[Bug 1014910] [NEW] gnome-screensaver-dialog hang with kerberized NFS homedir

My home directory is on kerberized NFS.  If I try to unlock the
screensaver when my Kerberos ticket is expired, I don't get a password
entry dialog after the screen wakes up.  This worked properly in Lucid
but no longer works with Precise.

Steps to reproduce:

1)  Set up home directory on kerberized NFS.
2)  Set ticket life to just a couple minutes in /etc/krb5.conf (not necessary, 
but makes testing much easier!)
3)  Log in to a fresh account with the default desktop environment (unity)
4)  Lock the screen
5)  Come back when the kerberos ticket is expired, and press a key

Expected behavior:

Screen wakes up and gnome-password-dialog shows me a password prompt

Actual behavior:

Screen wakes up and I can move the mouse around, but I get no password
prompt

This is in Ubuntu 12.04 with the following package versions:

If I run strace -f on the running gnome-screensaver before attempting to
unlock, I can see that the gnome-screensaver-dialog process hangs when
it tries to call stat() on my home directory.  This happens inside some
dconf code that gets called from gtk_init_with_args.  You can see this
by attaching gdb to the hung gnome-screensaver-dialog process in one ssh
session, and then running kinit in another ssh session to get a new
kerberos ticket.  Here's the backtrace with debugging symbols:

although I have several accounts, two of them are still visible in the
gnome online account settings, but the empathy account manager only
presents me an error message.

The proposed patch works here. I did not notice any regression.
This is rather a workaround than a true fix, because the same file cause no bug 
on Oneiric and Debian.

However, the patch seems fine. So it would be cool to include it in a
SRU in order to fix this annoying bug and then investigate the true
issue in Quantal (I just tested with the latest daily-live and the bug
is still there, even if Totem was updated to v3.4).

Public bug reported:

After a while, evolution stops using spamassassin for junk mail
detection.

Here is what happens:

1- Evolution creates spamd socket and pid file in ~/.cache/evolution/tmp with 
2- When creating a new temporary directory to open an email attachment, 
evolution notices that the socket and pid file are more than 2 hours old, and 
deletes them, breaking spamassassin integration

See TEMP_EXPIRE in e-util/e-mktemp.c.

The problem is that it's using st.st_atime, but that's no longer getting
updated on Ubuntu and/or with ext4.

I was using my laptop to play movies on my tv using hdmi. When I
upgraded recently, which included a new kernel, the hdmi causes the
computer to freeze, forcing a reboot. As long as I don't plug in the
hdmi everything works properly. But the instant I plug in the cable the
computer freezes. The wifi continues to function but nothing else. I
can't switch to a terminal screen. The only thing I can do is reboot.

I have not tried going back to an earlier kernel but will try that soon.

computer and display the properties from a video file. There is an error

Updated 12 noon EST and Systems Settings Displays works, so the bug is
fixed.  Anyone know how to mark the bug solved?

One funny, pull down menus now have a white stripe with black lettering
for each line, example Systems Settings from the applet on the top right
of the screen.  I can read the text so no big deal, just different.
Some default somewhere I don't know must have changed.

Same problem here.  Fresh Ubuntu 12.04 install, and I get this problem
about 5-6 times a day.  Restarting Evolution is the only way to fix it
each time (disabling and re-enabling message previews does not do the
trick).

AMD/ATI graphics here, so it doesn't seem like nVidia vs. Intel vs.
AMD/ATI make a difference.

I will try disabling overlay scrollbars to see if that makes a
difference.  It should only take a day for me to learn for sure since it
happens so frequently.

Is there a workaround for this? When I keep my monitors mirrored my
external VGA is the right orientation, but if I try to use both it's
still stuck in clockwise or counter clockwise only. EEEPC 901, and
samsung VGA LCD. The xrandr command mostly worked, mirrored, when I took
out the --same-as part the whole ui on both went wonky.

section will still reorder them), since that's the most common action you want 
to do. This also makes it consistent with the default action obtained by 
dropping on the built-in places below. "

upgraded two systems:
 :~$ sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade ; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

After restart shutdown as user worked with final power down!

Now I have kernel 
3.2.0.25

Upgraded without any issuses!

I'll try the other PCs and tell you if it also worked...
