Thanks. This looks like a duplicate of bug 879793.

Could you please provide a copy of .xsession-errors (from your home

[Bug 1011350] [NEW] [quantal] Unity appearance is lost. Looks like GTK-2.

2012-06-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I upgrade from Ubuntu 12.04 to Ubuntu 12.10 today.

When I restart, and enter again all appearance is lost. My desktop is
like Gtk2 without a theme (default theme).

When I try to reset unity, the screen shows this messages too:

shakaran@steros:~$ unity --reset

This is expected. Your login password is necessary for "sudo", to be
able to access the raw partition.

Note that "luksformat" is rather a power-user command line tool.
Ordinarily you would create encrypted partitions with the graphical
"Disks" tool.

Mounting the stick does not involve sudo, and thus does not need your
login password.

> This means my problem was that for mounting a encrypted hard disk

> for a stick only the latter is needed.

Indeed. I'll fix that.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in gnome-control-center.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1006749] [NEW] 'No/bypass proxy for' option is missing in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-06-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In the Ubuntu 12.04,

if u try to set network proxy, there is no options for the following:

bypass proxy for
no proxy for
proxy ignore list

so if u want some proxy bypass to be used and u set the settings in the
settings panel, then firefox or any other browser for that matter does
not work properly with the system settings.

So kindly include this options asap in the Ubuntu network proxy
settings.

Thank you.

2012-06-12 Thread EliotBlennerhassett
Steve Langasek

I have changed employers, and no longer have access to the IMAP server
containing messages that definitely caused the crash.

I can confirm that on my currently accessible mail servers, I don't get
a crash when browsing my mail. However, this isn't proof that the bug is
fixed, but I'd say it probably is.

I imported the two emails mentioned by Bartosz, I can confirm they don't
cause a crash.

So, yes, I'd say the fix is verified.

[Bug 847001] Re: Adjusting display brightness is very slow on several Dell laptops

2012-06-12 Thread Sparhawk
Interesting find!

FWIW, on my system, intel_backlight/brightness is fixed at 4319, but
acpi_video0/brightness is also fixed at 14. I could change the value of
acpi_video1/brightness from 0 to 15 by altering the brightness either
with the keys on my USB keyboard, or by using "$ xbacklight -set n",
where n is a number (0 to 100).

For some reason the internal keyboard's brightness buttons are not
working at the moment, but I've been having 3 different kinds of Unity
crashes almost every day, so there's no certainty that my system is
currently 100% functional!

I also have a GeForce 8600 GT. I recently reverted to version 290.10 of

The reversion also seems to have solved my problems powering off the

2012-06-12 Thread Steve Langasek
EliotBlennerhassett, could you please confirm whether the evolution-
data-server package in lucid-proposed fixes this for you? The package
has been awaiting verification for 400 days so that it can be published
for the benefit of our other 10.04 users affected by this bug.

If no one verifies the bug, the package will be withdrawn again from
lucid-proposed.

[Bug 785631] Re: Rhythmbox Party Mode can't be left in Unity

2012-06-12 Thread Oscar Rivera
I am affected by this bug. I first noticed during Oneiric Ocelot, but it
happened again today and I am using Ubuntu 12.04.
I've had to switch to a CLI terminal by using Ctrl+Alt+F1 so I could reboot
because that was the only way I figured I could do it.

[Bug 974342] Re: internet radio stream stops after every song

2012-06-12 Thread David Johnston
I've been encountering this error too.

Running `rhythmbox -d` produces a fair bit of log output, but definitely
shows some suspicious goings on.

In the attached log I was listening to "Absolute Radio 90s". The track
ended at 22:27:11, and playback paused (sound stopped) for a couple of
seconds. At 22:27:14 playback resumed, but only lasted a couple of
seconds, stopping at 22:27:16. Playback never resumed after that point -
at least, not that I could hear, although the log suggests otherwise.

To resume playback, I had to manually re-select the station.

[Bug 934047] Re: Double wallpaper-entries in appearance menu

2012-06-12 Thread Ali Najafi
I found a solution!

After backup the file, I edited the file "ubuntu-wallpapers.xml" and
deleted some wallpapers listed randomly. Now, every image deleted from
the list, is single in "Appearance" app. The others are still double!

Hope this comment to help finding real problem.

