[Bug 897088] [NEW] Rhythmbox freezes when skipping in flac songs

2011-11-27 Thread Scaramanga
Public bug reported:

Clicking on the song progress bar in Rhythmbox freezes the program if
the song playing is a flac file. Sometimes I have to click a few times

Rhythmbox has frozen.

I also tested with ogg and mp3 files and there is no freeze with those.

will create a patch for this.

Not only empathy ,but even google chrome doesnt pick the proxy
settings.Guess if you are making major changes to the way the external
programs are picking up the settings, the ubuntu development should have
notified the respective teams or you should have taken care not to break
anything.

Ubuntu release by release is loosing its fame !!!

Whenever I change work space and then try to approach the launcher I get
the window snap orange box on the left side of the screen when I don't
even have a a window being dragged at it, then the orange box stays
there until I grab a window and then snap it. This seems to happen
whenever I change work space and immediately try to use the launcher.
This is Ubuntu 11.10.

[Bug 138586] Re: Gnometris controls very unresponsive when keys are held down

2011-11-27 Thread Tomas Pospisek
There was a playable tetris game for the TI calculator like 20 years
ago.

But still someone has managed to have Gnome ship a version of that game
since 2007 that isn't even playable on 2011's supercomputers.

The culmination of social hacking!

Even Excel Tetris on an Arduino beats the crap out of this
implementation performance wise. Hilarious!

[Bug 396226] Re: GDM logs out after some minutes of typing on the keyboard

2011-11-27 Thread Bruno França dos Reis
I see the exact same symptoms in Oneiric x64:

 - it happens once every boot, after a few minutes;
 - it happens systematically right when I press the Enter key (not the first
time, don't know if it is always at the N-th time);
 - tty1 gets lots of crap (not always the same characters, but always the same
pattern, and it is the same pattern as in the original bug report)

I noticed that before the crash X is at "ctrl+alt+f7", and after the
crash it goes to "ctrl+alt+f8".

I don't know how to add "Oneiric" to the list of affected distributions
in the top of this page. I tried to do so by linking a branch without
success.

You have been subscribed to a public bug by Gretha (g-r-e-cramer):

System: Ubuntu 11.10 with both gnome desktop and xfce desktop
installed, fully updated

Start the system as Xubuntu, that is, with the xfce desktop

When selecting Applications Menu > Games > Mines (gnomine)

- two instances of the gnomine process are launched simultaneously
- the application does not remember its most recent display settings (that is,
size of the application on the screen on the previous exit)
- specifically, on every start-up gnomine appears as a diminutive application
with tiny buttons, the smallest screen rendering of the game available.

application ran properly without any problems (one process instance, and
remembering its size on screen on exit).

[Bug 629646] Re: Locations using bom.gov.au for forecast data no longer can no longer retrieve forecast data

2011-11-27 Thread Evan Broder
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
libgweather is unable to parse the HTML data previously returned from the
Australian Bureau of Meteorology

  [Development Fix]
  Fix committed upstream as a80552f51c641754ef8410eebea6debc23a25561,
73829e640d2ebd7f926563145ca81702c17d0abb. Picked up in 3.2.1-1ubuntu1

  [Stable Fix]
  Debdiffs attached for Lucid
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgweather/+bug/629646/+attachment/2610674/+files/libgweather_2.30.0-0ubuntu1.1.debdiff),
 Maverick
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgweather/+bug/629646/+attachment/2610675/+files/libgweather_2.30.3-0ubuntu1.1.debdiff),
 Natty
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgweather/+bug/629646/+attachment/2610676/+files/libgweather_2.30.3-1ubuntu1.1.debdiff),
 and Oneiric
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgweather/+bug/629646/+attachment/2610677/+files/libgweather_3.2.0-0ubuntu1.1.debdiff)

