h

On 19 October 2011 10:31, Chris Halse Rogers r...@ubuntu.com wrote:
It would also be useful to capture the X calls that gnome-settings-daemon
makes.  You should be able to do this by installing the ‘xtrace’ package, and
 running

 killall gnome-settings-daemon xtrace -o ~/gnome-settings-daemon.xtrace
 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon

at a terminal.  This should kill the existing daemon and then start a new
one, capturing all the X calls it makes to ~/gnome-settings-daemon.xtrace.

Then, cycle through the fn-f7 options again - both with the displays
panel open, and without, so we get an example of both working and broken
behaviour - and attach the ~/gnome-settings-daemon.xtrace file here.

If this is too complicated, the gsd-debug-randr.log file Sebastian was
asking for above might contain enough information to debug this problem,
so don't worry if it's too much effort.

Fn+F7 cycling gives external monitor incorrect resolution on Thinkpad

Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” source package in Oneiric:
  New

 Bug description:
  ## Issue

Pressing Fn+F7 to cycle through monitor configuration produces
unusable monitor configuration on external-monitor-only mode.

External monitor is set to incorrect resolution when it's the only
  active display.

xrandr output does not match resolution of external display that is
actually set.  E.g., xrandr shows 1920x1080@60Hz,  but monitor
status menu shows 1360 x 768 @ 60Hz, which it does not support.

  ## Environment

  - Thinkpad X220 (T61 also fails)

  -  External monitor attached

  ## Steps to reproduce:

  - connect external monitor to ThinkPad X220 (or X61)

  - press Fn+F7 to cycle through modes

  - on External Monitor Only mode, compare resolution of external
monitor as reported by xrandr and the monitor itself.

[Bug 863154] Re: Wacom Bamboo One tablet random coordinate malfunctions

2011-10-20 Thread Deevad
*Gimp 2.7+Git compilation info :

 I advice this script : http://blog.zanshine.com/blog/stephane-
richard/2011-05-10/cutting-edge-gimp-in-latest-ubuntu/

Here I did local change to the script to make it cleaner :
l.52
opt_dir=/opt
( to build in opt and keep 2.6 , I also create a 'gimp' folder with 777 right
in this /opt/ folder )

l.55
src_dir=$HOME/source-to-compile/gimp-razor/
(the place I keep the source )

l.186
sudo make install || exit_with while executing 'make install' for $name
( I add 'sudo' )

Then I run the script and it work alone automagically. Same to update.
To launch Gimp : it's in a 'bin' folder inside /opt/gimp ... easy to create a
launcher.

I'm affected by this bug as well. Have you guys considered supporting
multiple launchers, one per screen? Maybe even have each launcher only
display application on its own monitor?

[Bug 878579] [NEW] can't edit theme

2011-10-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

THIS may be intended, but I think it should count as a bug because it is
SUPER LAME. I can no longer change the colors of my theme in the
Appearance menu, or at all. I usually have pink or green as my
background and don't like orange, and these colors really clash. I'm
running the newly released 11.10, Oneiric Ocelot. Honestly, if people
don't want to change the theme they can use a preset one.

[Bug 789305] Re: Empathy does not receive google chat messages until I disconnect and reconnect

2011-10-20 Thread Žygimantas Augilius
on 11.10 i have same issue, only my google chat messages are permanently
lost:

My laptop is connected on both wired and wireless connections:
1. Disconnect wired connection, wireless connection is working, empathy does
not reconnect and all my send messages are lost, not received even after manual
disconnect/reconnect.
2. Connect back wired connection - empathy reconnects after 1 minute and
messaging is working normally.

It seeems that one case is handled (connect of wired connection), while
another case is not (disconnect of wired connection).

