[Bug 880703] Re: Accepting calendar invitations fails with "Unable to send item to calendar ''. No such interface `org.gnome.evolution.dataserver.Calendar' on object at path /org/gnome/

[Bug 890555] [NEW] Alt stopped working as Meta in gnome-terminal with gtk+3.0 3.2.2-0ubuntu1
Public bug reported: My Alt key no longer acts as Meta in gnome-terminal on my precise system as of today. So for example in bash, Alt+b no longer moves back a word, Alt+Backspace no longer deletes a word, etc. These keystrokes now act as if Alt was not pressed. Other libvte-based terminals like xfce4-terminal are not affected. I traced this to the upload of gtk+3.0 3.2.2-0ubuntu1. After downgrading libgtk-3-0, libgail-3-0, libgail-3-common, gir1.2-gtk-3.0, libgtk-3-bin from 3.2.2-0ubuntu1 to 3.2.0-0ubuntu3 and restarting gnome- terminal, the problem goes away. [Bug 890441] [NEW] nautilus memory leak
Public bug reported: There are other bug reports with this description, but they are either 3-4 years old, or closed, or invalid, or expired. I'm not doing anything exotic, but after about an hour or two of using my system (not even copying or moving files, or thumbnailing, or...) memory usage in nautilus goes up to 1.4G or so. When I kill this task, re-launch nautilus, it sits happily on just a few hundred meg... and then begins to grow again. It also takes a LONG time to start up, and the system is very unresponsive meanwhile... like 20 seconds. This may be a useful clue? I tried to do a valgrind report, but it makes nautilus so slow as to be unusable -- like 2 minutes to open a folder on the desktop... so I couldn't exactly "use it normally" to get a good log. Nonetheless, here's a log I did capture. I trust that the data captured by ubuntu-bug will have my library versions, cpu type, RAM info, etc. Please let me know what else I can provide. Thanks! [Bug 32194] Re: no way to set order of startup programs
** Description changed: in gnome-session-properties 2.13.91-0ubuntu1, there is no way to set the order that startup program will launch. The list items are not drag/drop capable, nor is there a "move up"/"move down" button combination on the Startup Programs tab. When Adding/Editing a startup program, there is no option to specify a starting order (used to have a number fiedl defaulted to 50 in breezy). On top of this, the order I add startup programs in isn't maintained. If I add mail-notification, compiz, and gnome-window-decorator, the next time I log in they will be listed in this order instead: compiz; mail-notification; gnome-window-decorator. So it's not even resorting them in alphabetical order! But it does re- arrange them into the same order every time. + + See also bug 148605. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/32194 Title: no way to set order of startup programs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-session/+bug/32194/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 148605] Re: gnome starts all startup programs at once
** Description changed: - Binary package hint: gnome-session - - Hello! This is about Ubuntu Gutsy, though it applies to every distro - that uses Gnome. I've attached it to gnome-session, though I'm not sure - there's where the change must go. - - The problem is that Gnome starts all "startup" applications at once - after login. I have many applications I use virtually all the time, some - of which are relatively heavyweight. This includes, for instance, Skype - and Pidgin, though it could very well include Firefox too. There are - many applets and tools that are installed by default, too. All of them - I'd like started automatically (ie, I'll start them anyway, so why - should I have to remember and do this by hand), so they're very much - perfect candidates for the auto-start trick. + Gnome starts all "startup" applications at once after login. I have many + applications I use virtually all the time, some of which are relatively + heavyweight. This includes, for instance, Skype and Pidgin, though it + could very well include Firefox too. There are many applets and tools + that are installed by default, too. All of them I'd like started + automatically (ie, I'll start them anyway, so why should I have to + remember and do this by hand), so they're very much perfect candidates + for the auto-start trick. Of course, I can do that right now using the gnome-session-properties applet. There's just one problem: Since Gnome starts all of them at once, immediately after log-in, I can't use my desktop for at least a minute after the login. The fact that I need these apps opened all the time _doesn't_ mean that I need them right away. Even if I did need them right away, I couldn't use them until they all start, since the startup thrashes the disk too much. So I propose adding an option for delayed, low-priority startup. Almost none of the apps are needed right away, so it might actually make sense to use the trick for all of them. The idea is to have a "slow-start" option. A startup application that has this enabled would (a) be started a little after startup, say 30 seconds later, when the initial disk-thrashing has stopped and the user already started working, and (b) the app would be started niced to a low priority, and raised to the normal priority 30 seconds later. The two approaches can be combined, but any of them would help by itself. Also, the low-priority processes could be staggered by 10 seconds or so, to prevent disturbing the user. Examples of apps that can take advantage of this, in approximate order they should be started in: - the network manager - every communication app, like Pidgin or Skype - some of the panel applets, like the deskbar and even the task&workspace switchers - the power manager, print manager, and volume manager - evolution's and other mail/alarm notifiers - tracker, beagle and similar things - All of these are needed all the time, but not right away. I've tried doing this (actually, just part b) by changing the start-up commands to something like 'bash -c "delay 30; pidgin', and it works OK as far as starting up goes. However, the (many) bash processes are kind- of heavy-weight, and they remain active the entire session. This also tends to clog up the process list, and it's a bit confusing. Something done directly in the start-up object would work much better. + + See also bug 32194. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148605 Title: gnome starts all startup programs at once To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/148605/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
