[Bug 941463] Re: empathy automatically start on login doesnot work
H-Bomb is correct, this bug has occured in every version of Ubuntu since the switch to Empathy. New users do not know how to configure a program to auto-start. Even somewhat experienced users will not know the command needed to force a program like Empathy to start (usr/bin/empathy -h). After a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04, on first boot the Messaging Menu will set the users status to Offline by default. If a user changes their status to Available, Away, Busy, or Invisible and then restarts or shuts down the computer, the Messaging Menu will default back to Offline on the next boot. A new Ubuntu adopter will be forced to set their status to Available after every single boot, which would result in much frustration. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/941463 Title: empathy automatically start on login doesnot work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/941463/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 995185] Re: Multimedia keys are disabled
Hi Sary, thanks for the prompt response. The first thing I notice is the kernel version you just used is different to the original dmesg: Original: [0.00] Linux version 3.2.0-23-generic (buildd@crested) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu4) ) #36-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 10 20:39:51 UTC 2012 (Ubuntu 3.2.0-23.36-generic 3.2.14) [0.00] Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-23-generic root=UUID=daeaa295-5990-4302-a175-fe2559526049 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 Now: [0.00] Linux version 3.0.0-19-generic (buildd@vernadsky) (gcc version 4.6.1 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.1-9ubuntu3) ) #33-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 19 19:05:57 UTC 2012 (Ubuntu 3.0.0-19.33-generic 3.0.27) [0.00] Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.0.0-19-generic root=UUID=710b9731-f503-4f39-8891-b8292e060a73 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 This looks to be a two different installations. The original one was using 12.04 Precise, this later one looks to be using 11.10 Oneiric. Is the PC set up for multiple boots into different releases? Second thought regarding dmesg. dmesg used to only capture the initial boot messages which were switched to /var/log/kern.log once the system got going. That has changed with 12.04 so that might explain why - if you're using 11.10 Oneiric now - you don't see the key-scan codes reported in dmesg. To find all occurrences try this: grep -n 'setkeycodes' /var/log/* You may need to prefix that command with 'sudo' if some files aren't accessible to your user account. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995185 Title: Multimedia keys are disabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/995185/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 950160] Re: Keyboard function key to switch between monitors no more works
After a few rounds of testing, I think there is different result to run g-s-d with and without the --debug argument. This is what I do: kill -9 `pgrep gnome-settings`; gnome-settings-daemon --debug And then press the video switch hotkey or super+p and observe if the xrandr-plugin is called. There will be log like: (gnome-settings-daemon:21343): xrandr-plugin-DEBUG: applying === Applying Configuration Configuration === Clone: false Output: (null) attached to VGA1 status: off width: -1 height: -1 rate: -1 primary: false position: -1 -1 Output: BenQ 22 attached to HDMI1 status: on width: 1920 height: 1080 rate: 60 primary: true position: 0 0 Output: (null) attached to DP1 status: off width: -1 height: -1 rate: -1 primary: false position: -1 -1 (gnome-settings-daemon:21343): xrandr-plugin-DEBUG: done handling fn-f7 However when testing without killing the g-s-d process first and without the --debug argument. [Bug 1003998] [NEW] Terminal window stays in foreground even if deactivated
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, release 12.04 gnome-terminal version 3.4.1.1-0ubuntu1 1) I expect the application menu to be in front of the terminal window, if they collide in space. 2) I expect the terminal window to move back behind other windows if these get activated. 3) If the terminal window is visible in the front after an action like in (2) (well, it should not be, but if!) I expect it to further react on mouse actions What happens instead (yes, it's reproduceable) 1) the menu is hidden behind the window of the terminal application. As a ugly workaround I can resize the window to keep enough free space between menu bar and terminal window to show the menu nevertheless - but that's definitively no solution. 2) The terminal window stays in front, but is not active to any interaction any more. It can be reactivated by clicking in the dock (as a workaround). Minimizing a terminal window using the minimize-button in the windows title bar works as expected. 3) mouse actions are sent and handled by the next application that is on the desktop. Thus mouse interaction works correct as if the terminal window has been minimized as expected. I assume that it's one bug alltogether: * Using the on-top-menu of the terminal application, which is not part of the window in 12.04 any more deactivates the terminal window technically. The deactivated window seems to stay on top accidently. * therefore the menu as well as the other application are drawn behind the window, but that's again because of the first issue. I can confirm that setting the key image-gallery-resizable to false stops the problem on my system. So that seems to be the track to follow. [Bug 987220] Re: no complete shutdown
That's a very intersting observation, Mark. Thanks! I'll keep an eye on that, i.e. check if I can jump to another TTY before I shutdown. On my laptop (Lenovo X220) I have noticed that the indicator lights (LEDs) for wifi and power(!) turn off, while the screen stays on. Marks observation plus this one points in the direction of problems with the graphics driver. My graphics card is Intel. Should be a GMA 3000. lspci says: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/987220 Title: no complete shutdown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/indicator-session/+bug/987220/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
