[Bug 880703] Re: Accepting calendar invitations fails with "Unable to send item to calendar ''. No such interface `org.gnome.evolution.dataserver.Calendar' on object at path /org/gnome/

2011-11-14 Thread Damian Only
Even if I try to add the event to my personal, and off-line calendar, I
get the same error. Is not only a problem with Google Calendar.

As a temporary solution, killing the e-calendar-factory process and
restarting Evolution makes possible to a accept invitations again.

[Bug 890555] [NEW] Alt stopped working as Meta in gnome-terminal with gtk+3.0 3.2.2-0ubuntu1

2011-11-14 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Public bug reported:

My Alt key no longer acts as Meta in gnome-terminal on my precise system
as of today. So for example in bash, Alt+b no longer moves back a word,
Alt+Backspace no longer deletes a word, etc. These keystrokes now act
as if Alt was not pressed.

Other libvte-based terminals like xfce4-terminal are not affected.

I traced this to the upload of gtk+3.0 3.2.2-0ubuntu1. After
downgrading libgtk-3-0, libgail-3-0, libgail-3-common, gir1.2-gtk-3.0,
libgtk-3-bin from 3.2.2-0ubuntu1 to 3.2.0-0ubuntu3 and restarting gnome-
terminal, the problem goes away.

to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

[Bug 665552] Re: CTRL-C does not work in irc chat window

I am experiencing this bug with all chat windows under 11.10, Unity, with

Often the 'copy' option under the right-click menu does not work either.

This is a very frustrating bug when you often have people sending you
details (like server addresses, and code blocks) which need to be copied
somewhere locally.

[Bug 879528] Re: Displays utility doesn't offer to use nvidia-settings with proprietary drivers installed?

2011-11-14 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
The fglrx proprietary driver supports XRandR 1.2, so the Displays
capplet will (should) work for it.

The nvidia binary driver does *not* support XRandR 1.2, so (as Daniel
notes) the Displays capplet will not work properly (specifically, it
won't do any multihead or external display setup) with the nvidia binary
driver.

[Bug 890071] Re: Nautilus won't open from "Places" menu

There is no stacktrace because nautilus does not crash. It just doesn't
start when opening it from the Places menu or the Cairo dock.

Nautilus seems to work fine for other users. Moving
~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list away does nothing to fix the
issue.

[Bug 658004] Re: brasero claims dvd image is too large for disc

2011-11-14 Thread David Balažic
Why is this marked with importance "Low"?
Certain data sets can not be written at all due to this bug.

>From https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance :

Low: Bugs which affect functionality, but to a lesser extent than most
bugs, examples are:

Bugs that have easy work-arounds

Bugs that affect unusual end-user configurations or uncommon hardware
Bugs that affect a non-essential aspect and limited scope of the application
Bugs that have a moderate impact on a non-core application
Cosmetic/usability issues that does not limit the functionality of a non-core
application
Non-ideal default configurations

None of this applies.

Besides, the fix is trivial. What should be done to have it committed as
soon as possible?

[Bug 530542] Re: Nautilus window quits on unmounting [when partition is launched from places menu]

2011-11-14 Thread The Bright Side
This bug occurs again in Ubuntu 11.10, 64 bit, Nautilus 3.2.1. I am
running Gnome Shell.

Steps:
1. Insert USB device or mount NTFS partition of hard disk
2. Open Nautilus
3. Click on "Eject" icon next to device

The following behaviours are observed:
a) The USB device (not hard drive partitions) is unmounted and then disappears
from the Devices list
b) Nautilus exits immediately upon clicking the "eject" icon

Reproduced: 5/10

fix for this, which for an LTS must meet the Stable Release Update (SRU)

introducing potential regressions in other areas.

[Bug 887189] Re: gnome-panel crashed with SIGABRT in __kernel_vsyscall()

2011-11-14 Thread Bryce Harrington
As per my comment on bug #507062, unduping this bug until more
definitive evidence can be gathered that this is the same bug; apport
unfortunately could not get a proper stacktrace for this one. Would you
mind collecting one by hand via gdm? I think that would probably help.
Or, if you could elaborate on how you're concluding it's the same bug,
that might help.

Also, bug #507062 appears to be tripping a Launchpad bug (it repeatedly
OOPSes for me), so if this is a dupe it will be very hard to work on it
on that bug report.

[Bug 889479] Re: Not possible to reconfigure Alt-F1 and Alt-F2 shortcuts

2011-11-14 Thread Aleksander Śmierciak
I see and understand that there are probably more.
What I do not understand is why allowing full configurability isn't desired,
especially that it shouldn't prove to be dangerous and/or difficult for users
(the new ones usually don't tamper with configuration panels at all).

** Description changed:

When in desktop point at Rubbish Bin.
Right click shows contextual drop-down menu.
  "Empty the rubbish" item appears.
When this item is clicked on, nothing happens.
The drop down list remains even when the pointer is moved.
To empty the bin I had to open it then select the option from the window.

[Bug 890441] [NEW] nautilus memory leak

2011-11-14 Thread MFeif
Public bug reported:

There are other bug reports with this description, but they are either
3-4 years old, or closed, or invalid, or expired.

I'm not doing anything exotic, but after about an hour or two of using
my system (not even copying or moving files, or thumbnailing, or...)
memory usage in nautilus goes up to 1.4G or so. When I kill this task,
re-launch nautilus, it sits happily on just a few hundred meg... and
then begins to grow again.

It also takes a LONG time to start up, and the system is very
unresponsive meanwhile... like 20 seconds. This may be a useful clue?

