[Bug 885989] [NEW] white screen on second monitor for dual head mode

2011-11-03 Thread Jammy Zhou

after login with unity or unity-2d. After tracking the gnome-session, it

[Bug 663717] Re: Nautilus forget his favorite-names after logout

2011-11-03 Thread busymind
still exist on 11.10; unity-2D

After restart of computer all bookmarks made into nautilus for smb
shares are named just "smb" I have 15 bookmarks and is not funny at all.
If you just click on smb named bookmark will be back with the initial
name. Work around for me is to rename differently the bookmarks but the
downside is - if you want to unmount the samba share (mounted from the
bookmark) the nautilus will crash.

[Bug 885947] [NEW] Location of "Left-handed" and "Right-handed" are switched, logically

2011-11-03 Thread kroq-gar78

Using Ubuntu 11.10

On the control panel where the "Mouse and Touchpad" settings are, the
"Right-handed" option is on the left side of the "Left-handed" option,
which is on the right of the "Right-handed" option. This seems slightly
strange in my opinion, as one would think that the left-handed option is
on the left side, opposed to where it currently is.

[Bug 885939] [NEW] notify-osd causes the gnome classic session to fail

2011-11-03 Thread glennric
Public bug reported:

I have noticed several other users that are having this issue as well in
in Ubuntu 11.10. Most of these users believe they are running the gnome
classic session and that compiz failed to start. The fact is that
notify-osd is causing the gnome-classic session to fail entirely, and
the gnome-fallback session is loaded instead (which of course does not
load compiz). The gnome-classic session works fine after removing
notify-osd from the RequiredProviders line of the file /usr/share/gnome-
session/sessions/gnome-classic.session. It should be noted that notify-
osd still starts after removing it from the RequiredProviders, and seems
to still be working. So most likely it is just an error in
communication between notify-osd and the gnome session (inverted boolean
return value perhaps?).

2011-11-03 Thread Bruno Santos
Yes Victor.

I uploaded my package it to a ppa (my first try at using the ppa
system), but it's still waiting to build. i386 will start in 8 minutes,
amd64 in 28. If it builds, you can probably try it from the ppa. I think
I should have increased the version, though. I can't tell if it'll
upgrade your current package.

[Bug 885592] Re: No "parent folder" button

2011-11-03 Thread Earl Malmrose
Clicking breadcrumbs is a poor workaround for such an often used
activity. First, most of time the parent breadcrumb is hidden, so you
first need to click the reveal button before the parent button even
shows up. This essentially doubles the number of clicks to navigate to
the parent. Furthermore, the parent breadcrumb moves around, and isn't
always in the same location. This also slows down up-navigation. Lack of
a true parent-button is a huge step backwards in productivity.

[Bug 885923] [NEW] Laptop goes into hibernate immediately after resuming from standby

2011-11-03 Thread George Iosif
Public bug reported:

On my laptop, most of the times I resume from standby (i.e. suspend to RAM),
the system will display a dialog box stating that my system is very low on
battery and that it will hibernate (i.e. suspend to disk), which it does a few
seconds later, even if I don't press Ok or Cancel on the dialog box.
Also, the battery on the laptop still has some good time to go (more than 1
hour) when this happens, so it's not that the battery is low on power.

[Bug 822063] Re: [Oneiric] Nautilus two pane view, unfocused pane can't be accessed by mouse click

2011-11-03 Thread Sam_
** Description changed:

Nautilus with enabled location bar (Ctrl+L), two pane view (F3) and side pane
with tree view.
The unfocused location bar doesn't allow to be clicked on in order to change
focus of panes or to edit for example the path.
  This is possible in Natty.
- Acknowlegded that switching panes can also be done by F6, the mouse option
should remain available as an obvious access-tool, the shortcut isn't
documented prominently.
+ Acknowledged that switching panes can also be done by F6, the mouse option
should remain available as an obvious access-tool, the shortcut isn't
documented prominently.

  Use case.
If the two panes are full with folders and files, there is no empty area to
click on.
The remaining choices to switch between the two panes are then only shortcuts
or location bar.
  Question #166541

  Expected.
Allow unfocused location bar to be accessible again with mouse click.