  [Test Case]
+ 1. Login using a session with the gnome-panel (Ubuntu for Lucid, Maverick;
Ubuntu Classic for Natty; GNOME Classic on Oneiric)
+ 2. Right-click on the panel (Alt-right click for Oneiric) and select Add to
Panel...
+ 3. Choose the Weather Report applet and add it to the panel
+ 4. Right click on the weather applet and choose preferences
+ 5. Go to the Location tab
+ 6. Search for and select "Sydney Airport", then close the preferences window
+ 7. Left-click on the weather applet
+ 8. Click "Update" from the details tab
+ 9. Switch to the "Forecast" tab, and observe that the forecast is not
available (or is, with the patch)

  [Regression Potential]
Minimal. The patch is isolated, only changes parsing for the affected region
(AU), and cherry-picked from upstream

  ===
  Original bug description:
  ---
  Issue Description
  ---

In relation to "weather-applet" and "libgweather" - over the past
several months, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has updated
its website to deliver a HTML forecast page for a number of locations
  around Australia.

Currently - the tag from "Locations.xml" is used within the
"weather-bom.c" to retrieve information from the appropriate bom.gov.au
URL which if successful is then parsed in the "bom_parse" function.

With the new HTML forecast pages for various locations however, the data
can not be successfully parsed and instead the message "Forecast not
currently available for this location." shows up on the Forecast tab of
  weather-applet.

  ---
  Area of Interest
  ---

Within "weather-bom.c" - the following line of code points to URLs
(depending on location) that now have HTML forecast data rather than
  plain text...

  url = g_strdup_printf ("http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?%s.txt";,
    loc->zone + 1);

  ---
  Suggested Fix
  ---

I suggest/propose that the URL above be changed to point to plain text
documents on the BOM FTP server (ftp://ftp2.bom.gov.au/anon/gen/fwo/)
with the appropriate weather station zone.

e.g. for Sydney (Zone IDN10064) - currently the code would point to:

  http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDN10064.txt

However this is now a HTML forecast, which causes the issue noted
above... by pointing the code to:

  ftp://ftp2.bom.gov.au/anon/gen/fwo/IDN10064.txt

The plain text forecast can be used without any modification to the
  other functions/aspects of the code.

  ---
  Patches - Untested!
  ---

Please see the attached "weather-bom.c" which includes the suggested fix
(i.e. patched version). Note it will need to be/should be tested by
someone who knows how to recompile the libgweather source.

[Bug 838543] Re: False battery warning +suspend

2011-11-27 Thread Mari
So mine has started shutting down COMPLETELY when it disconnects. For a
while it stopped going into hibernate every time it got unplugged, which
was great, but now it's even worse than before. And even more incredibly
annoying, since my charger does not like to stay in.

[Bug 896986] [NEW] "Copy file's location" menu item in file chooser dialog uses tick mark instead of apostrophe

2011-11-27 Thread Jay S
Public bug reported:

Title should be self-explanatory. When in a file chooser dialog, right-
clicking on a file displays a menu containing a command called "Copy
file's location". The "apostrophe" in "file's" is actually a tick mark
when it should be a true apostrophe.

[Bug 614848] Re: Relative Network Bandwidth

2011-11-27 Thread Robert Roth
I don't think it's possible to find the internet connection bandwidth,
so showing the bandwidth relative to the maximum value measured so far
seems the best solution. We could use the bandwidth of the network card
and display values relative to that, but network cards are usually
100Mb/s or 1000Gb/s, and the internet speed is usually lower, and in
case of 1000Gb/s cards, the internet usage would be almost 0% of the
1000Gb, so it would not be really useful neither.

So maybe storing the maximum speed used so far would help a bit, and
showing everything relative to that. So each time your network load is
higher then a current maximum stored, the maximum would get saved, so
after you have fully used your 4Mbps bandwidth for the first time you
would get the behavior you requested. What do you think?

[Bug 882307] Re: [list-view] After copying text from a rename entry, file copy menus items are broken

2011-11-27 Thread Wolfgang Kufner
@Pedro, Joao
Should the upstream bug be closed (invalidated?) since this seems to happen
only in Ubuntu? Just to prevent Ubuntu developers from waiting for upstream
while upstream sees nothing to do. Also, maybe the importance should be higher
(medium?) for a bug in something as basic as file management?

