[Bug 988138] Re: Iagno hangs every game or two in Ubuntu 12.04, is very slow to take AI turns, crashes, loops sounds and gives wrong score in the end. Worked fine in 11.10

2012-07-05 Thread Derek
So, interestingly, when it closes suddenly without being prompted for an
error report, it seems to be when the AI has a piece left, and he cannot
capture anything and I can't capture his piece.

At that point, boom. No more game window. Probably a crash although I
haven't checked it in GDB.

Anyway. Just one more thing in this overall broken version.
Revert to previous version!

[Bug 854833] Re: NetworkManager forgets wireless password

2012-07-05 Thread Jacob Nevins
> Is this still a problem in Precise?

On Precise, I'm seeing a problems that look like at least some of the reports
here (and also bug #877803, which looks very similar but isn't yet linked).
Here's a verbose "me too"; the salient features are:
* After a WiFi connection has been dropped or had trouble connecting due to
marginal signal, Network Manager forgets the password.
** This can happen pretty frequently when I connect to a network at the edge of
its range.
** (I'd independently formulated a theory similar to one in bug #877803, that
NM should "only update the keyring after successfully authenticating to the
wireless network". I haven't checked for basis in fact though.)
* Once this has happened, NM never remembers a passphrase entered to connect to
a network, even if authentication is then successful. Going into "Edit
Connections" and entering the passphrase there causes it to be remembered
(until the next time there's a connection problem).
* I don't have "available to all users" checked for the connection.
** This is deliberate; I want the wireless credentials stored in the
(encrypted) home directory, rather than on the root filesystem. So the
workaround given isn't useful for me.

This all matches symptoms reported previously.

This is quite annoying. If there's any other information I can provide
to help get this fixed, please shout.

gsd-backlight-helper seems to make a wrong decision on which backlight

[Bug 780117] Re: Brasero finishes without error but unusable media [on-the-fly mode] (Ubuntu 11.04 ->12.04)

2012-07-05 Thread Paul Menzel
A similar bug report is on Debian [1], but it is not known yet if all
talk about the same cause the original reporter was seeing.

Anyway the libburnia developers stepped up and cooked up some patches
for you to try please to gather some more information what goes wrong.

So please apply Georges patch [3] and post the result to the discussion
(on the Debian bug tracker, since they are doing the work currently)
doing the following to keep threading.

$ sudo aptitude install devscripts
$ bts show --mbox 617409 # downloads the messages from the archive \
# quit possible opened mail client like mutt by pressing key q

Now import that file from `$HOME/.devscripts_cache/bts/` into your mail
program. Choose George’s message and hit reply to all and write your
results (quote properly and delete unimportant stuff in George’s
message) and attach the log files.

Thanks,

Paul

[Bug 1021437] [NEW] gnome settings picks the wrong file in /sys/class/backlight to change the brightness

2012-07-05 Thread Paulo Lopes
Public bug reported:

In my laptop i have 2 entries under /sys/class/backlight

* acpi_video0
* toshiba

if if echo to acpi_video0 the brightness works, if i do to toshiba it
does nothing.

Gnome seems to only pick toshiba and there is no way to tell it to use
acpi_video0 instead.

BTW i have a toshiba laptop so i assume the toshiba entry is correct.

[Bug 1019750] Re: Ubuntu Desktop panel menus are never visible

2012-07-05 Thread Andrew
No. indicator-appmenu was not installed. I just installed it now and
restarted and the menu is there! I think that fixed the problem! So it
looks like it was just a dependency issue with indicator-appmenu that
failed to install it from an upgrade from 10.04 LTS. Cool. Hope you now
have enough info to fix it for other people.

[Bug 1021375] Re: Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not

2012-07-05 Thread Matthew
I have a problem with USB flashdrives as well. Everytime I insert my
cruzer thubdrive it says it fails to mount, yet it mounts anyway.
Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but when you go to unmount it
properly it fails to do so..I am forced to just simply pull the flash
driveo out.

the file to dektop.
- 4 - Whole system freezes every single time.
+ Impact:

- only if I use drag and drop by mouse.

[Bug 1021375] [NEW] Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not

2012-07-05 Thread Sergio B
Public bug reported:

First time I use an USB drive since I updated to 12.04 and I found a
really annoying bug on Nautilus. Nautilus claims that the destination
drive is read-only when in fact it is not.

How to reproduce:

1. Connect a USB stick drive to your competer.
2. The USB will appear in the desktop.
3. Open two Nautilus windows one in your home folder, other in the USB stick
drive.
4. Select any file from your home folder (small enough to fit the free space in
the USB drive)
5. Drag the file and drop it in the USB drive window.

-- Nautilus will say that it cannot copy the file because the
destination is read ony --

If you try the copy the same file with the terminal you will see that
the file is copied without problem, other programs like gedit or
LibreOffice can write in the usb stick drive just fine.

It is not a problem with the USB stick, as shown here:

[ 6232.288064] usb 2-1: new high-speed USB device number 6 using ehci_hcd

The permisions on the removable drive are set correctly:

There is enough free space in the drive:

A file can be copied to the USB stick using the cp command for example.

sergio@shana:~/Trash$ cd /media/DESIGNPLUS
sergio@shana:/media/DESIGNPLUS$ ls -lah

But nautilus just dennies to copy the file claming that the destination
is read only, when it is not.

I tested it with two different USB sticks in two different computers
running Ubuntu 12.04 and the same result.

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Description changed:

First time I use an USB drive since I updated to 12.04 and I found a
really annoying bug on Nautilus. Nautilus claims that the destination
drive is read-only when in fact it is not.

