[Bug 993759] [NEW] No manual entry for gnome-power-manager

2012-05-03 Thread Detlef Lechner
Public bug reported:

':~$ LANG=C man gnome-power-manager;
man: can't resolve /usr/share/man/man1/gnome-power-manager.1.gz: No such file
or directory;
No manual entry for gnome-power-manager'

I expect that Ubuntu provides a manual for the DEB program package
gnome-power-manager.

/usr/share/man/man1/gnome-power-statistics.1.gz is not enough.

If I shutdown my notebook right after booting it does make a complete shutdown.
It seems like the longer I wait and work with it the higher are chances for a

I wasn't able to reproduce #882307 bug but sometimes the paste menu

that bug. Bug #882307 doesn't affect Ubuntu Precise as reported by other

[Bug 872054] Re: Cannot shutdown/restart with multiple users logged in

2012-05-03 Thread Sep Thijssen
I am affected by this as well in 12.04 and in 11.10 before that. If this
is not a bug then at least a flawed design. The interface is such that
intuitively you do not log out, but just point and click to switch to
the desired user account. This then leaves you unintentionally with
multiple users logged in, and when you (administrator) want to shut down
you are in trouble.

I think this bug/flaw has nothing to do with Oneric / 32 bit. I think it
effects everybody.

It should be very easy to reproduce by switching to Guest Session, then
switch back (without log-out), and then try to shut down.

There should be a solution for this.

[Bug 972311] Re: Accessing a MTP device like the Galaxy Nexus fails

2012-05-03 Thread Jan Gutter
Which update was that? I'm up to date and it's still broken. The only
updates I got that might be relevant was for glib (and libtasn1), and
neither fixed the issue.

I've tried using Cinnamon, GNOME fallback and Unity, and now it seems
like hit-or-miss that MTP even gets recognized. If that happens, I only
get the silly button at the top that says I could use Rythmbox to manage
my music device and the timeout message after a lng while.

Way to go bringing enterprise-class polish to the user interface, guys!

[Bug 993828] [NEW] Rhythmbox can't be quit from the dash

2012-05-03 Thread Michael Kanis
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
* Start Rhythmbox
* Start playing some music
* Right click on the Rhythmbox icon in the dock (or whatever you call the icon
bar to the left) and choose 'Quit'

What I expect:
Rhythmbox should quit, the music should stop.

What happens:
The Rhythmbox window is hidden somewhere (but not normally minimized) and the
music keeps playing.

In general the behavior of Rhythmbox wrt closing and minimizing is
highly confusing and inconsistent. It behaves totally different than all
the other applications and almost never does what I'd expect.

[Bug 903833] Re: Support dark variation of the theme

2012-05-03 Thread James Ye
The GTK+ dark theme works by just copying gtk.css from Ambiance to gtk-
dark.css to Radiance. Can't yet figure out how to make the titlebar
dark, though. This a just a preliminary upload so I won't mark as a
patch yet, as it is experimental (and I used it off a beta version of
light-themes from Precise as I haven't upgraded yet.

[Bug 993878] [NEW] there is no tab for access to file notes in the properties dialog

2012-05-03 Thread Dan Kortschak
Public bug reported:

The Notes tab of the properties dialog has gone away some time between
Lucid and Precise. The decoration indicating a note exists is still
present suggesting the feature has not been intentionally dropped.
Further examination shows that emblems have also disappeared (this
appears to be intentional http://ubuntuguide.net/add-emblems-to-
nautilus-files-folders-in-ubuntu-12-04-11-10 and is no great loss).

I would expect the notes tabs to be present in the properties dialog or
some other obvious way to read already existing notes (and preferably be
able to edit them).

[Bug 971322] Re: Unity-2D/metacity window placement/move problems in precise

2012-05-03 Thread m4rce1
Hi, I installed 12.04 some days ago and replaced Unity with Unity 2D. I
even removed compiz. Everything works fine except the window placement.
Every window opens in the upper left corner at +0+0. After moving a
window its new place will not be remembered on reopening.