$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 11.10
Release: 11.10

$ apt-cache policy empathy
empathy:
  Installed: 3.2.0-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.2.0-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3.2.0-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://mirror.soften.ktu.lt/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

What I expect to happen:
On wired connection disconnect, empathy should try to reconnect to wireless
connection
What happens instead:
Empathy stays connected, but actually no google chat messages are being sent

[Bug 764632] Re: The Use SSH tunnel option doesn't work

Ok, I've updated to the current stable version (3.2.1) and include your
patch (I've taken the upstream git commit to have the context and
description in the patch with the commit number)

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: vinagre

- I get this message:

+ Before the update it displays this message:
  Error creating the SSH tunnel

I've had this problem in the past but it usually worked if I simply
retried the connection. Now it happens every time and it won't establish

works fine, also if I create the tunnel with:

[Bug 878510] Re: Can't open dockable dialogues if I close them and other strange behaviours

2011-10-20 Thread mmiicc
I've reported this bug upstream:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=662240 and after suggestion from
Martin Nordholts (GIMP developer), I compiled GTK+ from 2.24.5 from
ftp://ftp.gtk.org/pub/gtk/2.24/ and than BABL,
GEGL and GIMP from git. The bug does not appear after that (for GIMP from git).
So it looks like the problem is Ubuntu's implementation of GTK+.

[Bug 872841] Re: Attempting to view Trash in Nautilus gives The folder contents could not be displayed ...Operation not supported

2011-10-20 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
(Delay in response: this clean installation of 11.10 with no exotic
installs melted down, so that I could only log in on tty! I have just
reinstalled 11.10 from scratch, clean. The bug reported here recurred.)

Ah, yes, there's a key caveat. Logged in locally, nautilus behaves okay.
I mostly log in remotely from a machine (both with Internet addresses)
right next to it. When logged in over ssh -X, nautilus comes up fine but
fails when asked to show Trash or Computer.

In fact, once I have launched nautilus locally ONCE, it seems to work
okay remotely, too. So that means to reproduce this I might need to
reinstall. Weird. But still a problem for servers which may never get a
local login.

[Bug 800687] Re: Eject button for CD media re-close immediately the tray

2011-10-20 Thread FM33
The problem is still present in oneiric. It occurs as well with nautilus (eject
icon) and with unity (right-click in the launcher - eject). When the tray
recloses, the disc is not always remounted. The problem doest not occur when
pressing the device button. When pressing the device button, the disc is not
unmounted. Sometimes, right-clicking on the icon make it to unmount, else i
need to unmount by command line.
This occurs with both devices (IDE).

[Bug 878767] Re: No GUI option to week-starting day

2011-10-20 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your effort to help improve Ubuntu by pointing at this aspect
of user preferences!

Indeed there is a suitable GUI for the purpose, namely the Regional
Formats tab in Language Support. If you for instance prefer the US
conventions for dates and times (weeks begin on Sunday), you pick the
en_US locale, etc.

Actually I would argue against adding such a control to the Time Date
settings module. Language Support's Regional Formats tab - and its
successor in Precise - is there for a reason, and when a user selects a
region for controlling this kind of settings, s/he can be assumed to
expect that the choice is effective all over the desktop. In other
words, typically I don't think that app specific UIs that override the
user's choice in Language Support is a good idea. Btw, the existing
control for setting 12-hour or 24-hour time is superfluous IMO.

How about dealing with this bug report by simply adding a link from the
Time Date module to the central desktop tool for regional formats
settings?

[Bug 841085] Re: Log File Viewer empty

2011-10-20 Thread Nick Rundy
I don't consider this a bug anymore!

Big thanks to Timothy Mayoh Sebastien Bacher. I can't believe my
ignorance.

guys, just go to /var/log and right-click whatever log file you're
interested in and select Copy to and then select your Home folder. Or
alternatively you can open the Log File Viewer and press CTRL+O and
select whatever log you want. It will then show in the left-side pane.
Next time you open Log File Viewer, that Log will still be there.

After learning these things, I actually prefer the Log File Viewer be
empty after a new install because the Log Viewer opens quickly and there
aren't a gazillion logs present that I never use. I can input whatever
log interests me whenever I want.

Maybe this bug should be changed to a Won't Fix? I think it's more
from ignorance on the user's part. My initially viewing this as a bug
certainly was from ignorance on my part.

2011-10-20 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the stable
release - Oneiric Ocelot. It would help us greatly if you could test
with it so we can work on getting it fixed. You can find out more about
the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again
and we appreciate your help.
