[Bug 909262] [NEW] Rhythmbox Won't Accept Drag and Drop Album Art

2011-12-27 Thread JG
Public bug reported:

When I try to drag and drop a jpg for the album art of a song onto the
music symbol with the tool tip that says "Drop Artwork Here" it won't
add the album art.

[Bug 907394] [NEW] Keys don't repeat although it is enabled.

2011-12-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After a default install on a Dell T7500 (probably not relevant), I found
that key presses did not repeat when a key was held down. I checked the
setting in the Keyboard control panel, and it was ENABLED. I googled it
and found this:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1068482

So it would seem this has been around for a while?

For me, deselecting the "Key presses repeat when key is held down" and
then reselecting it fixed the problem immediately.

1. Description:Ubuntu 11.10
Release:11.10

2. Whatever comes by default

3. I expected key presses to repeat when a key is held down (by
default).

4. Instead, holding a key caused a single keystroke.

[Bug 907709] [NEW] Windows fail to refresh unless moved

2011-12-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Using Unity 3D with an Nvidia 9600GT video card, nvidia-173-updates
drivers (version 173.14.30-0ubuntu5). When interacting with
applications, they don't show any changes unless I move the window. So
eg. in gnome-terminal, if I enter a command, I have to move the terminal
window before I can see the output.

Please let me know if there are any further details that can help.

[Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups

2011-12-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
A fix is available in ppa:vanvugt/unity,
https://launchpad.net/~vanvugt/+archive/unity

** Description changed:

  WORKAROUND FOR 11.10:

- None available right now.
+ None available. But an early fix is available for 11.10 in
+ ppa:vanvugt/unity, https://launchpad.net/~vanvugt/+archive/unity

  WORKAROUND FOR 11.04:

There are two ways to configure the primary monitor in Ubuntu 11.04...

Permanent workaround (requires logging back in again):
Edit ~/.config/monitors.xml, find the monitor you want the launcher to
display on and change:
  no
  to:
  yes
Now log out and log in again.

  Temporary workaround (no logout required):
  Open a Terminal window and...
  1. Run "xrandr" to find the NAME of the output you would like to make primary.
  2. Run: xrandr --output NAME --primary && nohup unity --replace &

  ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:

  Binary package hint: unity

In my particular configuration I have an external monitor hooked up to
my laptop on the left of the laptop display. The unity bar is ending up
on the laptop display though making it in the middle of the two
  monitors.

This makes it quite difficult to activate the bar with a full screen
application open on the laptop (hitting the upper left pixel of that
  monitor without going over).

I think it would make more sense to make it configurable which monitor
the bar ends up on, or at least look at the orientation of the monitors
when determining where to put the bar.

[Bug 812422] [NEW] keyboard preference changes dont save

2011-12-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I installed Ubuntu I specified UK english as my default, even
though I live in South Africa, because the South African Dictionary
isn't as comprehensive as the UK one. But then, when I started working I
came across a problem- the @ and " keys on the keyboard are switched
around. So I added the South African keyboard layout and selected that
one. But when I restart, it defaults back to the UK keyboard.

so I went into preferences and delete UK keyboard, but when I restart
its back, and selected by default.

[Bug 830348] Re: desktop contents briefly visible on resume from suspend before lock dialog

2011-12-27 Thread Steve Audia
(thanks, in advance, everyone for all the gratuitous hard work that
makes Ubuntu great).

I'm using Oneiric x64 on a Vaio VPCZ13KGX and this has been a problem
for me as well. However it only manifests when resuming from
sleep/suspend. I am using UnityUI in the default 3D-mode, and have the
Intel GPU enabled only (not using the nVIDIA GPU at all).

I can see the desktop's contents for up to 2 seconds sometimes and can
interact with the desktop before the lockscreen dialog appears.

It would appear to be as simple as the suspend occurs before the gnome
lock event. Is re-ordering that a simple twiddle of some config files
somewhere or is it worse than that?

In the meantime my work-around is to switch to an empty workspace before
suspending.

[Bug 212789] Re: gvfs fuse mount is not functional after logout and subsequent login

2011-12-27 Thread MSE
I'd like to confirm sighting of the .gvfs "Transport endpoint is not
connected" bug in Xubuntu 11.10 Oneiric.

The problem is as described in the post from 2008-06-20 in this thread:
Thunar won't show the contents of /home/ubuntu, due to the issue with .gvfs .
And ls -la of /home/ubuntu shows broken permissions for .gvfs :
d? ? ? ? ? ? .gvfs

Additionally, I see the same broken permissions on /etc/mtab and
~/.bash_history . I can "fix" the broken permissions on ~/.gvfs with "umount
.gvfs". But, due to the corruption related to .bash_history , Thunar still
will not display the contents of $HOME. It fails with:
Error stating file '/home/ubuntu/.bash_history': Input/output error.