[Bug 885913] [NEW] Arrow keys navigation broken since upgrade to 11.10

2011-11-03 Thread Ricardo Graça
Public bug reported:

Since the upgrade of Ubuntu from 11.04 to 11.10, navigating with the
arrow keys in nautilus has become much harder than it used to be since
it's no longer possible to use the right/left keys to navigate through
all the files. E.g. in icon view when selecting the first file in a row
and pressing the right arrow to go through all the files in that row,
when the last file in the row is selected, pressing right arrow key
again doesn't select the first file in the bottom row.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Set nautilus to icon view
2) Open a folder with enough files to display several rows of icons
3) Select the top left icon in the navigation panel
4) Press and hold the right arrow key

Expected results:
- Upon reaching the last icon in the row, the selection advances to the
leftmost icon in the row below the current one

Actual results:
- The selection is stuck on the rightmost icon of the current row

This causes great unnecessary effort to select files sequentially, as
now I have to press down when reaching the last icon in a row, and then
press the left key a great number of times, or keep it pressed.

[Bug 843268] Re: gnome-control-center doesn't allow to specify proxy exceptions

2011-11-03 Thread Mike Mestnik
A good start would be a bug database(perhaps a tag in launchpad and
bugs.d.o) with perhaps a wiki that would outline the current status and
issues with running behind a proxy. The main goal would help /new/
users in the trial and error department with a secondary goal to
identify how much work would be involved and where assistance is needed.

I should point out that at this time I'm no-longer behind a proxy,
however I am behind a NAT and this presents some of the same issues with
regard to how to establish in-bound connections. One question is to
decide is weather to include UPnP as a sort of proxy as it is a tool
that applications interested in creating network sockets may need to be
configured to use.

[Bug 843268] Re: gnome-control-center doesn't allow to specify proxy exceptions

2011-11-03 Thread Mike Mestnik
This is also an issue in Debian and I've attempted to create a task
force dedicated to assisting developers and packagers with maintaining
stable proxy support.

However there is at least one person, with no objections other then
myself, who believes that patches for proxy support should not be forced
onto the developers and packagers.

I believe that proxy support should be a release goal(for some release
after next) and failure to comply(that is to chose the best proxy patch
and apply it.. or else) should result to being pushed out of main...
into contrib perhaps.

[Bug 885896] [NEW] Can't combine multiple specific imapx accounts in a vfolder

2011-11-03 Thread Ferry Toth
Public bug reported:

Since the update of evolution to 3.2.0 (oneric) when you create a vfolder
(search folder) specific source folders are referred to using this syntax (as
added when you click on ):
folder:/INBOX.

When you are trying to combine multiple inboxes into one (and the filter
as you please) this syntax does not distinguish between different
accounts (as in previous versions).

As to be expected, it does not behave correctly and makes vfolder
useless is many cases.

This is a regression to evolution 2.32 (natty).

[Bug 881014] Re: terminal scrolling glitches

2011-11-03 Thread Len Fishler
Not sure if it is same, but am having scrolling glitches similar to
this, with similar work-around (ie. refresh cures it) using Unity 3D.
Problem goes away with Unity 2D. Problem manifests with all applications
tried that produce scroll-able window, also Chrome and Firefox browsers.
My system is an HP NC6000 laptop. When glitch occurs, sometimes a
rectangle is not redrawn, sometimes the shape is a torn rectangle (ie.
portion of rectangle got shifted up, portion not shifted, in middle of
window).

2011-11-03 Thread Phil V
Thanks for your bug report. I believe the package to report this against is
alsa-driver, not gnome-media. Could you please run the following command in a
terminal to attach relevant system information regarding your problem:

That information should enable someone more knowledgeable about the
alsa-driver to help you with your problem. In the meantime you may want

I am also affected by this issue. I use a Thinkpad T400 Model 6474-19G.
I updated from Natty 64Bit (Fn+F12 worked) to Oneiric 64Bit and since
the update Fn+F12 no longer works.

