[Bug 1015913] [NEW] Printer settings are forgotten after printing

2012-06-21 Thread Reinhard Mayr
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04, shotwell 0.12.3, all packages up-to-date.

Select a photo and print it: File / Print ...
 * Paper type is Automatic (would need Photo paper)
 * paper source is Auto (would need Photo tray)
 * paper size is A4 (would need 4x6 borderless photo)
 * image quality is normal (would need hires photo)

These settings are reset after each printing run. For the next job I
have to reapply these settings manually.

Is there a way to make the settings persistent?

Thanks!

[Bug 1015929] Crash report cannot be processed

2012-06-21 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

libupower-glib1 version 0.9.16-3 required, but 0.9.16-3git1 is available
outdated debug symbol package for libupower-glib1: package version 0.9.16-3git1
dbgsym version 0.9.16-3
dpkg version 1.16.3ubuntu2 required, but 1.16.4.3ubuntu1 is available
outdated debug symbol package for dpkg: package version 1.16.4.3ubuntu1 dbgsym
version 1.16.3ubuntu2

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

[Bug 989689] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working

2012-06-21 Thread Jens Finkhäuser
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  This is related to, but not the same as issue #868400 - specifically,
  there are *not* two syndaemon instances running.

  A few bits of extra info:

  - I've had this issue before upgrading from oneiric to precise, but only in
the last few months. When I first used oneiric, all was fine.
  - disable touchpad while typing is switched *off*.
  - touchpad-indicator correctly displays whether or not the touchpad is
working.
  - This is on a thinkpad, and the nipple mouse continues to work. So do
external mice.
  - In the login screen prior to starting the desktop, the touchpad *always*
seems to work.

[Bug 111939] Re: Not possible to alt-tab during a drag-and-drop operation

2012-06-21 Thread John Lea
** Description changed:

  In some window managers (I believe KWin is one of them) the user is able
  to initiate a drag-and-drop operation, then press alt-tab to raise a
  window that will be the drop target, and only then release the mouse
  button so that the drag-and-drop is performed. This is not possible with
  Metacity, Beryl, Compiz or Xfwm. It is unclear to me whether this is a
  limitation of the window manager or some other part of the system.
+
+
+ --
+
+
+ Use Case:
+
+ Dragging movie/audio files from nautilus to totem.
+
+ Steps to Reproduce:
+
+ 1. open totem media player full screen
+ 2. open nautilus full screen
+ 3. browse to media files
+ 4. select some media files (e.g. a movie file) and move it to start a drag
and drop operation
+ 5.  press Alt+Tab
+
+ Observations:
+
+ Nothing happens.
+
+ Expected Results:
+
+ Alt+Tab should allow the user to switch tasks and preserve the drag
+ state, so the user can drag files from one application to another.
+
+ Notes:
+
+ Drag and drop works if the applications are tiled to the left/right of
+ each other, or if they are windowed so it should work when they are full
+ screen.

gnome-rr: Document the default DPI setting

As X.org lies to us because the monitors lie to it.

understand why gnome/nautilus provides a 'template' for text/plain but
the context and file menu option won't show until any other template is

The current behaviour might be confusing in some cases but it's also
consistent (no magical difference depending of where you copy) and non
destructive, you can copy a directory somewhere and back and have it
back to the original state, it's also making space use consistent

[Bug 1014041] Re: File size wrong calculation ubuntu 12.04

2012-06-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
since people have been doing wrong for years we should just let it
broken until end of time and never try to fix it, sorry no, we are
aiming at better than that, that issue is being worked on and not only
by Ubuntu

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_prefix

Since Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Apple's Mac OS X reports sizes using SI
decimal prefixes (1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes).[92][93]

you can see an increasing number of softwares and hardware correctly
using those units

This is a bug from 2009, but could it be that this is still a problem
when using autologin?

I used the tutorial
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/AutoLoginFeatures, which
works. The problem is when thin client users want to shut down their
system, they are brought out to the login screen for a second and then
immediately logged back in automatically to the desktop. How should I be
shutting down the thin clients? See also

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI

2012-06-21 Thread Stefan Essl
Last Day - final test after loaded optimal BIOS defaults:

first of all: YEESSS, they did all shutdown and power off without any
hazzle! Hoooaaayy!!

what and hoe did i test:
starting at 9 a.m. i turned on all 7 PCs and logged in.
9:15 i shutdown the 1st and it did power off.
11:00 2 PCs had firefox running nearly 2 hours and then i shut them down and
they did power off.
1 p.m 3 PCs had firefox and libreoffice running and then i shut them down and
they did power off.
3 p.m. 1 PC had firefox and evince running and then i shut it down and they did
power off.

so no matter how long they ran, it was possible to shut them down via
GUI and they powered off.

This is what they also did with Ubuntu 8.04
So something must have changed and it has to do with the BIOS settings and the
kernel
but i don#t know what exactly...

Hope you all have a nice day and i hope the PCs have learned their
lessons ;-)

Best regards from vienna, austria with nearly 100 deg. Fahrenheit

stefan

[Bug 1016103] [NEW] evince unable to save changes to toolbar

Public bug reported:

close/reopen evince.

In ubuntu 12.04 evince does not seem to be able to save it's change in

that's a known issue and duplicate, it's basically because gnome-shell

[Bug 1015500] Re: segfault at c ip 08123ea1 sp bfdc2580 error 4 in nautilus[8048000+19a000]

2012-06-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 491940] Re: Patch for LTSP clients to properly reboot/shutdown

2012-06-21 Thread Frederick J. Henderson
I have a LTSP client that functions as a photo frame running
gphotoframe. I have the following in lts.conf for that client

#Laptop ethernet
[00:0*:**:**:**:**]
LIKE=Atoms
# Used to allow auto login of clients
LDM_AUTOLOGIN=false
LDM_LOGIN_TIMEOUT=7

# Needed for LDM_LOGIN_TIMEOUT to work properly
LDM_GUESTLOGIN=true

LDM_USERNAME=media
LDM_PASSWORD=***
#SOUND=N
#Auto Shut down
SHUTDOWN_TIME=20:00:00

I believe the lines that will solve the problem of the endless loop are:

LDM_AUTOLOGIN=false
LDM_LOGIN_TIMEOUT=7
LDM_GUESTLOGIN=true

The LDM_LOGIN_TIMEOUT parameter makes it wait that many seconds before
automatically login in. Adjust it as you like.
