[Bug 949692] [NEW] Empathy cannot be resized to a smaller width.

2012-03-07 Thread melrokz

I see that Empathy defaults to a wide window that cannot be resized to
reduce it's width. Please see the screenshot.

Btw, I'm not sure if this is added as a new feature...

[Bug 949424] Re: [UIFe] String and feature changes in new Rhythmbox

2012-03-07 Thread Martin Pitt
Launchpad Bug Tracker [2012-03-07 21:47 -]:
> Features:
>
> - Removal of gtk_dialog_run usage in all but one special case.

Sounds fine.

> - Allow plug-ins to specify they should be enabled by default
(regression already approved in bug #934235)

That sounds very welcome indeed, and I count this as a bug fix
actually.

> - Porting of more plug-ins and example scripts to PyGI/GIO/GDBus

Sounds fine, as they currently would not even run with pygtk, so again
bug fixes.

> Strings:
>
> "LIRC" instead of "LIRC " (This can be updated with a simple
> search/replace.)

Approved. It's a proper noun and acronym anyway, so I doubt it even
should be translated.

> There are also some string changes in the magnatune plug-in which we are
> not currently shipping (as it was disabled for a while upstream, from
> building). We might want to package it again, as it is re-enabled now.

Approved.

> uninstall some plug-ins.

FF wise I'm ok with this, but this should be coordinated with Debian.
This is quite an invasive packaging change, and we don't want to
carry it forever.

[Bug 947808] Re: Can't see the webcam video during OOBE steps

2012-03-07 Thread Anthony Wong
** Description changed:

+ SRU Justification
+ =
+
  [Impact]
Some webcams (cheese) don't work due to fatal error when querying attributes
that camera driver does not supported, and for them they are not working during
the OOBE capture picture step. It happens on some HP and Dell notebooks.
Devices affected include 0c45:6448 and 064e:e28a.

  [Development Fix]
  Already fixed in 0.10.31-1ubuntu1

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gst-plugins-good/commit/?id=c1c858f2733aba9fd8f6120656b0db20a66b6c77

  [Test Case]
Test with cheese to make sure video can be recorded.

  [Regression Potential]
Unlikely to have regression, as the change is minimal, by changing error into
logging a warning in the debug log and move on.

  Summary:

User can not see webcam video in OOBE

v4l2c reported that camera is not functional when querying a controller
is not supported by camera driver/device. In this case, UbiquityWebcam
can not change camer2bin2 to PLAY status that the camerabin2 pipeline
construction is failed because it querys a not-supported control
  9963778(Saturation).

this bug is already fixed in upstream (
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=670197)

  Step To Reproduce

  1. Install Ubuntu
  2. A dialog shows to ask User pick a picture or take a picture as his avatar

  Excepted Result:

Webcam works, User can take a picture

  Actual Result:

  Webcam is blank

2012-03-07 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
Thank you for your suggestion. However, the changes you are requesting
aren't really a bug and require more discussion, which should be done on
an appropriate mailing list or forum.
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/mailinglists might be a good
start for determining which mailing list to use.

[Bug 949568] Re: Default GNOME fallback session should be "GNOME Classic (no effects)" (Metacity)

2012-03-07 Thread Bob Bib
** Description changed:

  0) As for now, default GNOME fallback session called "Gnome Classic" uses
Compiz.
  It doesn't work well:
  a) frames of some windows suddenly become torn (moving/refreshing helps);
  b) if you change the settings of workspace switcher from default working
settings (2x2 'desktops') to something else (e. g., 1x4) and then try to select
another (not current) desktop, you'll get no more than full-screen wallpaper;
to switch back to your workspace, you can launch a terminal ( + +
); it reverts to default (2x2) after logout though;
  c)  +  window switching hotkey is not working;
  d) if you want to get the panel context menu, you should use
+  +  instead of  +  (not working);
- e) its 3D/2D effects doesn't fit the default Ubuntu theme (Ambiance) well.
+ e) its 3D/2D effects doesn't fit the default Ubuntu theme (Ambiance) well
(maybe, Adwaita'll help).

  1) As a workaround, you can disable (or even remove) Compiz and use
Metacity or simply select "GNOME Classic (no effects)" session at the
  login screen.

[Bug 949489] Re: There is no "Disc Blanking" in the quick list.

2012-03-07 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

  0) As for now, default GNOME fallback session called "Gnome Classic" uses
Compiz.
  It doesn't work well:
  a) frames of some windows suddenly become torn (moving/refreshing helps);
  b) if you change the settings of workspace switcher from default working
settings (2x2 'desktops') to something else (e. g., 1x4) and then try to select
another (not current) desktop, you'll get no more than full-screen wallpaper;
to switch back to your workspace, you can launch a terminal ( + +
); it reverts to default (2x2) after logout though;
  c)  +  window switching hotkey is not working;
  d) if you want to get the panel context menu, you should use
+  +  instead of  +  (not working);
  e) its 3D/2D effects doesn't fit the default Ubuntu theme (Ambiance) well.

  1) As a workaround, you can disable (or even remove) Compiz and use
Metacity or simply select "GNOME Classic (no effects)" session at the
  login screen.

[Bug 949567] [NEW] Evince doesn't show up correctly in switcher, pressing ALT+TAB

2012-03-07 Thread Sascha Biermanns
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Beta 1 (nightly build)
2) evince: Installiert: 3.3.90-0ubuntu3
unity: Installiert: 5.4.0-0ubuntu2

3) When I open a pdf, cbr or any other readable file with evince, the
program starts and you can read the file. If you switch to firefox,
whatever and press ALT+TAB, evince should be shown in the switcher and
should be selectable.

