[Bug 1019755] Re: Suddenly have to unlock keyring after each login

2012-07-14 Thread Wal
Yes I am getting similar behaviour. It only started yesterday. I will
suddenly get the same message as above after I have been logged into my
PC for about 20mins or so. It just comes out of nowhere. I don't use a
password or keyring etc to login. But this message pops up out of
nowhere after a short time.

[Bug 1024693] [NEW] empathy does not show contacts and performs very sluggishly

2012-07-14 Thread Steve Williams
Public bug reported:

I upgraded to 12.10 from 12.04 today and since upgrading, I am unable to
see my logged in contacts in empathy.

It is worth noting, that if I look in the accounts menu, all accounts
are marked as logged in and working. Also, if somebody sends me a
message, it takes up to 30 seconds for me to be able to actually open
the chat window.

I have included a screenshot of both Empathy and Pidgin running
alongside one another, Pidgin on the top left and Empathy bottom right.

I have also noticed that when I run Empathy, my Gnome menu (chat
notifications) appear as if they have the Radiance theme rather than the
Ambiance theme that I have selected. (I think this one may need a
separate bug report though).

[Bug 1024693] Re: empathy does not show contacts and performs very sluggishly

2012-07-14 Thread Steve Williams
I think I have managed to get to the bottom of this one, but I think it
might need to remain open depending on whether a few things are true or
not ...

I changed the default theme of Empathy from Classic to the Blue theme
and suddenly everything has started working. If I try to change the
theme to either Ubuntu or Classic (the two themes that I prefer to use),
I get the resultant behaviour that I reported upon creation of the bug
report.

[Bug 1024742] [NEW] Mouse sensitivity is actually acceleration threshold. No way to change sensitivity.

2012-07-14 Thread Timmmm
Public bug reported:

In the mouse settings there are two sliders: acceleration and
sensitivity. Acceleration works (roughly) as expected, although it is
kind of too binary (either you're going at a slow speed or a high speed;
nothing in-between). However the sensitivity at first seems to do
absolutely nothing (if you have no acceleration at least).

After playing around with it, and reading some forums I found that the
sensitivity is actually mislabelled, and it is really the acceleration
threshold!

There is also no actual sensitivity setting.

[Bug 1024745] [NEW] creating selection area in gimp causes logout from ubuntu

2012-07-14 Thread Matt Quinn
Public bug reported:

This is weird. I'm using 12.04 on an emachines e443 64 bit computer.
When I open a photo in Gimp 2.6.12 and I click to draw a rectangular
selection area it instantly shows a black screen with some logging out
text. Immediately afterwards my password screen for logging in on the
computer appears. There is no error message, just an instant and direct
logout.

In the name of science I repeated the situation, and was able to read
something about Start ClamAV in the black screen. It goes so fast I
can't read all of it.

Since I also have a windows partition I know the computer isn't doing a
complete restart or I would have the option of selecting either OS. Any
thoughts?

My processor is:

AMD C-Series dual-core processor C-50 (1.0 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache, DDR3 1066
MHz, 9 W)

My graphics card is:

AMD Radeon™ HD 6250 Graphics with 256 MB of dedicated system memory,
supporting Unified Video Decoder 3 (UVD3), OpenCL® 1.1, OpenGL® 3.1,
OpenEXR High Dynamic-Range (HDR) technology, Shader Model 5.0,
Microsoft® DirectX® 11

When I was trying to make the computer a bit less sluggish in Windows,
before installing Ubuntu, I threw 8GB of RAM on it, so I know this isn't
a lack of memory issue.

I used 12.04 for a while with Gimp and had no issues. This started
sometime after July 4th. Perhaps an update caused this problem?

[Bug 958424] Re: [regression] Can't change refresh rate in Displays

2012-07-14 Thread Steve Howe
I have a flat screen LCD monitor and the refresh rate is set out of range. I
have no idea what 12.04 thinks it's dealing with. Occasionally I get a visible
screen for a second or so which after many such second-long flashes lets me
change to resolution to 1024x768 which, though not nice (native 1280x1028) is
readable and thence to 1280x960. I have just upgraded from 10.04 and found I
can no longer set the refresh rate manually. Why is it that upgrading so
often leads to loss of functionality?
Installing Mate restores all the functionality of 10.04 (including the world
daylight indicator) and as a bonus removes Unity.
So I can now run my monitor at nice resolution and refresh rate.
Now all I have to do is find a way to keep the settings as default so I can
actually see the screen when I log in. Set as default doesn't seem to work :-(
Time to look into xrandr I suppose.
If the problem is known as an upstream bug and it makes 12.04 almost unusable
without Mate shouldn't it be fixed?

[Bug 958424] Re: [regression] Can't change refresh rate in Displays

2012-07-14 Thread Darxus
Steve, I originally opened this bug, and then realized my main problem
was failure to properly detect my monitor: bug 958439. You may want to
look in that direction. Monitors *should* be communicating their
capabilities to the computer, and at that point it should be easy for
the OS to determine an ideal refresh rate for any resolution. So you
really shouldn't need to be able to manually specify a refresh rate.
And I can see, given that it should be completely unnecessary, people
wanting to remove the capability to make the interface slightly less
complicated. But Daniel pointed out in comment #9 that there are
reasons to have it.

[Bug 971880] Re: go on line to edit your personal information

2012-07-14 Thread Patrick Kilgore
I re-opened this because I am experiencing the same problem.

:~$ uname -a
Linux x200 3.2.0-26-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 14 17:49:24 UTC 2012 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

This may be difficult to reproduce, because I am not sure how the ghost
account got there. When it is deleted, it re-appears on restart.

This maintains the behavior through a complete uninstall/reinstall of
empathy too. I removed the ~/.config/empathy/ folder too, let me know if
there is another config I can try to delete...

Pictures attached showing the behavior and the error message.

[Bug 971880] Re: go on line to edit your personal information

2012-07-14 Thread Patrick Kilgore
After further investigation, I discovered a work-around.

The problem appears to be the result of an upgrade from a time where
gnome-online-accounts was used in ubuntu. My google account was added
there, and the ghosts of that addition seem to have echoed into 12.04 --
where that package is no longer included by default, it seems.

My workaround:

Install gnome-contacts: sudo apt-get install gnome-contacts
Open gnome contacts: gnome-contacts

In the GUI that opens, select Accounts button, then delete the account
from the resulting menu.

That causes the ghost to vanish in empathy.

You can now safely delete gnome-contacts.

Clicked Places, and here I am!

Wouldn't occurance in a VM make hardware issues unlikely?

[Bug 1024800] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.04 switches to Chinese language

2012-07-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Again I had to fudge a report through ubuntu-bug to get this posted.
Make a general bug report possible, because there are a lot of times
there is no way to know what is causing the issue...

On to the bug.

Ubuntu 12.04 changes to Chinese, and using the language suport system in
system settings gets you nowhere. It absolutely will not change it back
to English.

I did not want, nor did I try to change it to Chinese, it did so after a
boot up.

I found the solution to this problem, but that does not mean the bug is
solved, and so I am posting this.

The solution right now, is stated here:
http://dennygoot.blogspot.com/2012/07/ubuntu-1204-changes-to-chinese-with-no.html

Please help us remove this bug.

Thank you
-Denny

[Bug 1024841] [NEW] when I open up a second or third window, it freezes the screen
