2012-08-04 Thread Lina Pug
Hello everyone!

I did some research on the site "Ask Ubuntu" and been able to solve the
problem, I think definitely.
I rewrote the command:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor
splash"

as follows:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quite splash acpi_osi="

For more details access the page:

[Bug 1033034] [NEW] Setting the desktop background from cron no longer updates the desktop background

2012-08-04 Thread Serrano Pereira
Public bug reported:

I wrote a script which uses `gsettings` to change the desktop background
in Gnome Shell/Unity. The command that my script executes looks like
this:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri
file:///path/to/background.jpg

Manually running this command immediately updates the desktop
background. I use cron to schedule execution of my script. My crontab
rule looks like this:

0,30 * * * * DISPLAY=:0.0 nextwall
/home/serrano/Pictures/backgrounds/

Cron successfully runs the script every 30 minutes and the new wallpaper
URI is successfully set in `gsettings`. I test this by running:

gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri

However, the desktop background is not updated when cron runs the script
(this used to work until about a month ago). Interestingly, when I right
click on my desktop and select "Change Desktop Background", the desktop
background is suddenly updated to the correct image.

So for some reason changing the desktop background from cron no longer
triggers nautilus to update the desktop background.

[Bug 36413] Re: Drag-drop column ordering

2012-08-04 Thread Chris Wilson
It's been a while since there was any activity on this issue, either
here or upstream. Does anyone know how easy this would be to implement?
Does the Gtk interface on the front of Rhythmbox easily allow this, or
is it going to be a rather involved task?

Does anyone have any ideas?

[Bug 762670] Re: Laptop brightness on Dell XPS not controllable

2012-08-04 Thread Justin Crossley
For the non-tecnically minded could someone please explain exactly what
to type or do to:

"add the following to xorg.conf:

Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"

I have no idea how to add this to the xorg.conf file.

This bug is extremely irritating. When the laptop enters power saving
mode and you wake it up from a blank screen the screen is extremely
bright and almost unusable even though the screen was dim and had a good
screen brightness before powersaving mode.

There are a number of other very dissapointing bugs/ things that are
wrong with Ubuntu 12.04 running on my Dell XPS L702X laptop.

[Bug 1024700] Re: Session never locks automatically if no screen off timeout set

2012-08-04 Thread Chris Wilson
I'm able to confirm this, but I've added a design task since I'm not
sure if this is intentional. From the wording of the text on the
Brightness Settings, I get the impression that automatic locking of the
screen is dependant on the screen first being turned off, so if it's
still on then it can't lock.

[Bug 787039] Re: Python 3 Doc not show in Devhelp

2012-08-04 Thread Joel Peláez Jorge
But it works for me, I have installed python3.2-doc and python2.7-doc packages,
changed the tag name in their DevHelp Book Description solve the problem.
A example: the gtkmm documentation packages (2.4 and 3.0) difference the
DevHelp Book Description using "gtkmm-2.4" and "gtkmm-3.0" in attribute "name"
in the tag . The python documentation packages must do the same. Is
possible use "Python2.7" and "Python3.2", this can help if has installed more
than one the same major version: 2.* or 3.* versions.

[Bug 252060] Re: Totem problems with S-Video on ATI Mobility Radeon X300

2012-08-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Edward Sargisson, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the kernel in the
daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested
and remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located
at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the text:
needs-upstream-testing

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags:
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.

Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1032969] [NEW] gnome-panel always imports default layout at start, leading to an additional top and bottom panel added at every gnome-panel start

2012-08-04 Thread Cinquero
Public bug reported:

The title says it all.

Workaround:

mkdir -p ~/.config/gnome-panel
touch ~/.config/gnome-panel/panel-default-layout.layout

That let's gnome-panel fail the default layout import and prevents it
from messing with my existing gome panel setup.
