[Bug 989893] Re: [soundnua] Audio doesn't correctly switch when headphones are plugged in/unplugged

2012-04-30 Thread Conor Curran
I have noticed this also. After testing it seems to be a race condition.
I can only reproduce it when headphones are unplugged (not plugged in).
Essentially what is happening is that the headphone port becomes
unavailable therefore the backend goes to remove that output which
results in the UI moving to the next available port. Meanwhile the
speaker port becomes available but at that stage the damage is done as
the UI thinks the other device should be default. One potential solution
would be for the backend to always guarantee that the port which has
just become available to always send it's signal first ahead of the
signal which will remove the unavailable port.

[Bug 992367] [NEW] An error occurred when trying to change the Full Name of my user account.

2012-04-30 Thread cshong
Public bug reported:

I am using Xubuntu 12.04. I never face this problem when using previous
version of Xubuntu.

What I am trying to change is my Full Name, not the username (login ID).

My Xubuntu only has one user account, my own user account. Therefore, I
logon using my own user account when the error occurred.

When I try to change my full name, the error message "The configuration
could not be saved. An unknown error occurred" was shown, and my full
name was not changed successfully. Please look at the attached
screenshot "user-admin-error.png".

Steps to reproduce:
1. Login using your own user account.
2. IGo to Application Menu -> System -> "Users and Groups".
3. Select your own user account.
4. At the right side, click on the "Change..." button located beside your
current full name.
5. Try to change your full name, then click ok.
6. You will see the error message.

Please fix this bug. Thank you!

[Bug 992360] [NEW] gnome-power-management Far from correct function

2012-04-30 Thread Jhonny Michael Lora Jimenez
Public bug reported:

Hi Bug experts.

I know you will say to me you should buy a vaio laptop. But I have to
move on. I'm on a vaio VPCCW19FX using Precise Desktop AMD64 I power
management is not working correctly. Sometimes, power indicator says I
have 70% then after few minutes it say I have 72%. Also, I cant change
the brigthness of my screen what have my eyes almost red. BTW im using
an NVIDIA G210M.

I've being suffering since Oneiric release, and was about to install
vaio- power from vaio-utils.org/ and thought lets wait for precise
release, and still the same issue. :S. Should I install vaio utils or
ubuntu will fix this?

Anything you need just tell me.

Thanks.

[Bug 992355] [NEW] apport hook installed to incorrect directory

2012-04-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

Starting with 2.95.5-0ubuntu1 (bzr commit #160) the rhythmbox apport
hook is installed to /usr/share/apport/package_hooks/ instead of
.../package-hooks/. As a consequence the apport hook is no longer
triggered when filing bugs via `ubuntu-bug rhythmbox` (which I confirmed
while filing this bug).

[Bug 978728] Re: Google Calendar broken : Unable to create calendar object : The calendar doesn't exists

2012-04-30 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Affects any addition of events to Google Calendars; this is limited to
calendars using the CalDAV protocol, and only for calendars hosted by Google.
+
+ [Development Fix]
+ Two patches to be backported from Evolution-Data-Server upstream trees
3.4/master. In other words, cherry-picking two patches from the current stable
series of Evolution-Data-Server is sufficient, and those can be applied with
minimal changes to the 3.2.3 packages.
+ The first patch supports the second in implementing a slightly different
method for updating the slave states for the calendar backend;
+ The second patch works around the issues specific to Google in the handling
of responses from event addition by looking for the added event by UID as an
.ics file after receiving a "No such calendar" response.
+
+ [Stable Fix]
+ See "Development Fix".
+
+ [Test Case]
+ See below.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Small. This changes the behavior on received responses for calendar event
addition. In the event that responses from a server fail to follow standard
CalDAV protocol and results in similar responses to those from Google servers,
an additional code path is entered to try and locate the added event by UID.
+
+
+
  Steps to reproduce :