First of all: Is this a problem of Metacity or Unity 2D?

I did some research and tried to use Devil's Pie to force all windows to
be centered in the middle of the screen. Although Devil's Pie performs
some of my commands (e.g. (focus), (geometry 400x300)) centering does
not work. I tried to move a Nautilus window some pixels towards the
center by appling the command (geometry 400x300+100+100) but only the
size of the window changed. The x and y offsets are not recognized by
Devil's Pie.

Can this be an indicator for the window placement problem?

Any ideas for a workaround?

My settings under /apps/metacity/general are:

 action_middle_click_titlebar = lower

[Bug 991962] Re: empathy shows multiple popups in gnome 3

2012-05-03 Thread Christian Smith
Okay, it seems the latest updates fixed this issue. I updated yesterday,
and since restarting empathy, it has stopped doing this. I don't know
what updated (I was paying attention -_-*. but if you know a way to look
at update history, I definitely will get that info), but both empathy
and gnome-shell are still at the versions above, so it wasn't those two.

[Bug 993952] [NEW] authentication failed

2012-05-03 Thread MatatTHC
Public bug reported:

Since the upgrade to precise pangolin I'm unable to connect to ICQ/AIM.
In the account preferences the message is Disconnected -- Authentication
failed

I found a forum entry:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1944629

As suggested I tried pidgin: In the original setting it reports:

You have been connecting and disconnecting too frequently. Wait ten minutes and
try again. If you continue to try, you will need to wait even longer.

When I disable the client login option as suggested in the forum I get:

ACCOUNTNR disabled
Unknown reason

But login on the website is possible without problems.

[Bug 993973] [NEW] In Unity, the Show Menubar item in the contextual menu is useless and the Menubar hijacks shortcuts from the shell

2012-05-03 Thread LeoRochael
Public bug reported:

In the classic desktop, a user could disable the gnome-terminal menu bar
by de-selecting the Show Menubar option in the View menu or in the
contextual (right click) menu.

In Unity, this option is useless, since the menubar remains accessible
in the global Unity menu bar.

This is a problem because, when active, the menu bar captures shortcuts
that were intended for the shell.

For example, in bash with emacs key-bindings Alt+F moves forward one
word at a time, but inside gnome-terminal, with the menu bar visible, it
opens the File menu.

In the classic desktop, hiding the menu bar also stops the capture of
Alt+ combinations, which are sent directly to the shell.

In the pt-BR locale, I have the same problem, but with the Alt+B
shortcut, which opens the Tabs (Abas) menu.

I never need the menu bar, since most options are accessible from the
context menu (and I rarely use them), but I care about moving fast
between words.

One work-around, is to use ESC, F (releasing ESC before pressing F)
instead of Alt+F, but it's a lot more cumbersome, specially if used
repeatedly.

[Bug 964339] Re: Can't Connect to MSN

2012-05-03 Thread David Baucum
Is this reproducible now ?
Yes.

If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
attach the haze (msn) log file with the bug report ?
This will help us to find and resolve the problem.
Open up online accounts and add your Windows Live account. Next open Empathy.
The Windows Live (MSN) connection will fail saying Disconnected - Network
Error

It is probably important to note that if you click Edit Connection
Parameters it brings up the exact same connection configuration options
as a jabber account, with everything at its default settings that you
get when setting up a jabber account. The username is set to
messenger.live.com and the password is blank with Remember password
unchecked.

