[Bug 910063] [NEW] Window of EOG does not has focus when opened from Nautilus
Public bug reported: When an image is opened from Nautilus, thus starting the the standard image viewer, EOG, this window does not has the immediate focus. A user has to click into the window to move the focus to EOG. This problem is especially cumbersome when EOG is opened maximized: a user can not see that the global menu which is unhidden when moving the mouse to the title bar, is *not* the menu of EOG (it is the menu of Nautilus...). When trying to close EOG, a user *actually* closes the former window (= Nautilus). Because the user see nothing changing (because a hidden window underneath is closed), he clicks another time and only then, the EOG window is closing. The user expects to come back to Nautilus, but he will not find it. [Bug 727928] Re: Upon starting a program full screen with NVIDIA Xinerama, the window is immediately moved to the wrong monitor
Why not Unity-2D? Because Unity-2D doesn't work with Xinerama either. It puts everything on my left monitor, and puts an identical copy of the screen on the second and third monitors. If I try to drag something off the left monitor it just disappears, and clicking the mouse on the second or third monitor has no effect. The *only* combination that (more or less) works for me (on a system which is by no means old or exotic) is the proprietary driver with GNOME Classic without effects. If that is the only thing that Ubuntu can offer me, then it's not unreasonable to expect it to at least work correctly. To the contrary, this is a metacity behavior, not by Ubuntu's design. I get that it isn't by design. That's what makes it a bug. And I understand that the bug is in metacity, that's why I filed the bug on metacity. I understand that Ubuntu doesn't have unlimited resources, but this bug can't be that hard to fix. Note that the window is initially opened on the *correct* monitor. But then (once it first receives the focus, it appears to be, which isn't always immediately) something (presumably metacity) moves the window to the wrong monitor. It is active behaviour, probably a feature which is misfiring, which can't be that hard to just turn off or disable, or at least make configurable, for someone familiar with the metacity codebase. Perhaps it even already is configurable, if only someone could tell me how! I'd also like to point out that there is no evidence that this is specific to Nvidia, or even Xinerama. The only way I can get multiple monitors to work at all is with Xinerama, but for all I know the same would happen without it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/727928 Title: Upon starting a program full screen with NVIDIA Xinerama, the window is immediately moved to the wrong monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/727928/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

The problem is that nautilus runs with nice = 0 and for some reasons leaks a huge amount of memory (~2GB per hour). Or, perhaps, it is disturbed by the fact that files are created in the new/ directory and then moved to the cur/ directory, as it is normal with Maildir directories. [Bug 292585] Re: Evolution Mail Notification has no sound
For me, the following worked: In Evolution, go to: Edit Plugins and choose the plugin called something like Notification of new mail (my version is in another language), and open the tab Configuration on the right. [Bug 855793] Re: Kubuntu 11.10 beta 1: Error upgrading using muon
Second try. I deleted my Virtual Machines, re-installed from the .iso, and tried this solution: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11558447 Step 1: Open a Konsole and type: sudo apt-get update (I had to supply my password) sudo apt-get upgrade (It asked me if I was willing to give it space to download the updates, and I said Y. It appeared to run successfully and after some 10+ minutes of updates flying by, it gave me back my bash prompt) exit (to close the Konsole) Step 2: Re-boot (I used the Kickoff Application Launcher, Leave, Shut Down, Turn Off, which automatically exits VMware Player) Step 3: Seems to work, and this time the notifier tells me only six security updates are available. So, I cross my fingers and do the graphical update with Muon. It appeared to be successful, and I closed Muon and noticed the System Notification Helper reported that A system restart is needed to complete the update process. Step 4: Re-boot (I used the Kickoff Application Launcher, Leave, Shut Down, Turn Off, which automatically exits VMware Player) Step 5: SUCCESS! Thanks for reporting this. This change is not a mistake, but an accessibility fix for bug #485712. [Bug 366235] Re: system monitor uses incorrect network speed (throughput) units
@jbicha: If the file downloads are measured in *byte/s, than that should be changed to bit-based, just like this bug to be consistent. The Ubuntu units policy [1] clearly states that base-10 (kB, MB, etc.) should be used to measure network bandwidth, which seems to be the case for download speeds, upload speeds etc. So consistency should be a goal, either by using base-2 everywhere and changing the Units policy, or by fixing the apps showing download/upload to display in base-10.
