[Bug 913700] [NEW] cannot open any pdf document with evince

2012-01-09 Thread thebluemountain
Public bug reported:

binary: /usr/bin/evince
ubuntu version: 11.04
evince version: 2.32.0-0ubuntu12.3

expectation:
when opening a pdf file from evince, pdf pages are displayed in the evince
application

problem:
when trying to open any pdf file with evince, the evince program raises cpu
usage to 96% of a single CPU and displays empty pages only.

to further test:
1- i have installed a vmware virtual machine (on the same ubuntu host) running
the same os (ubuntu 11.04), providing access to the same files that failed
opening: it opens same file with no problem.
2- i installed adobe's acrobat reader on same host: it opens same file with no

[Bug 913736] [NEW] Thinkpad 410s -- Cannot re-enable Bluetooth after it's been disabled

2012-01-09 Thread Tony Espy
Public bug reported:

During UDS-P I was experimenting with various settings to reduce power
consumption on my Lenonvo Thinkpad 410s.

I turned Bluetooth off via the System Settings - Bluetooth panel. I
also removed the icon from the panel by turning visibility to Off.
This all works great except for the simple fact that I cannot re-enable
my Bluetooth anymore.

When I re-launch System Settings - Bluetooth, both toggle switches are
Off, and the left hand column below includes the text No Bluetooth
Adapters found. There seems to be no way to re-enable my Bluetooth
now as both switches are disabled and grayed out.

I believe this is due to the fact that when BT is disabled, the device
disappears from the bus, which leaves nothing for the code to grab in
order to re-enable the device. This is a guess on my part, as I haven't
yet taken a look at the code...

My machine is running 11.10 with all of the latest updates.

The version of gnome-control-center on my machine is:

gnome-control-center:
  Installed: 1:3.2.2-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:3.2.2-0ubuntu1

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make
Ubuntu better. However, it seems that you are not using a software
package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories (but rather a PPA?)
. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your
particular bug. Please report this bug to the provider of the software
package. Thanks!

If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and
Ubuntu the following pages should be informative:

[Bug 838792] Re: Restart logs out, even when there are no other people logged in

2012-01-09 Thread wizzor
Could this be in any way related to fingerprint auth? I have that
enabled from external repositories, which may change the behavior of PAM
somehow (for example having two authentication sources available, rather
than one)?

ck-list-sessions only reveals one active session, no autologin in
lightdm.conf.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 913488

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Ps. Sorry for the above comment #4. Please ignore it. I confused Gnome 3
and Gnome shell.

[Bug 727207] Re: file-roller cannot extract single file with special character in file name

2012-01-09 Thread Daniel Mustieles
Hi,

This bug has been for several time in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS... and it hasn't
been solved. What happens with it? Should LTS user wait to the next
version have it fixed?

Please, if you can't fix it, contact with Paolo Bacchilega (File-
Roller's main developer in GNOME Project) to fix it. It is a very
annoying bug, and I think it should have been solved in LTS version (it
has been reported several times).

Many thanks

[Bug 913776] [NEW] rhythmbox closes unexpectedly (mostly on clicking 'play')

2012-01-09 Thread merikilpikonna
Public bug reported:

I installed Rhyhmbox through Lubuntus Software Center - no errors.
In preferencesMusic I checked the box to watch for new files in /home/Music -
imports only a small fractions of my files (400MB/4.4GB) - no more busy loading
bar in the bottom right

I click 'play' anyway and it closes down on me (quits the program).
Retrying a couple of times brings forward the same error - once it even quits
before I can click the 'play' button.

Then disable 'watch for new files' and right-click an mp3 file to open
it in rhythmbox, it jumps to rhythmbox and does nothing (also does not
quit). Clicking 'play' now gives me the error message: Playback could
not be started (in German) (null).

I suppose it is a Lubuntu problem, because it never occured to me on
ubuntu.