[Bug 830348] Re: desktop contents briefly visible on resume from suspend before lock dialog

2012-06-12 Thread Marc Deslauriers
This is likely what happens:

1- Something grabs mouse: ie: virtual machine window, or GTK menu in an
application or an indicator
2- Screensaver attempts to start, but cannot get exclusive lock on mouse
3- DPMS turns monitor black
4- User moves mouse, which turns the screen back on
5- Mouse movement causes mouse to get ungrabbed by vm window or gtk menu
6- Screensaver can now grab mouse, and starts

This is all related to the fact that X does not have an API that will
let the screensaver tell an application to release mouse and keyboard
grabs.

[Bug 957924] Re: gedit crashes when opening latex-plugin preferences

2012-06-12 Thread androith
I found this bug "upstream" in gnome's bugzilla
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=676570), and here is a
solution.

The crash is connected to the file ~/.config/gedit/latex/tools.xml. If
you remove this file, Latex plugin loads correctly and doesn't crash
when you enter preferences. However, that file is where you store custom
compilation commands!

1. Copy the default tools.xml over the local one:
cp /usr/share/gedit/plugins/latex/tools.xml ~/.config/gedit/latex/tools.xml

2. Edit ~/.config/gedit/latex/tools.xml and remove the arrow characters.
(I replaced all "->" characters with the word "to" so that "TEX -> PDF" now
reads "TEX to PDF" . The bug comments at gnome's tracker seem to suggest this
is a problem.)

3. Edit the same file (~/.config/gedit/latex/tools.xml) and change the
compilation command to what you want.

Please note that if you have an error in that file, the crash will still
occur. (For example, choosing ASFASF as the postProcessor for something
will still crash the application.)

Here's my file which works (synctex, pdflatex and errors are nice):
$ cat ~/.config/gedit/latex/tools.xml

pdflatex
-synctex=1 "$filename"
gvfs-open
"$shortname.pdf"

rubber
--inplace --maxerr -1 --short --force --warn all --ps "$filename"
gvfs-open

latex
-interaction batchmode -src "$filename"
xdvi -unique
-s 6 -bg white -editor gedit "$shortname.dvi"

R CMD Sweave
"$shortname.Rnw"
rubber
--inplace --maxerr -1 --short --force --warn all --pdf "$shortname.tex"
gvfs-open
"$shortname.pdf"

rm -f
"$directory"/*.aux "$directory"/*.log "$directory"/*.toc "$directory"/*.bbl

[Bug 830348] Re: desktop contents briefly visible on resume from suspend before lock dialog

2012-06-12 Thread Paddy Launch
This affects me on 12.04 using conventional 3d unity. I just returned to my
laptop after a several hours, swished my mouse, and the screen came back on,
unlocked... I thought "odd... shouldn't this be locked?" and just assumed that
I must have absent-mindedly unlocked it earlier. I then went to start using the
laptop, and as soon as I touched the keyboard, the lock screen came up.
There was a delay of several seconds before the lock came up - it was certainly
long enough to convince me that the screen was unlocked and ready to use.

[Bug 197153] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV

2012-06-12 Thread Steve Langasek
Bryce, note that apport is now implementing client-side dupe checking
which may be to blame here for bugs being considered duplicates. People
are going to have a hard time filing a new bug report if that's the
case. At any rate, if apport thinks they're duplicates, that implies
the signature of the new backtrace matches this one.

[Bug 197153] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV

2012-06-12 Thread Bryce Harrington
In investigating further it appears that something (apport?) is linking
people to this bug report. However, this bug was fixed four years ago.
It's likely the logic in whatever is linking to this is faulty in some
fashion, rather than that this ancient crash has "come back".

In any case, like I said, a new bug should be filed for this issue.

[Bug 1012277] [NEW] Closing laptop lid should not blank external monitor

2012-06-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm using Precise Pangolin installed from scratch, with the latest
updates.

  txelu@txelu-acer:~$ lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
  Release: 12.04

My problem is that I have my laptop connected to an external monitor, and if I
started Ubuntu with the lid open I can't close, because not only the laptop
screen goes blank, but also the external monitor.
As a curious detail if I close the lid right after switching on the laptop,
before Ubuntu starts up, it works as expected.
Of course, I have set the Energy configuration to do nothing on closing the
lid, and I agree that the laptop screen in that situation should go black, but
not the external screen.
There is a similar bug filled against previous versions of Ubuntu (#416236)
that was considered a regression, but in that case there was a workaround using
gconf-editor to manually edit the settings for the gnome-power-manager, but
there is no such a entry now in 12.04.

