[Bug 1005510] Re: yelp steals focus, cannot be killed, hogs system
From the link provided by Shaun, i see that this is known for a long time. Nobody has solved it yet, but there is a way to get your system back without having to reboot: write script 'killall yelp' (killall gnome-help as suggested in the links doesn't work for me), create a launcher and add the icon to the unity launcher. Clicking this kills the yelp window (i wonder why Force Quit doesn't(?)). I'm happy now i don't have to 'reisub' all the time anymore... Nobody seems to be doing anything about it... why? In my eyes, this is not a small problem. Doesn't anybody use the 'help' function? [Bug 1004601] Re: OBEX file browsing extremely slow
Hi Mathieu, It may well be an unfortunate interaction with Nautilus. But the image thumbnails are not the issue: I tried it on a single folder, that contained a single folder. No thumbnail. Even if there were, it wouldn't explain this effect. For comparison, I used Nautilus to navigate my hard disk file system. It's not exactly fast on this netbook, but directories with say 60 items or so (many items with thumnails) open in 2-3 seconds. As opposed to 2-3 *minutes* using OBEX. So * OBEX itself is pretty fast * Nautilus is ... not *that* slow * OBEX + Nautilus is *unusably* slow. It was not this bad in Ubuntu 10.10. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 1004992] Re: Does not detect hotplugged storage device (floppy spins but never mounts)
Sebastien, Yes, the problem is specific to floppies. You know, another part of the Linux world maintained by Apple removed support for parallel ports because they believed in their infinite wisdom that parallel ports didn't exist any more, despite the fact MicrCenter had 30 different motherboards listed as in-stock on that very day which had PP. Your view of the floppy is just as well informed. Despite what you believe the floppy, and more notably the Super Floppy is still in wide use by professional writers who happen to make up a large section of the Linux community. I haven't had a chance to test with external CDR yet, but I believe it is all USB removable media drives. Most likely broken when they fixed thumb drive support. Jan, I assure you there was a floppy in the drive. I removed and replaced it many times. Computer did not mount. [Bug 1005906] [NEW] File-permissions advanced-view always indicates mixed content
Public bug reported: Using 12.04 LTS 64-bit. If I use dconf-editor to change the way File/Folder permissions display in Nautilus (dconf-editor = org gnome nautilus extensions preferences show-advanced-permissions) and then bring up the properties of a folder (e.g., right-click a folder and select properties permissions) the Permissions-Tab always has dashes in it under the File Permissions Section (see Screenshot). Even when a folder's content is not mixed with respect to file permissions, the Permissions-Tab always shows the content as mixed (i.e., with dashes). This should not be. If all a folder's files have all been marked so that only the Owner has read/write access, then the folder should display this in the properties. Currently, even if a folder contains only one file, it shows Mixed Content. Users wishing to control file permissions of all files within a folder have no way to find out if mixed content exists in the folder because the Permissions-Tab always shows mixed content regardless of whether mixed content actually exists or not in the folder. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1005906 Title: File-permissions advanced-view always indicates mixed content To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1005906/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

well, this is still present in file-roller 3.3.91. furthermore, besides not wanting to delete the empty dir, if one tries to delete it by typing in its name specifically, file-roller may delete other files as well. for example, with dir structure: * bin/files * src/some-module/AbsBin.java * doc/manuals when I select 'bin' and delete, 'bin' stays. when I select it, delete, and type 'bin' in the field, the bin directory is deleted, but src/some-module/AbsBin.java is deleted as well! and this just cost me points with my computer-evaluated homework. :/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to file-roller in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/626151 Title: Program doesn't delete directories w/ files within, leaving a 0 byte one making necesary to type folder name to completely delete it To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-roller/+bug/626151/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 995932] Re: right click on file name in nautilus brings up wrong menu
Same is happening to me, went from 10.04 to 12.04. I did a little bit of testing and I could single out the instance when this happens: 1) Open Nautilus, set view as list. 2) Without previously selecting any item, right click on any item's line but NOT over the file/document's name. 3) The item does not get selected, and the right click menu appears as if you clicked on a blank space, not recognizing the item's right click menu (ie Open With, etc) If you right click over the name of the file/folder, then the item gets selected and menu shows up. This is why it seemed random to me until I figured out the behavior, and makes it an annoying bug for folders containing items with short names. Hope this can be replicated/fixed soon! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995932 Title: right click on file name in nautilus brings up wrong menu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/995932/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1005983] [NEW] Brasero selection disappears
Public bug reported: After clicking on select disc to copy, the DVD name and capacity shows up properly. As soon as I click somewhere else, the text disappears. Same thing happens with the select disc to write to field. I can click create image and operation proceeds normally so it appears the problem is related to a font or theme selection. This is happening after a fresh 12.04 install which has MyUnity, Ubuntu Tweak, clear looks, xfce, xubuntu, MAC OSX themes added on top. I had been playing with alternate themes to Unity. In none of these applications does there seem to be a selection for foreground/background text or something similar. Somehow the font settings used by brasero are being messed up by one of these applications. I'm not sure how to delve into this as there isn't an FAQ or any searches that show font settings used by Brasero. ** Affects: brasero (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to brasero in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1005983 Title: Brasero selection disappears To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/1005983/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 990725] Re: Shotwell will not detect mts moviefiles on memory card
As an aside, I believe I know what happened when it initially didn't work; I've identified a repro case for it, although 90% of users shouldn't have this problem. When we start enumerating media files on a storage device, we explicitly check several well-known paths, such as /DCIM, /AVCHD and so on. Because most cameras seem to 'prefer' MS DOS- or Joliet-safe filenames, usually, camera-created directories' pathnames are all uppercase or all lowercase. However, if one were to have something like '/PRIVATE/avchd/' or /private/AVCHD' on a storage device, while the camera would probably 'see' it as '/PRIVATE/AVCHD/' work correctly with it, gPhoto, and by extension, Shotwell wouldn't enumerate images or video correctly, because there currently doesn't seem to be a way to tell gPhoto to treat a path as being case-insensitive, and if we do a case-insensitive directory search on Shotwell's side, we may end up with a scenario where we think 'yes, /private/avchd exists, tell me what's in it', when what gPhoto actually sees is a different (by case) path and (correctly) reports no files (since, as far as it's concerned, the path we're trying to look in doesn't really exist). As for how to fix this definitively: the way forward would be to make gPhoto able to report the existence of .nomedia files, and once this happened, we could remove the whitelisting mechanism entirely, meaning a user or imaging device could put photos or videos into any path they wanted and still have correct results. Messages are stored in XML.