Corruption in mtab prevents Thunar from displaying the contents of /etc :
"Error stating file '/etc/mtab': Input/output error."
On the command line, a simple attempt to see what's in mtab with "sudo cat
/etc/mtab" results in:
cat: /etc/mtab: Input/output error

Now, I'm far from an expert in these matters.
But I suspect that losing I/O access to mtab, even for root, is not a good or
desirable feature.

I'm running a more or less out-of-the-"box" Xubuntu Live install from a USB
drive.
This is a stock Oneiric install, as installed to an 8GB Kingston DataTraveler
drive by Universal USB Installer, with 2GB persistence file. It's running on
an Asus branded Intel Atom eeePC netbook.

The workaround from this thread (posted originally on 2008-04-27 and
re-visited more recently on 2011-11-07) has been reposted various places around
the 'net:
fusermount -zu ~/.gvfs
from eg.,
http://razcx.wordpress.com/2011/11/03/cannot-access-gvfs-transport-endpoint-is-not-connected/
  and
http://r3dux.org/2011/08/how-to-workaround-gvfs-transport-endpoint-is-not-connected-errors/

But this doesn't address whatever the underlying problem is with GVFS.
It appears that this has been a known bug in GVFS since early 2008, when this
thread was opened, and an identical bug was reported in the Fedora 9 forums:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=452304

2011-12-27 Thread Phillip Susi
I see the problem. It is the /proc filesystem. The contents of this
filesystem are entirely fictitious so it makes no sense to get the size
of it.

[Bug 780117] Re: Brasero finishes without error but unusable media [no simulation mode] (Ubuntu 11.04)

2011-12-27 Thread Marcello Romani
I can confirm this bug on 11.10 x64. I have just burned a DVD with 613 JPGs
onit. Burning options were: write directly on disk (no intermediate image), use
burnproof, DVD speed 3x, leave the disk open.
It completed the burning succesfully (apparently), then it started calculating
the disk checksum. In the end, a message box said "manually eject the disk".
Below it there was another message box reporting an error: it was something
like "burning error, some files might be damaged".
It turned out the DVD is totally unreadable.

Man, i HATE regressions like these...

[Bug 881664] Re: "Share My Desktop" doesn't work with XMPP in 11.10

2011-12-27 Thread Pavel Borecki
Hi Muhammad,
I read instructions on Gnome Bugzilla and I think, that their instruction
(somewhat unclear) "Try to offer a tube" means "Try to share your desktop".
After it fail, then return do gdb and type "bt full" to get list of information
useful for developers solving this problem. Unfortunately, I got only "No
stack." - please try it on your machine - if you will be more succesfull, then
it will be possible to complete bug report at Gnome Bugzilla and get problem
solved.

[Bug 908998] Re: size of files shows "128TB"

2011-12-27 Thread Phillip Susi
Can you try deselecting one folder at a time until the size appears to
be correct? That should help narrow down the problem to a specific
entry.

[Bug 838543] Re: False battery warning +suspend

2011-12-27 Thread Susanne Schlensog
This bug occurred to me today for the first time. Just 2 days ago my
Samsung N150 netbook was just running fine with an up-to-date Precise.
Today, I pulled the plug and - BAM - netbook just turnd off. The battery
was fine. I could run the netbook for 2 to 4 hours without a problem,
and now the battery appears to be dead (in 12.04 too, which I booted in
some minutes ago).

So...is there anything I can do to bring my battery back to life?

Confirmed in Precise.

** Description changed:

- 1.Choose System/Administration/Login Window/Accessibility/Enable accessible
login;

+ In a system with multiple users, the screensaver unlock dialog does not
+ permit switching users.
+
+ Steps to reproduce:
+ 1. Lock screen.
+ 2. Press "Switch user" button.
+
+ Expected outcome:

+
+ Workaround:
+ Use Ctrl+Alt+F to switch to the X session of the desired user.

[Bug 830840] Re: Chat window will not open

2011-12-27 Thread Rodrigo Virote Kassick
This seems to be an intermittent bug for men. Soon after login, the
message list appears to work ok -- click on a contact, it opens a chat
window, adds an entry to the notification tray.

Most of the times, the problem occurs after I open the first chat window
-- i.e. I start chatting with contact A; soon I need to send a message
to contact B, who is online. Clicking on the contact name or drag-and-
dropping the contact into an opened chat window does not work.

If contacts A and B started conversations with me and I only answered
them in the notification tray, I usually can open the chat window via
the notification "bubble" for *only one of the contacts*. Works the
first time only, then I can not open any other chat window.

Starting a chat via gnome-contacts works correctly.