[Bug 828623] Re: [Regression] gnome control centre does not allow you to disable the laptop screen while leaving an external DisplayPort connected screen working

I was able to fix these symptoms by going into dconf and enabling the
xrandr plugin for gnome-settings-daemon, which for some reason had lots
of plugins get disabled after upgrading to oneiric.

[Bug 885845] [NEW] NO SOUND since updating Ubuntu 10.04.3LTS recent.

2011-11-03 Thread luis maceira
Public bug reported:

I installed Ubuntu 10.04.3 on a Dell Mini9 I tested and the sound was OK
without any problems then I did apt-get update apt-get upgrade and apt-
get dist-upgrade,and the sound has completely gone.I did this fresh
install because I had the exact same system and a recent upgrade or
dist-upgrade did the exact same thing. So,some thing went wrong with this
latest updates(since 10.04.3 Julay 2011),with the kernel itself or sound
related packages. It needs to be corrected by Ubuntu because NO DOUBT it
is "factory made".

[Bug 877556] Re: Calculation of Battery Power Consumsion was Mistake

2011-11-03 Thread calimocho
I've had this problem since 10.10. (Now on 11.10). It was just
annoying up to this point, but gnome3 only lets you hibernate or
shutdown for critical battery.

If I had to wager, I'd say the problem has to do with using the battery
remaning charge divided by the battery *designed* full capacity, not the
battery present full capacity. Batteries lose maximum charge hold over
time. My laptop is about 1.5 years old, and 'lshal | grep battery'
yields this:

battery.charge_level.design = 62160
battery.charge_level.last_full = 31646

When I get to about 40-50% of possible charge (maybe ~14000 in units
from above) the battery warnings start coming. I usually have 30 - 40
minutes (get about an hour and some change on a full charge).
14000/31646 = 40%. But if the *designed* capacity were used instead
14000/62160 = 22%, now we starting to get towards warning territory.

I can use the battery down until the hardware warning comes on ok, but
if i suspend and wake it with the battery at 50% (roughly) or lower, it
will immediately hibernate. I can then restore it, and it runs fine.

[Bug 885832] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashes when I close and re-open my laptop

2011-11-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Re: [Bug 567029] Re: Login failure loop with Ubuntu 10.04

2011-11-03 Thread eyeshavings
Tony,

I apologize that my skills in this area are nigh nil. I will forward this
to a friend (nalioth) that is very helpful. you may find him in an ubuntu
help chat. when he responds - i will send it to you and that will be more
likely to help than my following postulations.

If you don't hear back soon enough - here is my two cents...
What I would do, having looked at page 29 in the attached tech data - they
point out in the book the setting is not configurable. is see if updating
the VGA bios, if not System BIOS would be a good idea. I noticed also a
multi-display setting/utility that probably never intended to stand behind
an open-source OS, so an update probably won't help this issue. If I get
down to updating BIOS - I just figure it is out of date and replace. As
illustrated below - very little is accomplished in the time (over a year)
taken to brute force investigate an annoyance if I can get around the issue
and on with using my computer.

my experience with this bug was that I was beat. After experimenting with
BIOS settings one setting at a time and hoping I did not have to try
changing two settings at a time (and back again), once I found the problem,
I tried "just one more" setting that totally blanked the screen (zero VGA
share memory size). I was so blindy furious I just built a new system. I
had learned so much from what didn't work. I forgot something simple like
removing the CMOS battery resets the BIOS. I opted instead for shoving it
into another case for a little child genius that loved the experience and
made a new system for 400USD in parts. Word to the wise - make sure that
if your new motherboard has a separate CPU power header, that your power
supply has that connector, or at least the adapter. Gosh darn those guys
at Fry's. Now running ubuntu 11.10 64 bit.

Then I remembered the CMOS battery remove and count to 10 (sage advice
there) install new battery. I set everything back and upgraded to 11.04
and then 11.10 and everything worked with the maximum VGA memory share.

Hopefully you can hold out til I get aholta nalioth.