  How to reproduce:

  1. Connect a USB stick drive to your competer.
  2. The USB will appear in the desktop.
  3. Open two Nautilus windows one in your home folder, other in the USB stick
drive.
  4. Select any file from your home folder (small enough to fit the free space
in the USB drive)

[Bug 1021344] [NEW] Annotations use unreadable yellow color

2012-07-05 Thread Jens Seidel
Public bug reported:

Adding annotations to PDF documents via the side panel works really well
except that it is impossible to read what I write. The default text
color is yellow on white background!

[Bug 1020759] Re: /run/media is an unnecessary divergence from the FHS

2012-07-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Steve, not sure you are subscribed to the upstream bug, it got closed
NOTABUG, I copy the comment here

"The motivation for moving out of /media was that with /media any user can
access the filesystem that your user mounts. Which obviously is highly
undesirable on multi-user systems. Originally we wanted to use
$XDG_USER_RUNTIME_DIR and for a while we did that, see

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/udisks/commit/?id=502fb5b7810afb50e48354e6b4d1781d07f79e10

but shortly determined that it was racy (it's never a good idea for a system
daemon to write to a directory controlled by untrusted users) so we ended up
using /run/media instead:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/udisks/commit/?id=502fb5b7810afb50e48354e6b4d1781d07f79e10

(OTOH, if you really want all users to access a device, you simply just add an
/etc/fstab entry. We now have API in udisks and UI in GNOME Disks for this.)

> violating the expectations of experienced users and possibly
> breaking user scripts / symlinks.

Just FYI, it's pretty fragily to rely on udisks just this or that name in
/media in the first place so I don't think any "experienced user" would do
this. If you need a predictable mount point, you need to use /etc/fstab or
mount the device yourself through another mechanism. Or, better, fix your
software and/or scripts to figure out the mount point itself by looking at
things like /proc/self/mountinfo use lsblk(8) or whatever.

> Please fix udisks to move its mounts back to /media."

There is nothing to "fix" here so closing NOTABUG."

[Bug 1021274] [NEW] Second massive file is not burnt to DVD - never added to project

2012-07-05 Thread d❤vid seaward
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

 * Running Ubuntu 12.04, brasero 3.4.1-0ubuntu1, nautilus 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu3
 * Insert blank DVD
 * Open blank DVD in Nautilus
 * Drag two files each > 2GiB into DVD window
 * Click "Write to Disc"
 * Receive query about one file > 2GiB
 * Select "Always Add Such A File" to go ahead with third version of ISO9660
 * Select Burn

What should happen?

Two files are burnt to DVD.

What happens instead?

Only one file is burnt to DVD.

Notes

Reproduced this using Brasero interface. Dragged two massive files into
empty Brasero data project at the same time. Received query about one
file, selected "Always Add Such A File". Only queried file was added.
Could add second file by dragging it manually.

Workaround

Use Brasero interface and add massive files one-by-one.

2012-07-05 Thread Johan Smits
Public bug reported:

after some time when evolution runs in a wild loop of fetching messages and
removing messages from cache. It also locks my ldap account on the active

I think this is triggered that I delete messages from my phone and have my

The connector I use is mapi Exchange 2007

[Bug 871133] Re: Ubuntu Oneric Volume Step Can Not be Changed

2012-07-05 Thread Joonas Saarinen
On HP laptops which have the capacitive volume adjustment strip,
changing volume is very racy.

You probably cannot expect the hard-coded +/- 6% to create a good
experience on all systems.

[Bug 704232] Re: can´t resize ¨side pane¨

2012-07-05 Thread Kim Nguyễn
Indeed, the bug was re-introduced. Here is what I *think* happened.

Bug shows in 2.32. Evince folks make the sidepane horizontally
scrollable (GtkScrolledWindow with hscrollpolicy to ALWAYS or
AUTOMATIC), which in turns allows the GtkIconView to be resized
accordingly.

Later people complain about this unsightly horizontal scrollbar that is always
present (all the more visible thanks to bug:
#990228, which puts too much padding space around the thumbnails).

hscrollbar policy is set to NEVER but this has the side effect that when
resizing the sidepane down, the GtkIconView used to
display the thumbnails sets the minimal width and prevent its container from
being sized down.

Public outrage ensues.

I've attached two patches to the original bug-report. The first one only fixes
this issue. The second one also fixes
#990228 (upstream:671691) at the same time.

Please test and report your findings in the upstream bug report.

[Bug 1021154] [NEW] Thumbnails sidepane cannot be shrunk once it has been enlarged

2012-07-05 Thread Kim Nguyễn
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 704232 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/704232

Public bug reported:

When one elarges the thumbnail sidepane horizontally, (s)he cannot
shrink it down to a smaller size:

steps to reproduce:

- open a pdf in evince with sufficiently many pages (say 3).
- Make the Thumbnail sidepane visible. Originally it should display one column
with the three pages
- Hold the pane separator and drag to the right. When the pane is sufficiently
wide, the content might (it does not
always do it...) reflow to show two columns and then three columns. If the
thumbnails are not reflowed, just hit ctrl-r
to force a redraw.

- Try to shrink the sidepane to its original size. This cannot be done anymore
(and if gvfs is installed, then the state of
evince UI is kept as metadata for the *file* and you need command line hackery
to reset it, see the upstream bugreport).

What should happen instead:
I should be able to freely resize the side pane until it reaches its minimal
width of 1 column.

Additional informations:

[Bug 990228] Re: sidebar minimum width too large

2012-07-05 Thread Kim Nguyễn
Hi,

I've posted a patch yesterday in gnome bugzilla. I'll *try* to upload packages
to my ppa so that it gets better testing.
For those who want to test the patch I rather suggest using the second patch at:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=657632

Which also fixes a nasty bug where you cannot shrink down the side pane
once you have enlarged it.
