[Bug 488857]
Thanks, that's great news! I believe "INVALID" (meaning "not a mozilla bug") is the correct resolution for that. However, it's probably best to verify that it's actually fixed (for Firefox) in a patched GTK version first. Perhaps you've already done that? If not, we can wait 'til patched GTK versions make it to distros, and resolve this at that point. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488857 Title: Printing to PDF/PS/SVG defaults to a hidden (.name) filename To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/488857/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

My patch for the upstream GTK+ bug causing this problem has been committed https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=603823 This bug should probably be closed as invalid or wontfix as its not actually a bug with mozilla but rather a GTK bug.

[Bug 844081] Re: Unity Greeter - Background of the Unity Greeter should reflect the background chosen by the user that is currently selected
Correct on seamlessness being the goal. The only thing that has to work for 12.04 is that the greeter should layout the wallpaper using the same transformation as the GNOME/Unity default. Anything else is a bonus, and worth bumping to a later release. I don't think we want to support transitioning wallpapers at all, if someone has this configured we should just show the first one (transitioning would be confusing and look like the selected user was changing). [Bug 890441] Re: nautilus memory leak
Sigh. I let it run for about 15 minutes. I tried to "use" it, but like I said, it takes about 1m just to open a window. So I didn't use it "much". It's not possible to monitor the resource usage of nautilus when it's running inside of valgrind, because it's not in the System Monitor anymore... a 500MB task that wraps it up is instead. What's happening inside of this appears to be opaque to the tools I have. I have about 15 items on the "desktop"... one perhaps clue is that I have the "desktop" set to ~/ via the gconf settings. This means that there are very many ".dotfiles" which are hidden to nautilus as it paints the desktop. There is one .png on the desk, but it hasn't updated in weeks. I'm not downloading anything there (I have Downloads, ala Ubuntu standard). To pursue this line of reasoning, I've turned off everything on the "Preview" tab of the nautilus preferences... removed most of the files from the "~" to clean the "desktop" and restarted nautilus. I'll watch it for a while and report back. One probably irrelevant thing: I see TONS of these in .xsession-errors: "(nautilus:18652): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_container_foreach: assertion `GTK_IS_CONTAINER (container)' failed" -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/890441 Title: nautilus memory leak To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/890441/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 900324] Re: apparmor profile provides too much access
"Why is it that difficult to understand that I do not ask you to make ubuntu more tight, but to split the configuration into two parts to allow users to make it more tight if they want without breaking the package updates?" Ok, so this is a 3rd separate bug report in addition to the other two: not having the policy be conffiles which could be implemented as splitting out the system bits from the user bits. The apparmor developers have discussed how a distribution should ship profiles generally for a long time and there is no completely satisfactory answer. What resulted from these discussions was the /etc/apparmor.d/local mechanism. Files in this directory are not conffiles and will not be updated on upgrades. [Bug 890441] Re: nautilus memory leak
Ok, I did some tests... 1. When nautilus does NOT draw the desktop, memory use stays put at around 20M and does not grow. This is without moving the extension directory, so Dropbox and Kupfer could still be active. 2. If I move aside that extensions directory and restart nautilus, if it is set to draw the desktop, the growing memory behavior continues... again, even if the extensions are not in place. I attached a valgrind dump that represents #2 state: with extensions removed but desktop drawn. Given that without desktop drawn, the memory use is normal, I didn't see a point in attaching another log. I hope that's ok. ** Attachment added: "vgdump.gz" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/890441/+attachment/2623558/+files/vgdump.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/890441 Title: nautilus memory leak To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/890441/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 900324] Faulty/useless apparmor profile
Jamie, Am 07.12.2011 um 15:31 schrieb Jamie Strandboge: > Hadmut, we have been through this before-- Yes. And I would highly appreciate if you'd remember that last time I finally won because of the better arguments. You could save your and my valuable time if you wouldn't start the same discussion over and over again, and recall previous results and improvements instead. > Ubuntu is a general purpose > distribution and we cannot deny access to all files in the manner you > keep suggesting because people will just turn off apparmor altogether And you're repeating the same mistake again and again. As usual you totally missed the point and closed the bug before you understood it. I don't ask you to make apparmor config more tight. I totally agree with you that it should remain in a state where it works for the non-experts. I ask you to split it in two parts. The part that does not need user configuration (i.e. to read /usr/lib and such things needed to get the software up and running), and the other part that opens multimedia files at runtime, because that's the part that security-aware users might modify to match their individual needs. BTW., that's exactly the reason why I put both bug reports into one, because I hoped it would help understanding why there is need to split that in two separate files. On one hand, the parts depending on the operating system (like /udev, /usr/lib,...) which is the same on all machines, should not be modified manually because once modified the debian/ubuntu package system refuses (or at least has problems) to upgrade files in /etc/... So there's no clean and smooth way to configure security to local needs without beeing cut from updates and bug fixes (like the one with the /udev thing). But if you were splitting that in a general part and a separate part describing the run time access rules (like $HOME/** ), one could configure the latter without touching the former and thus still get all updates with new packages. The last time when we had the same problem with a different package, it was a lot of hard work and took me a heap of ugly swear words to convince the ubuntu crew. Why is that so difficult to understand and why do I have to explain that from scratch again and again? Why is it that difficult to understand that I do not ask you to make ubuntu more tight, but to split the configuration into two parts to allow users to make it more tight if they want without breaking the package updates? Why the hell do you force people to break updates if they want more than just zero security? [Bug 844081] Re: Unity Greeter - Background of the Unity Greeter should reflect the background chosen by the user that is currently selected
I've started with some implementation of this. The simple case is easy, where it's just one wallpaper with default settings. But I'm assuming our goal is seamlessness. So that when you log in, you see the same exact wallpaper (minus dots and branding obviously). That means that for full integration, we would need to support the following features (modifiable via the Appearance panel): A) One wallpaper B) Multiple wallpapers, transitioning at times defined in an XML file (see /usr/share/backgrounds/contest/background-1.xml) C) One solid color D) A vertical color gradient E) A horizontal color gradient And for the wallpaper cases, we'd need to support possible modes like "zoom", "centered", "stretched", etc. (only modifiable via gsettings right now). I'll start looking into this broader scope soon, but if there is a smaller target we want to hit for 12.04, let me know. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/844081 Title: Unity Greeter - Background of the Unity Greeter should reflect the background chosen by the user that is currently selected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/accountsservice/+bug/844081/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