[Bug 843847] Re: /usr/bin/gnome-power-manager missing from package

2012-01-09 Thread chrysn
the debian changelog says:

 * Sync with ubuntu:
- Stop installing the g-p-m autostart xdg file, the daemon parts have been
  replaced by gnome-settings-daemon

it seems gnome-power-manager has been subsumed in gnome-settings-daemon
now. (although it's not very explicit in the ubuntu changelog.)

could you have a look if there is any functionality missing when using a
current gnome-settings-daemon?

Could you also attach your Xorg.0.log and syslog from /var/log folder to

[Bug 913736] Re: Thinkpad 410s -- Cannot re-enable Bluetooth after it's been disabled

2012-01-09 Thread Tony Espy
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected oneiric running-unity

** Description changed:

[Bug 402962] Re: Notify OSD should not rely on applications that inhibit the screensaver

2012-01-09 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
After considering this further, I don't see what Notify OSD could
reasonably change here.

The relative amount of screen taken up by screensavers and notifications
is not relevant. What is relevant is that we don't want non-urgent
notification bubbles appearing in front of videos or other things that
you should not be interrupted from. That is exactly the same reason as
applications inhibit the screensaver. Therefore, we listen for the same
signal.

Unfortunately, Totem inhibits the screensaver by default when music is
playing. This does not seem to make sense. Jeremy Nickurak has it right:
the screensaver should inhibit only when Totem is playing a full-screen
video -- not a windowed video, and certainly not music. So it is Totem
that needs fixing here, not Notify OSD.

[Bug 872042] Re: Empathy open/close groups only possible with triangles

2012-01-09 Thread balo
I think it's a bug.
I can't open/close the groups with clicking on their names, it works in the
previous version (2.34.0-0ubuntu3.1). The operation of group open/close
possible only with the (small) triangles. (i described this strange behaviour
in the bug description too)

if it's a feature, please make this configurable.

thanks,
Balo

Hi,
If not already seen, this is not a duplicate of bug #685196 like the page is
announcing (or maybe I missed something).
This affects eog 3.2.1-0ubuntu1 from oneiric-updates repository under Linux
Mint 12 LISA Os version though it works perfectly with the same cr2 (canon)
files on a Debian squeeze Gnome 2.30 version.
If other informations are needed just ask, because it's my first time posting
on the launchpad and, as allready said, I may have missed something. So feel
free to tell and thanks in advance for all :D.

[Bug 876671] Re: gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor uses 100% CPU on startup

2012-01-09 Thread DavidW
The same happens to me - everything fine until I plug an external HD
into the laptop - and then the following start to eat CPU cycles:

gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor
gdu-notification-daemon

If I stop these (it was an act of desperation) then update-notifier
starts to eat CPU cycles

I am using 11.10
On the machine before clean install of 11.10 - from 10.?? - no problems

I also have 11.10 on the USB HD - and when I use this to boot a Lenovo
laptop or an HP laptop - again the CPU use rises to close to 100% - with
the same processes misbehaving

If I plug the same HDD into my 10.04 system then - no problems

I am happy to do more digging for information - but it seems few other
folks are suffering this problem

[Bug 890026] Re: Custom GNOME panel launcher icons lost upon upgrade to Oneiric

2012-01-09 Thread Piotr Czachur
+1

I'm using gnome classic (no effects) under Oneric too, and I find managing
application launchers in top panel very unfriendly.
1) There is no option to add a launcher icon using mouse-right, no one will
guess that you have to create *.desktop file and drag it to the panel.
2) There is no option to remove such launcher from panel.

Please add right menu to add application launcher and option to remove
it from panel.

Cheers!

[Bug 914014] [NEW] totem no longer plays dvds in precise

2012-01-09 Thread James Troup
Public bug reported:

totem can no longer play DVDs for me in Precise. When I try totem
starts up and displays 'Title 74, Chaper 1' in the menu bar, but
otherwise a black screen.

This used to worke in Oneiric before I upgraded. It's not an
encryption issue as libdvdcss2 is still installed and I can play the
DVDs with xine.

There's nothing particularly interesting in ~/.xsession-errors, but
I'll attatch the relevant parts anyway.