I could only reproduce this bug with Ubuntu (e.g. current Precise live
system or my installed 11.10). Neither Mint 12 nor Fedora 16 show this
bug.

@ Joao
Thanks for filing this bug. I was totally mystified why I could not paste till
I read the specifics in your report.

[Bug 396010] Re: Different units/percentage in hints of the meters

2011-11-27 Thread Robert Roth
Showing the percentage and raw unit for each graph is problematic, because:
1: CPU usage is expressed in percentage, and as far as I know, when the 2400MHz
CPU usage is at 10%, it's not 240MHz, so displaying raw units doesn't seem
appropriate for me.
2,4: As the Memory and Swap are displayed on the same graph, but they often
have different sizes, showing percentage seems to be the best to address this.
3 For the Network load showing percentage is problematic, as we don't know
what's 100% network usage, we can't easily find the network bandwidth, there's
another bug reported for this, see bug #614848.
5. For load averages, we could show the percentage (value*100) but there's no
raw unit to display here neither.
6. Hard drive usage is shown both with raw value and percentage (e.g. Used :
20.6 GB 57%)

How do you think we could address these issues?

[Bug 761478] Re: Enhancement: Prompt to check a busy file system on next reboot

2011-11-27 Thread Daniel Ellis
I have just tried this on Ubuntu 10.04 and 11.10 and both systems
automatically remove the /forcefsck file after the reboot.

I haven't found any official documentation for this file yet, so my
concern is whether the behavior of this file is distribution specific.

It would be great if this method is standard amongst distributions, then
I think this would be a suitable solution.

[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment

2011-11-27 Thread Bhaavan Merchant
Sorry, I didnt want to sound accusatory or anything. But for me, the
reason I switched to linux was the ability to customize it for me. This
Unity is taking more and more of it away from me. From this 11.10
release of Ubuntu, to get my controls on my right, ill need to change
theme. For this, ill need to use a gnome-tweak-tool, which will install
gnome3 shell as dependency. So to get my unity correct, ill need to go
install gnome-shell which was the main thing unity wished to avoid.

My preferred solution would be have a drop down asking user to choose between
right and left controls where theme is being selected.
Alternatively, something like a config file in /etc where i just change the
value to right.
The hierarchy in dconf gconf is too complicated and not user-intuitive.

Also in favor of right sided controls, I still maintain:

1) It is easier for right handed people.
2) Most people come from a Windows background. This I say from the fact that
90% of OS share is windows. They are used to a convention of right sided
windows control. Ubuntu is perceived as a distro to which makes linux
transition easy. Thus, right handed controls will only help making Unity more
usable.

Again, you may feel that my generalization i wrong or not apt. But I
personally have come from a certain background and I find a certain
convention favorable and easy. Unity should not force its choices on me
without leaving an option to revert back.

[Bug 473172] Re: gimp selection not working under nvidia

2011-11-27 Thread KammutierSpule
Same problem here. With xfce4, if I move to gnome session it works OK.
but it used to work in xfce4 OK, probably not gimp bug..

[Bug 875878] Re: Easymp3gain Hangs when clicking Add File or Add Folder

2011-11-27 Thread csola48
** Description changed:

  Source Package: /usr/bin/easymp3gain
  Ubuntu release 11.10
  Package version: easymp3gain-gtk 0.5.0-6

I've used easymp3gain in previous Ubuntu releases, but this was the first
time in Ubuntu 11.10.
- It loads normally, but when I choose Add Folder, the Select Destination
window opens, but I can't do anything in it. Neither choose folders, change
discs in the left tree, or even cancel the operation. The Close icon in the
upper right corner doesn't work either.

Only way to get out of it is via Kill Process in System Monitor
The first times, I could open one file with Add File, but now that doesn't
work either.

My hard drives are healthy, and I have no problems in other
  applications.
