For example you have 2 contacts.

1. John, j...@g.de
2. John Frankling, j...@hos.com

if you add j...@g.de to #2 the crash will occure. No crash if you delete

[Bug 910063] [NEW] Window of EOG does not has focus when opened from Nautilus

2011-12-30 Thread markba
Public bug reported:

When an image is opened from Nautilus, thus starting the the standard
image viewer, EOG, this window does not has the immediate focus. A user
has to click into the window to move the focus to EOG.

This problem is especially cumbersome when EOG is opened maximized: a
user can not see that the global menu which is unhidden when moving the
mouse to the title bar, is *not* the menu of EOG (it is the menu of
Nautilus...). When trying to close EOG, a user *actually* closes the
former window (= Nautilus). Because the user see nothing changing
(because a hidden window underneath is closed), he clicks another time
and only then, the EOG window is closing. The user expects to come back
to Nautilus, but he will not find it.

I don't have to explain how confusing this is.

[Bug 727928] Re: Upon starting a program full screen with NVIDIA Xinerama, the window is immediately moved to the wrong monitor

2011-12-30 Thread Captain Chaos
 Why not Unity-2D?

Because Unity-2D doesn't work with Xinerama either. It puts everything
on my left monitor, and puts an identical copy of the screen on the
second and third monitors. If I try to drag something off the left
monitor it just disappears, and clicking the mouse on the second or
third monitor has no effect.

The *only* combination that (more or less) works for me (on a system
which is by no means old or exotic) is the proprietary driver with GNOME
Classic without effects. If that is the only thing that Ubuntu can offer
me, then it's not unreasonable to expect it to at least work correctly.

To the contrary, this is a metacity behavior, not by Ubuntu's design.

I get that it isn't by design. That's what makes it a bug. And I
understand that the bug is in metacity, that's why I filed the bug on
metacity.

I understand that Ubuntu doesn't have unlimited resources, but this bug
can't be that hard to fix. Note that the window is initially opened on
the *correct* monitor. But then (once it first receives the focus, it
appears to be, which isn't always immediately) something (presumably
metacity) moves the window to the wrong monitor.

It is active behaviour, probably a feature which is misfiring, which
can't be that hard to just turn off or disable, or at least make
configurable, for someone familiar with the metacity codebase. Perhaps
it even already is configurable, if only someone could tell me how!

I'd also like to point out that there is no evidence that this is
specific to Nvidia, or even Xinerama. The only way I can get multiple
monitors to work at all is with Xinerama, but for all I know the same
would happen without it.

[Bug 855793] Re: Kubuntu 11.10 beta 1: Error upgrading using muon

2011-12-30 Thread Marco Parillo
Similar for me also.
I installed two .iso images using VMware Player.
I installed Ubuntu 11.10 successfully and was able to perform all software
updates.
I installed Kubuntu 11.10 successfully, but was *NOT* able to perform all
software updates, and it hung at 56% Running dpkg .
I tried this solution:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/89401/first-update-after-fresk-kubuntu-install-hangs-bc-of-dpkg-now-what

Step 1: Open a Konsole and type:
ps -e | grep muon
sudo kill (number identified above (I had to supply my password, and now
the muon-updater window closed))
exit (to close the Konsole)

Step 2: Re-boot (I used the Kickoff Application Launcher, Leave, Shut
Down, Turn Off, which automatically exits VMware Player)

Step 3: Play the Virtual Machine. Failure:
Error while opening the virtual machine: A serious error occured when accessing
this virtual machine: Input/output error
Configuration file: \\[path stuff here]\My Documents\Virtual
Machines\Kubuntu1110\Kubuntu1110.vmx.

Can also confirm this on a fresh install of 11.10 (x86-64). I have near-
full NTFS partitions and I keep getting low disk space notifications
even after checking the Don't show any warnings again for this file
system box. I added the partitions to /etc/fstab post-install (by uuid)
rather than specifying mount points for them during installation at the
partitioning stage. Starting the Disk Usage Analyser app and going to
Edit - Preferences and then unchecking the partitions makes no
difference.

[Bug 489754] Re: The GNU Chess stops working once you use Ctrl+z. It goes on thinking...

2011-12-30 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu and GNOME since that time you reported the bug and
your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help
us a lot if you could test it on Ubuntu 11.10. When you test it and it
is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-
collect 489754 and any other logs that are relevant for this particular
issue.

I suppose that nautilus keeps ~/Documents under control and updates its
thumbnails, or other metadata, as soon as a file is created or modified.
The problem is that nautilus runs with nice = 0 and for some reasons
leaks a huge amount of memory (~2GB per hour). Or, perhaps, it is
disturbed by the fact that files are created in the new/ directory and
then moved to the cur/ directory, as it is normal with Maildir
directories.

[Bug 292585] Re: Evolution Mail Notification has no sound

2011-12-30 Thread Bjarke Sandbeck
For me, the following worked:

In Evolution, go to: Edit Plugins and choose the plugin called something
like Notification of new mail (my version is in another language), and open
the tab Configuration on the right. The FIRST line, I UNmarked (called
something like Play only sound when mails arrive in the INBOX.
The next fielt I marked Play sound everytime mails arrives.

Below that, You can choose Beep (standard), and that don't work, so I
choose Play from file and found a file that I like, and everything now
works fine.

