[Bug 10905] Re: Keyboard shortcuts, window management - Can't use any global keyboard shortcuts or hotkeys when applet/menu is open

2012-05-30 Thread Stéphane Guillou
I can confirm this on 12.04 up to date. Another problem is that, when
viewing an indicator drop-down menu (or even a right click menu on
anything or a classic app menu from the global menu), you can reveal the
launcher with the pointer, but it acts weirdly: it hides more quickly,
it doesn't react when an icon is clicked, the names of the apps don't
appear, the stacked icons don't spread...

Can't we just make it impossible to reveal the launcher when a menu is
open so the behaviour of the launcher doesn't seem inconsistent or
buggy?

I agree, menus should ignore keys that are not accelerators, or
Esc/Enter. It is a general problem and is still open in bug 10905, so I
think this should be a duplicate of that.

[Bug 585592] Re: Bluetooth PIN always random

2012-05-30 Thread Bobby Patten
I installed "Blueman Bluetooth Manager" and am able to connect my
devices. I think this is just a different front end to the Bluez
Backend.

This makes me think the problem we are have is in the GUI.

also while i was trying to track this down i noticed the file
"/etc/init/bluetooth.conf" line 8 "env UART_CONF=/etc/bluetooth/uart",
uart does not exist as a file or directory. This may be nothing, but
thought it was odd.

Apport starts, lists some details, then Apport itself disappears.

To reproduce, just select Home Folder then on third display of a
partition the crash occurred. Made sure there was a pause between
selecting the partitions.

[Bug 998521] Re: whoopsie process is leaking memory

2012-05-30 Thread Clint Byrum
This is a huge diff, not just "a few minor changes" IMO. Its sort of
shocking that glib adds so much in a a few "patch" releases. I know some
of these things are for non-Linux platforms, but its really quite hard
to separate them out.

If this is just a one line fix, why aren't we just cherry picking the
one line fix for this bug? Thats typically how we control regression
potential. I'm digging through the diff (34,000 lines!) but at this
point I can't really justify the time to review it all.

Can somebody update the test case to include a comprehensive test plan
so we can get enough test coverage, or re-upload with just the fix for
this bug?

[Bug 995817] Re: share samba doesn't work easily

2012-05-30 Thread Serge Hallyn
Hi J-Paul,

I'm pretty sure you are right and system-config-samba should not be
needed. You were trying to share files through nautilus which should do
it itself. If I'm wrong about that and it cannot, then it should be
automatically installing it. In either case, I'll re-target this bug at
nautilus.

2012-05-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Share a folder in a simple domestic network need to check the share item in the
folder properties.
Ubuntu ask to install samba and libpam-smbpass. After reboot and check this
item again, Ubuntu ask to change the permissions.
After this point, it should work ! It would be quite easy.

It doesn't !

2 more things were necessary :
I had to add system-config-samba and add again the share folders.

[Bug 1001868] Re: Selecting property file or folder freezing it

2012-05-30 Thread gabbo
New update:

I've tried many times to get a backtrace after the error but following
this procedure:

pidof nautilus
sudo gdb 2>&1 | tee gdb-nautilus.txt
(gdb) handle SIG33 pass nostop noprint
(gdb) set pagination 0
(gdb) attach
(gdb) continue

when error shows up I can't get back the control of terminal (pressing
ctrl+c nothing happens ) so it's impossible to me complete the last
commands:

(gdb) backtrace full
(gdb) info registers
(gdb) x/16i $pc
(gdb) thread apply all backtrace
(gdb) quit

to retrieve a backtrace. I don't know what to do. If there is other way
or some different settings to avoid this situation please tell me.

[Bug 1006136] Re: Dates show multiple times

2012-05-30 Thread Adam Dingle
Each Shotwell import (whether manual or via auto-import) creates a fresh
set of events. So if an import includes a photo taken on May 4, and
then a following import includes another photo taken on May 4, then you
will see May 4 twice in the sidebar. (You can easily merge these events
if you like.)