  1) add a new event to one of your google calendar
  2) error message shows (translated from French) : Unable to create calendar
object : The calendar doesn't exists
  3) discard the new event dialog
  4) check on the web : the event has been added nevertheless
  5) some time after (next evolution sync) : the event appears on evolution

This affects a lot of the users I'm helping with Ubuntu related issues
and is the exact same problem described here :

[Bug 992303] [NEW] Cannot play mp3 or ogg files in Rhythmbox after upgrade to 64-bit 12.04 Precise

2012-04-30 Thread kiriath-arba
Public bug reported:

Right-click on mp3/ogg file, select "Open With Rhythmbox Music Player."
Application opens but does not play. Clicking on "Play" button produces
window error message, "Couldn't start playback (null)." Clicking on
"Play" button a second time produces a different window error message,
"Couldn't start playback - Failed to create playbin2 element; check your
GStreamer installation." Expected mp3 files to play normally as they did
with Rhythmbox on 11.10 Oneiric prior to upgrade.

[Bug 969535] Re: [power]: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in engine_get_icon_priv()

2012-04-30 Thread Jess Morecroft
Eagerly awaiting the patch for this to be released for Precise. We
installed the LTS obviously without knowledge of this bug and now our
four monitor Quadro NVS 420 driven displays are virtually useless. As
Nathaniel mentioned above, with Xinerama setting applied the daemon
crashes and consequently "the desktop looks like crap and is hard to
use". Running with just two screens in the interim.

[Bug 990725] Re: Shotwell will not detect mts moviefiles on memory card

2012-04-30 Thread Clint Rogers
melenzb: You'll be pleased to know that we've just checked a small fix

Along with checking for the presence of (and enumerating image and video

which should cover most camcorders.

[Bug 774740] Re: Huge memory leak in metacity

2012-04-30 Thread Vasileios Kontorinis
I applied the patch #778727 on ubuntu 11.04 64-bit.

It does fix the memory leak problem (metacity used to consume ~4GB of mem while
with the patch never exceeds 5MB).
However, it introduces a new problem. Alt-tab functionality to switch between
processes is now broken.
Every time I press Alt-tab it seems as if it redraws the windows and leaves me
in the same one.

Interestingly, if I have two terminals and press alt-tab continuously
the terminals are moving downwards.

[Bug 931565] Re: The methods Shutdown and RequestShutdown in org.gnome.SessionManager do the same

2012-04-30 Thread hakaishi
** Also affects: gnome-shell
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

I've looked into the source of gnome-session-bin and noticed that the
methods Shutdown and RequestShutdown of the org.gnome.SessionManager
interface both start the shutdown-dialog. In the file
org.gnome.SessionManager.xml it is clearly stated that RequestShutdown
(line 319-325) should not start a Dialog while Shutdown (line 251-257)
  should.

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04, but this problem has been occuring since some time
before 12.04. (I've noticed it because I'm the programmer of qshutdown)
The difference to the System(s) before 12.04 was that the shutdown-dialog was
not called in both cases.

- You can test this with "gnome-session-quit --force --no-prompt --power-
- off" and "dbus-send --session --dest=org.gnome.SessionManager
- /org/gnome/SessionManager org.gnome.SessionManager.RequestShutdown".
- Both commands shoudn't call a dialog.
+ You can test this with "dbus-send --session
+ --dest=org.gnome.SessionManager /org/gnome/SessionManager
+ org.gnome.SessionManager.RequestShutdown". The system should shutdown
+ without popping up a dialog (prompt).

Just to mention another problem coming with this: When setting (lets say
with the dconf-editor) at org->gnome->gnome-session (also
org.gnome.SessionManager) logout-prompt to false, no dialogs are shown
at all (with either Method) and clicking on Shutdown in the indicator
menu also just shuts down instead of showing the option(s) to reboot
  etc.