BTW: Happy NewYear 2012 :-)

[Bug 855793] Re: Kubuntu 11.10 beta 1: Error upgrading using muon

2011-12-30 Thread Marco Parillo
Second try.
I deleted my Virtual Machines, re-installed from the .iso, and tried this
solution:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11558447

Step 1: Open a Konsole and type:
sudo apt-get update (I had to supply my password)
sudo apt-get upgrade (It asked me if I was willing to give it space to download
the updates, and I said Y. It appeared to run successfully and after some 10+
minutes of updates flying by, it gave me back my bash prompt)
exit (to close the Konsole)

Step 2: Re-boot (I used the Kickoff Application Launcher, Leave, Shut
Down, Turn Off, which automatically exits VMware Player)

Step 3: Seems to work, and this time the notifier tells me only six security
updates are available.
So, I cross my fingers and do the graphical update with Muon.
It appeared to be successful, and I closed Muon and noticed the System
Notification Helper reported that A system restart is needed to complete the
update process.

Step 4: Re-boot (I used the Kickoff Application Launcher, Leave, Shut
Down, Turn Off, which automatically exits VMware Player)

Step 5: SUCCESS! No pending updates, posting this from rekonq on an up-
to-date Kubuntu 11.10 in a VMWare VM.

[Bug 831308] Re: Evolution crash when copy/move contact between address books

2011-12-30 Thread Tandemfahrer
This bug seems to affect plenty more people than just the two previously
mentioned. A discussion on the German Ubuntu users forum shows four
users affected as well:

http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/evolution-stuerzt-beim-kopieren-von-
kontakten/

This is extremely annoying. I have set up several address books, and now
I find that it seems to be impossible to synchronize multiple address
books with Funambol, thus forcing me to merge all contacts into one
address book.

Thanks for any work you can put into this.

[Bug 910214] [NEW] Creating a Video DVD image using Brasero, I get the message: Impossible to link plugin pads

2011-12-30 Thread kimus
Public bug reported:

When I try to create a video DVD image using Brasero, I get the message:
Impossible to link plugin pads.

The videos I'm using are 400 x 296, 15 fps, H.264 with AAC audio. When I
open Help Plugins in Brasero, it reports that all the required plugins
are enabled and working.

I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 with Brasero 3.2.0-ubuntu1.

Any help would be appreciated!

[Bug 910223] [NEW] gnome-system-monitor color scheme changed between 3.2.1 and 3.3.3

2011-12-30 Thread Redmar
Public bug reported:

After upgrading gnome-system-monitor from 3.2.1 to 3.3.3 the color of
the 'upload' rate of the network has changed from purple (#844798) to
red (#EE1D00).

I'm not sure if this is a design decission or a mistake, the rest of the
color scheme hasn't changed so I'm guessing it's a mistake.

[Bug 910274] [NEW] gnome-screenshot does not take capture anything

2011-12-30 Thread pottersson
Public bug reported:

When I take a screenshot in Gnome 3, it doesn't appear to be able to
see anything -- no windows, no icons on the desktop. I only get a
lovely cropped segment of my background image. This happens when I'm
taking shots of the entire desktop as well as particular windows. Icons
on the desktop are ignored as well.]

I'd include a screenshot to help demonstrate this, but well... you know.

[Bug 910223] Re: gnome-system-monitor color scheme changed between 3.2.1 and 3.3.3

2011-12-30 Thread Robert Roth
Thanks for reporting this. This change is not a mistake, but an
accessibility fix for bug #485712. You still can customize the colors of
the charts, so you can change it, only the default has been changed to
be easier to distinguish for colorblind people. Because of this I am
setting this bug to Invalid.

[Bug 910244] [NEW] rhythmbox crashes when opening device preferences

2011-12-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

so i have been trying unsuccessfully to sync some playlists to my phone
but whenever i try to open the device preferences rhythmbox shuts down.
i'm using ubuntu 11.10 and the phones i'm trying to use are an iphone 4
with iOS4 and a samsung galaxy sII

when i click on the iphone symbol in rhythmbox terminal displays:

(rhythmbox:4213): Gtk-CRITICAL **:

then when i try to open preferences rhythmbox shuts down, terminal says:

(rhythmbox:4213): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_value_set_object:
assertion `G_VALUE_HOLDS_OBJECT (value)' failed

this is using an iphone 4 (iOS 4) i then tried the same thing with an android
phone, the first line didn't appear when i clicked the device icon but upon
trying to use preferences terminal tells me:

(rhythmbox:4360): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_value_set_object:
assertion `G_VALUE_HOLDS_OBJECT (value)' failed

this is super frustrating as i can't sync either of my phones now, what can i
do?

thanks for your help.

[Bug 366235] Re: system monitor uses incorrect network speed (throughput) units

2011-12-30 Thread Robert Roth
@jbicha: If the file downloads are measured in *byte/s, than that should
be changed to bit-based, just like this bug to be consistent. The Ubuntu
units policy [1] clearly states that base-10 (kB, MB, etc.) should be
used to measure network bandwidth, which seems to be the case for
download speeds, upload speeds etc. So consistency should be a goal,
either by using base-2 everywhere and changing the Units policy, or by
fixing the apps showing download/upload to display in base-10.