I tried to do a valgrind report, but it makes nautilus so slow as to be
unusable -- like 2 minutes to open a folder on the desktop... so I
couldn't exactly "use it normally" to get a good log. Nonetheless,
here's a log I did capture.

I trust that the data captured by ubuntu-bug will have my library
versions, cpu type, RAM info, etc. Please let me know what else I can
provide. Thanks!

[Bug 724262] Re: ubuntu 10.10 Log Out by itself

2011-11-14 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Unfortunately, this bug report doesn't contain enough information for a
developer to fix anything. If you can find a reliable way to get from a
brand-new installation of Ubuntu to the situation where this bug occurs,
please add those steps and reopen the report.

If Ubuntu appears to log out while you are using it, that usually means
X has crashed. If it happens again, log in again, open a terminal, and
enter "ubuntu-bug xorg" to report the problem.

appears when you press the power button, or when you choose "Log Out",
or something else?

If the problem still exists, please provide steps to reproduce it, and a
screenshot if possible. Thanks.

[Bug 881880] [NEW] Connecting/disconnecting external monitors changes colored background to black

2011-11-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I disconnect or connect an external monitor from my laptop, and
have my background set to a solid color, the background color of my
desktop changes to black.

To reproduce:

1) Open appearance settings dialog
2) Change from "Wallpapers" to "Colors and Gradients"
3) Choose a color
4) Connect or disconnect an external monitor
5) Observe screen change to black background

This does *not* happen with a picture as the background (i.e. when
choosing an image from the "Wallpaper" or "Pictures" selections).

[Bug 877256] Re: Can't open ".war" format since Oneiric (java)

2011-11-14 Thread Kevin
I got "kdelibs5-data: /usr/share/mime/packages/kde.xml" too.

kdelibs5-data is required for kate and kompare.

After removing kdelibs5-data and double-clicking on a war, I got an
error message box saying

Could not display "file name"
There is no application installed for application/x-webarchive type files

It has two buttons which are "Select Application" and "OK"

I clicked "Select Application" and selected "Archive Manager". It opens the war
file without any problem.
However, I need "kate" and "kompare" so installed these again and the problem
is back again.

Is there any way to have these tools without having any problem with
opening war files?

[Bug 32194] Re: no way to set order of startup programs

2011-11-14 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
** Description changed:

in gnome-session-properties 2.13.91-0ubuntu1, there is no way to set the
order that startup program will launch. The list items are not drag/drop
capable, nor is there a "move up"/"move down" button combination on the
Startup Programs tab. When Adding/Editing a startup program, there is no
option to specify a starting order (used to have a number fiedl
defaulted to 50 in breezy). On top of this, the order I add startup
programs in isn't maintained. If I add mail-notification, compiz, and
gnome-window-decorator, the next time I log in they will be listed in
this order instead: compiz; mail-notification; gnome-window-decorator.
So it's not even resorting them in alphabetical order! But it does re-
arrange them into the same order every time.

[Bug 148605] Re: gnome starts all startup programs at once

2011-11-14 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: gnome-session
-
- Hello! This is about Ubuntu Gutsy, though it applies to every distro
- that uses Gnome. I've attached it to gnome-session, though I'm not sure
- there's where the change must go.
-
- The problem is that Gnome starts all "startup" applications at once
- after login. I have many applications I use virtually all the time, some
- of which are relatively heavyweight. This includes, for instance, Skype
- and Pidgin, though it could very well include Firefox too. There are
- many applets and tools that are installed by default, too. All of them
- I'd like started automatically (ie, I'll start them anyway, so why
- should I have to remember and do this by hand), so they're very much
- perfect candidates for the auto-start trick.
+ Gnome starts all "startup" applications at once after login. I have many
+ applications I use virtually all the time, some of which are relatively
+ heavyweight. This includes, for instance, Skype and Pidgin, though it
+ could very well include Firefox too. There are many applets and tools
+ that are installed by default, too. All of them I'd like started
+ automatically (ie, I'll start them anyway, so why should I have to
+ remember and do this by hand), so they're very much perfect candidates
+ for the auto-start trick.

Of course, I can do that right now using the gnome-session-properties
  applet.

There's just one problem: Since Gnome starts all of them at once,
immediately after log-in, I can't use my desktop for at least a minute
after the login. The fact that I need these apps opened all the time
_doesn't_ mean that I need them right away. Even if I did need them
right away, I couldn't use them until they all start, since the startup
  thrashes the disk too much.

So I propose adding an option for delayed, low-priority startup. Almost
none of the apps are needed right away, so it might actually make sense
to use the trick for all of them.

The idea is to have a "slow-start" option. A startup application that
has this enabled would (a) be started a little after startup, say 30
seconds later, when the initial disk-thrashing has stopped and the user
already started working, and (b) the app would be started niced to a low
priority, and raised to the normal priority 30 seconds later. The two
approaches can be combined, but any of them would help by itself. Also,
the low-priority processes could be staggered by 10 seconds or so, to
  prevent disturbing the user.

Examples of apps that can take advantage of this, in approximate order they
should be started in:
  - the network manager
  - every communication app, like Pidgin or Skype
  - some of the panel applets, like the deskbar and even the task&workspace
switchers
  - the power manager, print manager, and volume manager
  - evolution's and other mail/alarm notifiers
  - tracker, beagle and similar things

-
All of these are needed all the time, but not right away.

I've tried doing this (actually, just part b) by changing the start-up
commands to something like 'bash -c "delay 30; pidgin', and it works OK
as far as starting up goes. However, the (many) bash processes are kind-
of heavy-weight, and they remain active the entire session. This also
tends to clog up the process list, and it's a bit confusing. Something
done directly in the start-up object would work much better.
