Re: [Bug 820327] Re: Fn+F7 cycling gives external monitor incorrect resolution on Thinkpad x220
I can do this monday, hope that's not too late h On 19 October 2011 10:31, Chris Halse Rogers r...@ubuntu.com wrote: It would also be useful to capture the X calls that gnome-settings-daemon makes. You should be able to do this by installing the ‘xtrace’ package, and running killall gnome-settings-daemon xtrace -o ~/gnome-settings-daemon.xtrace /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon at a terminal. This should kill the existing daemon and then start a new one, capturing all the X calls it makes to ~/gnome-settings-daemon.xtrace. Then, cycle through the fn-f7 options again - both with the displays panel open, and without, so we get an example of both working and broken behaviour - and attach the ~/gnome-settings-daemon.xtrace file here. If this is too complicated, the gsd-debug-randr.log file Sebastian was asking for above might contain enough information to debug this problem, so don't worry if it's too much effort. -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/820327 Title: Fn+F7 cycling gives external monitor incorrect resolution on Thinkpad x220 Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” source package in Oneiric: New Bug description: ## Issue Pressing Fn+F7 to cycle through monitor configuration produces unusable monitor configuration on external-monitor-only mode. (Delay in response: this clean installation of 11.10 with no exotic installs melted down, so that I could only log in on tty! I have just reinstalled 11.10 from scratch, clean. The bug reported here recurred.) Ah, yes, there's a key caveat. Logged in locally, nautilus behaves okay. I mostly log in remotely from a machine (both with Internet addresses) right next to it. When logged in over ssh -X, nautilus comes up fine but fails when asked to show Trash or Computer. In fact, once I have launched nautilus locally ONCE, it seems to work okay remotely, too. [Bug 878767] Re: No GUI option to week-starting day
Thanks for your effort to help improve Ubuntu by pointing at this aspect of user preferences! Indeed there is a suitable GUI for the purpose, namely the Regional Formats tab in Language Support. If you for instance prefer the US conventions for dates and times (weeks begin on Sunday), you pick the en_US locale, etc. Actually I would argue against adding such a control to the Time Date settings module. Language Support's Regional Formats tab - and its successor in Precise - is there for a reason, and when a user selects a region for controlling this kind of settings, s/he can be assumed to expect that the choice is effective all over the desktop. In other words, typically I don't think that app specific UIs that override the user's choice in Language Support is a good idea. Btw, the existing control for setting 12-hour or 24-hour time is superfluous IMO. How about dealing with this bug report by simply adding a link from the Time Date module to the central desktop tool for regional formats settings? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/878767 Title: No GUI option to week-starting day To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/878767/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 841085] Re: Log File Viewer empty
I don't consider this a bug anymore! Big thanks to Timothy Mayoh Sebastien Bacher. I can't believe my ignorance. guys, just go to /var/log and right-click whatever log file you're interested in and select Copy to and then select your Home folder. Or alternatively you can open the Log File Viewer and press CTRL+O and select whatever log you want. It will then show in the left-side pane. Next time you open Log File Viewer, that Log will still be there. After learning these things, I actually prefer the Log File Viewer be empty after a new install because the Log Viewer opens quickly and there aren't a gazillion logs present that I never use. I can input whatever log interests me whenever I want. Maybe this bug should be changed to a Won't Fix? I think it's more from ignorance on the user's part.
