[Bug 952744] Re: gcalctool crashed with signal 5 in g_simple_async_result_complete() (corrupted ecb datas on download issues?)
This happened to me when switching quickly to the 'Financial' mode and then to the 'Basic' mode. I haven't looked into it further, but my gut instinct is that I switched away from financial mode before the initial currency information download was finished, and something reacted poorly to the resulting callback. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gcalctool in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/952744 Title: gcalctool crashed with signal 5 in g_simple_async_result_complete() (corrupted ecb datas on download issues?) [Bug 580961] Re: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings
For whatever the reason, unzip-6.0-4ubuntu1 still doesn't support choosing the codepage and it uses CP866 (cyrillic) by default. This is a very bad choice. The default should be CP437 as is the default used by IBM BIOS, MS-DOS, VGA, etc. It should *also* be configurable via commandline option. Meanwhile, incorrectly extracted filenames can be fixed by convmv -f UTF-8 -t CP866 -r --notest . # Undo the incorrect conversion done by unzip convmv -f CP437 -t UTF-8 -r --notest . # Convert CP437 (MS-DOS charset) into UTF-8 (what Linux systems should use nowadays) If your zip actually uses something else, replace CP437 with the applicable DOS codepage (and remove --notest to do dry runs without actually renaming anything while testing different options). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to a duplicate bug report (34667). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/580961 Title: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/file-roller/+bug/580961/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 878198] Re: Difficult to grab window borders in unity-2d
I didn't change the xserver, I'm using a remote connection which uses it's own local xserver. For example, I run x2go, which runs a scaled- back ximing xserver *locally*, however all this means is that all x information is forwarded to this local xserver. I don't have to install gnome, unity, etc locally as this all exists on the server. So I am dependent on the window manager/desktop manager configurations on the server. Said another way, there is no setting I can change locally which would affect bordersize or dekstop type (ubutu-3d/2d), all this must be done on the server (a 100% standard 12.04 install). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/878198 Title: Difficult to grab window borders in unity-2d To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/light-themes/+bug/878198/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1009607] [NEW] User Accounts does not delete all files when deleting a user with an encrypted folder
Public bug reported: System Settings > User Accounts > delete a user: If the user has an encrypted home folder, this action does not delete his (encrypted) files. This is a potential (though highly unlikely) security vulnerability, as recreating the user can reveal the previous files (as described below). How to duplicate: 1. Create a user with an encrypted folder. The easiest way to do this AFAIK is to install gnome-system tools. Start Users & Groups > Add > (fill in details) & "Encrypt home folder to protect sensitive data". You can see that the user has an encrypted folder: (a) /home/newuser contains two files, viz. Access-Your-Private-Data.desktop and README.txt. (b) /home/.ecryptfs/newuser/.ecryptfs contains a few files. (c) /home/.ecryptfs/newuser/.Private contains a few encrypted files. 3. Log into the new user and create a new file with some information, for example a text file on the Desktop. 4. Log out of the new user. 5. Delete the user and his files. (a) If you do this from gnome-system-tools, this works correctly; it deletes /home/newuser and /home/.ecryptfs/newuser. (b) But, if you do it from System Settings > User Accounts > "-" > Delete Files, although it deletes /home/newuser, it does not delete /home/.ecryptfs/newuser. 6. Recreate the new user with the same password as before. 7. Log into the new user; you will still see the previous file that you created. [Bug 958052] Re: Show battery status in menu bar does not work
Battery problems in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (64 bit): Laptop Specs.. TOSHIBA L755 with an Intel Core i3 Processor (it is 64bit, hence that is why I use Ubuntu 64 bit) with 4GB RAM, with about a 500 GB Hard Drive (that really doesn't matter) and a Battery and Charger that is NOT even 7 months old.. when working, Ubuntu Power Stats tells me that it has a capacity of 99% and only can't charge about .5 Wh of about what it should (because it is at 99% capacity).. TOSHIBA BRANDED health monitor told me when I was using Windows 7 Home Premium that the battery had a 85% Health... None the less, the battery STILL works and lasts up to 4 or 4.5 hours depending on what I am doing.. The ONLY reason why the battery doesn't last like a crazy 8 hours is because I am always using the Battery to surf the web... In fact... I am using the battery right now to post this comment Anyways, I also experience the problem.. Battery isn't indicated sometime (READ: Most of the time); even though it is there. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit with the LATEST updates as of 6/5/12 and am using GNOME 3.4.1 as the desktop environment.. I tried using Unity, but it doesn't show up there, either.. None the less.. I don't like Unity because of it's hard to use interface.. Anyways, if you put the system on Suspend (close the laptop lid), then when you wakeup, the battery indicator will likely be there, but I need it to be there all of the time.. I tried do the ALT + F2 and running "r" as the command and it doesn't help at all. I also tried various things such as logging out and logging back in AND running "gnome-control-center" in Terminal.. no errors, but the Power setting to show the battery status all of the time doesn't stick.. the value doesn't stick. That is my two cents on the battery statuses in Ubuntu 12.04... [Bug 1004601] Re: OBEX file browsing extremely slow
Hi Mathieu, What is "incomplete" about this report? Let me know what other info is needed, and I'll be glad to complete it. One further observation isn't particularly surprising: I finally managed to navigate some 5 directories deep to copy some photos from the camera. Just a copy-paste from the camera to a local directory. The action took some minutes to begin (just like opening directories), but the files transferred in seconds. [Bug 1009527] [NEW] user-accounts panel does not give the option to encrypt a new user's home directory
Public bug reported: The gnome-control-center user-accounts panel does not give the user the option to encrypt a new user's home directory. This omission is clearly a bug, because the user is given the option of encrypting their own home directory when installing the operating system, and therefore would certainly expect this functionality to be available for creating new accounts via the GUI. [Bug 965080] Re: "Sticky Edge" is neither obvious nor explained
I too find the term "Sticky Edges" inapprehensible. Also I wonder why this option is not greyed out in a single display setup, since it affects only multi display setups. May I suggest: "Make mouse stick to display edges". Intuitionally I did expect the "Sticky edges" switch to control if windows should stick to screen edges and/or automatically resize when moving them. But a switch for that function is completely missing, is it? Also at this point I expected and I consider to be necessary the following: a switch to enable and disable moving windows to other workspaces with the mouse. Using Unity, currently windows can only freely be moved around workspaces using the mouse when the workspace switcher has been activated. Also, a switch to allow mouse movements to other workspaces would be cool. I do mention this here because this is somehow the same as or related to sticky edges, but for workspaces. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/965080 Title: "Sticky Edge" is neither obvious nor explained To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/965080/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1009432] [NEW] document viewer search problem in right to left languages
Public bug reported: Hi when I use the search functionality in document viewer, it searches the letters as if they are written left to right. That is not a problem in english or any left to right language. However, this is a problem in right to left languages. I used it particularly with arabic but I guess it is the same for any other right to left language. In order for the program to detect a right to left word, the word needs to be written in reverse in the search box. I will give an english example since the words are easier to understand by everyone but the problem actually only occurs with right to left languages. if I want to search for the word 'hello', I need to type it in reverse as 'olleh' in the search box. [Bug 969359] Re: [keyboard]: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu (vnp, virtualbox, ...)?
I do not have vpn or virtualbox and this affects me. It happened after an update today on 12.04 (however the system was not updated for a long time). I will remove virtualbox and vpn from the title. ** Summary changed: - [keyboard]: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu (vnp, virtualbox, ...)? + [keyboard]: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu (and blinking numlock) ** Description changed: + Check comment 33 for a possible workaround. + + Original message: + - + I don't know how to reproduce this bug, but after varying amounts of normal usage of my laptop, I notice gnome-settings-daemon is consuming 100% (approx) CPU. I am not sure how to restart gnome-settings-daemon, I tried opening a terminal and running gnome-settings-daemon again but this crashes my system - my external monitor switches off and my laptop locks up. I am able to reboot with SysRq+REISUB.