Most of the times, the only solution to have the chat windows back is to
close all chat windows and the contact list, disconect from all IM
accounts, kill mission-control and then start all over again.

Curiously, after I opened the debug window to generate the log, I
figured I had regained the ability to open chat windows. Don't think
it's related, but 've never seen empathy get back to working
correctly...

[Bug 909089] [NEW] Gnome-chess-error: Computer-horse-killed pawn en-passante.

2011-12-27 Thread Magnus Dicander
Public bug reported:

In chess only pawns are suppsed to be able to kill other pawns en-
passante. En-passante means in chess that right after a pawn has moved 2
steps, the opponent can force the pawn back 1 step and kill it with its
own pawn as if it would have gone only one step.

[Bug 909090] [NEW] quick search in nautilus, based on filename is messed up

2011-12-27 Thread Daniel Holm
Public bug reported:

Lets say that I want to find a file named abc123.txt in my home dir, I
open Home, start typing abc, but perhaps I have abc111.txt, or so, so
that it would be easier to just use the arrow keys for the last part of
finding the correct file, the marker in the quick search gets re-
positioned to the left or right - depending on what I clicked of course
- instead of jumping right or left between the files in my dir.

Also, If I have entered a letter, I cant hit enter while the quick
search is still visible. So, even If I find the correct file to begin
with, using Quich search, I'll have to first hit Esc, then Enter to open
another dir, a file or whatefter.

This is absolutely not a duplicate of #559894 – German spellchecking is
working, I do not get red lines for my texts. Did you even read my
report? It says ‘unlike #559894’, so I already made my homework at least

Spellchecking fails for a number of words (see my original report), all
the errors are related to the same letter ‘ß’. It works for the others

[Bug 786317] Re: wacom intuous3 often fails to draw stroke (release click not recognised?)

2011-12-27 Thread Andrew Kay
I tried to do some more work this time using Gimp 2.7.3 (compiled myself on
Xubuntu 11.10 from some instructions)
And using my Wacom intuos 3.

I can confirm that both bugs are still there:

- sometimes you make a stroke , but you might have just as well stayed
in bed, because gimp won't move the tool

- sometimes you get a stray point (x = 0 or y = 0) added to your stroke,
resulting in long horizontal or diagonal splodges where you don't want
'em (some kind of race condition I expect)

I'm using vanilla Xubuntu, so there's just xfce4 & its desktop - no
unity/metacity/...

[Bug 825167] Re: unable to add password to terminal on request

2011-12-27 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
The password is not shown, in order to prevent others from looking over
your shoulder and seeing your password. Just type it out as normal and
press enter at the end. For more info, please see
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+faq/62 .

Feel free to report any other bugs you come across in the future.

[Bug 894347] Re: Force Quit applet never quits

2011-12-27 Thread Ville Ranki
This happened to me again. I was trying to kill disk usage analyzer
which stopped working.

I was able to get rid of the "click on misbehaving app" dialog after
killing metacity and gnome-panel. After this keyboard didn't respond any
more so i was forced to restart X.

[Bug 909039] [NEW] Evince hangs on opening a particular pdf

2011-12-27 Thread Anthony Harrington
Public bug reported:

Fixes seem to have been released for similar bugs? But anyway:

I opened a 13 page pdf (3.1MB) (which was made in simple-scan) and for
some reason (first time i've seen this behaviour with evince), it slowed
the desktop to a crawl and evince didn't render any pages but kept
flashing blue. Caught the error by running it in the terminal. The
following was repeated:

input (surface, pattern, etc.)

[Bug 820485] Re: ubiquity stops installation at 'Configuring target system'

2011-12-27 Thread Stéphane Graber
The specific gnome-keyring related issue has been fixed. As the issue
was showing up for every single install, I'm sure we'd have noticed if
it was still happening.

Now, several other things could freeze your install at this point, I'd
suggest you file another bug report about it, making sure to attach:
/var/log/syslog /var/log/installer/debug as well as the output of "ps
faux" from your live session.

Thanks

[Bug 885793] Re: .mkv & .flv videos don't play in Totem Ubuntu 11.10

2011-12-27 Thread Amr Ibrahim
** Description changed:

In Ubuntu 11.10, I can't play .mkv and some .flv videos in Totem (some
other .flv videos do work). I don't get any messages, they just don't
play. I see only the first frame of the .mkv or .flv video freezing on
Totem where it says "Playing" at the left-bottom, the time stays 0:00 /
0:00 and the audio is automatically muted every time I play any .mkv or
  .flv video.
+
+ When I right click in Nautilus to see the properties of these not-
+ playing files I get a popup window saying "Creating Properties window.
+ You can stop this operation by clicking cancel." -- and that is all I
+ get. From the files that do play, I do get a properties window.