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when "Shut Down" chosen from GUI

2012-06-12 Thread anders
I can confirm that changing to the virtual terminal also stops working. This
may be caused by the binary nvidia driver for
the GeForce 8600M GT graphics card in my PC. I am currently using version
295.49 of the driver but both installed
drivers have the fault. I have used Ubuntu on this PC for several years without
this problem so this bug was
introduced with 12.04.

I have tried "$ sudo poweroff" from a terminal and it fails. Shutdown from an
remote ssh login also fails. Currently I do not have
any safe way to shut down the system.

[Bug 956439] Re: Wrong folder opened in Select Dirictory dialog

2012-06-12 Thread Chris Wilson
I don't think this is a bug. What seems to be happening is that when you
press "Open", the dialog is using whatever directory is currently
selected, rather than the one you are in. This may be the intended
behaviour. We'll wait and see what upstream has to say about it.

This is still an issue in 12.04. I think a simple solution would be to:

2) Add an option to the "Default Application" list for CD/DVD burning and have
the "Open with CD/DVD creator" open that application

[Bug 1012229] Re: installing 32bit dev packages on 64bit OS frequently fails

this is most likely due to many packages depending on glib-dev and glib-dev
recommends python
if you don't disable installing recommends the foreign python will attempt to
replace the native one which will break your system

it is probably better to install with --no-install-recommends to avoid

[Bug 75654] Re: deleted songs listed again when using library watch

2012-06-12 Thread Chris Wilson
I think a simple solution would be to add a boolean attribute called
ExcludeFromLibrary to each track in the xml file. If the parser comes
across such an attribute with a true value, then it simply ignores it.

When adding new files to the library, it would be a good idea to run
through the list of excluded files to ensure that it has not already
been excluded. If it is found in that list, then the attribute is
flipped to false. This will stop the library file getting clogged up
with duplicate excluded tracks.

Shutdown using menu is working for me but using the terminal does not.
If I do

sudo shutdown -h 2:00

to shutdown at 2am, it hangs. Another thread said that it does not
happen if root user is used. I'll post later if root is able to do it
successfully.

indicator-session calls the consolekit shutdown interface, which uses
'/usr/lib/ConsoleKit/scripts/ck-system-stop', which calls 'shutdown -h
now'. So it doesn't look like there's any indicator-session bug here.

Public bug reported:

I just noticed today that the Global menu for Nautilus appears, but is
unavailable for Nautilus. When I click on it, a small rectangle appears
under the menu item, but I cannot access anything.

[Bug 987220] Re: no complete shutdown

2012-06-12 Thread Steve Langasek
> Sometime it works with command: shutdown now -h
> It never works with command: halt

That refers to bug #880240, which is not the bug reported by the
submitter. The 'halt' command does not do what people assume it does.
You need to call either 'shutdown -h now', or 'poweroff', or 'halt -p'.

The bug here is with the system not shutting down when shut down from
the GUI - that's not at all due to a user calling the wrong command from
the commandline. Perhaps the GUI makes the same wrong assumption and
calls 'halt' when it should not, or perhaps there's a hardware-specific
issue with the poweroff handling. (This would not be the first time
that had happened, but most such problems were long ago with a much less
mature kernel.)

** Summary changed:

- no complete shutdown
+ System does not power off reliably when "Shut Down" chosen from GUI

Does it not seem like an euphemism to assign a "low" priority to this

[Bug 858338] Re: gedit should 'find next' when I press enter in find

2012-06-12 Thread Kevin Shaffer
This is a major annoyance. I'm fine with quick search being the default
for Ctrl+F. This is consistent with the way many other editors are
setup. However, pressing enter should cycle through each result in the
list of matches just like every other editor I've used. I keep entering
line feeds into my documents. Please raise the priority of this ticket.
I will use the posted workaround in the interim. Thanks.

[Bug 987220] Re: no complete shutdown

2012-06-12 Thread anders
I have the same problem on my Dell Inspiron 1720. Everything appears to shut
down except the fan and leds which stay on.
Also I have noticed problems with the wireless network.
If I turn on my wireless router after Ubuntu has started the network newer
connects. The workaround is to disable and
reenable the network.

@Pierre: could you copy the output of evince and the result of those
commands "dpkg -l | grep poppler" and "ldd /usr/bin/evince | grep
