, the
string is sent to the channel but I don't see it and it doesn't appear in my
chat logs.

FWIW, Pidgin handles this overflow nicely by increasing the vertical
size of the input field, allowing multi-line entry.

[Bug 840086] [NEW] When screen rotated in Nvidia icons in GNOME panel get hidden

2011-09-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

. In normal/landscape rotation mode I have about 10 icons on a panel.
I rotate my screen through Nvidia X Server settings utility to
portrait mode and half the icons on the left side of panel get hidden
behind App..s Places System menu. When I hover over the menu and click
on it, the hidden icon's app still launches instead of opening the menu.
If I click on the leftmost part of Applications, that menu shows up
and while so I can access Places and System menu items only by using
my keyboard arrows. Don't know if problem is X Server, Nvidia driver or
GNOME.

In Windows when you put enough items on the panel it grows vertifcally
and the items wrap around to a second line. Does Ubuntu do the same
and I just don't know how to set it up to do it?

System info:

[Bug 856243] [NEW] Rhythmbox freezes after selcting pause

2011-09-22 Thread Roger Geoffrey Attkins
Public bug reported:

Rhythm Box

* Ctrl space bar pauses but freezes the player, i.e. Ctrl space bar again,
or anything else, won't start play again.
* Top line is greyed out and once pause is selected the player freezes.
Moving to different tracks only works for a time (maybebecause I've used the
pause button).

Emulator

Why can't I select Windows Media Player. It can't see the CD: no disc
in drive D.

It may help you to know that I mostly use CDs with rhythm sections
recorded as backing, or CD's, with rhythm sections I've made myself
using Band in a Box. Also when I play conventional CD's, the player
can't find Artists or Genres.

[Bug 834575] Re: gsettings-data-convert crashed with signal 5 in g_settings_set_value()

2011-09-22 Thread Erick Brunzell
I've gotten this twice shortly after booting to the live DE with Ubuntu
20110921.2/oneiric-desktop-i386.

This hardware, specifically VIA P4M800 graphics chip, boots to Unity 2D
so this may be limited to the 2D DE.

I'll try cross testing on my Intel box ASAP to see if that's correct.

Could this be related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source

Try setting the volume to 100 in alsa-mixer and then see if changing the

so, then it's almost definitely the same bug.

[Bug 805894] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with signal 5 in xkl_process_error()

2011-09-22 Thread m...@papersolve.com
After reading more of a related RedHat bug
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=657726) it would seem that
these crashes are in fact due to some bad messages coming back from
xklavier or xinput, and gnome-settings-daemon not being able to handle
them. Here is a recent stack trace:

[Bug 787349] Re: [Natty] Cannot exit screensaver : frozen

2011-09-22 Thread Jim
I've found a potential fix:

-Install Compiz Settings Manager: sudo apt-get install compizconfig-
settings-manager

-Go to OpenGL plug-in uncheck the Sync to VBlank option.

I am trying a the moment wether this may work or not :) but it seems that it
has worked for others. I forgot to mention in my previous comment that i was
having this problem in Gnome desktop not Unity. For more about this fix check

[Bug 820327] Re: Fn+F7 cycling gives external monitor incorrect resolution on Thinkpad x220

2011-09-22 Thread Eric Williams
Hi,

More information about this issue:

- still happening on an up-to-date Natty

- Problem *does not occur* if gnome-display-properties is running at the
time

- The exact symptoms have changed a little, but still shows the same
inability to properly set the external monitor

- With gnome-display-properties running, cycling through modes with
Fn+F7 looks like this (in order):

ModeInternalExternal

Spanning DesktopOn On
Clone Mode On Broken
Internal Only On Off
External Only Off On
Spanning (again)On Broken

If gnome-display-properties is running, it works properly:

ModeInternalExternal

Spanning DesktopOn On
Clone Mode On On
Internal Only On Off
External Only Off On
Spanning (again)On on

This is on a projector, which doesn't support many modes, so broken is
basically black.

When run on a fairly flexible external monitor, I noticed that the
resolution/refresh as reported by xrandr does not match the actual
resolution of the monitor. In the attached photo, you'll see output of
xrandr (white on black) saying the monitor is 1920x1200@60Hz, but the
monitor's status menu says it's running 1600x1200@60Hz.

The GNOME desktop believes that the monitor is 1920 pixels wide, so even
though there's a picture on the monitor, much of it is missing.

Thanks,
Eric

[Bug 856016] Re: Brasero crashes during CD-copy-process

2011-09-22 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 620693] Re: Screen not locked when turned off

2011-09-22 Thread tekstr1der
I've followed this bug specifically due to natty 11.04 behavior. The
screen does not lock after blank.

gconf settings:

lock blank_screen is true
lock use_screensaver_settings is false

The display blanks correctly at the time set in the G-P-M settings.
However, the screen does not lock thereafter.

My workaround, while waiting on this bug, has been to enable the
screensaver and its option to lock the screen. I will then set the
screen to blank at 10 minutes and the screensaver to kick in/lock at 11
minutes. That leaves me with only 1 minute where I'm in this
unexpectedly insecure state.

