[Bug 873869] [NEW] nautilus crashes very often 0x00007fffde8788be in gconf_client_get () from /usr/lib/libgconf-2.so.4

2011-10-13 Thread ngsupb
Public bug reported:

Nautilus crashes very often last time. It seems it started to happen
after I install image-resize for nautilus. But I am not sure. Even
removing this package doesn't help. So probably something else. This
time it doesn't start after crash. So I am able to make a backtrace.

I have attached gdb-nautilus.txt

Hope this helps.

2011-10-13 Thread Bishnu Mishra
I also use Compaq Persario CQ40 with Oneric 64bit and I also face exactly the
same issue.
Even if the battery is 70%, it say battery critically low and laptop suspends
when on battery power.
My Oneric version is not Beta version it is the stable version I installed
yesterday.

** Description changed:

  I'm using Oneiric 64 bit on a HP Compaq CQ40.
  After the indicator displays 'charged' and the power source is unplugged, a
pop-up shows 'Laptop battery critically low'. After clicking the Cancel button,
the computer enters hibernation shortly.

[Bug 871133] Re: Ubuntu Oneric Volume Step Can Not be Changed

Rolling on the sound icon with my touchpad causes smaller increases in the

volume instead of popup the entire window.
Using the manual volume control wheel on the front of my toshiba laptop, the

[Bug 861443] Re: There is no easy way to change proxy settings in Ubuntu 11.10

2011-10-13 Thread RawwrBag
More info: the new GUI doesn't correctly toggle
gconf/system/http_proxy/use_http_proxy to true when only a socks server
is specified. Without this, neither Chrome nor Firefox will attempt to
tunnel through socks. As a workaround, set this value manually using
gconf-editor. Also the ignored hosts list is very useful for users on
corporate networks where they do need some internal resources. It should
be included.

[Bug 873808] [NEW] brightness applet needs to support nvidia_backlight

2011-10-13 Thread Austin Canfield
Public bug reported:

There is a popular third-party backlight driver for Nvidia GPUs that are
not supported by the manufacturers backlight driver, known as nvidiabl
(or nvidia_backlight). See https://github.com/guillaumezin/nvidiabl for
more information. This is not the same driver as nv_backlight.

In order for this driver to be recognized by the brightness applet,
nvidia_backlight needs to be added to the top of the vendor array in
gsd-backlight-helper so that it looks like this:

/* available kernel interfaces in priority order */
static const gchar *backlight_interfaces[] = {
"nvidia_backlight",
"nv_backlight",
"asus_laptop",
"toshiba",
"eeepc",
"thinkpad_screen",
"acpi_video1",
"mbp_backlight",
"acpi_video0",
"fujitsu-laptop",
"sony",
"samsung",
NULL,
};

nvidia_backlight needs to be placed at the top of the list because the
non-functioning vendor module (sony, in my case) is still present in
/sys/class/backlight, so nvidia_backlight needs to be recognized before
sony.

[Bug 864458] Re: screensaver doesn't work

2011-10-13 Thread zhiwei
It returns "true" when I run this command.

I resolved this problem by run this command: "gsettings set
org.gnome.desktop.lockdown disable-lock-screen false"

I copied guest session's home dir(/tmp/GuestXXX/*) to administrator's
dir(/home/admin/*) a few days ago, and this let admin account disabled
lock_screen, because guest session has disabled the lock_screen function
by default.

Thank you for your help!

Yes, I saw that, hoped it would fix this, and I'm pretty sure it did

[Bug 873783] [NEW] Nautilus does not open every alternate time

2011-10-13 Thread Saurav
Public bug reported:

Expected behaviour: Every time I click on the launcher icon for
Nautilus, a Nautilus file browsing window should open.

Actual behaviour: -
Once I open a Nautilus file browsing window, then close it, then try to open it
again, it does not open. The panel's 3D effect disappears, the Nautilus icon in
the launcher pulsates as if trying to open it, and a glimpse of the Nautilus
window sometimes flashes for a fraction of a second, then nothing happens. When
the launcher icon has stopped pulsating and I then click on it again, the
Nautilus window opens correctly. This process repeats every time I close the
window.

[Bug 873767] Re: infinite loop in totem-video-thumbnailer

2011-10-13 Thread Bruno Santos
Had some issue with my .thumbnail directory and the fail icon for the
file wasn't being stored, so thus the infinite loop. Worked well with
gnome 2, so maybe the way it works now is less robust than in gnome 2?
Either way is solved, so I'll mark it invalid.

+ infinite loop in totem-video-thumbnailer

** Description changed:

  I'm not sure if this totem-video-thumbnailer or nautilus who is at fault
- here. When I download an mp3 to the Desktop, I noticed that the laptop
- fan started up a few moments later, then later I noticed the icon for
- the mp3 was always the temporary one when nautilus is waiting for a
- thumbnail of the media. Then I check .xsession-errors to see if anything
- was being logged and noticed that there's a continuous output from
- totem-video-thumbnailer with the following:
+ here. When I open any folder with audio files in it, I noticed that the
+ laptop fan started up a few moments later, then later I noticed the
+ icons for the audio files were always the temporary ones when nautilus

[Bug 857089] Re: suggestion: nautilus tweak in ambience theme

2011-10-13 Thread Adrian Wechner
you are right, maybe a white would be cool :)

on the other hand, I think the implementation problem is based on the
container distribution...

now is...
two horizontal areas where the right area is again splitted in top area
(toolbar) and bottom area (main content) and where the left area is the file
view thing.

it would be "easy" to implement that tweak if we change the container
distribution...
two vertical areas where the top area is the toolbar and the bottom area will
be splittet in 2 areas (bottom-left: file tree, bottom right: main content)

with that change there will be no issue anymore what do you think?