After setting /apps/evolution/mail/display/mark_seen_timeout to 1500,

[Bug 994004] [NEW] Appearance panel doesn't show correct preview when set to Center or Tile

2012-05-03 Thread Sean Murphy
Public bug reported:

When selecting a new wallpaper, you can adjust how the wallpaper displays on
the screen using the Appearance dialog.
The Appearance panel shows a monitor and scales the wallpaper to the monitor so
you can see how your desktop will look without minimizing everything... except,
it doesn't.
When setting a wallpaper to either Tile, or Center, the preview in the monitor
is completely wrong. Instead of showing a preview scaled to the size of the
preview monitor it displays the full-size wallpaper on the preview monitor.

[Bug 972311] Re: Accessing a MTP device like the Galaxy Nexus fails

2012-05-03 Thread Jan Gutter
I've tried something different:

http://ohheyitslou.blogspot.com/2011/12/galaxy-nexus-enable-mtp-file-
transfer.html

Precise is up-to-date with the latest stable libmtp. BUT, it seems that
mtpfs pulls down the entire tree from the phone before allowing access
to the FS. If this is because libmtp operates that way, it might explain
why there's a timeout in the GUI version: for anything but a basically
empty phone, it's going to time out.

A quick way of accessing at least *some* part of the phone's FS is to
run the mount command like 'mtpfs -o allow_other /mnt/tmp/', wait a
while, switch the phone to PTP, then back to MTP. You should be able to
see the portion of the tree that downloaded.

I checked how long it takes for the full tree to transfer, and it seems
to be about 6.5 minutes.

Is anybody from Ubuntu dealing with this, or should try our luck with
the libmtp guys?

And yeah, it does seem that the frustration is affecting me in
mysterious ways :-p

[Bug 994061] [NEW] Gedit refuses to close.

Public bug reported:

Hi,
I do not know what did happenned with Gedit, but the window on which I’ve asked
Apport to inspect does not answer when I tried to close it. The process seems

I do not know how this bug is reproductible or not and I might do an upgrade

[Bug 872701] [NEW] Keyboard layout doesn't change

2012-05-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

With two keyboard layouts (layout1 and layout2, where layout1 is the default
for the session)
1) lock the screen with CTRL-ALT-l
2) touch mouse to bring up screensaver dialog
3) switch keyboard layout to layout2 (and note keyboard indicator indicates
layout change)
4) enter password *as if layout1 was active* [1]
5) screen is unlocked
6) switch back to layout1

Repeat, but this time skip step 3 - screen is still unlocked. That is,
it seems that although the screensaver dialog indicates that it changes
the layout - it is always using the one layout.

[Bug 967471] Re: eog 3.2.1 doesn't display raw files

2012-05-03 Thread lock42
This bug does affect me since Ubuntu 11.10. I can read my Raw only with
software like rawtherapie, ufraw, darktable, Corel AfterShot (nonfree), etc ...
I can display thumbnails in Nautilus and if I well remember the problem remains
by using alternative software like gThumb.

Maybe the $HOSTNAME variable isn't present when rc.local gets executed,
or maybe the command gets executed, but when the Bluetooth managers
starts it changes that again to the wrong hostname?

Restarting bluetooth does set it back to ubuntu-0 again. So it seems a
fix would be to put that into the bluetooth startup process perhaps.

[Bug 994094] [NEW] Password inputed in screensaver is retained after suspending the laptop

2012-05-03 Thread Linux Lover
Public bug reported:

When the screen is locked by running the gnome-screensaver, if you input
your password, and close the lid to suspend, the password will be
remembered.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1) Lock Screen (Ctrl+Alt+L)

2) Type your password, but do NOT press Enter.

3) Close the laptop's lid. This will suspend that laptop.

4) Wake up laptop from suspend

5) Password that was typed in step 2) is still remembered.

WHAT DO I EXPECT TO HAPPEN:

4) Wake-up from suspend

5) Re-type password (password should not be remembered)

Now, this could be a trouble since there might be a day when you were
about to unlock the screen so you typed your password. however, you
changed your mind and closed the lid. Unfortunately, any person that
opens the lid and waking up from suspend will be able to login since the
password was remembered by gnome-screensaver.