This behavior was originally by design. We've come to feel that it's
more confusing than helpful, and that it would be better if imported
photos were placed into existing events so that each day would only
appear once. This ticket tracks this issue upstream:

+
+ Stable Fix: it's a trivial patch coming from
+ https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=677090 (upstream bug report)
+
+ Regression Potential: could break thai string rendering in another way
+ but it seems pretty unlikely since it adds a special rules for the
+ specific char which was rendered in a buggy way
+
+ Test Case:
+ - download the document from comment #10
+ - open the folder where it's downloaded in nautilus
+ - see if the filename is correct or there are square chars like in screenshot
in comment #3
+
+ ...
+
In some views in Nautilus, there is a strange character appearing right
after particular characters such as . (dot) and - (dash) when using Thai
  script in the file name.

Note that this does not happen in List view (Ctrl-2) , only icon view
(either Ctrl-1 or Ctrl-3). Also, when renaming a file, the strange
character disappears during the editing of the filename. (But re-appears
just before any dots, dashes or underscores after renaming).

I attach some screen shots. Screenshots 1 and 3 show the problem, with
the character appearing in front of a dot or dash. Screenshot 2 (list
view) show that there is no issue there. Screenshot 4 shows what
happens when renaming a file: the strange character(s) disappear.

Note when I take a file name and insert a dot or dash at any point
within the Thai name, the strange character appears in the affected
views. This seems to happen only with dot and dash and underscore, but
not with regular a-z characters or characters like #, $, ! etc. (I did
not try all 128 low ascii characters though).

EDIT: I can only add one attachment. Will add the other ones in follow-
  up comments.

[Bug 517033] Re: gvfsd-sftp: unable to append to file when using low-level writing (echo)

2012-05-30 Thread Nathaniel W. Turner
That should read "If we can't fix SFTP with gvfs ..."

Also:
When editing files with vim over gvfs/sftp, the whole file is lost upon saving.
When editing files with LibreOffice Calc over gvfs/sftp, the existing files
gets corrupted such that LibreOffice can no longer open it.

This is with Ubuntu 12.04.

2012-05-30 Thread Nathaniel W. Turner
This bug causes permanent data loss with no warning.
How is it possibly "Importance: Low"?
If we can't SFTP with gvfs, it should be disabled. A feature that eats your
data is worse than no feature at all.

happened before and the red hat bug mentions it as well.

[Bug 969359] Re: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu

2012-05-30 Thread Jan
I'm having the same problem. I killed -9 g-s-d and restarted it with
--debug. After the restart it's not using 100% cpu now, but it kept
giving "(gnome-settings-daemon:31887): libappindicator-CRITICAL **:
app_indicator_set_label: assertion `IS_APP_INDICATOR (self)' failed"
about twice per second, and my num lock key was blinking. After I
pressed the num lock key the blinking stopped and so did the messages
from g-s-d.

I am using VNC.

[Bug 822479] Re: Massive Evolution Mail memory leak

2012-05-30 Thread osprey
Malte,
I know that it's an annoyance, but could you try the workaround I've used to
get evolution back working?
The memory leak is probably related to some obscure settings or something
messed up during updates.

I was affected by the problem on 11.04, but after cleaning up the
configuration files I was no more affected by this memory leak. Since
that time I've also upgraded to 11.10 and then to 12.04 without issues
related to evolution.

[Bug 995844] Re: Tabs turn black with default theme

2012-05-30 Thread August Karlstrom
I've had a look at the source code of Gedit 3.4.1 and I can conclude
that the notebook widget or its parent does not transparently inherit
the gray background from its parent widget when a new tab is created.

[Bug 822479] Re: Massive Evolution Mail memory leak

2012-05-30 Thread Malte Finsterwalder
On Ubuntu 12.04 this problem still persists.
Leaving my machine running over night kills it, because evolution uses >12GB of
memory!
I would classify this bug high, since it makes evolution de facto unusable.

[Bug 997017] Re: Empathy not connecting to Gtalk

2012-05-30 Thread Joe A
I am able to connect when I put my proxy to None and apply system wide.
However, when I have it on (using cntlm) I am unable to connect. As
others have said, this started when I upgraded to 12.04.