[Bug 970885] Re: Empathy 3.4 and pidgin-skype

2012-04-30 Thread Vincenzo Mantova
I traced down the problem to one single call to the function
"g_thread_init()" inside the package "pidgin-skype". As of the official
glib documentation [1], the function is not needed anymore and it is
deprecated from version 2.32 on, and apparently is disabled when
telepathy-haze and empathy try to load the plugin.

I'm attaching a patch that comments out the call to g_thread_init. As
far as I have tested it seems to work fine.

[Bug 449506] Re: No GUI option to set screen rotation of greeter

2012-04-30 Thread Bruce Dunn
Since this bug was originally filed in 2009, some versions of Ubuntu
were able to present a login screen in portrait mode. This
functionality seems to have been lost again, presumably in the switch to
Unity.

This problem should have high priority in light of the strategic
ambitions of Ubuntu to be more widely used by business. If a company
has even a portion of its machines running Ubuntu in portrait mode for
word processing or publishing, it is going to be reluctant to adopt
Ubuntu if login is difficult for those machines.

The alternative, for machines to auto-login when turned on, is a
possibility for some home users, but a non-starter for businesses.

[Bug 992198] [NEW] Nautilus file copy dialog doesn't show in ALT-TAB on Unity 2D

2012-04-30 Thread Jason Robinson
Public bug reported:

Unity 2D:

When initiating a file copy in Nautilus the file copy dialog appears
normally. However once it is lost by changing to other windows, it
cannot be found either via the launcher or with ALT-TAB. The launcher
clearly shows a file copy is going on (shows two windows open and a
progress bar on the icon) but clicking it only enables access to the
Nautilus window, not the file copy dialog.

This has been fixed in Unity 3D but not 2D - see bug #868032
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/868032

Release: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (64bit)
Nautilus version: 1:3.4.1-0ubuntu1
Unity 2D version: 5.12.0-0ubuntu1

Expected: File copy dialog can be retrieved via launcher or ALT-TAB

[Bug 990169] Re: systemsettings->appearance no longer previews the themes

2012-04-30 Thread Craig Hansen
Actually, there are four variants to select from, but if that's the case
then the selector shouldn't be titled "Theme" it should be titled
"Variants of the Default Theme (but there are No Other Themes)" After
all, there is no "full features theme selector."

Even so, it still takes about 8 seconds after selecting a Variant for
there to be any feedback as to what is changed (not even a wait cursor),
and the text names are undescriptive, so I would reinstate and reiterate
my original comment, that this mechanism is clumsy without a GRAPHICAL
preview.

Incidentally, if it is helpful in resolving, keyboard shortcuts to move

workspace does not.

[Bug 990695] Re: gnome-settings-daemon leaks memory / 100+ percent cpu

2012-04-30 Thread SlugiusRex
It is definitely the same as #483719 - which is classified as a
duplicate of #969359.

So should I mark as duplicate?

I cannot reproduce. If it happens again I will obtain a backtrace
following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace
(as an attachment) to the bug report.

[Bug 992154] [NEW] Unable to interpret cyrillic encoding

2012-04-30 Thread Zilvador
Public bug reported:

As described in the question by user tigra:
"I have problem with view russian names of files in rhythmbox. Names of files
and additional information in files is not readable. Cyrillic encoding problem?
My system is ubuntu 7.04. Files stored on NTFS. "

I think this deserves to be looked at as a bug, since most users will
see it as such without thinking about needing to reencode file names nor
knowing that this is possible or how to do it.

Since Rhythmbox is now again the standard music player for Ubuntu, I
believe it should expand its support for file name character encodings
if possible.

Edit: Seeing as how the related question is put so far down on
Launchpad, I will post the link here too. It describes a work-around,
which is not for non-technical users:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+question/9373

[Bug 954826] Re: empathy-chat crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance() on send file to google talk contact

2012-04-30 Thread Subhadip Ghosh
This bug also affects me. I did a clean install of the final version of
12.04 today and the bug is present there also. Whenever I try sending a
file to some google contact, the file transfer shows an error, after
which it gets cancelled.

** Changed in: empathy (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Confirmed