While testing, I've disabled the screensaver options (desired behavior)
to focus solely on the blank/lock issue.

Any ideas Michael Terry?

[Bug 842768] Re: Cups notifies printer ' xxx ' may be not connected although printer is OK and printing is OK too

2011-09-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-settings-daemon -

---
gnome-settings-daemon (3.1.92-0ubuntu2) oneiric; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/45_suppress-printer-may-not-be-connected-notification.patch:
Do not show notifications if the printer state reason connecting-to-device
is reported by CUPS. The text of this state reason notificatioon is the
misleading Printer XXX may not be connected and the reason is set in
every print job (usually only for a short time but enough to trigger the
notifier). As we are after UI freeze we simply suppress this notification
with this patch (do not forward upstream). The real fix would be improving
the text, like really saying Connecting to printer XXX ... (LP: #842768).

2011-09-22 Thread Martin Pitt
pango1.0 (1.29.3+git20110916-0ubuntu1) oneiric; urgency=low

  * Update to current git HEAD, as this hasn't been released for quite some
time, and we require some of the fixes for our PyGI progams:
- Fix compilation on newer GLib versions
- Fix double free after calling Pango.Context.get_font_description()
- Fix missing GI transfer annotation for pango_layout_get_line_readonly()
- build: Fix srcdir != builddir.
- Add C include and exported packages information to GIRs
- Some typo fixes in the docs
- Win32 build fixes.
  * Drop 13_fix_pango_annotation_from_git.patch, upstream now.
  * debian/libpango1.0-doc.install.in: Install HTML documentation from source
tree instead of install tree, as this doesn't work with a separate build
directory.
  * debian/rules: Remove pango/pango-enum-types.*, so that they get rebuilt in
the separate build tree. Fixes missing enum gtypes in GIR.

2011-09-22 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the
developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack
trace.
Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an
attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your
problem.

[Bug 842829] Re: evolution 2.32.2-0ubuntu7 suddenly kills calendar, tasks, memo

2011-09-22 Thread rick beldin
Observations during testing:

- As far as I can tell, this is some sort of handled condition within
/usr/lib/evolution/e-calendar-factory and evolution. No sigsegv's.

- /usr/lib/evolution/e-calendar-factory does not exit

- killing it while keeping evolution started does not cause it to
'reconnect' to evolution

- this thread shows 'similar' problems without the segv

This bug was fixed in the package gnome-desktop3 - 3.1.92-0ubuntu2

gnome-desktop3 (3.1.92-0ubuntu2) oneiric; urgency=low

  * Fix LP: #854101
  * debian/patches/01_avoid_refresh_on_config_apply.patch.patch:
- In gnome_rr_config_apply_from_filename_with_time(), don't call
gnome_rr_screen_refresh(). This is pointless due to the async nature
of X, and the protocol already guards agains the possiblilty that the
client view of the display configuration is out-of-date. This function is
also called 3 times during the critical path at startup by
gnome-settings-daemon (for each possible display config file), which
  wastes around 1.5s

[Bug 842829] Re: evolution 2.32.2-0ubuntu7 suddenly kills calendar, tasks, memo

2011-09-22 Thread rick beldin
Downloading source, cscope shows only a few hits in the 'e-*' part of
the code which I 'assume' means the e-calendar-thingie and none of the
others are assertions:

Functions calling this function: g_utf8_validate

  FileFunction Line
0 e-name-western.ce_name_western_parse 941 if (!g_utf8_validate
 (full_name, -1, (const
 gchar **)end)) {
1 e-vcard.c make_valid_utf8576 if (g_utf8_validate
 (remainder,
 remaining_bytes, invalid))
2 e-vcard.c make_valid_utf8596 g_assert (g_utf8_validate

 (string-str, -1, NULL));

this seems to be from here:

 563 /* Stolen from glib/glib/gconvert.c */
 564 static gchar *
 565 make_valid_utf8 (const gchar *name)
 566 {

 594 g_string_append (string, remainder);
 595
 596 g_assert (g_utf8_validate (string-str, -1, NULL));

Re: [Bug 855404] Re: Lock screen after setting in Screen is ignored

2011-09-22 Thread Rachel Greenham
On 21/09/11 20:15, Sebastien Bacher wrote:
could you stop gnome-settings-daemon, run it from a command line with
--debug, get the issue and copy the log to the bug?

I may need more specific instructions on how to do that.

When i tried it using logical-to-me means, it just respawned; before
noticing that I ran it from the commandline with --debug, it did some
stuff (log included below fwiw) and then exited.

Basically I did:

killall gnome-settings-daemon

That did kill that process, but I failed to noticed immediately that
another one of the same name (but different PID) had started up.

Then I ran

/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon --debug

And got this output (which I suspect isn't relevant):

[Bug 832603] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in g_simple_async_result_complete()

2011-09-22 Thread Rodrigo Moya
Kate, mzc: what g-s-d version do you have installed? This should be
fixed in 3.1.91 or 3.1.92, don't remember which one.