[Bug 885832] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon crashes when I close and re-open my laptop

2011-11-03 Thread Matt Fischer
Public bug reported:

When I close my laptop lid and re-open, gnome-settings-daemon segfaults.
I saw similar bugs filed, but on much older versions of this software,
so sorry if this is a dupe. When this service crashes I get an odd icon
set and my terminals go from a black background to a grey one.

I don't have another system to ssh into this one with so I cannot tell
whether the crash occurs when I close the lid or when I re-open it. I
have a fresh install of 11.10 with the most recent updates applied.

This is what my syslog looks like:

[Bug 843268] Re: gnome-control-center doesn't allow to specify proxy exceptions

2011-11-03 Thread Vadim Gutnik
I don't seem to even have a manual workaround. gconf-editor and dconf-editor
both seem to access similar (but not identical?) things, neither of which is
the same as what I get with System Settings->Network->Network proxy (which is
to say, I can
change the settings in any of the Ubuntu settings menu, dconf-editor, or
gconf-editor, but the changes aren't always reflected in the other two, and
only the Ubuntu menu seems to actually control what my web browser does.)

So, is there still a way to ignore hosts in 11.10 that works? I've tried
changing settings, restarting the browser, restarting network manager,
rebooting... and I still haven't found a way to make the web proxy
ignore specific hosts.

[Bug 885804] [NEW] "Always on Visible Workspace" lost intermittently...

2011-11-03 Thread Omega
Public bug reported:

It looks like when I tell an Empathy window to stay visible on all
workspaces, the instruction is sometimes lost. My best guess would be
whenever a new tab is added.

It would be nice if this setting would stop being forgotten every time I
add a chat as it's forcing me to re-pin the window each time. Also what
would be nice would be if pinned windows retained their pinning
preference after being closed for when they next open.

Part bug, part feature. But definitely a bug.

[Bug 878614] Re: Nautilus w. nvidia dual monitor (separate x screens) desktop crash.

2011-11-03 Thread Timo Eskola
I have the same problem with 2 screens with Sony Vaio (Ubuntu 11.10
32bit).

timo@vaio:~$ nvidia-settings -q screens

2 X Screens on vaio:0

[0] vaio:0.0 (GeForce GT 230M)

[1] vaio:0.1 (GeForce GT 230M)

The second screen has a white background. If I move mouse to the second
screen right click the white background I will get a segfault.

timo@vaio:~$ dmesg|tail -3

[Bug 885793] [NEW] .mkv videos don't play in Totem Ubuntu 11.10

2011-11-03 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 11.10, I can't play any .mkv videos in Totem. I don't get any

time stays 0:00 / 0:00 and the audio is automatically muted every time
I play any .mkv video.

[Bug 865791] Re: Pointer Speed settings have no effect on touchpad

I can confirm that not only the touch pad, but my mice aw well aren't
responding to changes made to speed and sensitivity in the System
Settings. Both 32 and 64 bit partitions running 11.10 have the same
issue.

[Bug 843268] Re: gnome-control-center doesn't allow to specify proxy exceptions

2011-11-03 Thread Reinis Ivanovs
The proxy settings were working fine before, but the latest changes have
caused nothing but grief. First was the issue of just finding the new
proxy setting GUI, since searching for "proxy" from the launcher or in
System Settings doesn't work. Then I've had to manually set the proxy
settings for Apt. Pidgin and Empathy still don't work over a proxy for
me. Now it's this issue with having to jump through hoops just to set
exceptions. It's not even clear how are the changes supposed to be an
improvement instead of just a regression. Ubuntu should not accept ill-
considered changes from upstream. I won't be recommending Ubuntu to
anyone anymore, since it can't be trusted no to regress long-standing
and important functionality in recommended updates.

This bug is also effecting me. The work around suggested eg type in something
is surely not acceptable. I like many others need to
be able to choose the whole group in an individual address book. Hope it is
fixed soon

[Bug 884597] Re: search as you type not working properly

2011-11-03 Thread John Watson
This isn't a duplicate of #857710. In that bug report, the backspace key
worked to erase characters in the search box. In this bug, the search
box keeps the previous search string and backspace doesn't work.