[Bug 203755] Re: 'authorization failed' at gnome login

2011-10-13 Thread dcannell
Just so someone is aware this *IS* a continuing issue. Last night I
updated from 2.6.35-28 to 2.6.35-30 and on reboot was unable to login to
the GUI. I was able to login to the TTY session however. By making the
two edits to /etc/pam.d/gdm I was able to login to the GUI successfully.

Thanks to ehpc, I didn't really want to rebuild this system...

[Bug 873763] [NEW] menubar settings for new terminals are ignored in gnome-shell

2011-10-13 Thread Victor Zamanian
Public bug reported:

In gnome-terminal settings, I always disable the "Show menubar by
default in new terminals" option. This seems better ignored in Unity
since it has its global menu anyway. But this option should not be
ignored in gnome-shell, which it seems to be. I disable the option, open
new terminals, but the menubar is visible! In the View menu, the "Show
Menubar" option is unchecked. I have to *check* that option in the View
menu, then *uncheck* it to finally get rid of the menubar in a terminal.
If the option is *enabled*, then the option is *checked* in the View
menu for new terminals.

[Bug 41994] Re: closed Laptop Lid to reliably keep Backlight off

2011-10-13 Thread Ben Shadwick
I can't believe this is another 5+ year old bug that is still
unresolved. I am experiencing this issue on Ubuntu/Xubuntu 11.04. The
problem is that somehow dpms calls are being made to turn the backlight
back on when a mouse event occurs, even though the lid is still shut.

I ran into some difficulty because the Ubuntu acpi-support scripts don't
run if they detect a desktop (gnome/kde/xfce/etc) power-manager app
running. It's a pain to have to kill those, because I lose all GUI-based
power management (battery indicator, etc.) on my laptop. However, I got
so fed up with this issue that I felt it was worth it to block the
power-manager app so that acpid could run the show.

In the end, the best solution I could find was to run lid.sh on a
1-minute recurring cron job. This forces the backlight off when the lid
is closed and on when it's open. Not a very elegant solution, but at
least I won't have to worry about burning out my laptop's monitor any
more.

Also vbetool did not work for me. Specifically, it was able to turn off
the backlight, but was not able to turn it back on. After using vbetool
to turn off the backlight, I had to switch to a text console and back to
get the backlight to come back on!

[Bug 873470] Re: File-roller is associated with .docx files instead of LibreOffice

2011-10-13 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Funnily enough on older Ubuntu releases : this file is correctly
associated with libreoffice/openoffice AND it can be successfully opened
with file-roller (as docx files are zip files). But on Oneiric the file
is wrongly associated with file-roller and file-roller cannot even
handle the same file...

I think we have two different bugs here.

[Bug 533109] Re: Icon missing for notification flash when indicator applet isn't used.

2011-10-13 Thread ViViD
This bug still exists in Oneiric 11.10. Along with other icons, notably
the Zoom In/Out and Normal Size in the Nautilus View menu. Going on two
years without packaging these icons and it would be nice if they were
included.

Assuming that the people who know how to change the default behavior of
Unity/Gnome will know how to symlink icons is not an acceptable
workaround to the issue, in my opinion.

I have to say that nautilus-open-terminal is the issue here, sorry for
confusion. After uninstalling it everything seems to work fine.

[Bug 873712] [NEW] Lack of GstMiniObject means Gst.Message is broken, can't get EOS signal

2011-10-13 Thread Jason Gerard DeRose
Public bug reported:

It's almost possible to use GStreamer from PyGI. The hang up is that
currently you can't get EOS signals from a pipeline, and that the
message bus is overall broken.

As far as I know, this is because pygobject doesn't grok the
GstMiniObject type, which mean Gst.Message is an unknown type. There is
an upstream bug with a patch (work in progress):

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=631901

I'm not sure if this would be too invasive a change to deliver to
Oneiric users through a SRU, but this would help smooth the transition
to PyGI (and possibly only shipping Python3 on the CD) for Precise as
app devs could be working with PyGI and GStreamer right now on Oneiric.

For what it's worth, this would really help Novacut. Either way, lets
make sure PyGI + GStreamer rocks in Precise!

(Side note: this also raises a question... GStreamer 0.10 or 1.0 in
Precise?)

I consider this a good test case for this bug. Same problem whether you
use Python2 or Python3 (but for Novacut, we care about Python3).
Currently this script will fail with:

TypeError: unknown type GstMessage

#!/usr/bin/python3

GObject.threads_init()

from gi.repository import Gst
Gst.init(None)

mainloop = GObject.MainLoop()

print('eos: {!r}'.format(msg))
pipeline.set_state(gst.STATE_NULL)
mainloop.quit()

def on_message(bus, msg):
print('message: {!r}'.format(msg))

bus = pipeline.get_bus()
bus.add_signal_watch()
bus.connect('message::eos', on_eos)
bus.connect('message', on_message)

bus = pipeline.get_bus()
bus.add_signal_watch()
bus.connect('message::eos', on_eos)

src = Gst.ElementFactory.make('videotestsrc', None)
src.set_property('num-buffers', 10)
sink = Gst.ElementFactory.make('fakesink', None)
pipeline.add(src)

[Bug 873677] Re: nautilus quits when opening folders

2011-10-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 871850] [NEW] Cannot shutdown via UI

2011-10-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

STR: Click on the top-right menu widget and select 'Shut Down...'
ER: machine shuts down
AR: I'm logged out and returned to the lightdm screen. Selecting Shut down from
the menu there brings up a confirmation dialog, but confirming that leaves the
system unchanged (ie. on the lightdm screen).

Note: I then tried switching to a tty and doing `sudo shutdown 0` which
started shutting down, but dropped me to a root prompt. Details:
