[Bug 863154] Re: Wacom Bamboo One tablet random coordinate malfunctions

2011-11-06 Thread Douglas Griffin
@yorugecko:  Viewed the video at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuL2RGTnl1I. Could you be more specific
regarding what you mean by "a partial upgrade"? I seem to have the bug
over multiple desktop versions of Ubuntu 11.10 with GIMP and two Genius
Mousepad 8x6 tablets. For me the symptoms are least using XUBUNTU
desktop but still present. It takes me maybe a minute to 90 seconds for
it to show up drawing in pencil mode doing fast circles by hand. Could
you try scribbling for about three minutes just in pencil mode and see
what happens rather than jumping around different functions. If the
problem doesn't show up then give us a rundown on what you did to fix
it.

If you have a fix go over to www.davidrevoy.com and tell David so he can
test and post it on his blog. He is the art director for the Blender
Foundation and a lot of people in the computer graphics art community
are pulling their hair out over this. He has a setup for installing and
modifying Linux Mint ver. 11.04 to prevent having various annoying bugs.
See: http://www.davidrevoy.com/index.php?article95/linux-mint-11
-install-notes.

[Bug 887009] [NEW] 'man 1 gnome-keyring-daemon' is not informative

2011-11-06 Thread Detlef Lechner
Public bug reported:

'man 1 gnome-keyring-daemon' is not informative. It fulfills only the
requirement that thereis a manpage for this executable. But it gives not enough
information for a user to use this daemon intelligently and efficiently.
I expect that this manpage contains useful information for an intelligent usage
of gnome-keyring-daemon.

Unfortunately proxy support is currently lacking and there will likely
not be any solution.

implementation is inadequate. It's unclear if there will be any further

contained.

now I choose "system > lock screen" to get the screensaver (real lock), then in
order to prevent freezing I click ctrl+alt+f4 to get the command line.

unfortunately choosing "system > logout > switch user" will STILL show
my 'protected' desktop to less then a second before demanding a

[Bug 886982] [NEW] Scrolling doesn't respond immediately, then jumps

2011-11-06 Thread Michael Hueschen
Public bug reported:

Sudden touchpad scroll movement is not recognized for a quarter second
or so, then causes the page to jump. More specifically, when I swipe
with two fingers (as is my scroll setup - which works on all other parts
of the system), it is not immediately recognized. If I rest my fingers
on the touchpad first, and then move them, the viewer moves
appropriately (most of the time). The problem seems to be when the
fingers are swiped (they are moving when they hit the pad and the
movement is registered).

[Bug 886983] [NEW] properties panel should not show SELinux context information

2011-11-06 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Public bug reported:

Since Ubuntu uses AppArmor by default, the nautilus properties panel
shouldn't show the SELinux context information. This is technical
information that is useless to the user on a default Ubuntu
installation.

We could simply remove selinux from the debian/control file, which would
remove all SELinux integration in nautilus, or we could figure out at
nautilus runtime if selinux or apparmor is actually loaded in the
kernel. We could also simply not display the field if the value is
"Unknown".

[Bug 833397] Re: indicator power displayed twice on panel

2011-11-06 Thread Prabhjot
I second #64.
I tried searching hours and hours for a way to blacklist a particular
application. But all in vain. Couldn't even find the syntax to be used for
making an exception for a particular application. Even tried hit and trial.
Something like:

gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['all',
!'skype']"

or ~'skype'.

I'd call it mere shortsightedness.

[Bug 886667] Re: boot moves desktop icons

2011-11-06 Thread Phil V
Thanks for attaching the information. Unfortunately I was unable to
reproduce this on a virtualbox installation and on my laptop, but
hopefully someone else with a similar hardware and/or software
configuration to yourself can reproduce this. I wish I could help more,
but I'm actually not that familiar with nautilus. Now that the correct
package is targeted and the appropriate system information is attached,
though, someone more familiar with nautilus should be able to help you
further.

[Bug 886947] [NEW] Totem Download Movie Subtitles hangs on loading the subtitles

2011-11-06 Thread mambro
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: 11.10
Totem version: 3.0.1-0ubuntu5

Step to reproduce:

1) Active the plugin "Subtitle Downloader"
2) Open a movie with totem
3) View > Subtitles > Download movie Subtitles
4) Select one from the list
5) Totem hangs

On the console the error is
Traceback (most recent call last):

I attach a patch to solve the problem (to apply to

[Bug 787465] Re: View->Show MenuBar isn't working in 11.04 and later in gnome-terminal

2011-11-06 Thread Russell Neches
Ugh. I loathe global menus, but I don't want a menubar on my terminal.

Could we maybe just have a dialog box pop up when you uncheck "show menu
bar" explaining that if you remove the menu, you'll have to get it back
by alt-clicking, or running something in the command line, or whatever?

I think it's safe to assume that if a user wants a terminal and doesn't
want a menu bar, that we can probably relax the "usability requirements"
a little. This might not be the best approach for, say, Evolution, but
this is the terminal. If you want to muck around in the terminal, you'd
better know what you're doing anyway.

[Bug 886936] [NEW] /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/gtk-2.0 empty

2011-11-06 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I am desperately trying to get an external commercial Linux program
(Bibble5) run under Oneiric, which was still working under Natty.

One of the problems is that the program tries to find the 32 bit
libraries under /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/gtk-2.0, which is effectively
empty. The machine therefore links against the 64 bit versions, which
results in a crash.

Interestingly, dpkg shows

% dpkg -S /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/gtk-2.0
libgtk2.0-0:i386: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/gtk-2.0

a package called libgtk2.0-0:i386

Does dpkg now support packages of different architectures?

However, it was working with Natty, and it does not with Oneiric.
Something went wrong between Natty and Oneiric.

regards

[Bug 774250] Re: Can not pair with a Bluetooth device that needs a fixed PIN

2011-11-06 Thread James Bass
It does not seem to be fixed, at least on my two x86_64 Oneiric
installs. I can choose PIN Options Fixed Pin '', OR enter a custom
pin, and it ONLY works ***IF*** you chose the "PIN options" FIRST, THEN
select the device, otherwise, if the device is selected first, it will
never work, at least on my two installs of Oneiric.

This can be reproduced every time on my systems.

new fix breaks different things to before. For my machine I've
recompiled gnome-settings-daemon to get rid of the problem. If anyone
else wants to do the same, the offending shortcut is in acme.h, search
for VIDEO_OUT_KEY.

[Finding this file reminded me that media key handling used to be in a
standalone program called acme. It's a shame that gnome moved away from
providing simple standalone programs that could be taken in isolation.]

[Bug 849110] Re: Regression: keyboard backlight hotkeys no longer work

2011-11-06 Thread Roland-pastorino
I have also a Macbook Pro 3.1 with Ubuntu 11.10. I can control the
brightness using the 3 keys (up/down/toggle) but the behavior is not the
right one. The up key works properly. The down key decreases the
brightness as expected but when the brightness is set to 0%, there is no
backlight (as expected) and the screen indicator says that the
brightness is 100% (this is not correct). The toggle key has exactly the
same behavior as the down key instead of toggling the brightness.

[Bug 886667] Re: boot moves desktop icons

2011-11-06 Thread James Luscher
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected oneiric running-unity

** Description changed:

I arrange non-overlapping icons on my desktop for tasks that I am working on
or files I want to read later.
When I boot the next time the bottom 'row' of icons are moved upwards, on top
of icons above them, making it difficult to work with them.
This is a 'polish' bug - reducing the predictable usability of Unity. I can
'work around it' by moving files/folders off of the desktop but it isn't the
way I find 'natural' (for me) to treat a "desktop" - I expect the things on my
"desk" will remain where I left them the previous time I was working there ;-)

[Bug 886911] [NEW] Crash when middle-clicking a folder on the desktop

2011-11-06 Thread Nicolas Delvaux
Public bug reported:

As the title state, nautilus crash when I middle-click a folder which is

I expected one of these behaviour:
- Open the folder in a new window
- Open the folder in a new tab of an existing nautilus window and focus it.

Just in case I'm missing something I'm going to reboot now. It is possible
that the code you asked me to authorize is intended to capture data from
booting, the next time it happens(?).

Anyway, I'm glad to help you figure out what is going on. (within my
abilities ;-)

[Bug 694910] Re: Regression: patch to bug 539477 breaks Super+P keybindings

2011-11-06 Thread Iain Murray
I just wasted a bunch more time because of this bug. The xrandr plugin to
gnome-settings-daemon is now configured in dconf not in gconf:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/68463/how-to-disable-global-super-p-shortcut
Because there's no option to stop the keybinding being stolen, one still has to
disable it entirely.

[Bug 592082] Re: Evince crashes with SIGSEGV in ev_metadata_get_string

2011-11-06 Thread Harrison Neal
I experience this crash as well, using evince 2.30.3-0ubuntu1.2 on
Ubuntu 10.04 (not upgraded from a previous installation). The system
uses LDAP for authentication (a server beyond my control, BTW), and this
error occurs with some users but not others. Errors reported on the
console and stack trace are virtually identical to that originally
described by the original reporter (aside from my system being in US
English).

The suggestion by Superna fails with:

@ubuntu:~$ touch .gnome2/evince/last_settings
touch: cannot touch `.gnome2/evince/last_settings': No such file or directory

On closer inspection, the directory ~/.gnome2/evince doesn't exist.
Creating the directory ~/.gnome2/evince followed by the touch command
succeeds, and evince appears to work. However, mucking around with a
command line shouldn't be necessary for a simple PDF viewer to function.
Reopening the bug.

Please be aware that it is NOT possible to check on this system if a
newer version of evince (e.x. that of a newer Ubuntu release) would
function properly - the video card in this system is antiquated and
can't properly run X in newer versions of Ubuntu.

[Bug 886898] [NEW] More file handling functions in Eye of GNOME

2011-11-06 Thread Mikael Ståldal
Public bug reported:

In the image viewer Eye of GNOME, the file handling options are very
limited. You can only Move to trash and copy (by using "Save as..."
which is a bit non-obvious).

Make all file handling functions in Nautilus (those you find on the
context menu for a file) in Eye Of GNOME. This includes Cut (to move the
file), Copy (to copy the file), Create link, Rename, Delete (if
activated in Nautilus preferences) and change file attributes.

(I posted this as an idea on Brainstorm, but it was rejected there and I was
told to file a bug instead, so here it is

I'm testing evolution on oneiric to see if I can upgrade from maverick.
After the installation I unistalled thunderbird and installed Evolution.
Yet now the mail icon in Unity menu bar merely contains the status
entries, chat, microblogging, Ubuntu One and a reset entry. I believe
when I tested Natty evolution did actually show up. I installed
Evolution from the Software Center, and found no other addon for untiy
integration, so I suppose it should be there by default or is something
missing in the Software-Center configuration?

[Bug 879632] Re: 'quick open' and 'file browser panel' conflict

2011-11-06 Thread Robert Toscano
Looking at gedit(3.2) code, it should have the send_sync function:

http://git.gnome.org/browse/gedit/tree/gedit/Gedit.py?h=gnome-3-2

Maybe Gedit.py is not being loaded or something. Does anyone know if
there is a separate bug in the gnome project for this?

Atm the link seems better then having to continually advise many upgraders to
edit ~/...mimeapps.list

If the duped "Files" is an issue then maybe just add a 'real' nautilus-
folder-handler.desktop, it could be set to NoDisplay=true, it's Name=
could be anything, doesn't matter. (Folders

(Not actually sure why users need to see Files , (nautilus.desktop), in
the first place, unless that's some concession to gnome* sessions?

[Bug 882956] Re: [Oneiric] [Dell XPS M1330] Gnome session dies at resume

2011-11-06 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
I'm normally more of a KDE user (and I went back to KDE because of this
error, among other issues and dislikes I have with Gnome).

However I've been back to Gnome for testing this issue, and have to say
that since latest updates, I've been unable to reproduce the Gnome crash
at system wake up. (I've done it only 5-6 times without a crash, where
previously it would crash most, if not all, the times).

- I've tried without the above script, so the conditions are the same as
before (except for the DM maybe ? I'm back to KDM...), and would have
nothing more to report anyway as I couldn't observe the crash.

So I'm not sure whether the issue is still there or has been fixed ? I
will try again for a while and let you know.

[Bug 820545] [NEW] "Add Event" on messaging menu just launches Evolution calender

2011-11-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Version - 11.04 64-bit
Not sure what package Time Menu is in, though it may be an Evolution bug

What I did - Open Time Menu, select a date and press "New Event"
What I expected - Evolution "New Event" dialog would open, already set to date
selected on Time Menu Calender
What happened - Evolution calender opened, no "New event" dialog and the
calender was not even set to the date I had picked

This is important because the calender allows you to pick a date before
you click "New Event" (with the default date set to today). If the "New
Event" function only opens Evolution calender in a generic way, the
selectable date calender becomes useless and so the whole thing seems
unprofessional.

[Bug 886842] Re: Aucune connexion possible à hotmail

2011-11-06 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
