[Bug 863309] Re: Menubar always shown by default (although deactivated) (after upgrade)

2011-10-21 Thread Ole Martin Bjørndalen
I think Nautilus may have the same problem.

After the upgrade, Nautilus has sprouted menus when running in the root window.
The menus appear after about a short delay, just as in Gnome Terminal. Could
there be a common cause?

I'm running Nautilus under fvwm (nautilus --no-default-window).

I've found one other reference to this problem, but no bug report:

[Bug 879266] [NEW] gnome clock 'copy date' ignores custom format

2011-10-21 Thread Max Waterman
Public bug reported:

run gconf and change the clock app's format to a custom one. On my
system (ubuntu 11.04 using custom desktop) it is
/apps/panel/applets/applet_0/prefs. Enter 'custom' for 'format' and (eg)
'%Y/%b/%d (%a)' for 'custom_format'. Quit gconf.

You should see the custom format displayed in the clock as (eg)
'2011/Oct/21 (Fri)'.

Now, right click on the clock and select 'copy date'. Paste somewhere.

Observe that instead of '2011/Oct/21 (Fri)' you get 'Friday, 21 October
2011'.

Please consider implementing a change to make the 'copy date' option
copy what is displayed and not ... something else.

Clock 2.32.1 - difficult to tell what package this is in (would be nice
to have in the 'about'), but I'm guessing it is /usr/lob/gnome-panel
/clock-applet which is part of gnome-panel versino 1:2.32.1-0ubuntu6.5.

with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the stable
 release - Oneiric Ocelot

How? To replicate it, you have to make an enduring change to the system
and then reboot, and of course the live environment is running off read-
only media.

I had reason recently to do a fresh install 11.10 briefly and I'm about 90%
sure the same problem *did* occur, but there's that 10% uncertainty. Similarly
I believe 11.04 has the problem as well.

[Bug 850649] Re: gnome-terminal extremely slow and display buggy

2011-10-21 Thread Vadász Zoltán B .
Terminal tab switching is slower in 11.10 on my machine (Core2Duo@2GHz,4GB RAM)
with Unity-2D too. Also workspace switching is a nightmare in vte based
terminal implementations:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vte/+bug/665548.
In 11.04 it was also slow however I could live with it.
Maybe vte is the key to this slowliness?

[Bug 665548] Re: changing workspaces is very slow in case of big terminal windows

2011-10-21 Thread Vadász Zoltán B .
In 11.10 this slow switch improved a lot. Switching to a workspace having a
maximized gnome-terminal takes 2-5 seconds on my Core2Duo@2GHz+Nvidia
laptop The same happens with lxterminal.
Also if a maximized terminal is on any of the other workspaces switching
between two workspace not having a terminal is randomly slowed down too.

Please improve importance.

For those suffering like me: old fashioned terminal implementations
are not effected: xterm, rxvt, mrxvt works fine. Try mrxvt.

restore, or when starting afresh.
Now the evolution-backup.tar.gz product is 332Kb in size.

[Bug 879305] [NEW] POP Leave messages on server now requires Days

2011-10-21 Thread David Clayton
Public bug reported:

Evolution 3.x has changed in the POP Receiving Options to have the
Leave Messages On Server selection linked to the Days value. In
Evolution 2.x (and probably previous versions) these options were
separate.

This is very confusing for users who want *all* their POP messages left
on the server with no day filtering, and seems non-standard when
compared to previous Evolution versions and just about every other POP
client that I have encountered.

If the Leave messages on server option is selected, then the Days
option should also be required to enabled, not left permanently enabled
as if the current situation.

[Bug 879373] [NEW] Appearance panel uses the word UI

2011-10-21 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

gnome-control-center 1:3.2.0-0ubuntu6, Ubuntu 11.10

1. Navigate to the Appearance panel.

What you see: Theme to be used for the UI

What's wrong: People can't be expected to know what UI is

According to the specification, that string shouldn't be there at all.
There should just be a Theme: label, not a heading plus a label.

Dear Sean

You just saved me from serious withdrawal symptoms.

I am new to UBUNTU, is very happy with it and would like to learn more.
I was an IT expert in the time of NOS, CP/P and PCDOS and would love to
learn more about UBUNTU. I will have to start from scratch and would
appreciate suggestions.

My first problem: Disk layout ...

Thank you again

No programming needed. Open up the Update Manager, and click on the
Settings... button bottom left; this opens up the Software Sources
window. Click on the Updates tab, and then check off the box next to
where it says Pre-released updates (oneiric-proposed). Close the
software sources window, and click on the Check button in update manager
to reload the software info. It should then ask you to update the
sudoku program to the latest version with the fix.

[Bug 569994] Re: eject hotkey fails to eject cd

2011-10-21 Thread Pascal Allegra
My system is dell640m with lucid lynx (updated).
I've used the following workaround:
I've associated my eject key with a script that call eject (it works) and show
the icon.
This is the script:
#!/bin/sh
notify-send Icon Only -i notification-device-eject -h
string:x-canonical-private-icon-only:
eject

To have notify-send command in lucid you have to install the package
libnotify-bin.

Let me know if it works also in 11.10.

shift-clicking in the menu bar as well.

[Bug 515057] Re: does not remember the adjustments of extra pane

2011-10-21 Thread Jens Finkhäuser
I'd love to see the second pane remembered by default, too. I find
myself switching to the terminal every time I want to copy or move
files, because it's more comfortable for addressing multiple locations -
that simply *cannot* point to a good design choice for a graphical
browser.