4) Evince doesn't show up in the switcher. If you look at the launcher,
there is not a filled pyramid left of the symbol, only a >

Work around
The bug can be solved, right clicking the evince symbol in the launcher and
checkboxing "keep in launcher" for evince. Now you can close and open evince,
and the pyrymid is appearing left in the launcher beside the evince symbol. If
you now press ALT+TAB, evince is in the switcher and selectable.
The other solution is, clicking on evince in the launcher, to show the running
evince again.

hmm.. It seems You're right.. that's another problem..
I try to follow the topic You suggested..
Anyway, it's still a problem with udisks..
Wondering, if there is a possibility to completely remove udisks package from
the system, not affecting the whole desktop...
Then I would install it again and check if there was a problem with a package
or sth else..

[Bug 949555] [NEW] Restart/Shutdown anyway fails when a program is still running

2012-03-07 Thread crep4ever
Public bug reported:

I use emacs in a server/client mode and when I try to shutdown or
restart, the dialog "a program is still running" (see attachment 1)
appears and prevents the action.

The problem is that the dialog presents an action labeled "restart
anyway" that does not work. It kills the "still running" process (my
emacs server) and closes the dialog but does not shutdown/restart. You
have to click on "shutdown" a second time and then it behaves correctly.

Now, this is a bug as the action is not performed as indicated but I
think that we shouldn't even see this dialog in the first place. At
least, there could be a counter that would trigger automatically the
shutdown/restart action after a brief delay.

If it can help someone to reproduce the bug, I use this alias in
~/.bashrc :

alias emacs='emacsclient -c -a ""'

No it should not, lot of people don't need their computer to lock just
because they are in a call at their desk and don't type on the keyboard
to 15 minutes but they still want to lock it when closing the lid or
suspending before going away later on

@Mark, that would work for me but I would prefer to get input from mpt on that

[Bug 938076] Re: Auto-lock on suspend is still needed when encrypting file system

2012-03-07 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Ubuntu has always let the user disable the automatic screen lock without
having an impact on locking when using suspend. When this stopped being
the case, we had a lot of complaints which led to different patches
being attempted. It seems there are a few different use cases:

1- User wants password to login, wants the screen to lock automatically at
periods of inactivity, and wants screen to lock on suspend.

2- User wants a password to login, but doesn't want screen to lock
automatically because typing in a password multiple times a day is
annoying, but if suspending the laptop, wants the screen to lock as the
laptop may be travelling.

3- User uses autologin, doesn't want the screen to lock, doesn't want
the screen to lock on suspend.

4- User uses crypto disk with password on boot, uses autologin, wants
the screen to lock automatically, wants the laptop to lock on suspend.

5- User uses crypto disk with password on boot, uses autologin, doesn't
want the screen to lock automatically, wants the laptop to lock on
suspend.

Clearly grouping all of these scenarios into upstream's single "lock-
enabled" setting isn't enough.

[Bug 949424] Re: [UIFe] String and feature changes in new Rhythmbox

currently in trunk with, and upstream is planning to make another
release in the next weekend as well.

There are several string changes, and a few feature changes, in the
  package as a result.

  Features:

    - Removal of gtk_dialog_run usage in all but one special case.
    - Allow plug-ins to specify they should be enabled by default (regression
already approved in bug #934235)
    - Porting of more plug-ins and example scripts to PyGI/GIO/GDBus

  search/replace.)

There are also some string changes in the magnatune plug-in which we are
not currently shipping (as it was disabled for a while upstream, from
building). We might want to package it again, as it is re-enabled now.

I also have some binary packaging changes I'd like to make, to reduce
dependencies of additional external plug-ins, and make it easier to
uninstall some plug-ins. This includes moving some of the existing plug-
ins into the main rhythmbox package, as they are intended to be enabled
by default upstream, and some of them are needed by other plug-ins (like
the special rb plug-in). These plug-ins are:

[Bug 938076] Re: Auto-lock on suspend is still needed when encrypting file system

2012-03-07 Thread Nelson Elhage
Given the security implications for users who do use full-disk
encryption, I strongly object to "wishlist" importance here -- this
represents a major regression, in my mind (and for my personal
machines), which will force me to work around in an annoying way if it
is not fixed.

In addition, I would argue that autologin is entirely the wrong setting
to look at here. Instead, if a user has configured the screensaver to
lock the screen when idle, then the machine should also lock on suspend,
and vice versa. This is certainly the behavior I had always assumed
Ubuntu had, and am surprised to hear it is not.

Autologin is a *very* poor proxy for "Is the state of this machine while
suspended worth password-protecting?". Encrypted disks are an obvious
reason, but there are also things like keys stored in the keyring that a
user has decrypted once with a password, but are now stored in-RAM in
the clear. Similarly, networked credentials like Kerberos tickets might
be present on a suspended, that would not be present if an attacker
rebooted the machine.

There is also the simpler issue of social conventions and expectations
-- My roommates and I might leave laptops around shared space in an
apartment with the implicit convention of "If the screen is locked,
don't use it; but if it unlocks when you poke it, feel free to use my
web browser to look something up". In such a case, the lock screen is
not a security mechanism at all, but just a social indicator of the
expected use for this laptop. Currently, I can control the lock behavior
if the machine is left idle for five minutes via the screensaver; Why
should I not be able to do so when the machine suspends? Or, even
better, why should it not be the same setting?

[Bug 878767] Re: No GUI option to change week-starting day

2012-03-07 Thread Andrei

lot) are in a position to make important changes to this distribution.

"I hold a Bachelor's degree of Business Administration in Accounting" Go
figure... with that half-baked logic. This is what happens when you put
an engineer's task in the arms of an economist. Another one on the list.
